As someone who witnessed their rise and fall, you have no idea how my heart aches for them :(
They were the REAL all rounder group and not the way it's used today to praise any group because they truly had top tier vocalists, top tier rappers and top tier dancers. 2012 was the year where EVERYONE was debuting, so many groups coming out every minute but they managed to stand out so much that they were nominees for rookie of the year. they had huge international fandom and a growing korean fandom. if only they weren't under that shit of an agency, they could've been sooooo much bigger

    • @yukinawa_
      @yukinawa_ ปีที่แล้ว +61

They really were genuinely top tier in everything (vocals, rap, dance), no? 🔥 In Peak Time, Jongup mentioned that the whole group was supposed to join the program and I was like if that pushed through, they would've been like some sort of cheat code 😂 There was no way they wouldn't have blown the competition away with how talented they are.

Every time someone new reacts to B.A.P. I say the same thing. They had the potential to become what BTS is today if their company didn't majorly screw them over. They wrote their own stuff, talked about societal issues, had the major talent, great group synergy. It's such a shame. I got into BTS because I was already into B.A.P. when BTS debuted and BTS reminded me of them as rookies. It's crazy. B.A.P. was my first concert too. Back when groups wouldn't come to Chicago yet, they'd do Merrilville, Indiana b/c it was cheaper there but it was still close to Chicago. Good times.

2012 was fucking crazy, people were all sure either B.A.P or EXO would grab the Best Rookie award. That's how amazing they were.
During the promotion of Warrior, they handed out whistles for the fans, so instead of a fanchant they would whistle during the chorus, and it was epic! They went so hard for the dance break once they broke the Inkigayo stage during a prerecording.

Ok, Skydive takes more than one watch, and without captions if you want to understand the storyline. They're hitmen, for starters. As for the letters, the first one in invisible ink says something like "go in the alley," the second says "kill the informant", and the third says "kill Himchan."
When Daehyun wakes up after getting drunk and finds another photo in his hand, he realizes only one of his gang members could have put it there. He realizes he can't trust any of them. During the flashbacks he's thinking about weird things they've each done that might be clues; Yongguk burning hits and the chemical used for making invisible ink. Zelo and Youngjae pocketing money. Jongup being trigger happy and challenging Himchan's authority.
(the chemical for the invisible ink has a scent, so that's why we see Daehyun smelling things-to check for messages)

Omg BAP !!! It's one of those groups where "you had to be there" !!! To give a little bit of context, they are Kpop monsters. They were the ones who got the Rookie Award in 2012 against EXO (!!!), BTOB, Nu'est, Vixx.... They started their career very strongly with Warrior (they literally broke the scene of Mcountdown because they danced too hard), and ever since then they gained an enormous notoriety in Korea and abroad - they toured all over the world in 2013 and 2014 and sold out each concert in the US and in Europe. They were one of the first kpop groups to sing songs with very impactful lyrics, sometimes hard-hitting criticism against society (a genre that BTS also adopted at their debut) which is Yongguk's heavy influence on the group's image, as he was a well-known underground rapper pre-debut. Unfortunately, they were mistreated very badly by their agency and we fans had no idea about it. It was such a shock for the entire kpop community, we all went crazy on twitter back then. BAP had to halt their activities when they were at the top of their fame in 2014, just two years after their debut : a few years later when they won the lawsuits it became really hard for them to gain their fame back, especially since their absence permitted other groups with similar concepts to take their place. Overall, B.A.P has won 29 awards out of 38 nominations, including three MTV Europe Music Awards, two Japan Gold Disc Awards, three Gaon Chart Music Awards, and eight So-Loved Awards.
If TS entertainment hadn't mistreated them they would have been bigger than BTS is today I am convinced.
Every album is a gem, their B-sides are even better than their main songs but I would recommend First sensibility and Noir as the albums to check out !

