- This is my reaction to Generation Kill 1x4/S01E04 REACTION | Part 2 | "Combat Jack"!
In this episode Encino Man gives the most inspiring speech of all time. I brainfart the name Fink repeatedly and we get topless Brad "Iceman" Colbert (Alexander Skarsgaard).
Apologies pals, I feel like I didn't fully comprehend one of the subplots in this episode and didn't quite understand that the search for the marine they were looking for was called off rather than ended. I figured it out though, don't worry!
I very, very much enjoyed seeing the subordinates bite back at the leaders as far as they were allowed. “Well, sir, it’s just that you’re incompetent, sir.” - WEW!!
Hope Fick gets more appreciation and trust in the upcoming episodes and his friendship with Brad is a bit more relaxed. But I'm not holding my breath!

Generation Kill 1x4/S01E04 REACTION | Part 2 | "Combat Jack"
'Marine Sergeant Fernando Padilla-Ramirez was reported missing from his supply unit after an ambush north of Nasiriyah on March 28. His body was later dragged through the streets of Ash Shatrah and hung in the town square. His body was later taken down and buried by sympathetic locals. His body was discovered by U.S. forces on April 10.' That is the marine in the episode that they were "looking" for.
Thanks for this. I did actually come by this information via a Reddit thread but was unsure due the supposed "crucifixion" aspect. I guess they were misinformed.
Just clarifying, Fick is telling them to mind their own business to protect them. If they get involved Godfather and Encino Man could punish them as well as Fick. If you can read his book, he’s a good leader who cares about his men. His love for his men is actually why he left the Corp.
Im a US Marine and the background talking is EXTREMELY accurate moving forward try to listen for it

@@saharafox8209 Especially the one bit where you can hear a crashing sound and someone exclaiming; "Manimal, you just dropped a box of grenades!", then a reply from someone else; "See? This is why we can't have nice things!"

Part of the roadblock scene that get's expanded in the book is the concept of warning shots. Iraqis were used to seeing roadblocks and checkpoints under Saddam. They'd be used to getting harassed and such at the checkpoints so warning shots weren't quite understood.
Another great reaction, Generation Kill can be frustrating/difficult to watch at times but its 1 of the best mini-series I've watched. Some great characters and acting even from those that piss you off the most.
Absolutely loving your reactions to this. This is easily my favorite mini series and probably my favorite piece of war media ever.
I'm gonna leave this on the next reaction too but please remember to listen to the dialogue over the credits of episode 6. It's one of my favorite exchanges in the whole show and gives fantastic insight into their mentality.

Finished up your B.O.B reviews the other day and just binged through the first 4 episode reviews here in one evening and I gotta say I'm really enjoying the longer reviews with more insight and thoughts and the end of each one. I didn't realize you hadn't got through all of gen kill before I started watching so I guess I'll start on your pacific review series while waiting for the episode 5 review to be uploaded. @@JulietteReacts I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything goes well with whatever your dealing with. I can tell by your emotional reactions that you must be a total sweetheart. Also on a personal note, I'm not the type of person that usually comments on youtubers appearance but I've noticed going from your older videos to newer ones that you look a lot more fit (I think that's the term you guys in the UK use) and whatever your doing to keep in shape keep it up cause it's working. I only say this cause I myself know how hard loosing weight is and the challenges that come along with it. It's not easy and takes a total lifestyle change in most cases. I'm not to my target weight yet but having people around me start to notice and compliment me really helps with my motivation to keep it up and I hope this comment does the same for you. I'm so glad I came across your channel, you deserve a million subscribers 😊

It's been several years since I watched the series, but these reaction vids are a good reminder of just how many times I had to pick my jaw up from the ground due to the utter stupidity and incompetence displayed by the some of the officers, and the complete lack of coordination between units. I mean I get it, that's the main focus of the show, it's coming from that angle and I'm sure the US Army and Marines are for the most part competent, highly trained professionals, but like.. yeah. Some of this stuff just blows your mind.
Cant wait for the next episodes reactions. Keep up your good work, love it ✌🏻

Generation Kill is said to be the best modern depiction of war.
If I am ever in a situation where people are shooting at me, I won't mind having James Trombley on my six...I don't care what other faults he may have.
Actually Eric Kocher, the man who stood up to Captain McGraw was relieved of being the team leader partially from the things he said to McGraw as well as being included for some of the actions of Captain McGraw and the Marine reservists.
Later in his service he received two purple hearts. The first was from shrapnel embedded in his arm from an RPG during an ambush. Kocher bandaged one arm and fought his way out of an ambush firing with his other arm. His second purple heart came from another RPG hitting his humvee throwing him 15ft in the air.
So yeah Eric Kocher is a badass.

