Yeah I’m surprised too. I thought it was okay and pretty challenging. Unlike a lot of the other tracks in this game I was fine with it being difficult (unlike some other tracks like Shitbert Land and Tits Turnpike. [Mind you I first played on Wii U so maybe I just struggled with the controls]) I liked its DS counterpart a lot as well. The music isn’t as good but I prefer DS’ controls on the Wii U so it made the track easier to navigate.
I wasn't at all surprised to see it that low, but that's only because I love it and it's inexplicably the course I'm best at. To this day almost 25 years after release I remain undefeated in it when playing against my friends, and they're very vocal for their dislike of it.
It's not a bad track but I think it's the hardest and kinda jank so it makes sense. I like boardwalk and I want it to come back in a future installment.
Damn, people had some strong opinions about the tracks and characters in this one. Like damn, Big Donut and Peach are that hated? And on the positive end, Block Fort, Luigi and Yoshi are insanely popular, to almost equally comedic proportions. But yeah, I'd love to see this for one of the Mario Party games. Maybe one of the N64 ones to start.
Probably whatFernando said, and she just wasn't that popular and you had to pick a least favorite to submit your answers, so most probably just picked her because they had to pick someone and they didn't really have a specific least favorite. I didn't even see it coming. I thought it would be Bowser or DK because they are heavy drivers. Lol.
The scoring system does give much greater differences for smaller amounts. Since there are only 4 battle tracks, each one can expect to receive in the neighborhood of 1/4 of votes, compared to 1/16 for race tracks. I doubt BD was so much _hated_ as it was just not liked as much as the others.
A person individuay could like all the characters but just like one character the least. Have a whole bunch of people thinking the same way could lead to the appearance of Peach being "that hated".
@@renakunisaki Yes ,she is annoying to have as a rival (Rival in Mario Kart ,is the AI chosen to try and beat the player ,the majority of the tome ,they will get 1st place if the player didn't get it ,or 2nd place if the player got 1st place ,but there is another rival AI ,but it's a rival to your rival ,he will be 3rd a majority of the time ,but can get 1st/2nd place if he was lucky enough against your Rival) ,Your rival will have way more rubberbanding than the other AI and the 2nd rival will also have more rubberbanding ,your rival have a bit more than 2nd rival ,and all the other AI ,have kind of the same rubberbanding (There is still small difference between them) . In MKDD ,I once did a 150cc All-Cup Tour ,my rival was DK-Toadette ,the 2nd rival was Petey Piranha-Yoshi ,I got 1st in all 16 courses ,DK got 2nd in 10 courses and Petey Piranha got 2nd in 6 courses . There was only 1 courses where the Top 3 wasn't Me ,DK and Petey Piranha ,and it was Bébé Mario-Peach on the 14th course ,on DK Mountain ,they got in 3rd place ,while DK finished in 4th place . DK finished 5 time in 3rd place and once in 4th place ,while Petey Piranha finished 10 time in 3rd place but never placed lower . Here the end results (In points) : Me :160 DK :114 Petey Piranha :108 Baby Luigi :40 Mario :36 Baby Mario :34 Birdo :30 Paratroopa :22 And in time (Combined) : Me. :33'48"747 DK :36'13"418 Petey Piranha :36'26"251 Baby Luigi :38'27"485 Mario :38'37"059 Baby Mario :38'50"078 Birdo :39'02"564 Paratroopa :39'23"974 Me :33'48"737 DK :+02'23"661 Petey Piranha :+02'37"568 Baby Luigi :+04'11"945 Mario :+04'48"212 Birdo :+05'13"808 Baby Mario :+05'29"225 Paratroopa :+05'34"617
Also ,I noticed that it's because of rubberbanding ,that rival can exist ,because on MKDD ,whith the cheat that make everyone go at max speed (100km/h or 70 m/h) ,there is no rival ,every AI has the same chance of getting 2nd ,I tried a 150cc All-Star in this mode ,and all AI were very close in points
@@plumebrisee6206 lol so funny.. i used to call them : The slower and the partner. all others are behind. it do change at all course randomly. and if ever you crash them to the point other pass ahead far away. he will go so fast he will be unbeatable unless he hits a banana. i plan to do a demo of this in near future. I want to play back MK64 !
