During most of the day, my voice is confident and goes high and low (just as in normal conversations, when you highen or lower your pitch for entonation), but at afternoon and night, specially, my voice sounds soft, high pitched and even childish, when I try to lower my pitch or just not speak loud, it just doesn't sound (sometimes it fries, sometimes it literally doesn't sound anything).

I was speaking a whole octave lower than my natural pitch (f3)! This almost always happens when I'm teaching guitar, especially to younger students who require more instruction. Voice ends up fried, gets better over the weekend. Never had any issue talking all day when I was working as a barman, then hanging out with friends until the early morning. So I really think that I go into this unnaturally deep voice whenever I feel like I have to seem more professional. Thank you so much for helping me realise this!

    • @PepperDeVillle
      @PepperDeVillle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I do the opposite- talk about an octave higher than my normal voice, because girls get made fun of for having a low voice. People used to call me a dude, call me "sir" etc. I actually didn't mind "sir" lol. At least it's respectful.
Anyway, I'm older now and don't give a crap what people think, so I think I'll try out my natural, deep voice.

Your being so authentic, warm, and spontaneous as you share REALLY helps me! I think my best speaking voice happens when I forget myself and I'm unselfconsciously engaged and connected. I'm an aspiring voice actor. Unfortunately over the years anxiety has contributed to unhealthy vocal habits and dysphonia. So while my challenge is to practice and become attuned to healthy vocal techniques and sensations across a range of emotions and emotive interactions, until they become habitual; my greater challenge is to let go and embrace (at the conscious level, I seem better when I'm unselfconscious) a new more authentic expressive range, and therefore personal identity. This is the big issue the challenge of letting go and embracing this "new natural" authentic personal identity -- Do you have any videos on this? That's why I soooo appreciated your example of authentic, warm, and connected sharing!! It reminds me, by showing me what I should be reaching for.. And yes I have now subscribed. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 💕

Thanks for this! It confirms what I had suspected a long time.
I'm really struggling with my voice. When I was a teenager (14-15 years old) I realised how irritatingly high and childish my voice was (I heard it on the tape and was absolutely mortified) Since then I've tried to lower my voice and now it's the only way I can speak. However it is completely destroying my voice - I cannot sing at all anymore and after speaking a bit more (like 30 minutes), even my speaking voice gets raspy and starts to vanish. It's a problem not only with my friends but also since my studies require quite a lot of talking. I study several foreign languages.
When I get excited, surprised or irritated my voice rises like an octave. My family says that's about my natural voice I should speak with but I am not able to speak like that - it takes so much effort and feels weird. This saddens me and I'm afraid I can never sing again. I'm not trying to be a singer but I wish I could find and use my singing voice again - just for me, for fun - I used to sing a lot and I loved it. Also it would be nice to talk freely without damaging the voice.
I don't know what to do...should I find a vocal coach or is it too late to fix this - or is the damage permanent already? I'm 26 now.
If someone read all that - thank you. If you have any thoughts or tips, I'd appreciate a comment a lot!

I just found this out at 29 because I started seeing a vocal coach for a new job. It is not too late but you will definitely need a professional to work one on one with you and show you when you are using the wrong muscles or adding tension on your voice. It also takes a ton of practice to feel comfortable using your "new" voice, because while it has no strain it also requires more volume and can be hard to accept if you still have self conscious feelings about having a high voice. I wish you the best of luck and don't lose hope on the idea of enjoying your voice and singing along to life.

Totally agree with what you're saying. I'm a basso profundo and it's quite draining on the chords trying to speak in that low voice for 14 hours a day. I used to like it but it's not economical! I've trained myself through the last few months to find my natural spoken pitch and it's changed my narration, storytelling, and just everyday communication! It's gone from inaudible and monotonous to melodic and full of energy. Thanks for the content. Looking forward to more!