After the first gulf war, Special Operations Forces landed in northern iraq in the kurdish zone. The mission was to assist those people for a possible force to train. The children in the village would dig up mines to roll down hills while watching them explode. that was what the children did to have fun. The americans there told the kids to just locate them but not go near them. as encouragement, the kid who found the most mines each day would get a piece of candy. in short order the mines were found and disabled. At one point the Officer in charge was approached by one of the men who was leading two younger men with him. His words: "We have heard that your President Bush has heart problems. We offer you one of these two young men. take their hearts and send it to your President.". The message made its way to the desk of President Bush who responded "Thank you but i am feeling much better now and that will not be necessary.". The institutional memory is in the elderly of Arab societies not the young. This does not in any way make what happened right, or even acceptable. Its merely an explanation of the reality. It is the worst thing in the world to kill a child. The worst. Whether accidental or because the child was firing at you.

You cannot apply Western Culture to the Eastern World - I was stationed there for 4 yrs and lived an additional 5 yrs. it is very different the way they/we react to life

Juliette Reacts that’s a long answer. An example - it is much less common to hear “I love you”. One of our translators called his daughter to say he loved her (trying to show us the difference) and she started crying because she thought he must be dying. It’s just not common. It’s not that they don’t love, it just isn’t expressed the same way. Also, death is a much more common occurrence in a war zone. Another difference is a male child (depending on the age when they die) are more grieved for than a female. There are a lot more and there are not hard line, obviously there are exceptions
Juliette Reacts an example I posted before: we at one location (I was in Afghanistan, not Iraq) and a bunch of taxis pulled up. About 80 armed men got out and half walked over to where we were and half walked over to the other - they road in together. I ask the translator WTF! He explained they fight for whomever pays the most or threatens them the most. They could be on the other side tomorrow! I didn’t trust any of them

Juliette Reacts there are a lot more : it was also great to see. These people were the most generous I have ever met. They would give us the last food or water they had. We always tried to help out when we could. Fix their roof/fence, give them food/water/medicine/winter items. This society (in some places still) lives in the Bronze Age - maybe Stone Age. They were surprised at some of the things we had. Sorry. It was very different and at times horrifying and other times beautiful

This one is most specifically about Iraq and killing Saddam Hussain. "The War will only be over in a month" twenty years later, we have nothing to show for it. An entire generation going on since I was a little boy. I went to fight the "War On Terror" and got the metal for winning, what a complete joke. This honestly makes me think of two songs, Masters Of War sung by Ed Sheeren and Human by Rag'n'Bone Man. Worked anywhere from 72 to 84 hours a week for $2,000 a month for 5 years in a job you couldn't quit or get fired, so you just kind of have to deal with it. I hope I don't have to explain myself and don't garner no hate for my differing opinions than my fellow Servicemen. I just couldn't find no sense in it.

People in Arab country are weird when it comes to child mortality I had a friend who had to deal with a case where an Afghani soldier was so high off his ass off opioids he drove his vehicle into a ditch and turned 2 kids into red smears. Ended up having to talk to the family of the victims and the Afghani military basically gave them a few thousand dollars and it was all forgiven just like that.
The reason being is that they are old fashioned they view children as a resource. Its like need more hands to help herding the goats and sheep? Pop out a few kids and its all good... So what if a few of them die along the way you can always have more...
Combine it with an Allah wills it mindset where everything is gods will and it gets worse. The only time the death of a child REALLY effects them is if its the first born son or the favorite that dies.
Touching on that Allah wills it viewpoint it even extends to maintenance of vehicles and weapons if god wants it to work it will if he doesn't it wont. Some guys who were charged with training personnel from places like Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia had a hell of a time where the people who they were trainings equipment was failing do the lack of basic maintenance to the extent where they would drive a vehicle until it ran out of gas then abandon it not even bothering to try to refuel it or dich a vehicle with an easily fixable flat because "god didn't want it to work so why bother".