That battlecourt ranking was so hilariously lopsided, and yet we all saw it coming. The fort one is just absolutely classic, and it has a feeling that each person can have their own fort, and you can kinda get a good view of the action no matter what. The distant second is Skyscraper which is super deadly, great for quick matches with nowhere to hide, and a fantastic aesthetic. The decker level has decent aesthetics, but it's somewhat held back by the fact that you can get separated and not encounter each other for a while, or worse yet, someone can play keep-away and drag the match out. Donut is last because... it's just not that visually interesting, and you can kinda end up going in circles in a really boring way, there's not many good ways to mix up your approach. As for the characters, Toad and Luigi have iconic and memorable lines. "I'm Luigi! Number 1!", and also he's just the lovable guy that Luigi is - he has that fanbase that few other characters than match. That character, of course is Yoshi, who is both a dinosaur, and also people probably freshly remember how helpful Yoshi is in Mario World and Yoshi's Story when coming in to Mario Kart 64. Of course, it also helps that these three karts feel pretty good to control, which is a reason I suspect the heavies are low on this list.
Yep, we all knew that Block Fort would win. Back when MK64 came out, we actually played that "every player has his own fort" mode. You could never leave your fort, you could only shoot bananas & shells across the map and across the bridges at the other players. That meant that the streets on the bottom would be FILLED with green shells. So much fun. Skyscraper was legendary for suicide falls, Double Deck was legendary for the cellar that was usually just a death trap because once again, all green shells ended up there at some point. That leaves Big Donut. The #1 issue the map has is a design problem: Red shells are a guaranteed hit and the only counterplay is to keep a banana or green shell behind your kart and pray the red shell would hit the item instead of your kart. The 4 walls being essentially DBD-like walls where you loop around and chase each other while going in circles didn't help either. You often spent more time looking at the map than at the screen. If we could re-balance the battle mode, I'd remove red shells completely and give green shells a maximum of wall bounces. The 4 maps are fine, it's just the general meta that stinks.
The Block Fort also had I think an underrated aspect of multiplayer game design from that era: the colors. A lot of the split-screen multiplayer games (DK64's multiplayer is the first one that comes to mind) had clear bright colors on floors and walls to make it incredibly easy to screen-peek, because screen-peeking was expected and encouraged by the game design. Even just looking out of your peripheral vision you can clearly tell where every player is relative to yourself, without having to take your eyes off your corner of the screen. The Donut and Double Deck has it to a small extent, with the outer walls and floor coloring respectively, but really to have the same level of understanding you have to either really pay attention to their screens, look at tiny mini-map, or just drive around hope you see the other player before they see you.
Part of me wants to imagine that the skyscraper being a battle course may have taken a small amount of inspiration from Twisted Metal, but I'm probably completely wrong.
@@NeZCheese the green shells do, indirectly, have a limit. There can only be 100 objects on the track at once; after that, old ones start to disappear. So the shells do eventually go away... but probably only by being replaced with new shells.
Wario: HERE I GO! Fun fact: the boat on DK's jungle parkway has collision, I remember using the star and getting hit by the boat, and then getting on the water
It honestly hurts a bit seeing both my favorite character and my favorite track rank the lowest overall, but it was a fun survey nonetheless. I sure hope we'll be seeing one for Diddy Kong Racing and DK64 in the future.
I can understand not many people liking Toad's Turnpike but the music on that track is amazing for a racing game. Plus I've always been a fan of tracks taking place on highways or cities almost like those Cruis N or San Francisco RUSH arcade games so it'll always have the top in my heart
No, it's not a coincidence, I literally favoured Luigi and Yoshi purely on their greeness lol And yeah, I loved the colourful block fort. It also looks like most of my favourite tracks are the bottom 4.
