    1. 0:45 {About Church Discipline} Can you please explain what the Bible says about local churches having a process of “church discipline” and how that should be carried out? Should it be rare, or a regular part of church life? Where should leaders draw the line when deciding if someone made a minor mistake vs. someone needing discipline?
    2. 13:02 {Is Baptism Required?} Why does the Bible sound like baptism is required for salvation in some places (eg. Mark 16: 16)? Does Acts 1:5 answer what KIND of baptism IS required (Holy Spirit baptism)? And what did Jesus mean by “to fulfill righteousness”?
    3. 18:31 {About Tithing & “Prosperity” Teachings} My church says a declaration before tithing. Part of it is: "I am believing Him for advancements, God-ideas, blessings & increases, financial freedom, & breakthroughs." Is this a prosperity church red flag?
    4. 22:00 {Are Murder Mysteries Appropriate for Believers?} I watched your video on Halloween, and I’m wondering what your thoughts are on murder mystery dinner parties (and for that matter, murder mysteries in general). Is it wrong to be entertained by them?
    5. 25:17 {Why does Pastor Mike Love Jesus?} I would love to know, why do you love Jesus?
    6. 26:52 {About Doubt, Truth, & Bias} My friend is doubting his faith and reality because he claims there's no way to discern truth objectively without some sort of bias. How would you answer him?
    7. 31:06 {Can Sons be Punished for Parents’ Sins?} Don't questions like 2 Kings 5: 27, 2 Kings 9:8, and Exodus 12: 29 contradict Ezekiel 18: 20 which says that sons cannot be punished for the sins of their fathers?
    8. 34:44 {Should We Ever Hate People?} Should we hate the evil doer (e.g., those who promote or perform abortion) or should we just keep their salvation in mind? Or can we do both at the same time?
    9. 38:19 {Can the Deceased Send us Signs?} How do you explain to someone that their dead loved one is not sending signs to them, no matter how convincing those signs are?
    10. 40:43 {About Questionable Worship Lyrics} I play guitar at my church. I don’t always agree with the theology couched in some songs. I don’t sing lines I don’t agree with, but I am still on stage. Would love to hear your general thoughts on this!
    11. 43:02 {How to Repent When We’re Not “Feeling” It} How do I repent unto salvation (repent and be saved) when I do not want to? I am asking from the current place of being unsaved.
    12. 45:04 {About the Fear of Eternity} A student recently shared a fear of hers: the idea of eternity, even if in Heaven. I have to admit I struggle with this, as well. Any advice for me, for how I can comfort her from the Bible?
    13. 49:45 {About our Music Choices} Is it OK to listen to old music from former Christians, like Kevin Max or Ray Boltz? Is their music prior to them leaving Christ OK to listen to?
    14. 52:36 {About Adam & Eve / Sin Nature} Were Adam and Eve created WITH a sin nature at their creation? If not, why then did they choose to sin in the first place, all the while God having called His creation good?
    15. 54:44 {About God being our Loving Father} I've been a believer for a very long time, but still struggle with the concept of God as loving Father. Mainly due to my upbringing. How do I overcome this? The doubt is overwhelming.
    16. 57:50 {Clashing Translations?} In 1 Corinthians 7, whom do verses 36-38 address? Some versions add "daughter," implying fathers, but ESV, in using "his betrothed" and "his passions" seem to indicate a groom.
    17. 1:01:44 {How to Witness to an Angry Person} My friend has left Christianity. His family is a bit extreme and aggressive with their faith, and he says they are what pushed him away from his. If I try to talk with him, he gets angry. What can I do?
    18. 1:04:31 {How to Tell if a Sermon is Biblical} How does one recognize if a message is biblically accurate? Oftentimes a message is given with Scripture to back it up. How do you gauge the truthfulness of the message?
    19. 1:06:37 {Wrestling with Matters of Conscience} I’m a family photographer being asked to do sessions involving a same-sex couple with kids. I've done sessions for cohabitating pregnant couples before, but how can I handle this as a Christian?
    20. 1:09:46 {Balancing Work & Family in Life} My job has been taking away too much family time (extreme employee shortage), but I've been there many years and feel the relationships are still a mission field. How can I balance this?

How about sexual abuse from someone on the oversight?
The person abused was disciplined and dropped grom ministry. The abuser was counseled and left in his position.
If he was deposed it would be devastation to the church.

