Mr. Schwartz and the DSM / Humboldt teams are doing incredible work, but this video is really special... and I bet most people don't even totally see why. Imagine not only being able to explain, in highly technical detail, everything about your, frankly, unmatched and inventive technology... but doing so in more than one language, while also being able to demo the product like a pro. Now imagine being able to do so with humility and poise. All while being willing to improve on something that already sounded like an absolute monster. Props on the much-desired addition of what sounds like a really warm and complimentary reverb, by the way.
Great stuff! DSM & Humboldt are blazing a trail into uncharted territory to produce authentically tube-like tones using solid-state analog electronics. Sounds great, and to have it in such a tiny package is nothing short of magic.
OK so after researching this and watching multiple demos I acquired this a few days ago. I have to say that I am beyond impressed! I'm a tube amp snob thru and thru but this little box has given me a great option for home playing, practice and recording. I've tried it with both headphones and with my powered studio monitors and it sounds and feels incredible. Has all the feel of an actual tube amp which is so important to me. Gets great clean and over-driven tones and easily cleans up with my guitar's volume knob. About the only knock I found is that it is very noisy even with 'buckers if everything is maxed but I would seldom if ever even do that. I have yet to try it with pedals but I am confident it will work just fine with my stable of boxes. I'm also sure it would be a realistic option for live performance. All I can say is KUDOS DSM/HUMBOLDT!
Congratulations for getting all the important stuff included. The power amp drive and responsiveness/dynamics and the interaction between preamp and power amp are so important and it looks like you’ve really done it and the name still holds true because you have simplified the controls for these types of amps. This is so important and the reason why so many people went to full tube heads coupled with attenuators and reamping capabilities - so they crank it up to capture the power amp magic but still control volume. You’ve done it without all the need for the full head and attenuator/reamp combination. I’ve just been using some preamps with a new analog pedal power amp emulator that also includes all controls for power amp function and features like negative feedback, bias, PI Gain, Master Output, Rectifier type, tube type, power (headroom response) simulation from 5watt to 100watt. Analog 9v pedal. You’ve done all that but with simplified controls. Really nice job! This is so much smaller than my tube JMP preamp plus PAE-1 power amp emulator plus Torpedo CAB M+, which is infinitely smaller than my previous 50 watt hand wired Plexi plus Fryette PS2 plus Torpedo CAB M+ setup. All dwindled down in size to a single pedal with three pretty iconic amps in it. One question - is there going to be a Simplifier DLX MKII? If so, how long until that is released?
The explanation of the amount of feedback among the different amps etc. was the best I've heard, and combined with the demo really makes your engineering shine. Great work.
I was using the ASC1 for months and never 100% happy with any setting, got the simplifier yesterday and right out of the box this thing sounds beautiful, all the settings are useful, I am so happy with this product that finally I feel relaxed everyday while playing and having a gorgeous tone with headphones or using my sound interface, thanks to Humboldt electronics you guys really understand what people need, thank you for such a great product!
The simplifier got even better! as an early adopter of this system (Owning a Simplifier DLX since 2021), I really enjoyed the tone, feel and response and how close it was to a fully fledged tube amp. I loved the versatility and endless routing options on the DLX and not having to worry about hauling heavy loud amplifiers to small gigs and band rehearsals. The only thing I couldn't fully cope with is the headroom when used with gain pedals as it felt a bit lower than I would like for certain applications especially for someone who wants to keep their dearly collected pedals on the board. Now having watched this video and other ones about the MK ii, I feel the simplifier has matured enough to deliver on its promise and there seems to be a leap of improvement in the tonal quality and headroom, really well done! I can't wait to get my hands on a MK ii!
Fantastic work on this device! I play a Silver Sky into the Simplifier mk2. I fully crank the power amp and preamp and it gives me the entire volume knob on the Silver Sky. Pushed clean at 3, full on rock at 5, searing and roaring at 10. I can feel the love that went into this little box.
This pedal is one of the best thought-out product I've seen, it's been designed to give the most possible features in the smalles form factor and it covers a lot of possible I/O configurations. But I have a little suggestions for the next revision: make the cab bypass switch work for both output jacks instead of just for the R one. This way we could have a stereo DI out to FOH via XLR and a stereo out for power amps + cabs via TS cables.
Yeah it is. It loses the "DI feel" of the original. Don't get me wrong, the original sounds great, but this just takes it to the next level. A subtle change but an absolutely amazing change.
I have a Simplifier DLX on the way. I use 2 channel tube amps with pedals when I can, but I'm running into more situations where I have to run direct. I'm sick of fiddling with modelers, IRs, etc. I'm hoping this will work with my pedalboard and switcher to give me a decent approximation of having the amp in there with no menus and crap to dial in. Just knobs I can see. The stereo option is a nice touch, as I have occasion to run stereo. It seems like a very well thought out, practical tool for the gigging guitarist.