  • @loveontopfan3100
    @loveontopfan3100 ปีที่แล้ว +138

    Best.Absolute.Perfect.
BAP is one of the coldest, baddest groups to ever to come out of kpop. Their debut was the equivalent of someone dropping a nuclear bomb onto a quiet, residential area and I'm not joking. I was there. The ENTIRE INDUSTRY was so shook by their talent and the power of their music. They were one of the first kpop groups to gain traction with international fans in the West - and this was before social media took off.
The combo of their rappers, Leader Yongguk and Zelo, are still legendary. They are still regarded as one of the best and most revered rap duos of the genres. And they were a HUGE influence on Monsta X, a group who followed their prototype and example.
B.A.P is the first Kpop group that I ever fell head over heels in love with. The talent and music from this group was AMAZING and is a great legacy of what kpop has to offer to those with open hearts to receive it. They are also a heart-breaking example of what happens when a company driven by greed could destroy a group, which is what happened here.
Their company, T.S. Entertainment, basically made them work non-stop for 3 years without paying them, ruining their health and putting them on the brink of collapse. They sued the company and had to take a year and half hiatus to resolve the lawsuit. Once they came back, it was not the same. Thye had a couple of more releases before they disbanded. For those of us who loved them, it was devastating because they were contemporaries of BTS and like them, were only getting bigger in the West.
Anyway, they have SO MUCH great music! I would recommend their songs Voicemail, Coma, I Remember, Excuse Me, Pray, Blind, No Mercy, Wake Me Up, Feel So Good, Save Me, Body & Soul, What the Hell and Kingdom.
For albums listens, I would highly recommend their Carnival and Noir albums.
Also, fun fact: The Main Vocalist for B.A.P whose name is Daehyun says that Ateez are a really cool young group that reminds him a lot of B.A.P

I feel like even if you weren’t a stan of BAP, you still KNEW every one of their title tracks because of how good they were right out the gate! 🥹 it was honestly SO heartbreaking when the news of their disbandment came out due to their company ruining their (and Secret, the girl group TS ent had) management and not to mention Himchan’s S.A conviction. I’m so glad you did happen to fall for Jongup and it’s never too late to love the legacy BAP left for us! ❤

Absolutely love that Jongup is introducing people to B.A.P by being on Peak Time. You definitely started with the most powerful and strong songs/mvs they have. If you want to look into them more I would recommend "That's my jam" which is a really fun and catchy song, "Feel so good" which is a more cute and feel good song, "Wake me up" which is about mental health and it was their first cb after Yongguk's hiatus back then. Last but not least "Honeymoon" which is a really gorgeous and a more calm song. I really hope you look into them a bit more. If their entertainment wouldn't have been so horrible and the lawsuit wouldn't have happened, B.A.P would definitely be one of the biggest groups today.

B.A.P was my first Kpop Group alongside EXO since I started stanning way back 2012 and I remember these two groups were going head to head on these awards almost all the time. LMAO. Thank you for Jongup for bringing you here! 😩😩
It's so nice to hear Zelo's iconicccccc LTE rap again ohmygosh.
** I'm typing this while watching so I'm editing my comment a lot but if you want to get into more of their stuff, I definitely recommend "Badman", "Young, Wild & Free", "1004" and "Wake Me Up" along a lot of stuff!

I love B.A.P. so much their company did them so terribly dirty it was tragic. The leader, Bang Yongguk, is an incredible storyteller and songwriter. I can't remember if you have checked him out before but his underground solo work from after he left the idol industry is literally a masterclass in baring your soul.

  • @XtineGrl90

For me B.A.P. was and still is my ult and comfort group. They came into my life where I was starting undergrad and felt lost and they gave me so much comfort before I found Monsta X. They will always have a special place in my heart and marked a period of my life that I think I needed them the most. And even before their debut when YongGuk (honestly my very first ult) was featured on Jieun's solo, his solo track, and his unit with Zelo all just cemented for me that they were THE group for me. They really marked a moment in my music and stan history of what type of music resonates and catches my soul - while 2PM started that spark, B.A.P. turned it into a giant bonfire. The fact that JongUp stated that the 5 of them were discussing about doing the show together just ripped my heart all over again - and after another group had auditioned with their song too And I still have their songs on repeat as they will forever be iconic and bops!
AND the fact that Korean articles STILL mention them when the topic of "which older group would've thrived today" or "which older group would have had success if they debuted today" means that they STILL have a hold on the kpop fandoms. They grew so much in popularity at a time where their sound would not have easily been accepted and was one of the groups that opened the door for more groups to have that sound. They had broken a STAGE and had whistles banned because the whistle was an integral part of their fan chants lol
And yeah we Baby's don't talk about HIM anymore 🛑

