Bei den Aufzählungen der besten Gitarristen (Musikern) wird Frank ZAPPA leider immer vergessen! Ob bewusst oder unbewusst, es ist traurig, so ein großartiger Musiker!!!!
I just read he was "not the most technical" player as if this was something a guitarist could be judged by. He could take you to places with his solos and honestly I can't think of another guitarist that could pull that off. ZAPPA 4Ever!
Zappa was the weirdest coolest and most badass songwriter ever, and he was a genius guitarist who played with the cunning of the insane. His true test of greatness is, you can start a Zappa jam with any song he ever did, it will be great and you don't give a fuck how long it lasts, it always ends too soon. Truly, the ONLY artist I never get tired of and who always amazes me with his effortless musical sophistication masquerading as deranged lunacy.
I’ve heard people say he’s a shit guitarist and I couldn’t agree less with them. No Zappa’s not a shredder like Vai or Malmsteen are, but there’s a fantastic sort of style to his guitar melodies, almost as if the guitar’s trying to tell you something when he’s playing a solo.
I hope younger generations are able to hear, absorb and appreciate his music. When I started out as a drummer I was all about John Bonham, Ginger Baker and Neil Peart. Then I heard 'Montana.' It opened an entirely different part of my mind. After that I couldn't get enough Zappa. Still my favorite musician, composer and overall life influence. I played 'Muffin Man' for my son when he was five years old. Up until the solo he kept giving me these strange looks as if to say "my dad is weird." As soon as the solo started he started air guitaring and jumping off the couch, running around. He was totally sucked into the moment and he got it. Proudest moment of my life.
That's awesome John, been a Zappa fan ever since some friends in high school turned me on to his albums Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation and I've never looked back, rest in peace Frank Zappa.
The good thing about Frank Zappa is the fact that he recorded and archived everything. And so we can gradually learn more and more about him, hear more and more, see more and more. That is wonderful. Born in 1950, I was a fan of his from the very beginning. His "promoter" in my circle of friends.
I saw FZ twice in the early 80s during these purple jumpsuit days, in Berkeley California. He had 9 musicians on stage and it was as well oiled as a symphony, the sound beautifully balanced. Brilliant shows.
From his beginnings as a director of orchestra to Jazz From Hell. Pure, unadulterated genius. His insight and creativity is unsurpassed. Each note accounted for and played with precision. Most folks couldn't get passed the words as the music kicked at their empty heads....they miss the whole point. He is missed. A true pioneer in music.
I don't think you should rude to people who don't like Frank's music. It is not everyone's taste. For example, it does get you emotionally, it's very cerebral music, as many of these comments show. They respond to it mentally, not emotionally.
@@paulinebutcherbird It’s very understandable why people didn’t like his music, but it was meant to be stupid and a bit wacky in sound. People respond to the humour in it very emotionally, a lot of people found it genuinely funny, some people found it just really stupid, which is perfectly understandable, Zappa was an oddball. But his talent and prowess deserves respect.
I ain't one to typically comment on anything, but this is a worthy exception. Unbelievable piece of music!!! Band are as tight as you like. The groove (for any drummers) sits right in the pocket and young Steve Vai is impeccable. You can't help but admire this group of musicians, as its evident they are all major league. In a world where we are bombarded with commercial trash, Frank Zappa provides a stunning escape. The classical music elements and influence is definitely apparent. So effing glad I got into this. It takes quite the jump into the unknown at points but ultimately a combination of first class musicianship and added humour is quite enlightening indeed.
Well, the percussive elements in many respects. Fanfare like fills, with keyboard and synths mimicking brass sections. Orchestral sounding at times. The complexity and rhythmically ‘free’ style of Franks solo playing. This is a song which has many varieties. Throughout all the live albums, the band have usually mixed it up and push the boundaries every time. It says a lot about a band, who were never afraid to experiment with each tune, and throw it a different theme and rhythm altogether. Frank was hugely influenced by the likes of Stravinsky and Webern.
No problem at all! Sorry it took a while to respond (2 years haha) the exact amount of time I’ve taken; enjoying Frank Zappa’s amazing work. It’s a serious catalogue of music but has brightened many of my darkest days. Enjoy
In and around 74, I was walking through the fraternity house and I heard this bizarre music from an album called Apostrophe. I paused, listened and realized I was listening to genius. Since then, I've collected every album and continue to listen to them as mp3s. Frank was a brilliant man who created some of the greatest music I've ever heard.
What's truly great about FZ, is the solo's are not written but everytime they're off the cuff, improvised. In other words, they're never played the same way twice. As a guitarist, that is genius.

Same here, but 5 times. Three times in the seventies and twice in the very early eighties. Once in a college auditorium not twenty feet away from him and his body guard. Tickets ranging from 5.50 to 7.00 a piece back then.
