    How about a MODE mnemonic?
    " I D-ont P-unch L-ike M-uhammad A-Li "
    I =IONIAN (I)...MAJOR
    D=dorian (ii)...minor
    P=phrygian (iii)...minor
    L=LYDIAN (IV)...MAJOR
    M=MIXOLYDIAN (V)...MAJOR
    A=aeolian (vi)...minor
    L=locrian (vii)...diminished (°)

    As a child, I learned to play the accordion. There, the buttons in the left hand are arranged vertically in a line along a quarter-fifth circle. When the white buttons on B end, the black buttons go above starting with F sharp and so on, and below the white button F there is a black button B flat and below there are flats in a circle. So you can easily remember everything without a circle.

    Just a friendly disagreement that the circle of 5ths doesn't live on the fretboard here. Even using the L-seventy seven grid, we can see it most certainly does exist. For the sake of this simple example, go to the low E string (string 6), and begin at the very first fret, F.
    From here, perform the 145 as you do with the L-77 grid.
    145 pattern starting from F = F (1), Bb (4), C (5)
    C is the 5th, now make it the Root which looks like:
    145 pattern starting from C = C, F, G
    G is the 5th, now again make the 5th the R:
    145 starting from G = G, C, D
    Continue in this pattern and you've just moved in the Circle of 4ths and the Circle of 5ths at the same time. Every time you do the 145 and then make the 5 your R to begin the 145 pattern again, by the time you reach the e (string 1) you will have spelled out FCGDAE minus the B. You can do this anywhere using the L-77 grid and it spells out the circle of 4ths and the circle of 5ths at the same time, even going downwards in from string E to e, which is normally understood as only the circle of 4ths. This is just one way of being able to see the circle of 5ths on the fretboard. There are others, and that's because it does live on the fretboard. It's awesome how the guitar informs us of everything we need to know, we just need to be able to see the patterns. Anyways, consider this a cheers from me. 🥂 I'm not trying to be the mean contrarian comment, just sharing what I know; and I've certainly learned a lot from you too, Ricky. Love from California 🌿

    I used to think Jimmy Hendrix was the best guitarist in the world. Then in my tenth year of learning guitar I realized there is no best guitarist. It's such a loaded statement.

    Is Flat and Minor synonymous?

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! No! It's a very common mistake to think they are. For instance minor 3rd and flat 3rd are the same interval but they are from 2 different frameworks. Maybe I should do a video about it!