Looks like a great pedal with impressive connectivity options. But every demo out there on the Mk II wants to show higher gain sounds. Let's hear some clear tones with pedals in front. I'd be interested in adding Dumble-ish, Two-Rock-ish, Matchless-ish tones in the future. Btw, can I use the DI capabilities independently from the amp features? Is the DI active or passive?
Good afternoon, I would be very grateful if you could answer a technical question for me. In your device there is a simulation of the output stage of a power amplifier. What kind of circuitry are you simulating, single ended or push-pull? What kind of distortion does the output signal have, meander or step distortion?
Hi !! The output power circuit has a push pull topology with a phase inverter and output stage. The transformer and speaker impedance curve is added and fed back to the phase inverter. While changing amp type it changes the feedback amount and the inverter balance.
@@dsmnoisemaker101 Thank you very much for your quick and knowledgeable reply! For a long time I noticed the characteristic distortion and compression of the push-pull output stage. Even realized it for myself on two low-power double triodes, with a real transformer and a “long tail” phase inverter. But together with the power transformer, the design turned out to be rather bulky and served me only for home exercises. I wondered why no one ever came up with this idea. And then suddenly I found you! Congratulations, well done! I wish you excellent commercial success and new creative ideas! And, yes, you've just sold another one of your marvelous pieces.
@vitaliy3950 yeah!! I'm always eager to talk about the technical stuff.. few ppl are really interested or can understand what the h**l I'm talking about. 😄
I ordered mine yesterday. I am very excited to get it next month when the backordered stock will arrive at sweetwater. I love going direct but the minor latency kinda bugs me. I also like the idea of analog being more future proof.
The units has impressive features to say the least however the focus here is on saturated tones, overdrive, clipping which sound extremely convincing. If you are more of a clean player will it be a better choice to take the first version or the mkII? Or does the original version cover all the needs already?

I loved and still use DSM & Humboldt Simplifier. But I didn't see the sum mono feature.
Ok, so here goes. Don't hate me. I purchased the Mk.1. After around 3 weeks of trying my best with endless combinations of effects, outboard gear like EQ and compression, different guitars and pickups BUT I sold it because 1) The loop clipped SO early. Not *good* or desirable clipping, either. 2) It couldn't handle my drives, distortions, and Fuzz. Well, most of them 3) It was so *DI*- so direct. A DI Box trying to be an amp & Cab Sim Have any of these issues been addressed in the Mk.2? Sure does seem to sound better. Cheers from NZ/Australia
Superb playing and explanations. About Bypassing the cabsim and the preamp, I'm confused with the labeling. Can you help ? One switch says "LeftThru", and the other "RightCab Bypass". Does that mean that only this output is affected by the change ? Or both ? For instance, when I want to bypass the cab sim, can I still run the signal in stereo by sending Out L and Out R to different amps, or is only the Right Output affected by the switch and cabsim-less ?
@dsmnoisemaker101 Another probably common question. Will it be different if I power the unit with 12v instead of 9v? (maybe headroom?) Can you explain? Great product. I have preordered yet.

I'm using the DLX 4cm with my helix & it sounds killer! Has the MKII still have the same ins & outs & can you bypass the pre amp? Great job to all at DSM 👍🏼👍🏼
So can the preamp and power amp topographies be changed independently? For instance, could I use the Bassman preamp with the MS Brit power amp setting to approximate something like a Superbass?
When using the OUT R with Cab Bypass toggled will it include the pedals I have in the effects loop? The first DSM didn't allow you to include the effects loop pedals when using the thru on the OUT L.
I appreciate the complex analogue cab sim included, and if I purchase the Simplifier MK2, I'll probably use it most of the time. However, the main reason why I never got the first one, is that there was no option to bypass the cab at all. No matter how good your analogue solution is (and I trust that it is good, it sounds good in the demos), the ability to use impulse responses after the simplifier would make it a lot more flexible in a recording situation. Is it possible to bypass the cab on the MK2?
You can go to iRs from the SEND output and not returning to Stereo CabSims on the SIMPLIFIER (same as is in the Classic version). Nevertheless this version includes a CABSIM BYPASS on the RIGHT TRS OUTPUT (that is switcheable).
@@dsmhumboldt Thank you very much for the reply! I haven't thought about using the FX loop, but the presence of the dedicated switch to bypass the cab makes it even easier.
@@dsmhumboldt Does doing this bypass both the Power Amp and the Cabsim like the Classic version though? I think what they, and I, would like is an option to output the Preamp+PowerAmp to an IR cabsim. The Power Amp sounds so awesome on this BTW.