Hey thanks for your ministry! I can never catch a live stream but I've had a question bother me for a while now.
Why did Jesus tell the bandit on the cross _"you will be with me in Paradise"_ instead of Heaven or Kingdom of Heaven? Is it the same, just poor translation or clear distinction?
My father explained it with a wedding analogy. At the banquet you have bride and groom with the wedding party sitting at their own table facing all the invited guests, friends and family. That would be like Jesus, the apostles, Abraham, Moses, etc. Invited guests is the church. Lastly the staff - while technically present, don't get to enjoy the same luxuries. This is where people like the bandit who got saved, more or less, after a lifetime of sin.
Basically God's judgment of a believers actions throughout life and giving each what they have earned. Maybe not the best example but is there any truth to it?

Believing that Jesus promised the robber on the cross a one-way ticket to the kingdom of heaven without him meeting the mandatory requirements for entrance into heaven results in the individual calling Jesus a LIAR. (JOHN 3:5)
Taking Jesus’ earlier statement made to Nicodemus into consideration, Jesus obviously didn’t promise the evil doer/robber entrance into heaven. Paradise is not heaven. Jesus never offered anyone he preached to entrance into paradise.

Mike, I gave my heart to Jesus at a rather young age, & was raised in a Christian home. However, the church we went to never spoke about or emphasized baptism, & I never saw anyone get baptized in our church. Time went by, & my parents told me that baptism wasn’t necessary for salvation (which is true). However, it wasn’t until I started attending a Baptist church & started studying my Bible on a regular basis that I realized that getting baptized was something I needed to do in obedience to Christ. I believe I have been saved all these years, but it seems like my heart is much more drawn to the Lord now. I was 60 when I got baptized, & I made it part of my testimony that this was something I felt convicted by the Holy Spirit to do.

Now we have a little box in our pocket that has millions of sermons, teachings, and the Bible in the form of an audio instantly available almost always.

Concerning Church Discipline, I think it is important to point out that this is not just a matter of fellowship, Paul goes on to say in the next Chapter that those who do the things he listed (as well as some others), and do not repent, will not be saved. They will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
This is why Church discipline is so important. It is a Gospel/Salvation issue.

    • @samgott8689
      @samgott8689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Right, and the removal of fellowship and the barring from the Lord’s Table reflects that. It’s the New Covenant equivalent of being put outside of the camp and away from the Tabernacle. Inasmuch as a person is able to live in unrepentant, gross and willful sin and not respond to exhortation, they demonstrate that they were likely never regenerate to begin with, and should thus be fully cut off from the visible means of Grace, ie, fellowship in a local Church and access to the Lord’s Table until restored. Should they be restored though, they must be fully and completely restored, both by a return to these outer means and in the way other Church members relate to them (see 2 Cor 2:5-11). That is, no “we’ll forgive but never forget”, no “semi-restored pending future behavior”. It is completely inappropriate for any penitent sinner to feel anything less then full assurance of pardon in Christ when participating in the means He has given to communicate it. The Church that fails to properly practice discipline AND restoration ceases to properly function as a Church in a very important way.

We hate the darkness in them. The evil spirit that drives them. But we love them in the sense that we rather see them turn to the light than die in that darkness

I’m a believer that has been listening for a couple years & I thank Mike for his serious study of the scriptures. I wasn’t even all the way through listening to this when I felt compelled to comment. First, Mike’s answer on the fear of heaven question, has me so excited for things to come. Also wanted to add to the question on God the Father issue when our earthly fathers have caused trauma. I never blamed God for the trauma, however, I still have to work through trusting HIM. When you can’t trust those that are supposed to be taking care of you & you learn to only trust yourself & lookout for yourself, it takes much disciple, time & correcting of thoughts & behavior. I appreciate Mike’s answer about rebuking those wrong thoughts & apologizing to God. It really is a big part of healing & right thinking. This episode is stellar. Thank you to those asking the questions as well.

Re #1. I used to attend a tiny church in the covered patio of the house across the street. We were joined by an ex-catholic who tried to take over. Between singing and the sermon just before the offering everyone had a chance to speak mostly a few sentences about how they had been blessed. The ex-catholic gave long speaches about the necessity of tithing. The pastor disagreed about the amount of giving being required. After warning him at least three times about obedience one week the pastor said that his sermon would be short because of tine constraints. The ex-catholic passed out pamphlets then preached for longer than the sermon ended up being. The pastor kicked him out then and there. He was told he could come back when he changed his attitude and behavior.

@@claudiapoe5292 You misunderstood what I wrote completely. There was no priest. The man was at most a deacon. Hecwas trying to uusurp the authority of the pastor. He tried to take over and was repeatedly reprimanded.
There is no faith vs works issue. Faith saves. Works are the result of faith.
Arguing with the pastor and disrupting a service are unacceptable. The pastor had no choice. Even the man's wife was relieved to see the disruptive behavior ended. Yes she did leave with her husband.

