Awesome NurseBass! He went straight to the point in a straight English. Sometimes instructors can be very technical and complex on simple topic like this one.
Reminder: Carotid arteries should be auscultated (listened to) before palpated. If there is a bruit, we don't palpate because you don't want to accidentally break off the buildup attached to the artery (potentially causing a stroke). Great video overall! Cheers!
I'm doing my first head to toe assessment today! Thanks for a quick tutorial. I picked this video because I didn't want to waste 40 precious studying minutes. Need a quick brush up before I head in. Wish me luck.
Great job! I've been a nurse for 4 years and am now in NP school. I stumbled across your video and really enjoyed it. I'm sure you are an inspiration to tons of students, especially male. Keep up the great work!
This helped me so much! My first assessment literally took me an hour 😂😂 Our instructor doesn't really go into detail about assessments and we're all still so lost about it but this video was awesome!!
Huge help! I start clinicals tomorrow, haven't done test outs on head to toe assessments yet, however I know this will be a huge part of clinicals. Thank you for clarifying this in a no nonsense-this is how I do it-approach. This is exactly what I needed.
I'm in my first semester in the ADN program at my school and will be tested on this next week. I was actually pretty nervous because our instructors kind of leave us to our own devices and we have to figure things out on our own (unless we ask questions), but this video made it so much easier. Just hearing someone talk it through the whole thing helps a lot. I'm so glad I found your video, it's really helpful. New subscriber for sure!
This helped me lots in my second year which was the first time I did a head-to-toe assessment. Now I'm going back into acute care for my fourth year, and you're helping again. Good foundational knowledge. Thanks Nurse Bass.
I'm an LPN (for about 12 years now) currently in the process of getting accepted into an RN program. They are making us do skills check offs, one being a head to toe assessment, which isn't something that is all that common for LPNs to do. I have been a nervous wreck, going over landmarks in my sleep!! This is the most helpful video and info I have found yet. Thanks!!
+Amayrane Diaz Hahah,, yeaaa no problem! I could have gone into much further depth in regards to abnormalities to assess for, but I didn't feel like making you guys watch a 45 minute video haha :p
@@NurseBass I would sit for 2 hours and watch watever u have to say cause u break things down very easily. Can u do video of talking about the abnormalities
I've seen an RN give a very poor assessment after a pts fall, shortly afterwards , I had to begin neuro checks , and you were very thorough , she basically looked for blood on the scalp. I'm learning so much from you thanks!
I gotta say, I'm not quite in nursing student yet still in pre classes, but more than all that it's such a gift the way you inspire people. For sure a God thing, in the near future, a nurse to be!
Thanks Nurse Bass. Just got signed off on my Pharmacology Clinicals. Moving on to Med-Surg thanks to you. Teacher asked me at the end: What do you think you missed? I was thinking real hard but I need I covered all your steps. Told her I didn't think I missed anything because I remembered all your steps. She said you didn't. I need you to be more confident. Yep, I was nervous but I did it.
My biggest like for this vid is the way you make this general assessment flow. I think that's sometimes the hardest part of learning all of the individual assessment separately. There's no flow...and every prof says, "you'll develop your own style and sequence". But it's nice to see (or hear) a nurse putting it together, Profs don't repeat their expected flow more than a couple of times. This is helpful to practice to and develop a timely routine for a H2T assessment. I also love that you are very verbal...it helps to absorb info even when I'm busy with housework or something and can't watch the screen. Thanks Nurse Bass!
I dont know what to say. Went to skills lab a couple days ago, the professor demonstrated the head to toe assessment and I left skills feeling overwhelmed and depressed, lol. I've got check off a few days from now and all of my study materials really complicate things. You make it seem so simple and actually fun. Thank you for doing what you do Nurse Bass. Thanks brother!...#FutureMaleNurse
Dude you are amazing, been a nurse for 9 years and loved the update for me. Seems we all get comfortable with our assessment, just reignited my assessment skills. THANKS! Winny Med/Surg RN
make sure to know which questions to ask, some you can clearly marked off. I totally asked a post menopausal 77 year old woman when was her last period it was so embarrassing . she laughed though so yeah that happened.
That's funny, but don't feel bad. I asked a lady who had gotten hit in the eye with a remote controller her pain scale; and then asked her where the pain was located. Totally didn't think that one through...
Wow. This is amazing. I’m in my first week of Nursing 1 and I’m preparing for my head to toe assessment and your video is so straight forward and easy to understand. Thank you!
I am a psych tech student and this video helped me a lot..to take notes and understand exactly where I need to start and go..even how to ask the questions!..I appreciate this..and learned a lot, very easy to follow! I have done some..but will be starting on fully alert patients tomorrow!..thanks!!
Thank you for helping first time nursing students I so sucked on my first test and was so hurt I been watching all your videos that been helping me alot
Dude you helped me sooo much I can’t tell you how much I wish I could give you a hug. You really worked the head to toe physically and the systems and I NAILED my assessment so THANK YOU
Literally this video is amazing. I'm freaking out about my head-to-toe assessment check off this coming week and you definitely helped calm my nerves by giving detailed explanations of everything.
Great information! I always started my assessments backward, starting at the toes. For some reason it always felt more comfortable for me to start that way ~ I would start with checking pedal pulses, heels for ulcers, etc and work my way up. It seemed to put patients at ease. Just my personal technique ~ Of course, if I was doing a focused assessment such as a mental status or pulmonary assessment, I would start at the point of concern.
Thank you so much for this video! I start clinical Monday, so I've been watching lots of head to toe assessment videos, and this is by far the most helpful one I've found 🙂 Time to binge watch the rest of your videos!
+Ash Bre Well I'm really happy to hear that this was the best video that you've come across in regards to the Head to Toe assessments. And I hope you find great benefit from my other videos as well and subscribe! :)
Graduating in August with my BSN. Thanks Nurse Bass! Helped me through some tough times. Can't wait to be the best I can be in the field and make a difference.
YOU covered everything, thank you, just started school. I was able to stop and go with the video and wrote everything down...Plese put more out there, you know the stress school could be.
This video was so helpful. You're so laid back and you have a great personality, so patients must love you! Just survived week 2 of nursing school! I'll be watching more of your videos for sure. :)
You are gonna be a great nurse, bro... for real. Knowledge is fundamental, but personality is essential when caring for people. Good nurse equals knowledge + personality.... and you got that! Best of luck! Thanks for the inspiration and support.
There are 2 videos I keep coming back to because they're so good about this and are helping me feel more comfortable about doing this. This is one them. Thank you so much!

