Riding Meepo's Cheapest Board - V5 First Impressions

- In today's First Ride, we take a look at the cheapest longboard I've ever featured on this channel, at time of recording, the Meepo V5 comes in at just $429 (before shipping). This budget hub board is a great beginner option, and while I don't have a lot of miles on it yet, it has the potential to be a good introductory longboard.
Meepo has a number of boards that are popular nowadays, with the Hurricane and Voyager being most common in my local region, but they've also got the V5, their budget hub motor powered board, as well as their mini.
The first ride with this board went about how I expected, with some highs and lows in places I didn't expect. The deck ended up being better than I expected, and the hub motors weren't all that bad. However, the range was disappointingly low, ending up at only one bar left after 5 miles. I think if you really pushed it on flat ground you might get 8 miles, but with a 10s2p built out of 18650 cells, it isn't all that surprising.

I never did like the OG handle, practical yes but dont like it.
Indeed, starter board! Great to get you addicted to the hobby! The handle is very convenient but I'm not a big fan of the aesthetic, nor the decreased strength of the deck.

I am making my own board right now but i am really stuck on which hub wheels i should use for my board. I am planning on making a 12s3p battery using 3.7v 2900mah cells but do you have any hub motors that you would recommend?
That's a great question. I almost never use hub motors on baords because I dislike the ride feel they give. You're making a pretty low powered board, so most should work. I have heard good things about the meepo hubs before but I'm not sure if you can buy them anymore
@@RBEMotion yeah there are these meepo 105 mm donut wheels that look pretty decent but they are rated for 36v i believe and my battery delivers 44v. Is that a problem?
@@juicyboi2923 I can't say for all brands but typically motors will be able to take higher voltages than they're rated for. You will just need to monitor the heat to make sure it's managed

i think this type of board is not aimed at speeds above 12mph to be honest or it'll die quickly a painful death 😆
May I know why? 12 mph
i wouldn't with the cheap trucks and all the wheel sleeve that unscrew itself on the V5 series, not for all but quiet few had that.

I think my comfortable speed would be like 15mph on this one. I saw that sleeve issue you're talking about too, not what I'd call top tier design. However, for most beginners it's probably not going to break... I think. lol