@@markhorton3994 I agree arguing with the pastor is unacceptable. I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Do you have any idea why he was no longer Catholic? In many church churches, there are people who want to be the center of attention. They find ways to insert themselves into leadership positions unasked. It takes a lot of skill to dissuade them. I have seen those who sow bad seed cause divisiveness. I know that there is no work that will get you saved. My thought was that inclusion in some form may lead to a greater understanding of Christianity and salvation. A small church can be disrupted easier by a single person. In a larger church, a church member might have been able to subtly guide him.

The tithe is how you set aside the financial resources to care for the poor. It is a huge failing of conservative churches and conservatives in general. Jesus is getting real tired of being told to pull himself up by his bootstraps.

    • @markhorton3994
      @markhorton3994 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@bkucenski The tithe in the Old Testament was a fixed 10% of first fruits to support the levites, priests and the temple. That tithe no longer exists.
We are told to give to the poor of our free will acording to our ability. For someone with more than they need 10% may be way too low. For someone of limited means 10% might require choosing between eating and paying the rent.
If you choose to reuse the word tithe for a different meaning I can't stop you.

    • @bkucenski
      @bkucenski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@markhorton3994 False. The Heave Offering was 10% of the tithe for the Levites. The rest was for the people who needed it. It went into the storehouse.
If you haven't the means or the heart to give, then maybe you should think about why that is and what you can do about it.
God never gave a fixed amount to give. No one was obligated to only give 10%. And if you want to smugly argue that you don't have to, you should consider where that attitude is coming from. I used to think like that. Then I started realizing how blessed I was and now it's the easiest thing in the world to set aside 10% of my income into an ACORNS account. I'm very excited for what that has enabled me to do this holiday season.

Our church just enacted discipline and removed someone from the body. This was the first time I have ever been involved in a church that has done this. I can tell you it is sad, but the right thing to do. Our body was noticeably healthier in a spiritual sense and the congregation came away with a greater sense of unity. It left the feeling that we are following the right path, choosing Christ over the world and convicted to make sure we all are doing our part to not be entangled in sin. It was sad, and still is, but in the end a very positive thing for our church.

When I was struggling with solipsism, the thing that helped me get out of it was a show I watched about being trapped in virtual reality. The main theme the show tackled was that if you can't tell the difference between the dream and reality then you might as well accept the dream to be reality. And it becomes really easy to accept when you understand that we are primarily motivated by pain and pleasure. It's like Rene Descartes did - he started with first principles and then put all the apples back in the basket. And one of the things I know to be objectively true is the reality of pain and pleasure. My Granddad even made a joke that he would punch me if I wanted to know if I existed. And ever since then I've lived by the quote "pinch me so I can know if I'm dreaming".

  • @alexeypolishchuk8590
    @alexeypolishchuk8590 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi @Mikewinger, with all the respect, regarding to the second question, I didn’t find Peter saying that words of Cornelius and his House hold were “…they are saved like us”…, but what it says : «While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.»
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:44-48‬ ‭NIV‬‬
So as for me, it would be more proper, if you said, that it’s not as clear, if Peter did really mean, That people were saved without being baptized, but It says that they have got The Holy Spirit (what in another way might also mean that they were marked to be baptized in water and to be saved).
if you go through this topic in a New Testament carefully, which I believe you did, you could find only this, who were saved without being baptized in water, is the thief who were resurrected by Jesus side, and at the same time, it’s seems to me, he died at the time of Old Testament. Anyways, it’s seems to be as an exception.
Other ways, Jesus wouldn’t being teaching in John 3, of baptism as birth of water and the spirit(«Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.»
    ‭‭John‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬)
And all the rest cases of saved, were baptized in the water and the spirit, and chronology most the times same as in Acts 2:39 («Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.»
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38‬ ‭NIV‬‬)
The process of it seems to be clear and consequent, as hearing the message, believing, accepting the way, through proclaiming “Jesus is the Lord”, baptizing in the water (meaning dying for them selves and from that moment rising up for new life in The Christ), obtaining forgiveness of the sins, then receiving the Holly Spirit.
The eunuch, Paul, disciples of John the Baptist, Apollos, Corinthians (Crisp, Gay, Cholyases house hold, the chief of the prison.
Why would they do so, if baptism in the water doesn’t mean the way to salvation, if just believing without it’s revealing is enough.
    But Paul says in Romans:
«Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.»
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:3-5‬ ‭NIV‬‬
And about the case Of Cornelius
«Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.»
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:34-35‬ ‭NIV‬‬
«The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.” Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?” When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”»
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭11:1-4, 15-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I interpreted Question 15 a little differently. God's love is often described in a familial or parental way, especially the loving you before you loved Him concept, and I feel my upbringing (emotionally abusive parents) makes it hard for me to understand the depth/intensity of such descriptions. It's kind of hard to describe, it's like the concept of such a love has little to no meaning for me because I never "learned" it or was shown it (or at least, this is how it feels). Sometimes with my siblings I feel a sort of protective, sacrificial love for them (I'm an older sister) but largely it feels like I'm failing to understand God's love. A lot of descriptions of God's love feel like empty words to me. Which is not how I'd like it to be, but it is how it feels.
That's the angle I thought the question 15 person was coming from, rather than the idea that they're projecting the pain someone else has caused onto God which is how I think Mike interpreted it.