    Explaining Skydive:
The start they are playing poker (remember this): (the time tags are for the original music video)
Basically there is a group (B.A.P) and they kill for a living. Himchan is the leader it seems. Daehyun has a girl/friend/sister (at the bar together). She goes off to the bathroom. Daehyun is waiting for her, when he come back to the table he sees a folder with pictures of her abused. He smells the piece of paper (2:11) and spills water on it, there's a hidden message. Someone had taken her. He needs to find her within a given time frame I believe. It tells him to meet him outside at a specific adress, that's where "X" shows up, and hands him the pics of the girl as well as a box with her finger in it (2:45), her hand is mutilated. :( (this is also a hint at who X is) (notice anyone with a tattoo on his hand?)
He was told to kill the informant on the message, he follows Himchan and kills the man in the car.
Daehyun is trying to figure out who took her and save her. He freaks out and starts drinking cause he's stressed that he doesn't have a clue on where to start. Himchan tries to snap him out of it. Daehyun wakes up (after the club) on the sofa, with a picture of the girl. This is when he realizes that their is someone IN THE GROUP took her aka X, since no one else was in the room besides the members, confirmed there is a betrayer. (this is the part where he stands and looks at each member and the camera is circling him) (4:25)
at the balcony scene, daehyun is chosing who he thinks is X, each member is a bit suspicous. like Youngjae stole some money that they got as a team (5:07) when they killed the guys at the start, Youngguk was buring something, for JongUp Daehyun remembered how JongUp seems to enjoy killing (5:13),
They have another meeting and it's to Kill a head mafia guy, its a big plan and they call it D-Day Daehyun gets the paper and notices it has the same scent as the first letter (5:48). Daehyun goes to the sink and pours water on it, sure enough it has a message, the message tells him to Kill Himchan. Therefore HImchan is not X.
Daehyun follows Channie down the alley, however Himchan knows that Daehyun is following, he takes away his guns and backs away (with a sad expression it seems) Daehyun breaks down, because he failed his mission. He gets a message with the correct address and starts running. He see's her hand first near the garbage bags (7:07) finds her body, he gets another message and "it says Game Over" meanwhile
This is the best part of the video. The climax of the song is hitting at (6:40) You see JongUp in a weird position(6:48) as if he's covering his laughter. Do you know why he gets the dance break (other than he's the best dancer of bap)? Look at his expression while he's dancing at (6:52), it's like he won. The dance was showing his psychotic side, PEER GENIUS. He won the "game". He is X, this was a big clue, but not many people saw it yet till later.
Daehyun shows up to the planned Dday mission to find X of the group, but there are SWAT teams instead who are circling the other group members. Bad ass things happen. Like Himchan's true side shows that he wanted to help Daehyun all along. They battle, and the rest is obvious. JongUp was the mastermind he was the one who killed Daehyun's girl. He called the SWAT to get rid of everyone. He is X. Near the end you see JongUp with the very same Mafia leader they were originally going to kill, He is X.
At the end they show them playing poker, and Himchan (was about to win) however JongUp had an Ace up his sleeve (two actually). Im assuming the point is sometimes the bad guys do win, trust is important, and pretty much about a psychopath using Daehyun for his "game", which is all referenced back to the game of poker, where you have to play games with people’s heads to win.

B.A.P is definitely one of the most underrated and unfortunate band in the Kpop industry. I remembered the time when I came to their concert for fun and ended up chasing them to the second concert because I was so hyped and amazed by their talents and their genuine personalities. After TVXQ, B.A.P was the second band that shocked me when I heard them live.
I am glad Jongup is on Peak Time and doing well (please keep him, he is a shy sweetheart full of talent) and B.A.P's music is getting known. Please also look at the lyrics in some songs that they composed themselves towards the 2016-2018 era.

they made an alternate ending to one shot knowing people would be mad 😂 so it really depends on what ending you prefer. also for skydive, there was a buildup of hints to guess who the traitor was so the mv was to finally show us and tell us the story.
also if you want softer or less aggressive songs (with MVs), there's Rain Sound, Wake Me Up (the leader's comeback after taking a mental health hiatus), 1004, That's My Jam, and Feel So Good! plus No Mercy, which a group covered on Peak Time.
But its so nice seeing the positive attention the members are getting recently, especially Jongup on Peak Time. all the new fans are making me feel the excitement I felt back at the beginning of their career 😭 my heart hurts because of what they went through but they deserve so much

I'm now a subscriber two minutes in. I love Jongup so much. He's so soft off stage and badass onstage. I loved BAP before Peaktime and my bias was Yongguk, but Jongup bias wrecked me. Especially in Skydive era. During the performance of Good Boy Gone Bad, he totally gave off Skydive era energy.
Jongup has such a unique dance style that it's easy to spot him dancing from a distance with his face covered.
TS treated them so badly and made them perform sick and injured all the time and didn't pay them. They just... sucked.
I will always support the 5 of them individually. Babyz don't talk about H*****n anymore. BAP may be disbanded, but they're 5 as a group. Yongguk, Daehyun, Youngjae, Jongup, and Zelo. That other one doesn't exist to us anymore.

