At the time, I was on the outs with my sister. We hadn't talked in many years. Mostly because of offense on both sides. God used this message to help me understand what was going on. On my short drive to work (4 minutes) God challenged me to pray for her. I could hardly get her name out of my mouth. Tears would come because the pain was so great. And yet somehow I brought myself to do this. Within a short amount of time God brought us back together but I had to get over my hurt and offense leading to isolation. It was a hard process and many lessons along the way. Eventually, God brought our relationship full circle and we get along great now.
It took a lot of work on both our part. Sprinkle in life events coupled with obedience to the Lord and VIOLA. I share this story because it was this very teaching by John that awakened me.

I like John Bevere's sermons. I agree that we do not have the right to hold offense and unforgiveness. As believers we are all called to forgive. However, we need to differentiate that does not mean that you are required to maintain toxic individuals inside your inner circle. Let's not have the mistaken impression that in order to forgive a person that means that they have to remain close to you. That is not a healthy attitude and can actually impede your Christian walk depending on the level and depth of the toxicity. We must guard our heart with all diligence because out of it flow the issues of life.

Thank you for your comment! God used it to answer something I have been struggling with for so long. Although I forgave my parents and certain family members, I Don't believe I have to have a personal relationship with them. I believe it would not be wise knowing that I have reconciled with them before, and the same toxicity became counterproductive for myself in every aspect of the word. I forgive them, ask God to forgive me and to Bless them and for their Salvation. I just choose to love them from a safe distance and pray that this is the right Choice I am making before my God. I pray that God will give me assurance and Peace in this decision.

I was openly attacked by a fellow believer for being single years ago, and it took me a very long time to forgive him. Later, I heard that he fell on hard times and subsequently left the church, and I was again attacked, this time by a close friend of his, who also ended leaving the church. In both cases, I was felt hurt, offended and felt resentful towards both of them. I even began to gloat when I heard what happened to both of them. At one point, my heart became hardened and I openly hated them! It took a long time for me to forgive both of these fellow brothers, as God spoke to my heart and reminded me of the sins He forgave me for. Those realisations led me to forgive and move on. But recently, especially during the last year, long suppressed childhood and youth memories came flooding back. Once again, a lot of hate and bitterness was uncovered, towards those who hurt me in the past. And it hit me hard! I felt so much anger and resentment towards those abusers that thoughts of killing their like came to mind. That anger even spilled over in my workplace. My mother saw that bitterness in me this week, and told me I need to deal with it or I wouldn't see God's face. Yesterday, I sat in the car and confessed to God. I wept as I told Him of the abuse I suffered in childhood, and all the hate I had towards those who belittled me. It all came out, and I forgave all those people and asked God to touch their hearts. I'm glad God bought these things to my attention, which I kept hidden away for so long. With all that bitterness gone, I can finally be at peace and move on with my life.

First class sermon! Praise God. After forgiving and seeking for reconciliation, there will still be people who would not want to reconcile and will continue to sin against us, paying bad for good, thus making it impossible to have any kind of healthy relationship with them. Sadly, sometimes your only choice is to keep your distance from them...But we can still love them from a distance and pray for them and trust that God has everything in His hands.

Wao! I am blessed of the sermon WORD by WORD. How we categories offense| the world, fellow believers, spouse, pastor etc and the two classes of offended believers| those who are genuinely mistreated AND those who have in accurate information or have accurate information but have discerned inaccurately and think they are wronged, was clearly expounded. none HAVE A RIGHT TO BE OFFENDED.
Your testimony how you overcame offense plus the scripture impart me wisdom to apply. A person who can not forgive is a person who has forgotten what they have forgiven of. Am aware of what am forgiven of, thus have no room for unforgiveness.
Thank you and may revelation be showered upon you from glory to glory.