I have seen a lot of women distrust God because of the actions of men in their lives. Try looking at it this way. If you could have the perfect parent, what would that parent be like? Would they always be there? Would they love you no matter what? Would they give anything to save your life? Would they understand you when don’t understand yourself? Do they know why you do the things you do and forgive you when you fail? Will they welcome you home when you have turned away? Do they want what is best for you even if it means that they will sacrifice for you? No human being can measure up to this. All parents are fallible, even those who stick around and try to do what is right. We can never base our God on human factors. They don’t exist in his kingdom. Erase the idea that God is like any father, mother, pastor, teacher, etc. There is no comparison. For me, God is the ultimate parent, the supreme counselor, the perfect judge, the best friend and my savior. Who can measure up to that? No one. Just believe that he is all of this and he will be all of these things for you.

Some of the law was the code of justice of the Israelite theocracy and never applied to a gentile like me. The sacrificial law was replaced by Jesus's once for all sacrifice of Himself. Jesus Himself abrogated the dietary law.
The moral law always has and always will apply. Jesus even clarified it making it stronger.

In my experience, the doubting reality and confronting bias comes from looking at someone else who is unwavering or unwilling to change. Seeing someone like that who differs from you makes one wonder, “how can they think that? do they really believe it?”, which leads to “If they so strongly believe they have truth, even when I think they are wrong, do I myself really have a grasp of the truth? What if I am like them and just unwavering in some bias, rather than the actual truth?” Naturally this leads one to question what truth is and if it even exists. But I think this is one of the greatest proofs for God to the intellectual; our consciousness and morality. Obviously these things are debated, but if you make as God asks and ask Him to reveal the truth, He will. Yes not all Christians agree, but not all Christians have a currently-strong relationship with the Father. I laid awake for night questioning my existence and its worth... and really, all I can say is that God persued me. Often when we are not satisfied with the answer, as most of us are, there is something He wants us to let go of first. For me it was first my leaning on my understanding. Then it was my pride, of which He is continuing to show me how pride is keeping me from total surrender. With Christianity, you must believe to see, not the other wat around, and by philosophy or the world, there is no such thing as objectivity. Only with God is there objective truth and objective evil, as well as objective unclarities, such as the secrets of the universe or consciousness-based sin: things that onlg can be revealed personally if you go to Him in Spirit and Truth to ask!!

On baptism, I go to a Church of Christ that historically would say that baptism is required for salvation. However I disagree that it is, based on scripture as mike pointed out. I see it like a ceremony for a wedding. You don’t need to have a ceremony to technically be married but it would seem a bit weird to me to get married without one. Baptism is like the ceremony of a wedding where you publicly profess your love and commitment to each other as you would for Christ in baptism. Its symbolically showing your commitment

1:04:31 In addition to what Mike said I belive having a firm grasp on the Gospel is also key to discernment. Why? Because if their teaching conflicts with or undermines the Gospel (God's message throughout the Bible) then scripture is being manipulated. Hope that helps.
Asking yourself, well, what is the Gospel? Here you go, the Gospel in 4 points:
    1. God, infinite, eternal, triune in nature, and Holy, created everything, including man. He made it all good. He is perfect in every way. He made man for His good pleasure and to worship God.
    2. God chose to make man, and withheld no good thing from man. He made man rulers over the earth, second only to Him. Man rebelled against God and in doing so fell into "Sin state" and took all creation with him, including all of future humans, which is why we see death, sin and corruption all around us. God's just sentence for man's rebellion and sin is an eternity in hell as they sinned against an eternal and Holy God. Man goes to hell for SIN, not for believing the wrong thing. The Bible says we all sin and there are none righteous. We are not able to respond to God morally and we all deserve hell for our sins (lying, coveting, hating, stealing, lusting, all the 10 commandments).
    3. But God being gracious and abundant in mercy decided to inact a rescue plan, even though He didn't have to. God the Father, sent God the Son, Jesus Christ who was 100% man 100% God, to live the life we as humans should have lived but didn't. Jesus perfectly fulfilled God perfect/holy moral/standard and then died on the cross and suffered the Wrath of God we should should suffered in hell. Then 3 days later He rose bodily from the dead proving He was who He said He was, and that He conquered sin and the grave on behalf of all those who would repent and trust in His finished work on the cross. Jesus essentially paid a fine we could never pay to God.
    4. So now all we have to do is respond: Repent and trust in Jesus' finished work on the cross, trusting He fully paid our debt, and when we do that, the Holy Spirit will fill us and make us new and righteous before God. We belong to Him and can trust Him no matter what happens in our lives and come to Him boldly as His precious children trusting in His perfect and sacrificial love for us.