@dsmnoisemaker101 When it will be available in Argentina? Also, what happened with the spread feature? Did you take it out? Can you explain Why? Great product! Waiting!
@dsmnoisemaker101. Another probably common question. Will it be different if I power the unit with 12v instead of 9v? (maybe headroom?) Can you explain?
I wish the reverb had a shorter tail, more of a room/small space sound to compensate for the lack of mic distance settings. No one's gonna use a longer reverb which they can't switch on and off with remote control. Everything else looks and sounds gorgeous. What a shame about the reverb, though... Please fix that in the DLX mkII version and I'll buy it! I wonder... If the reverb side of the device is digital, maybe there will be a way to tweak reverb settings via firmware update? what AD and DA converters are you using for this device? Isn't it all-analog anymore?
We set up the reverb tail the way it adds ambience yet not invade your tone. DLX has three different types of reverb (ROOM/PLATE/ETHER) and they’re switcheable using the remote control included. Reverb is side chained so it is not “into” the analog signal, no need conversion.
So does the output just connect to powered PA speakers? Or does it go into an interface? Seems like so many ways to use it yet I feel like I’m missing something. Can it be used with a regular passive guitar speaker cab? Do studio monitors need to be high quality to really have this device replace a tube amp? Everything I try with headphones just never sounds good to me. I recently bought a computer and interface and never use it because I can’t get a good direct tone. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not very tech savvy…Any help would be great! Thanks all
This might me just right for you then! Personally the headphone out is just right for me because it has good amp dynamics and cab sim. You do normally plug it into a pa or mixer into studio speakers. But for just headphones I could also recommended the DSM pedals
This unit is made for direct recording. You can connect it straight to PA mixer on the stage, or to studio desk to record guitar. You don't need to bring your guitar amplifier to the venue / studio. Hope it will help you.
is this coming with the switch pedal ????? Thanks oW, is it just a 1 channel ? It's kinda a downgrade to the other one, as this sounds kinda "better" with the Poweramp thing, it's a shame to be just 1 channel, kinda dealbreaker, awesome sounds but how I can use it live?
pardon my ignorance. but do I necessarily need to use the outputs in stereo? because in all the videos I watch from the pedal, they always use it like this, via xlr.
Not necessarily, you can use it mono and the sound quality is same. The good thing about the SIMPLIFIER is that you can run an entire mono signal chain and use it in stereo (if you want to).
@@dsmhumboldt Thank you for the reply...Although i was really hoping it would have stereo send Stereo return....But i do admit this pedal is very very good...
keep all the settings the same: just have a boost or adjust for the preamp gain (I'd hate to have to replace that overdrive with another pedal) then back to clean
What DSM need to do in MK3 is stick a couple of microtubes or nutubes in the pre and poweramp. Itd be bigger and maybe a little more expensive but itd sound crazy good.
I bought it. It can get you through a gig in an emergency but isn't as good as some of the new modellers on low gain or, my preferred, just an amp. Let's face it, if the drummer has a regular kit, there's no reason to not play an amp, unless your amp sucks. Anyone who thinks this sounds like an amp needs a better one.
It's probably just me, but I found all the opening sounds horrendously harsh, painful to listen to, especially form the Strat. And I've lost a lot of top end from my hearing!
Daniel was showing the power amp drive distorting at maximum level (mostly of people won’t be using this way tho). It is actually exactly as an actual tube amp clips from the power amp distortion. Many guitarists are not familiar with power amp distortion at all (that requires tons of volume) since many have never played on a real tube amp cranked. Nevertheless you can clean it up very well, and use the power amp drive to add that sense of breakup and compression only a tube amp can achieve, but If you don’t like it that way, you can roll down power amp drive and keep it more linear as mostly of amp simulator does nowadays. This In-Depth tour doesn’t focus on the typical sounds you can get out of these kind of units since it’s not a demo, it’s more like an explanation of how the interactions works. Stay tuned for the sound bites we’ll be posting within this NAMM week. Thanks for stopping by and leave a comment!
@@dsmhumboldt Many thanks for the detailed response, and that extra information. Much appreciated. I mostly play with clean tones with a bit of 'hair' provided by a Klon clone, my favourite tone being Peter Green's on 'Need You Love So Bad', so I'll look out for the future videos!