Edit: You yelling, "violence is not the answer" during One Shot is hilarious because thats basically Yongguk's point

Miss Catlin I'm totally enjoying your reactions to B.A.P I've been a fan of theirs since their debut and have most of their albums. It makes me so that the younger generation is bringing them back. All you heard about TS Entertainment is true but worse. Jong Up did most of the choreography for their videos. I'm 55 now and still totally love these men. Thank you so much for bringing them back ❤

So happy BAP is gaining attention once again because of Jongup. Well they deserve it and their music needs to be heard more.
Btw, enjoyed your reactions A LOT! Every Baby be like (specially in Skydive and One Shot), yeah girl, let me tell you about BAP and their long ass mv's. Hahahaha yeah the fandom doesn't trust them either when it comes to those types of mv's. You never know who the traitor will be next!
These mv's basically sum up BAP's sound.
Also that intro song in One Shot is called Punch, you gotta checkout their 'Live in Tokyo' perf of that, and nope Daehyun (the one doing the highnotes) does not chill in that song. By the end of the song you'll end up with all you hairs pulled out.
IMPORTANT NOTE: WATCH THEIR LIVE PERFORMANCES, VOCALS ARE WAY BETTER THAN THE MV's
Also thank you so much for taking time to checkout BAP and their songs. There's a lot more to go and girl, you won't be disappointed with any of it. Highly recommend their songs No Mercy (one of the teams in Peak Time did their ver of that song for their intro in ep 1 😊), 1004 (this is where Jongup got his 'Moon Angel' nickname), Badman (very strong and unique song, mv shot in Chicago) and Young Wild and Free (their comeback song after the hiatus and lawsuit).

As an all time B.A.P fan (Baby) since One Shot era, I absolutely adoooored your reactions 😭♥️ You were not ready for that and gave amazing reactions, I almost cried from how nostalgic that made me. Also your reaction for the double ending is *priceless*, once again it brings me back to that era, we all preferred the "they all die united" ending to the treason one 😂
B.A.P was truly a one-of-a-kind, ahead of their time band. They're my roman empire, not kidding 🥲 it's a "you had to be there" kind of thing, but I still hope new kpop stans keep taking a look into them because they made a difference in the industry and their work is still relevent imo
💚 To conclude this long comment, I have a tiny Jongup trivia: had the chance to be picked for an on-stage event with him at their concert tour in 2017 in Paris and had a small moment with the band on-stage (+ a hi-5 and a group picture afterwards). Let me tell you they were super sweet and funny even after 2 hours of performing, and Jongup was almost even more impressed than me during the event 😭♥️ He couldn't look me in the eye and was just hella shy all throughout the thing, I was confused as to who was the idol there for a moment lmao that was super adorable. After the group picture he took the most time to say goodbye to me as he recognised me from the event, he seems to be a very humble and timid person despite his insane talent and then-fame. ♥️
(btw if another lucky Baby who was picked for the 2017 Babyz Lounge passes by, I'd be thrilled to hear your experience as well!)
Thank you Caitlin for this awesome reaction video ♥️♥️♥️

I'm so happy that BAP hasn't fully been forgotten because we have amazing creators, such as yourself, looking into them even after so many years. Even though they've left their company and are doing solo things, I'm praying for a comeback. I want them to do what Got7 did after they left JYP. I would cry the happiest of tears if they do.
Edit: Ateez's group composition really reminded me of BAP, that's probably why I was so drawn to them. Yongguk = Mingi, Zelo = Hongjoong, Jongup = Yunho, Himchan = Yeosang/Wooyoung (position wise - not personality), Youngjae = Seongwha/San, Daehyun = Jongho. Edit #2: I'm dying every time Caitlan realizes the betrayals XD

Girl you did both Skydive and One Shot in one video! I don't doubt that you're exhausted haha I hope you do check out more of them even if it can't be that consistent. B.A.P are amazing and had such protentional to be HUGE if their company didn't F*** them over so bad. I got to see them live like two months before they disbanded and they are just as good live!

OMG B.A.P!!! I miss them so much. B.A.P and EXO were the top rookie groups of 2012! Both were my fave groups for the longest time! It makes me so happy for you to check them out!
