  • This special, broadcast on BBC One on 1 January 2006, showed the creation of Harris's 80th birthday portrait painting of Queen Elizabeth II. It was highly publicised because the Queen had never been seen on such a programme before. In it, Harris goes to Buckingham Palace where he meets the Queen and paints her in an impressionist style.

The Queen also though, has an unusual ability to put people at ease I've heard, as it can be a nerve wracking experience for people being in her presence. A skill she's honed over a long period doing what she does. The way she said naah was typical Australian. It's possible she unconsciously just copied what Rolf said, to put him at ease and lower formalities.

LOL Imagine a VIP doing something over & over again, that would get tiresome, especially if its a painting of themselves. We are always our own worst critic & IF you are of a stringent mind. For me personally, I like the idea of the seeing the impressions of each artist on the same subject, in this case Queen Elizabeth 2. The chattery was a bit distracting but considering who the artist was talking to, I's likely be a chatterbox also to get an impression of the personality I am painting, this helps create the atmosphere & persona of the person being painted & gives it character & life. I use to sketch with charcoal & graphite & standard lead & sometimes ink. Creation of a living object is difficult without mood & an idea of the personality. He didnt have much time with the queen & in my opinion he did a fantastic job.

When she was younger and in full regalia at state affairs she looked like a movie star - she was stunning... but almost anyone would stop the show when all dolled up by dressers and dripping with diamonds.
It was her dedication to duty and to her promise to serve that is exceptional. We have no way of knowing how many days she got out of bed feeling like hell and still went out smiling and shaking hands until her arms ached. She's getting the respect now that she's always shown to others.

Coming back to this two years later, when Her Majesty has died, and Rolf Harris is, apparently, desperately ill at 92, I'm left with a feeling of total sadness: it was a good portrait - far better than so many others; he was so pleased and so honoured to have the chance to paint her; and since then - total disgrace for him. I suppose he deserved it; I can't judge the sins of others, having enough of my own; but to dismiss him, to forget him, to cast him into nothingness - just isn't right. He WAS a talented artist - he was also a fallible man, and even at times a wicked one, if judged by standards he just didn't seem to understand. But there was far more to him than his crime, or crimes - he doesn't deserve to be air-brushed from history.

I won't go into all but basically Rolf had taken him in & included him as family as he had had a bad childhood. It was great to see them do a double act at parties. So imo this interview can still be watched for what it is becuase it's the Queen that makes it interesting, not Pedo Rolf.

Stop supporting greedy lawyers and their quest for money. Look at the way lawyers use the misguided, the deluded and the outright fraudulent.
Wendy Wild is a 54 year-old woman who is the 7 - 8-year-old mentioned by those who seek to demonise. This is the best example the muck rakers can think of to promote the theme of the male perpetrator + female victim.
Wendy Wild decided to go for some Harris money after she went bankrupt.
Wendy Wild alleged that Harris gave her a swift touch when she was at the head of an autograph queue, in a crowded hall 45 YEARS AGO.
Strangely she didn't tell anyone, strangely no one saw it happen.
It has been proven, by the police who were seeking evidence, that Harris was not at the location, a community hall in Leigh Park, Portsmouth, where she alleges this happened. Harris was not there either 3 years before or 3 years after the year that Wendy Wild was 7 years old.
The police searched the news archives, they questioned the staff of the hall in Portsmouth, they letter boxed residents of the town and they interviewed people in aged care facilities.
The police who did all this work are disgusted that Wendy Wild's accusation still resulted in a conviction.
All men should be warned by this. These are FACTS.

Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter were totally different to Rolf Harris. For a start there was actual evidence against them. Rolf Harris (if you actually bother to look into the details of the trial and the unprofessional way the police "investigated" his case) was convicted mainly after trial by media before his case came to court and his whole trial was clouded by the first case dealt with by the court, that he was accused of having molested an 8 year old. The other charges against him at his first trial were tainted by the accusations made by the woman who claimed to be 8 years old at the time. However, when the details of her accusations were investigated thoroughly by investigators acting for Rolf Harris at his subsequent trials, it was shown that the whole thing had been made up and consequently he was found not guilty of that charge. However, as he had already been convicted, it was too late to prevent the jury from perceiving him as being a paedophile. The other accusations for which he was convicted were also provably false or at the very least based on accounts that when looked at or scrutinised, could not have happened the way it was claimed. He was found not guilty of all other charges brought at his second and third trial after "victims" had brought stories to operation yew tree after responding to requests for "victims" to come forward having been told "you will be believed" with newspapers of a certain type boasting of potential compensation for victims being in the tens of thousands if not more. None of the cases on their own would have been enough to convict anyone. However, the fact that Operation Yewtree presented their "evidence" as if there had been a pattern was enough for the jury to decide, against real evidence, that he was guilty. There is a book out now by this investigation team (Rolf Harris. The Defence Team's Special investigator Reveals The Truth Behind The Trials by William Merritt) which quite clearly illustrates the shocking stitch up Rolf Harris was subject to. Anyone who genuinely thinks Rolf Harris was treated fairly should read this account and it will shock you to the core that someone could be convicted on the flimsiest of evidence. I think there is a suggestion that Rolf Harris may have been a bit tactile at times with people (not those who made accusations as most of them provably did not come in to contact with him or others whose account would have been witnessed by people if they had been true) as was the behaviour of people in the 70s and 80s, which doesn't condone that sort of thing but it was almost certainly not as sexually aggressive as was portrayed in court and certainly not paedophilia. As the book points out, the Metropolitan Police investigating these crimes were, at the time, involved with their own questionable practice of stamping new female recruits as an initiation ceremony where young police woman had their bare bottoms stamped with the station stamp while everyone else looked on! I know there will be people who take issue with what I have said, but I suggest you do a bit of research first and not just rely on what you are told by the tabloid media. As I said, Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter were totally different cases, but unfortunately Rolf Harris was tarred with the same brush, as was nearly Cliff Richard, Paul Gambaccini, Jim Davidson, Freddie Starr etc. all of whose cases were dismissed or fund not guilty through a lack of evidence and believability of the complainants.

As much as I loved the Queen she wasn’t the easiest to strike a conversation with. She can be quite difficult. She is abrasive at times, and makes others uncomfortable with her lack of replies and awkward silences. I imagine it must have been difficult for Diana to try to build a relationship with her. I also found her to be sarcastic at times when people asked her questions or tried to come forward to help her. We all just say ahhh isn’t she lovely, but if that was an ordinary person you would say don’t talk to me in that fashion. She got away with however she spoke because she was Queen, and we already had a great respect for her, but she came across as rude at times.

It's nice to read these honest insider views. I think a lot of people fail to realise that the image of the Queen they have has been meticulously crafted through the media presentation that she's been given. And this is the problem with the entire royal family as an institution.
Unfortunately, when you raise people to believe they're better than everybody else by blood, it's not surprising that they're actually not very nice people in general. But none of that matters if the only exposure to them are images of them waving and smiling to the masses, delivering inspiration speeches they didn't write, and being told at every opportunity how wonderful they are and how everyone else adores them.

You can see just how deeply impressed with himself he is, hanging on every single word, being ever so careful not to move too quickly for we might just miss a whole second of the ultimate harris charm and intellect. In the U.S. we have our version of this man, and his name is Cosby.

It's such a shame about Rolf, he was more than "just a celebrity'' he literally was a national treasure, its very upsetting to see his career and indeed possibly, his life, end this way.
I met Rolf briefly, about 20 years ago in Cardiff, He came across as such a warm, friendly gentleman, yet its clear now, He had a very dark sinister side.
    it's upsetting.

I'm not saying there's nothing in it, but media is a very cut-throat business full of egoists. Harris' demise may be more to do with professional jealousy than with what he did or didn't do
