Thank you so much! Cutting the traced wood to fit in the center (an eight smaller) made the difference rather than the unstable seat board just perched on the chair seat! I now need to reshape the wood I have to the shape of chair seat. I'm learning! yay!
Hi. Love your videos. Thank You. I have a question I was hoping you can answer. As I cant find anything about it. . I bought some chairs to update and recover. My very first Ones. So clearly I didn’t know a lot. I thought the chairs were ones on a detachable board and could be easily recovered. Oh how wrong was I. They were webbed with foam overtop and to finish it off double piping. To replace those if I wish to change the fabric becomes a very expensive exercise. My question is. Can I change them to a board seat cover. And if I can. What size do you make the board pattern. To the exact size of the chair frame? Or smaller or bigger? Cos if I’m Going to do them I would like to do them once And properly. I greatly appreciate any advice you maybe able to give me on this. Thank you in advance. Kat.
Hello Kat, I think I have this right you’re saying you want to had attached seats, with double welt? Have you bought new chairs and you wanna make them removable slip seats? Too the board size, The general rule is about a half inch to 3/4 inch outside the frame on both sides in the front sometimes the bags because of the rails you can’t hang it over. I’ll have to see the style on the chair to be able to answer the back part. But the overall general rule is I finished a 3/4 hangover. The that too depends on the style of the chair all the styles are more flush to the wood. I hope this helps you. Thank you for watching the video and please share. Cheers, Paul
I have dining room chairs purchased in Spain years ago. I’ve always found them miserable so avoid using them. They have some sort of flat spring thing and webbing. One tends to sink into them allowing the frame of the seat to be felt under ones thighs. I really want to strip them down to the frame, somehow create a wooden seat like the one you are working with, and cover it with foam and upholstery. Is that an okay idea? Would it work? Are there places to buy wooden chair seat “blanks” or would I need to figure out how to creat one myself?
Hey, Thanks for watching our videos! Great question, this is a viable option, though you will need to cut the board out yourself. You’ll possibly need to cut corner blocks as well. These will go in the corners of the frame and support the wooden seat that you will be making. I hope this helps! Grant
Hi. Can’t believe it’s 8 months ago I asked you a question where does the time go. I can’t seem to add a pic of the chairs. Is there another way I can send you through a pic? Messenger? WhatsApp? I’m in Australia. The dining chairs I bought originally had webbing and were stapled to the outside of the chair and then had double welting to cover the staples. I want to just put a wooden base and attach to the chair underneath. I want to know how to make a pattern for the wooden base given I don’t have an old one to copy. If I could send a pic elsewhere I’m sure it’s an easy fix. I have hunted TH-cam and can’t find anything. Thank you in advance for ur help. I soooo want to finish the chairs.
Hello Kat, you will need to get fabric or paper to trace the seat frame. Add 1/2” to 3/4” to the front and SIDES NOT TOO THE BACK. YOU WILL NEED BUY CONER BLOCK. PUT CORNER BLOCKS IN all four corners underneath. Glue those on then when strong and dry the glue on the corner blocks. You will FIRST drill A HOLE SO A SCREW WILL GO THROUGH THE BLOCKS WITHOUT SPLITTING THE BLOCKS. PUT IT IN THE BLOCKS SO AS TOO PUT A HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE BLOCK OF wood you have. Use 5/8” plywood or solid wood. I am sorry I don’t have those apps for you to send pics. Please share the videos with others it helps me so much. Cheers, Paul
Hi, you two. You are adorable together! Question is should I use 1" or 2" foam. My chairs are used ALOT and I don't want a "brick" but my friend has dining room chairs that are oh so comfy. I think there must be 2 layers of foam in them because they are firm yet when you sit in them you have a "sinking down really comfortable seating" without an unattractive "dip" in the chair. My friends' dining room chairs are the only ones I can sit in for hour without hurting my back. (I have serious nerve issues at the base of the spine. I would love to replicate her chairs. So I guess the big question is if I "stack" the foam what type of foam (thickness, density, compression) should I get. Thanks so much
Hey, thanks so much watching out videos! Great question! To get a better idea of what they did for your friends dining seats, how thick would you say those dining seats are? If they did do two different foam pieces in the dining chairs it would most likely be a firm one on the bottom and a super soft one on top. Let me know when you can about the thickness of your friends dining chairs, and I will be happy help you the best I can!

Whay kind of plywood are you using?

Hi E Schleider, great question! We go over how to strengthen up your dining chair frame here: th-cam.com/video/_3JGqULJLKg/w-d-xo.html
Helpful👌🏼👌🏼
Jig saw is a much better solution for cutting the plywood.
