  • This video sets out to answer the question if a large, heavy rider can learn to eskate on a Meepo V5 ER budget board. The V5 ER has the larger battery, which is a must for heavier riders, but the rest of the specs on the board impressed me.
I was not only able to learn how to eskate but I got this board up to 25+ mph on straightaways and even up some hills when I entered them with speed. The board handled my weight with a nice flex and never bottomed out. The batteries also exceeded my expectations but I was riding fast and hard and got about 35 minutes on them before they went down to one light.
Electric skateboards used to be for 150 - 200 lb people and cost lots of money to get into. Fast forward, 6 or 7 years and they now fit riders up to 330 lbs and can go 28 mph for only a couple of hundred bucks. The tech sure has come a long way.
I enjoyed making this video and I hope you enjoy watching it. I did get injured though, you will see this at the beginning and end of the video. I absolutely LOVE riding an electric skateboard because it is such a fun and freeing experience. However, they are dangerous. There are lots of things that could stop the board and when you go off, you go flying into the pavement, not falling into but flying into. Therefore, I recommend full protective gear and not just a helmet. I have a really bad wrist sprain right now because I was working on my turning a little too hard in the parking lot and popped off the board. It was a scary fall because I was flung into the pavement at speed.
So just be careful out there. You don't need to sprain or break your wrist before you decide to get wrist guards. I would say a helmet is a must and wrist guards are right there behind it but a clear #2 if you can't get everything.