Zappa, Frankie Boy IS The MAN, Always WAS the Man, Always will be the Man, you see , we were there and PLEASE show me where are we to go today for the same kind of Quality, Commitmen, Brilliance and Genius !

I was fortunate enough to see Frank Zappa twice! First time in NJ. The second time at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, PA.... He was one of THE BEST guitar players EVER in my opinion.
God Bless you and your boyfriend cause I lost my wife of 40 years and the torture never stops but I thank God he gave me her love. And love is the greatest to find and have
I saw Frank years ago at the New Haven Arena. Chuck Berry was the opening act. Frank and some of the other "Mothers" came and sat in the audience they all wore the plastic glasses with the rubber noses. Frank had on his shirt that said Pipco. I don't know what it meant but he wore it on his "Lumpy Gravy" album. Just before the show I was walking around the Arena. I saw an open door with a couple of cops standing nearby I walked in the door and Frank was sitting there. I wanted to ask him if I could join the band. I said "Fra..." and one cop had one arm the other the other. They did not toss me but told me to stay away from that room. I have always considered Frank a musical genius all one has to do is listen to his amazing music just incredible. I also wanted to meet Susie Cream cheese but no luck. PEACE
Pipco is the name of a little league baseball team where he lived in CA then It was sponsored by - no shit - a pipe company - PIPCO. LOL, so it's not some metaphor for anything except these kids or the pipe company.
Steve Vai in a documentary for Netherlands TV many years later in 2007: "There's times when you are at your best, in this this particular event which was soundcheck, Zoot Allures, Halloween, NY city Palladium, Frank just played the guitar like I've never seen anybody in my life."
everyday, all week long, the torture never stops for me. The yelling, the suffering, and nobody doing anything to help but watch. The Torture begs to be fed by the suffering. God help me. Thanks Frank
I got my first car in '76. I still had enough money to by an 8 track player for it. But not enough to by any tapes. So my friend swiped one from his brother's car. It was "Roxy n Elsewhere"! First time I ever heard it. I still dig Zappa today! in 2019!
The song reflects such a deep mind at work carrying out this live capturing the shear brilliance of his energy and visons in motion for a large scale and spectrum of creativity and invention.. an awesome live version of a harrowing unique song!
In 1967, my buddy Sigmon played "Freak Out" and "Absolutely Free" for me and I've been a Frank Zappa fan ever since. I've been fortunate enough to see him in concert at least a dozen times since 1969 and have about 35 of his albums. "The Torture Never Stops" is my favorite FZ composition.
For those wondering this was released a few years ago on the DVD: (an evening with Frank Zappa during which...) " The Torture Never Stops". Its from the 1981 Halloween Concert at the NYC Palladium. The audio of all those concerts was released last month in the HALLOWEEN '81 box. All excellent official releases.
Zappa was the shakepearant expression of all the emotions that could " cross " our mind and push us to be realistik about human expression and his theatre...every day!

The torture never stops, but I use this cut to at least, keep it at bay and retain some semblance of sanity. Bravo!!
Even when frank sounds off he’s still right on top of the grove, absolute chaotic perfection
Lucky me. I have seen Frank Zappa & Band 3 times live on stage! :-)
Same here, but 5 times. Three times in the seventies and twice in the very early eighties. Once in a college auditorium not twenty feet away from him and his body guard. Tickets ranging from 5.50 to 7.00 a piece back then.
Six. One with Captain Beefheart.
Zappa, Frankie Boy IS The MAN, Always WAS the Man, Always will be the Man, you see , we were there and PLEASE show me where are we to go today for the same kind of Quality, Commitmen, Brilliance and Genius !
Nobody come close! I cry listening to this solo! Pure art!
Crazyest motherfucker
Totally straight
Respect
You must love Frank
👑👑👑👑👑
I was fortunate enough to see Frank Zappa twice! First time in NJ. The second time at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, PA.... He was one of THE BEST guitar players EVER in my opinion.
el mejor guitarrista y maestro que tuvo este mundo
God Bless you and your boyfriend cause I lost my wife of 40 years and the torture never stops but I thank God he gave me her love. And love is the greatest to find and have
I was there. We never missed Zappa on Halloween at the Palladium. Amazing shows, the sound quality was amazing (still is).
This is one of my favourite songs of all time, and all of the covers by Frank are the best.
What covers?
@@paulinebutcherbird blues songs about torture duh.
@Toughen Up, Fluffy Actually, no I didn't. It's true or according to what I have heard and from good sources. Look it up.
@Toughen Up, Fluffy I just looked it up. He's right, Zappa said so in an interview.
