    People are criticizing ... to do this is nerve wrecking ... every sense of calmness and eloquence goes through the door once you step in the room . She’s good .. she did amazing ... despite the nerves .. it’s only natural .

    She did an amazing job. As a nursing faculty member, I would be impressed if I observed her doing this. Nursing studetns please note: because she says what she is doing, what she finds, and whether it is Ok, she showed the paitent that she is really competent, AND she reassured him. If I were observing her , I would KNOW that she has these skills nailed. Please follow her example. She is also very attentive to his needs, is confident, is organized, and used near perfect technique.

    She did an AMAZING JOB!! I can't imagine how nerve wracking this must of been for her knowing she is being recorded for a training/teaching video! However if this in fact a training video there are just a couple things they need to edit. The biggest is the patient's privacy, she should of closed the door or at the very least the curtain. Another is asking the patient if it is ok for his son to be in the room during the exam. Another is to ask the son to leave the room for just a moment just long enough to ask the patient if she may ask any questions in front of his son. If he says no then those questions are discussed then, after that she can invite the son back into the room to proceed with the exam and questions. Another is to raise up the patient's bed, this is only to protect herself from straining her back muscles. One question at a time for a patient this tired and on medication that has a side effect of drowsiness. It's to hard for a patient in pain and tired on top of the pain to focus on more than one question at a time. Small things like BP cuff left on the bed blah blah...... But AGAIN I will say this woman did a FANTASTIC job! She seems like such a sweet and caring woman who truly loves being a nurse and helping people suffering, hence whatever brought them to the ER. She is extremely thorough and takes her job very seriously. She doesn't rush through the exam like SO MANY nurses do!! I get it to many patients DEFINITELY NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ENOUGH NURSES!! AND LET ME GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO ALL NURSES EVERYWHERE, BECAUSE THEY DEFINITELY DO NOT GET THE RECOGNITION OR PRAISE THEY ARE DO!! NURSES run the ER, NURSES pretty much run every department they work in! Doctor's would be LOST without nurses and patients well lets not go there! NURSES bond with their patients, know their names etc....SO PLEASE CAN WE GIVE A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE NURSES AROUND THE WORLD, KILLING IT EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY!!!!

    She did a great job but the only thing I didnt like was that she was always leaning over. she should have at least brought the bed up to her height so that she does not hurt her back. Back pain are the number one things nurses suffer today. I hope others do not make this same mistake, other than that I really liked this video

    Nurse was friendly and kind--just a few things: (1) Door is open, curtains not closed. (2) She often asked more than one question at once. For a patient as tired and worn out as this, one question at a time would be better. (3) Before starting the assessment at all should have made sure it was OK for son to be present, and warn him then that she will need to be exposing his chest/abdomen, etc, instead of having to constantly ask, "Is it ok if I...". Made for lots of extra words. Plus, since what she was doing was essential to the assessment, it really doesn't do any good to keep asking, "Can I just do this...Can I just do that..." You need to say something like: "I need to do this, so I'm going to lift up your arm...leg...etc."

    This is a good simulation, actually almost like in a hospital. Although this is not a complete physical assessment. In hospitals complete physical assessment is almost none existent especially with the number of things that a nurse needs to do. This assessment lasted for 17 mins and 30 secs with a cooperative patient. In the real world it would be much harder. This is her first patient, and she has 4 more to go. If shes lucky, she can finish all her assessment in 1 hour and 25 mins, provided there are no unexpected complication, maybe more if there is. Lets not forget there are medications to be given, forms to fill out, blood to be drawn etc, maybe an admission or 2.

      This is a nursing student. An experienced nurse can easily do a complete assessment in under 10 minutes. This should be done on every patient at the beginning of the shift. This gives the nurse a baseline if any changes occur during the shift.

      +Dtksgirl ' There's a small speaker on the dolls mouth and the teacher is in another room "acting". You can regulate the pulse, blinking, heart/stomach/intestine noises and movement too. I'm not sure what kind of doll this is but in our school we have the simulation dolls in the simulation room where there are cameras, microphones etc so the teachers can follow what you are doing and respond.

Overall great video and acting combine . The best acting award goes to the Son. The Nurse was really great in that field as well seeing closing eyes of the patient and that was so cute well done.

    Nursing student here and a little confused. How does she get the BP using the cuff without the stethoscope?

    • @kaciebrooke92
      @kaciebrooke92 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you can get the BP by feeling the radial pulse.

    • @maiacalafat1
      @maiacalafat1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She's doing the 2-step method. The 1st step is by inflating the cuff until the brachial pulse is obliterated (meaning brachial pulse no longer felt). Then, she reads the number on the dial. This reading is the systolic pressure. For this step, no sphygmomanometer is necessary. On the 2nd step, looking at the dial, she inflates the cuff 30 mmHg ABOVE the patient’s systolic pressure that she collected from the 1st reading. This time she uses the sphygmomanometer and will start to deflate the cuff while letting the sphygmomanometer drop at a rate of 2-3 mmHg per second. The 1st sound she hears is systolic (again). The moment she doesn't hear any sound is the diastolic BP. The rationale behind the 2-step method is that by inflating the cuff at ONLY 30 mmHg above the systolic pressure, the HCP does not subject the patient to unnecessary pain/ discomfort in the arm.

    she is doing great, I still didn't get why she needed gloves though? i thought you only need PEs when handling bodily fluid or something.

      Always wear gloves with patients, they may have undiagnosed contact precautions. Plus this patient is immunocompromised due to chemotherapy and you wouldn't want to transfer anything harmful to them.

      It’s a habit for me to immediately put gloves on when I enter the room. Too many times I’ve pulled back covers to help someone with something that normally not require gloves and find something wet on those sheets.

    Never place the stethoscope over the scapula and always feel for C7. Posterior tibialis - inner not lateral. As a nursing student we lose points for that.

      +AhsanNader Most people think of a "normal" body temperature as an oral temperature of 98.6°F (37°C). This is an average of normal body temperatures. Your temperature may actually be 1°F (0.6°C) or more above or below 98.6°F (37°C).