Perhaps we are dealing with a new generation in the Church the is a little too "woke". 😎

About #2: several places the Bible says "Baptism for the forgiveness of sin" To me it is clear that Baptism does save. But faith saving is even clearer without being baptized.
Lutheran Satire has a video called "what about the theif on the cross" or something close. It explains this interpretation clearly and humorously. The title hints at the content.

Let us believers all agree God is sovereign in all situations. Did the thief on the cross had the opportunity for water baptism? Probably not, and he had no rights to request the Roman soldiers for it.

@@andywong9847 There are several examples in the Bible of people who were saved without or before being baptized. The thief on the cross is one of them.
It seems clear to me that Baptism does forgive sins. It is the usual way to be born again. But many people cannot be baptized or die before they are baptized, the classical example is someone who dies on the way to be baptized. If they believe they are saved.
The video I mentioned in my first comment explains it better than I can.

Pastor I really wanted you to possibly do a biblical teaching on deliverance and deliverance ministries. Pastor Isaiah Salvador is a pastor I listen to along with yourself and old sermons from John Maxwell and Charles Stanley. You and Isaiah are in my household 1-3x a day everyday 7 days a week. I wanted your honest feedback on him. I trust your judgment and discernment. Hope you see my comment 🙏🙏🙏

Pastor, I feel like our S.B congregation is being chastised from the pulpit by one of the elders for #1 everyone not tithing, #2 for only 60% of the congregation for not taking part and helping in church activities for example outreaches to the community, I have taken part in both, every time he come to the pulpit I think to myself, here comes another rebuke, it does not feel good, is this me feeling resentment ? I have really struggled with this and am asking the Lord to help me to not feel this way

Hey Mike! I couldnt be here on Fridays to ask you questions but i do have one for you. I was replying to a comment saying "abortion" in a post about things that are not in the Bible but people think they are and somebody quoted Exodus 21:22-23, that people would be fined if they were fighting and accidentally hit a pregnant woman and her child came out prematurely (or die), they'd only be fined but if there were serious injuries then they'd be punished according to what they've caused (an eye for an eye, a life for a life). That comment said if a fetus was a human and had life, why weren't the offenders killed if they accidentally kill the baby but only were if they killed the mother? How do i answer to that and how should i understand that part of Exodus?

Mike, I really dig your ministry. Its a wonderful thing and it really helps me to learn about God.
However, I do not understand why baptism is held as a necessity of obedience for the believer. I would love to see an examination of that in the future. I have not been able to find any instance in which Christ tells people to be baptized with water outside of instances in which he is referring to Jewish custom.
Additionally, in regards to your comments about Jesus saying "go forward and baptize," doesn't this contradict Paul's statement "I have come not to baptize with water but to preach the gospel?"

@Lindsay Hamel I'm not sure how to take your comment. I would really love more feedback!
Are you saying that we need to do it because he did? He also got arrested and executed. He walked directly into deadly storms. He went into a corrupt temple and committed massive acts of property destruction. He also didn't eat shellfish, he observed all of the old testament customs.

I am referring to Episode 55 on church discipline. You refer to Matthew 18 (you should also reference Deut 19) but you fail to address the issue when one is accused by one person without proof and the person accused is innocent. This happened to me years ago. I have since joined another church and my ministry is more flourishing than before.

I sure don’t get some of these questions. Such as being reluctant to live for eternity in Heaven. What would you rather do? Not live anywhere forever? To just be dead? And the question of how to repent and be saved when they don’t want to be saved? I am thinking that’s easy. Don’t repent and you won’t be saved. Or repent as in turn from your sins but don’t ask for salvation. The act of repenting, alone does does not save you.