I will perform this assessment tomorrow. I needed a video that contained the main point of head to toe and brush up on skills. Good video. Thanks Nurse Bass!!
man you really know your stuff. good assessment! I start my very first clinical day tomorrow so Im pretty much nervous about it. My instructor said that she will check how well we do our physical assessments. your video has been very helpful. thank you..

such a great video. I've been looking for a simple yet clear and easy to understand head to toe assessment for a long time. this would help me a lot in my 1st nursing job. (which I just got recently and I'm really nervous every time I do an assessment) you summarized everything really great.
+Achilles Jordan Rodriguez Well thank you so much for letting me know that you enjoyed the video! Congratulations on your first Nursing job!!! I really hope this video continues to serve you and just remember: the more you do something, the better you become at it! :D
excellent video ! going into clinical today in a few hour (evening shift, woot) and it feels like forever since I got to assess an actual patient instead of virtual, so this was a perfect review, thank you!
Thank you I felt you was right here doing it infront of me physically. I'm a visual learner and I wish you were one of my instructors. right now I would like to see how you would write up a Nursing diagnosis
This is sooo good! Thanks! Fast and a run through.... totally pointed out a lot of things I'm not observing/thinking about and reiterating things I've herd as a first year student. Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much! I am just starting my second semester and this is the first chapter we are doing. Seeing it done after reading (and before practicing in lab) is making it make more sense (it's a loooong chapter!). Thanks again!
thank you for this. we've been trying to figure this out all semester during Clinicals. my biggest problem so far is asking the patient to sit up and move and stuff like that because I feel like I'm really inconveniencing them
+Kirby Bradshaw Yea, it's very awkward at first having to turn on lights, wake up patients, have them move and turn every which way. But you'll get used to it with repeated practice. But you're welcome for the video and I hope it is helpful! Share it with your classmates if you think they'd benefit from it! :D
This is an excellent basic rundown of a Head to Toe Assessment! Obviously there are other details that one needs to assess for their patient, but to give someone a refresher or a general idea of how this goes this video is so helpful. Thanks Nurse Bass!
best video I've found so far! It helped me get a better flow in moving along with assessing head to toe instead of being all over the place.. you are awesome!! thank you! =)
Got a 95% on my Physical Assessment Test because of you . Thanks bro!
So happy to hear it! :)
So what did you miss if you don’t mind

Well that's wonderful! I'm happy you found the content helpful and hopefully your instructor finds it worthwhile as well!
This is sooo good! Thanks! Fast and a run through.... totally pointed out a lot of things I'm not observing/thinking about and reiterating things I've herd as a first year student. Thanks for posting!
Thank you! Basic need to know information. I look forward to watching more as I go through school.
You're welcome! I hope you come to find the rest of the content to be just as beneficial
Thanks so much! I am just starting my second semester and this is the first chapter we are doing. Seeing it done after reading (and before practicing in lab) is making it make more sense (it's a loooong chapter!).
Thanks again!
+Pamela G Haha you're very welcome!! Just remember, practice makes perfect!! So just hit that open lab and do it over and over and over! :)
Thank you so much, Nurse Bass! I’ve been SO nervous about my head-to-toe assessment! You’re a lifesaver!
:)
your video was very helpful, thank you LPN student here.
thank you for this. we've been trying to figure this out all semester during Clinicals. my biggest problem so far is asking the patient to sit up and move and stuff like that because I feel like I'm really inconveniencing them
+Kirby Bradshaw Yea, it's very awkward at first having to turn on lights, wake up patients, have them move and turn every which way. But you'll get used to it with repeated practice. But you're welcome for the video and I hope it is helpful! Share it with your classmates if you think they'd benefit from it! :D
Love the video! Starting my first hospital clinical tomorrow and this video helped me prepare major! Thanks!
Thanks for making this video!! Testing for my head to toe assessment this week. Your video has really helped me!!
This is an excellent basic rundown of a Head to Toe Assessment! Obviously there are other details that one needs to assess for their patient, but to give someone a refresher or a general idea of how this goes this video is so helpful. Thanks Nurse Bass!
No problem! :D
best video I've found so far! It helped me get a better flow in moving along with assessing head to toe instead of being all over the place.. you are awesome!! thank you! =)
Thank you so much for this video. Best Head to Toe Assessment video EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