People sure had strong feelings about Toad's Turnpike lol. Toads Turnpike Owns, for the record. Princess Peach isn't my favourite, but she doesn't deserve to be so low. :( There's like one woman in the game and she's also in the objectively best weight class, I think she deserves props for that.
The first time I ever got to play Mario Kart 64 was at a friends’ house. Since I was still a little kid, I could never beat my sister or my friends’ sister, which made me sad. But one night, I decided to play the 50cc Special Cup on my own. I picked Yoshi since I had also played Super Mario World there, and I grew attached to the lovable dinosaur pretty quickly. And even though I had no skill whatsoever back then (and always got hopelessly lost in Yoshi Valley) I managed to win first place! My friend wasn’t there to see it (I can’t remember why but I was practically alone for an hour or so), but to this day it is still one of my most treasured memories!
Please do more of these! I never had an N64 so I think it would be cool to do a newer console like the Wii era to current era so that more people including me can participate
You could have added an option for the characters that asked something like: 'If your favorite character gets picked, do you pick this character instead?' I feel like a lot of people would pick Peach 2nd.
Constructive criticism: leave the next poll in the description so your subscribers feel like they have influence on future videos and get more engaged with you
I really like those videos but I think you should adapt your formula such that it depends on the sample size. For the 16 tracks it makes sense that the favorite / least favorite counts more. But for the 4 battle courses, the punishment / bonus is too much, imo. I think you can easily fix this by throw in the sample size into the formula and give the favorite and least favorite numbers a weighted score of: (percentage) * (sample size) / X. I'd suggest X = 8 which would lead to the same formula for the 16 tracks. And 16 is probably a good base value where the 2X thing makes sense. That's just a random suggestion though. Feel free to ignore this comment. Anyway, thanks for those entertaining videos.
I was coming to say the same thing, it feels wrong that a difference of over 200 points is possible without some near perfect love for one and hate for another in a system based on percentages. Especially when the love/hate hovers near 50% for both when there's only a 1/4th chance of either getting picked for love and hate. For anyone wondering what new scores for the battle courses would be under this scoring system, here they are: Block Forts, 122.6 Skyscraper, 74.4 Double Deck, 59.1 Big Donut, 35.8 I think these numbers are more comparable to the rest of the list results, of course the characters numbers would change, but not as drastically.
I love this video style a lot. It's enjoyable to see what your community thinks in general, but it is also fun to compare it to my own opinions. I am really enjoying this video series and enjoy participating in your surveys. Keep up the great work.
Hello! Research professor here - you have such fascinating content and I am so happy to see research applied in context of so many of our childhood favorite games. I did want to leave a small comment on how you could make these videos conceptually even better: expanded analysis and grouping. So. You have all of this fascinating data on player perceptions, but very little data on the participants themselves. What if you decided to dive into things such as participant demographics for nominal variables (geographical location; race/culture; gender identification; handedness, did you play most often by yourself/with siblings/with friends are all examples), and then also started collecting data on ordinal/continuous factors (such as total estimated time spent playing the game in total; Likert scales on how much people either liked or did not like a course on a scale of say...1 to 6; a similar Likert scale on character preference; another Likert on perceived level of competence at the game)? What this ultimately could do for your analysis is create not only more robust opportunities for difference statistical analysis (especially ANOVAs or Kruskal Wallis), associational analysis (I'm drooling at the idea of the logistic regressions you could get for odds ratios, not to mention the fascinating correlations you could identify) and the descriptives to best identify your audience per game...but it would also allow for grouping. Grouping is going to give you the opportunity not only to run difference statistics at all, but it's going to ultimately give you the chance to statistically verify both the statistical significance of all of the results you gathered in this video (is there REALLY a difference between how much people like Luigi and Yoshi, or does it just only appear that way?) and even more importantly, the effect sizes. Effect sizes will effectively tell you exactly how much of a statistical difference there is between your results in a concrete way, without having to make proprietary inferences like you had to in this video (and others). Now, don't get me wrong, I think your approach to your videos is wonderful, easy to follow and clever. I just wanted to provide food for thought for you to take an already great series of videos in a more "statistically powered" direction should you so choose, especially since your scientific methology is already quite strong and your sample sizes on your surveys are more than representative in each of you videos! Thank you again for your wonderful videos - as you can tell, I'm a big fan! - and have a great evening. Back to sipping on decaf and revising dissertations for me (while my toddler daughter screams at Bubble Guppies in the background).