Purchase & read this book, thoroughly thoroughly recommend it, it's astonishingly accurate, it makes you recognize the enemy and his plan to divide, to isolate them. But recognize that the enemies plan is NOT allowed to overcome you! What the enemy means for evil, will be turned for your good! Hallelujah! God says we need to forgive as you need also to be forgiven, we can't NOT forgive them. When you choose to refuse to forgive others, you both fall straight into the enemies trap, and isolate yourself from a loving Father, He's too Holy to be in the presence of an unforgiving heart, an unforgiving heart often responds in retaliation, but CAN we afford to be outside of the Fathers' heart? However much we "should" be offended in the eyes of the world, we HAVE "to take captive EVERY thought to make it obedient to Christ" - Jesus did this on the cross, He so awesomely set this example, He saw the enemies fight over those that hurt, humiliated Him before, & getting to the cross, on the cross, He STILL prayed and forgave them, the man next to him on the cross sees the difference in Jesus to other men, the soldier next to the cross looked up and testifies to it! That's the power of forgiveness! Didn't Jesus have more reason to be offended than we do...yet...He forgave, THIS man is Jesus!

Jesus was talking about his coming in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70. He said many of the people standing there listening to him would still be living. - Upon analysis of the text and it’s relationship to the Old Testament apocalyptic language it’s not even debatable

What is it with teachers these days that insist on making the congregations repeat random (non-key) words, and also feel the need to prompt crowd for applause or pat on back?

Jessica, John's statement that "I know people who have been there" is not to be discounted just because it's a personal experience. For one, look up "BILL WEISS, 23 MINUTES IN HELL" on You Tube. Don't know if John knows him, but that is one experience, among many, no one should discount. John's "validation about what he thinks about hell" IS based on Scripture. It's not what he THINKS about it. Zimmerman's IS!! Z just doesn't WANT it to be true. No, the EXACT wording "We all deserve to burn in hell" is not in the Bible, but that doctrine is easily exegeted from many verses of Scripture, and has always been well understood to be historic Biblical truth. The Bible is very clear on that point. Someone who discounts a phrase like that because "It's not in the Bible is a "LETTERIST", trying to discount something just because they BIble doesn't say exactly that. It's really an excuse and not good Biblical interpretation. Many Biblical realities are not specifically pointed out with the exact phraseology in the scriptures, but taken together, they are undeniable. Do a word study just in John and Romans on "condemnation", "save", and the "wrath of God"! Many verses DO say that all are under condemnation who do not believe the Gospel and are saved from the wrath of God - AND THAT BECAUSE WE DESERVE IT! Who DOESN'T deserve hell? YOU? Zimmerman? ME? EVERYONE deserves hell because we are born in sin and we practice sin. Jesus died in our place because we ALL deserve hell. That's God's love. "And this is love...that He sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins." "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of the God." Romans 3:23. Also, John 3:18, "He that believeth on Him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already." Nothing could be clearer. You said, "Hell is not such a cut and dried thing as people often try to make out,.." REALLY? Where did you get that idea? It must be your own presupposition - what you WANT to believe!! Dangerous. It IS cut and dried in the Bible. If the Bible talks about hell, as you've observed, more than about heaven, we discount it to our own peril. Dismiss your own presuppositions and what you WANT to believe and be subject to the truths of Scripture. There's safety in that. The good news is that Jesus came into the world to "save" sinners. Save from what? The eternal justified wrath of holy almighty God! Bless you.
Yes, who among us doesn't have a lot more to learn? :)

What's difficult for me is that I cannot relate to the sin that was done against me. That's why "forgive because you have been forgiven" just doesn't carry the weight it used to before the offence. Using the example the pastor gave, a kid who has been molested can't use that principle to forgive his molester because so far, other than the sin of his very nature (being a descendant of Adam), and maybe lying or disobedience, he hasn't done anything that bad. Now before anyone tells me that all sins are equal- even God gave different punishments for different sins in the OT. Some things, only God can help you forgive because it boils down to trusting that He will make all things work for our good.