I’m curious about this... I think I know what you mean (he does make some mention about being “too shrill”) I guess time, more demos, will tell, plus it’s hard to judge without guitar being in a mix... I’ve heard many demos through tube amps that sound harsh. For my part, there’s a demo of a Origin Effects compressor by gearmandude “Origin Effects SLIDE RIG Compact compressor pedal” he’s using telecaster and slide and it sounds great... it would be interesting how close he could get to that going through the Simplifier. Also, there’s the classic rock staples such as Felder’s Les Paul on Hotel California, Page’s tele lead on Stairway, and his Les Paul on Since I’ve Been Loving You (the solo). Angus Young’s SG on Thunderstruck, Knopfler’s strat on Sultans of Swing and So Far Away... and, for something a little more obscure, Doyle Bramhall’s strat on Dogs, from Roger Waters’ In The Flesh sounds amazing (I’m sure he has Univibe on certain parts) I think these are good tones to emulate and I suspect the MK II could get pretty close.
Sounds like trying to eat a curry pie while wiping your butt after mild diarrhoea.... frustratingly delicate business producing potentially volatile angst.
Good dynamics, good dynamic frequency response, good compressive technology, good monitoring technology, nice pick up, nice power clipping, good resonance controls, but you gotta attach sensors to it, for much more smoother and effective control, for much more better dynamics. ✌️🫶🤘👍

Quem é o revendedor oficial no Brasil?
@dsmnoisemaker101 When it will be available in Argentina? Also, what happened with the spread feature? Did you take it out? Can you explain Why? Great product! Waiting!
We will be shipping them in May. We didn't include the spread since it has reverb now.
Saludos cordiales.
can you bypass just the pre/power amp section and just use the cab?
Sure! In that case what’s recommended is to connect it straight to CabSims through the RETURN inputs from your external Preamp.
Is the input stereo or mono? I’ve looked in the manual and pictures of the input jack but it’s hard to tell. I’m hoping it will accept stereo pedals.
@dsmnoisemaker101. Another probably common question. Will it be different if I power the unit with 12v instead of 9v? (maybe headroom?) Can you explain?
Will the 1/4 inch out include my effects in the loop if I select thru?
The first riff of this video blows my ears pls take my money
These guys have cracked the code!
How are the cleans?
I'm looking for something to work as a direct clean stereo pedal platform
The cleans really shine, particularly the Vox channel.
When it will be available in Usa?
Thanks
oW, is it just a 1 channel ? It's kinda a downgrade to the other one, as this sounds kinda "better" with the Poweramp thing, it's a shame to be just 1 channel, kinda dealbreaker, awesome sounds but how I can use it live?
It's a masterpiece!
pardon my ignorance. but do I necessarily need to use the outputs in stereo? because in all the videos I watch from the pedal, they always use it like this, via xlr.
Not necessarily, you can use it mono and the sound quality is same. The good thing about the SIMPLIFIER is that you can run an entire mono signal chain and use it in stereo (if you want to).
@@dsmhumboldtoh, nice! One last thing, it's possible to do mono via xlr and/or quarter inch?
@@felipedourado yes
@@dsmhumboldt thanks
When will it be available?
They will be available in May
@@dsmnoisemaker101 Thanks
Oh wow so this is now even better than the dlx 😳 will have to buy this now!!! 😅
Both are different, not necessarily “better”. For example, DLX have more options in terms of routing, to some people that makes it “better”.
@@dsmhumboldt oh completely agree on that! The DLX is an engineering marvel! Totally loving it!
Since this, in essence, is a stereo pedal, does it have a stereo effects loop?
If it's anything like the original, the loop is mono send/stereo return
Sure it does! In this case is Mono send/Stereo return
@@dsmhumboldt Thank you for the reply...Although i was really hoping it would have stereo send Stereo return....But i do admit this pedal is very very good...
When will this be available to buy in the US?
You can pre-order now through many stores, Sweetwater for example, have the unit listed to preorders.
This one kinda sounds better than the DLX version too, at least to my ears.
Yeah, it sounds better, but the DLX still has more options, and its marshall tone is still one of the best around.
Has anyone tried lower tunings with one of these?
Amazing: if only it had channel switching options for live use.
keep all the settings the same: just have a boost or adjust for the preamp gain (I'd hate to have to replace that overdrive with another pedal) then back to clean
What DSM need to do in MK3 is stick a couple of microtubes or nutubes in the pre and poweramp. Itd be bigger and maybe a little more expensive but itd sound crazy good.
Gracias a ver tanto TV cable 🤣
Me (dressed as captain America): I understood some of these words
Super excited tho!
I don't think it sounds good enough, too bad. I would want an analog zero latency unit.
Angus Young’s SG on Thunderstruck, Knopfler’s strat on Sultans of Swing and So Far Away... and, for something a little more obscure, Doyle Bramhall’s strat on Dogs, from Roger Waters’ In The Flesh sounds amazing (I’m sure he has Univibe on certain parts)
I think these are good tones to emulate and I suspect the MK II could get pretty close.
