Started playing at 12 years old, now 29.
At the time being in a broken family, living in a post-communist hellhole. World of Warcraft was my world, my escape. I forced myself to improve my English so that I could understand quest texts and delve deep into the lore.
I am 100% convinced that my life situation would have broken me if I didn't have this world to seek refuge in, when at my lowest.
It's more than a game, and that's why it's unstoppable.

I started playing WoW at the ripe age of 4 years old in 2006, my whole family is on this game. I had made a male human warrior as my first character and named it after our cat Grendal. I played that game for hours on end, still going till this day, and I could never replace the endless memories I have with this game. All the people, all the sweet moments you make, it’s unreal and I can never fully describe it.

There are still players in the game who do not read the forum and do not even know that guild bank items were deleted. So blizzard is now pushing hard for people to sub for 12 before they find out. I quit this POS. You do not get to delete my items and not give them back. If you want money for doing that you are smoking something worse than weed. No matter how shitty my life was I could hop on wow and have a great time with my friends. Wotlk-cataclysm were the most fun imo. Dungeon finder just brought random people together like never before. And players like me who played solo more often got the chance to run dungeons without sitting around capital cities wasting time. I started in mid-late Wrath, so I have no feelings for TBC. People that say TBC is the best expansion in my opinion are massively affected by nostalgia factor.

@@laurynassimonaitis80 Well is not about fun since fun is subjective.
We are talking about core values of a mmorpg, core values that vanilla has, TBC has and then it starts to deluded in Wotlk that is how you measure how good a mmorpg is in general.
In the end there is no "x is better then y" for ex Wotlk has way better combat than Vanilla and TBC but dungeons are linear and boring just like TBC, raids are a joke except Ulduar, class homogenization started in Wotlk, heroics went from a challenge in TBC to a aoe joke in Wotlk, TBC had better progression in terms of PVE with better raids overall, sure dungeons are linear like Wotlk here is where Vanilla wins in dungeons design by far having the best dungeons since a dungeon is a place where you get lost, a place to discover a massive place.
Vanilla is a better mmorpg than TBC and Wotlk because the main protagonist is the world itself, the vastness of Azeroth, the exploring, the need of interaction between players that creates community that in the end is one of the core values of a mmorpg, WoW had such massive success in Vanilla until Wotlk because of the community and the connections created between players way more then the quality of the game itself.
In the end I can play and enjoy Vanilla, TBC, Wotlk and even a bit of Cata, after years of playing different expansions I don't have a favorite I just play various expansions and it all depends with who I play that is a major fact in having or not fun for me.

A Journey Through Azeroth: A Tale of Highs, Lows, and Family Bonds
I remember the day I first entered the vast world of World of Warcraft. It was a realm like no other, full of danger, alliances, and the thrill of setting foot in an unknown world. That first edition of the game-vanilla WoW-was the beginning of an adventure that would intertwine with my real life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
World of Warcraft wasn’t just a game. It was a social experience, a place where friends became family, and enemies could even turn into allies. There were so many ups and downs, epic wins, and bitter losses. Through each expansion, I strived for that next tier set of armor, pushing myself and my friends to our limits. Each raid and dungeon meant more than just loot; it was about proving ourselves and standing by our friends, sometimes for hours on end.
The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions were perhaps the golden age of my WoW journey. The stakes felt higher, the bosses more intimidating, and the community stronger than ever. These were the years where friendships solidified, both in-game and in real life. I met people who would become lifelong friends, fellow adventurers who shared the same dreams of legendary weapons and epic mounts. And the challenges we faced together only made us closer. There were late-night raids and all-day dungeon grinds, and through it all, we became something of a family.
But WoW wasn’t just about the game or my friends. Over time, my family became part of this journey as well. My children grew up watching me play, wide-eyed at the dragons, giants, and magic that filled Azeroth. As they got older, they joined me, their characters standing beside mine as we conquered dungeons and faced down formidable enemies. Those moments-playing side by side with my kids-made everything feel more profound. It was more than a game; it was a shared passion, an experience that bridged generations.
Like any adventure, my time in Azeroth was filled with love and conflict. There were friends who became like brothers, and there were rivalries that stung when they turned into silence. We didn’t always see eye to eye, and sometimes, in the heat of battle or the frustration of defeat, friendships faltered. But no matter the setbacks, I kept coming back, driven by the connections I’d built and the memories we were still making.
Looking back, I think of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King as the peak of my WoW days. The lore, the gameplay, the excitement of stepping into new zones and confronting powerful foes-all of it felt like a living, breathing story. And yet, even as the expansions rolled on and the game evolved, I stayed. Azeroth was home, and my friends and family were still there, standing with me against whatever came next.
Today, I still log on, and though the world of WoW has changed, the memories remain, woven into each zone, each dungeon, each raid. The journey isn’t over. It’s become a legacy-a world I shared with my children, my friends, and myself. And every time I log in, it’s not just to chase the next tier of armor or slay a new boss. It’s to relive the memories, to honor the journey, and to cherish the bonds forged in the fires of Azeroth.
This story reflects not just a game but a lifetime shared across realms, with both real and digital families by your side. What a journey!