I'm a 5'8'' woman who is fairly non-feminine, am constantly tired, and I'm pretty sensitive to high pitched noises so I always speak lower than my normal pitch, I just never really thought about it until I heard recordings of my own voice and it sounded a lot different than what I'm used to. I'm always losing my voice despite talking in a quiet tone. This has made me realize I really just need to embrace my higher pitched voice. It's just so weird, I always thought of myself as an alto since I'm tall and I've got rbf and a very laid back personality, yet I have the voice of a bubbly young teenager. For reference, my natural humming tone was about 2 full steps higher than the humming in the video coming from a mezo soprano.

I'm a skinny guy with a shockingly deep voice. People have commented how they didn't expect it from me. Low E, Bass 2. All that. I always think people can hear me if I speak clearly, and also I've been afraid to scare kids since I've worked at a store lately, I like making people feel comfortable with me since I'm a listener, not a speaker. I wan to make permanent changes in my habit and give myself permissions to project properly. I've also had moments where my throat hurts because it can vibrate really harshly. This was very enlightening for that self permission. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart.

As for eggs, I do love eating an egg for breakfast. I've been following the dispute over good vs bad for a while. From a singing standpoint, my understanding is that since it is a "wet" protein it is considered a somewhat good source of protein in terms of hydration, however, I think the debate on eggs and cholesterol is more important. The latest research I heard on the news is that we should eat eggs in moderation because of the cholesterol in the yolk. Is this a debate you have been following?

I have two different voices. One is my inner high pitch voice, which before I was afraid to sing or speak off, and another, that is a normal mixture of voices which is a bit high too.... The main thing is that Idk what to sing with, when it comes to normal flow of notes....

Hi blueshoter 234, Thanks for your question :) First off, it is awesome that you have started to learn how to sing! As a start, I recommend that you focus on getting your voice resonant and connected to your breath support. This makes your voice agile and allows you to create the sounds you want. Here are two videos to start off with.
This focuses on getting your sounds out of your body (resonant): th-cam.com/video/0yKMbRiOwsw/w-d-xo.html
This connects your voice with your air (Breath support): th-cam.com/video/fwNPp-RS4IY/w-d-xo.html
I hope this helps. I wish you happy singing :)

I'm still not sure about my "natural" pitch... :D All I know is, I used to have a tendency to speak with poor support and a lot of tension, and never really managed to sort that out - until I started looking into bel canto just a few months ago. Relearning everything from scratch, and it's a complete transformation, with results I could never have imagined. Everyone should learn proper vocal technique! \o/

I'm a 17 year old boy. I'm having a vocal difficulty since the last 4 months. I noticed that I always speak in a very low pitch. I used to sing but now I can't because now my voice isn’t as normal as it should be. I can't speak in my chest voice. So I decided to stop speaking for a week to rest my voice. And then I will try the exercises given by you.
Please let me know if it’s alright and suggest me of what I should do.

I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but I do feel it seems easier and less effort to speak like that during those time. (During daytime, my voice will raise back to higher pitch, and I feel throat hurting easily) ....really confused of my own voice.

My natural pitch for humming seems to be a B note but I question whether it depends completely on anatomy as that note also happens to be the first note ascending the chromatic scale whose Shepard tone sounds lower than the pitch that they form a tritone with, (meanwhile making the B flat Shepard tone the last one in the ascending chromatic sequence to sound like the higher pitch in its own tritone pair) and studies seem to implicate perception of the tritone paradox to depend on what language/accent/dialect one grew up hearing meaning different languages/accents/dialects have different natural pitches.
(The fact that it’s a B pitch is actually very strange as I was brought up in Southern California where the perception of the Shepard tones in the tritone paradox is the complete opposite; it means that I somehow took after my dad’s British side of the family instead since Southern Brits perceive the Shepard tones that way)

Ever since I was a kid I would speak higher than my actual pitch, and overall change my voice to make it way higher than it actually is. that passed on to my teen years and now I’m struggling to find what my voice actually sounds like, because when I do speak naturally it sounds very strange and hoarse. I want to start speaking in my normal tone but my parents have always heard me speak with the fake pitch, so I’m not sure exactly what to do about it.
