    I got a mower like this for free and it needed a new flywheel key and I got one like that and there were no videos on the internet like this one on how to put it in. Thanks so much!!!

    Tecumseh Flywheels are supposed to be torqued to 46 Ft lbs if cast iron and 37.5 if Aluminum and up to 58 Ft lbs on some models. Just to let you know maybe that's why the key sheared! I work on these things everyday! Just a thought and constructive criticism. :) Have a great day!

      +d blixt Thanks for the information, much appreciated ! It sheared I believe from hitting unseen tree roots in my yard stalling the engine out damages the sheer key. I have a wicked yard when the grass gets high.

      two different shops and each sold me a different flywheel key for my 6.5 HP Tecumseh lawnboy mower.
      (LV195EA-362044D)
      #611298
      solid rectangular no odd shapes. Solid steel.
      #611004
      The other key appears to be aluminum. Slightly taller than the listed above and shaped like an “L” with one end being thicker and the other.
      I’m in a holding pattern, any help or suggestions are welcomed. Thank you both

    All OK but which way did you install the 611004 key, with the offset to the left or the right? Or will it only go in one way?

      it should only do in one way. I remember the flywheel would not drop down onto the crank smoothly if I had it flipped the wrong direction.

    does the key go under the plastic collar?....i pulled the flywheel with a puller and the original key broke...i,m having a time figguring out how the new key goes back on...i,m used to briggs and strattons

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tim Spur nope, does not go under the plastic collar... should be a slight indentation in the crank where the key goes just above the collar and the flywheel on top. I tried installing without the collar and the flywheel will drop down too far on top of the engine and not fully bite with the flywheel key

      whats throwing me off is the odd shape of the key...the old one split in pieces

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tim Spur Yea it is off set a bit when it is in place..... its wierd, but when you have it in the right place, it goes in smooth

    How do you replace a woodruff key with the half moon facing the shaft? This is on a kawasaki and the damn thing keeps falling out!

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes you cam put the flywheel on and slide the key into the slot. If not, it can be tricky. Sometime I have seen people use a piece of paper, tape etc that doesnt effect it after install to hold it in place long enough to get the flywheel on

      @@More350Power thanks! I ended up finding out about a sweet little trick: valve grinding compound. It has enough stick and grit that it holds the key in place. Worked the very first time--and came in handy when I had to fix a stuck valve too...

    Boy, you skipped over the ONE part I needed to see. How you got the wheel OFF! Thumbs down. Sorry. Not an expert here, but you could have shown the couple Minutes it took for you to do that unless you had a hard time as well.

    • @More350Power
      @More350Power  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you would have seen might not have helped you.... like I said in the video I had altered the crank by re threading it to a metric size and decreasing the strength of the threads. Otherwise, you thread the nut on so that its level with the top of the crank.... tap the sides of the flywheel with a hammer and while gently prying up on the flywheel tap the nut/top of the crank and it usually pops up. Other times you need to use a puller but a combination of tapping and lifting up on the flywheel gets it done 99 percent of the time.