Keep in mind a lot of the devs for WoW actually had played Everquest. Alex Afrasiabi infamously wrote a very scathing post about a raid encounter they'd added... and then Ion Hazzikostas did the exact same with the C'thun fight in vanilla WoW lol.

32:53 Runescape did it. More successfully than even WOW at least over time. OSRS kept player feedback at its core (for better or worse lol) and grew and grew, but also forked instead of just retread the same content. Also Halo as in MCC? I thought that was good lol unless Infinite did something like that which i wouldnt know haha.
    Great vid!

Wow was such a big part of my life. I met some of my best friends on that game. It was the best bonding tool ever, and while many of us don't play it or enjoy it as much as we used to it will always remain a part of my life and I will always support this game.

Great video! I played WoW since 2004 and still actively playing. I sub annually and take breaks here and there for real life stuff but it's just fun getting back into it with mates from highschool. Now our kids play with us and its just a 2 days play a week for us just for that social and fun interaction with old friends.

I started Ever Quest in 1999 at the age of 9, I was a kid in an adults world, but I was supported by my Dad and many other amazing people. It was the game of my life, I love it and I have so many amazing memories of it, however I've been playing WoW since release in 2004 and still playing now, despite playing it for so long EQ will always be my #1.

This was an amazing video! I liked your humor I lost it over the spacegoat thing . Everything seemed on point I'm glad you played as well you really honed in on some really great points that felt truthful. This coming from a guy who's played since tBC and has a horde symbol tattooed on his back, it's part of a bigger nerd tattoo with Chrono trigger and FF7 themes too but solid video referencing WoW from a players view. Subbing just for this😅

The downfall didn't start during Cataclysm. Wotlk had stepping stones of development that made the game go towards what the game is now, such as LFG tool and achievement systems. WOTLK is when the game started to loose its RPG feel, and part of what makes WoW so immersive. The philosophy of development shifted drastically during wotlk, and cataclysm followed the path.

Game had me when I was 4, I'm 24 now and still playing hardcore every day. Played Classic in 2019/2020 with my father who I started the game because of. This game is honestly 49% of my life. My wife and child of course being the other 51%. I've met some of my best friends because of it, I've travelled to other states to meet people, I honestly cant imagine what I would want to do if this game died tomorrow. The combat design, class design, raid design and everything is still best in class 20 years later.

Not gona lie as an avid wow player, who dreamt of playing the game in 2004 but couldn't because the family pc was so bad at the time but still purchased it on day 1 of its release, reading the manual on the bus home at 13 so pumped/hyped, then finally getting to play it when I got my pc for college and played religiously getting 2.5k rated pvp, mythic raider etc, I was so sad when Legion ended, I tried BFA and quit day 1, came back to bfa for about 3 months, quit, played Shadowlands without getting to level cap for the very first time since classic, went back to Classic in 2019, got 2 level 60s, played TBC with 3 level 70s, played WOTLK doing LK HC with 2 fully bis chars and 5 80 alts. Quit first week of Cata and not purchased War Within :(
Safe to say this vid got me quite emotional

Based on the very very few mmo games i've played, fans are typically subdivided into 4 groups. Those who like everything the developers throw in at them, those who hate evrything but keep playing anyway, those who love only the game at a certain expansion and hated everything new (they quit and join private servers who offer classic game experience of said game), and then those who just wanted to enjoy the game.
