Thanks for this advice, there is already too much music that seems just to be another formula. As you say, eventually, it has to be something that others can connect to, but taking the time explore without regard for those dynamics, will most certainly lead to something that is honest to ourselves. So much of my music starts as snippets, lines, chord progressions that simply go into my "lick book", and then over time, something blossoms out of those little nuggets.

I really love your content man. I had a question, are there any agencies which buy producers music for a flat fee? I remember that was possible but I don't think it's available anymore. I would love to find someone or company that purchases tracks they like from me and then I just surrender them for a fee

Hey Chris, some songs take minutes, some take years! Don't force it to be born. For me, writing music is the easy part. But, what is it you're trying to say? The thing is, you need an idea, the lyrical "hook". A title, something someone said to you or you read or overheard. Be honest. Start writing from (not necessarily about) your own experience then, if you want, modify it to make it inclusive (not just from your journal). In other words, don't write train songs unless you happen to be a hobo living on railway cars!
And mostly, listen to the greatest songwriters. You know who they are! If you just listen to one or two artists, your own music will be limited and obviously linked to them. Dig deeper. The more music you know the more you have to draw from and fashion it into something uniquely yours.