Uno de los mejores solos de Zappa.
Estoy de acuerdo maestro! Que creatividad que tenia..
Check out Willie the Pimp from Hot Rats. He plays a blistering solo.
Transcendant ... Merci monsieur Franck.
Jeeeeeeeezzzzzz!!!!!
Really miss him!
Zoot Allure(s)...
Never heard it LIVE, and it's really a nice surprise ...
Thanks for this upload !
Steve Vai in a documentary for Netherlands TV many years later in 2007:
"There's times when you are at your best, in this this particular event which was soundcheck, Zoot Allures, Halloween, NY city Palladium, Frank just played the guitar like I've never seen anybody in my life."
I love this guy...
Great Mind. Check Live in
NEW YORK, with Don Pardo... Priceless concert!
Chills too!
Chad Wackerman (drummer) is so great. They all are of course
Vegadeth ; drumming was superb 👍
Wackerman, great name for a drummer
Great drummer. Reminds me of Chris Layton, SRV. He knows when to punctuate the note and when to schuffle.
All of his drummers were so different. All incredible. Bozzio is my personal favorite.
@@amydesrosiers1936 Bozzio is one of my favorite drummers. Such a cool guy too
everyday, all week long, the torture never stops for me. The yelling, the suffering, and nobody doing anything to help but watch. The Torture begs to be fed by the suffering. God help me. Thanks Frank
Yes
I got my first car in '76. I still had enough money to by an 8 track player for it. But not enough to by any tapes. So my friend swiped one from his brother's car. It was "Roxy n Elsewhere"! First time I ever heard it. I still dig Zappa today! in 2019!
Now, thats what you call a great friend!!! :)
So long Frank...we miss you!
Frank is a Genius. I love him forever❤
I was there, Thanks for sharing this. It is outstanding.
Man...he's a great guitarist !
In addition to his sense of humor, he was actually preaching non-violence. We could use more like him.
He was very clever with stuff like that, extremely smart man.
The song reflects such a deep mind at work carrying out this live capturing the shear brilliance of his energy and visons in motion for a large scale and spectrum of creativity and invention.. an awesome live version of a harrowing unique song!
His carving style is well rehearsed
God Bless Frank Zappa
The man was a fuckin genius 🎸🎸🎸🎸
In 1967, my buddy Sigmon played "Freak Out" and "Absolutely Free" for me and I've been a Frank Zappa fan ever since. I've been fortunate enough to see him in concert at least a dozen times since 1969 and have about 35 of his albums. "The Torture Never Stops" is my favorite FZ composition.
Eterno ..Zappa ...✊✌️👏🇦🇷de Argentina
For me my humble opinions that means nothing but for me he is the greatest musician I've seen !!!
I can't thank my dad enough for always playing Zappa when i was 8-10... RIP pops, i still bang Zappa for you daily
WHAT A MARVELLOUS MUSIC! WHAT A GENIUS FRANK ZAPPA! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Zappa was the shakepearant expression of all the emotions that could " cross " our mind and push us to be realistik about human expression and his theatre...every day!
one of Franks' best. great solo!
Surprise not seeing a cigarette in his hand... but see Ruth smoking one...and as usual Zappa is excellent on guitar...
Wonderfull musician,a genius of music.
you left us decades too early, Francesco... at least i got to see you in the flesh at other shows.
AZ/DZ @ Lingerie & Terry's solo show @ the Palace. thanks for waving back at me 🙏🏼
I wish I could give this video more thumbs up. Awesome concert!
Ein eigenwilliges, kreatives Genie und unauslöschlich in der Musikgeschichte. Es wird niemals wieder einen solchen Menschen geben.
The one and only....
I cannot believe it is 20 years he been gone :-(
"3 years ago
I cannot believe it is 20 years..."

Utube movies
Your date is incorrect
It looks like they have really fun on The stage, and his outfit is hilarious😎
Zappa has been a major musical influence for me and thousands of other musicians. Two people I wish were still around to help cope with these troubling times: Zappa and George Carlin.
Yes.
So much indeed lately, Robbin Williams & Jim Morrison or my other two big ones.
Solo full of the vocabulary in “Rat Tamago” & the tone of “Heavy Duty Judy.” Chad looks about 13 yrs. old. GREAT CLIP!
What a man, just great.
You posting this is so importent .sincerely thanks,Sylvia
Halloween 2020 and this hit is still going strong!
Thanks for posting I am a huge Zappa fan what a cool type of musical genius
I know it has been said umpteen times.....but how we were robbed by losing FZ so early in life :(
What a blessing that Dweezil has taken over the reigns for keeping his music alive in concert halls !
And doing a great job of it.
I was at these shows! Great band. I still have the shirt!
