My mom was a concert pianist and saw Rachmaninoff in concert in Denver back in the day. I saw Eric Carmen with the Raspberries in the 70's. She passed recently, I didn't know the connection till now, very special!
Prayers to you and your family concerning the loss of your mom. Mom's can't be replaced. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you. She lived to be 99 years old a good long life, I got to spend a lot of time with her. We would just drive around for a couple hours a day listening to classical music.

Eric Carnen, Barry Manilow, Jeff Lynne and many others of the 70s pop rock era introduced this gorgeous, beautiful music in their interpretations. Growing up in the 70s and hearing these movements in pop songs was a blessing. And adding interesting lyrics and additional melodies to these themes not only is perfectly acceptable, but tributes to the power of this music
I can't help but scoff at people who bust Eric's chops for "stealing" Rachmaninoff's #2 Opus 18. Hell, "Full Moon and Empty Arms" was popularized way back when by Buddy Kaye and Ted Mossman, boldly "lifting" the main melody to the third movement, apparently without as much criticism aimed at Eric...whose 7+ minute rendition showcased his considerable classical piano chops.
This song uses the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, a Russian composer) His Concerto No. 2.

Eric Carmen's/Celine Dion's "All by Myself" was taken from the 2nd movement, Adagio sostenuto - Piu animato, of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 Op. 18, which this is.

I tried to play this song just from hearing. Quickly noticed the sensitive harmonies weren't as simple as usual - and failed. Believed Eric Carmen to be a great composer. Now Internet tells me this is Rachmaninoff - cool!

Lang Lang is tremendous!!! I have Rachmaninov's Concerto by at least ten (10) great Panistas, including Rachmaninov himself! (Lang Land included of course) A shame Horowitz never recorded it, they were both (Rachmaninov & Horowitz) close friends, Rachmaninov loved to listen to Horowitz. Rachmaninov loved Jazz, he would go to the Jazz Clubs in NYC to listen to Art Tatum and others.

They are exceptionally beautiful: I recommend a recording of Elizabeth Soderstrom, accompanied by Ashkenazy…..you won’t be disappointed! They met over several years to record them, whenever they were both in London.❤

Same here! Eric was/is soooo talented! I've been a fan since the 70s .... A few years ago I heard Rachmaninoff's music and realized Eric had used parts of it (that he had learned during his classical piano training) on various songs. Especially All by Myself! I credit him for my renewed love of classical music! Especially Rachmaninoff.!

How I wish Eric Carmen himself had performed Rachmaninovs 2. piano concerto with some brilliant worldfamous symphony orchestra such as The Berliner Philharmonics and had it recorded on video of course for all his fans world wide to keep.
He and the orchestra could even have toured the world and sold out every seat in even the biggest concert halls to delighted and grateful fans.
Wouldn’t that have been a true tressure.

Sergei wrote the piano 🎹 concerto while Eric wrote the song Lyrics.
Both MEN had been ostracized by friends, family and fans for being "Jewish." That in itself would be a lonely journey to travel.I believe that is exactly what Eric Carmen's song lyrics to "All By Myself" were intimately about.

Lo que pasa es que es un homenaje recreado por Eric Carmen(él hizo ese homenaje recreado para recordar así a grandes compositores como mozart vivaldi entre otros de la época antigua ) y esa es su manera de interpretarlos no lo malentiendan.
Totalmente de acuerdo pero a las almas impuras les encanta el morbo.