Great video! I participated in the survey too! You should totally do one of these for the Mario Party games, maybe starting with the N64 games and then, if the surveys are popular enough, the GC games. Though if you were to include questions about each minigame it'd certainly take a looooong time :P
Very interesting that you used even weighting instesd of double weighting like the Majora's Mask video. Was glad to take part this time! Poor Toad Turnpike though. Its my favorite track.
i think rainbow road not being number 1 makes sense. It's a divisive track, people either love or hate it, and there's no in between. 15% said it was their favourite, more than any other course, but a lot of people hate it for being too long as well. Whereas Bowser's Castle and Royal Raceway are at the top because they're liked by the vast majority.
I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but I loved how you ranked the top 4 tracks on the left side of the screen just like mk64 would put the top 4 racers in order on the left side from top to bottom. Great video!
It may be kinda offtopic, but I loved the N64 retro courses on Mario Kart Wii (especially Sherbet Land, my favourite on the Wii retro course selection)
Also I'd like to see you do survey videos of the worlds in Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Kirby 64, Donkey Kong 64, and Yoshi's Story please.
Wow I absolutely loved how you did this video man! I didn't know you would also do both the battle courses and the characters themselves that's pretty dope!! Yeah I find it funny that the 2 green characters were the most popular choice also but that doesn't surprise me considering they're fan favorites (hence they also have their own series like the Yoshi series for Yoshi and Luigi's Mansion for Luigi). However, I am surprised that Yoshi was number 1. I thought either Toad or Peach would be number 1 because they are also fan favorite characters and also because they are just as lightweight as Yoshi is.
What a lot of people here don't seem to know.. There are 3 different weight classes, Heavy (Bowser, DK, Wario), Mid (Mario, Luigi) and Light (Yoshi, Peach, Toad) All Heavy & Light weights have the same higher top speed, while mid has lower top speed Light has higher acceleration, while mid & heavy have lower acceleration. So, it's light > heavy > mid (Weight also determines what happens when characters crash into each other and in that terms characters in the same weight class actually make a difference and here it's Bowser > DK > Wario > Mario > Luigi > Yoshi > Peach > Toad)
It's funny how Yoshi and Peach are identical in terms of gameplay, which means the difference in opinion is entirely due to liking dinosaurs more than princesses. I'm not surprised all the heavies ranked in the lower end, they're just more frustrating to drive.
I believe it's because in this game, Yoshi, despite not having his usual voice, has a fun character. Peach, meanwhile, is boring, having no interesting lines and her voice is monotonous, so she oozes less personality than other characters.
Now I want to see the Bowser Castle tracks ranked. For me, the OG N64's the hardest of the bunch, considering the obstacles, super-tight turns, wonky physics and the awful rubberbanding make it one of the toughest tracks if you're planning to 100% the game.
The character ranking is kinda neat. Top 2 characters have green/white color schemes, 3-4 have red/white color schemes, and 6-7 are the monstrous/nonhuman characters
The character rankings were surprising, seeing the 2 of the best characters at the top and bottom. I also thought that toad would be at first because of the iconic TASes
Yeah, Bowser's Castle 2nd place. I'm satisfied. But why is there so little love for the flower cup? I really like those tracks. ...minus Toad's Turnpike. Also: The results for the battle tracks are pretty much what everyone expected.
Essay Warning: I think it’s because while most of the flower cup courses have great or even exceptional aesthetic and theme, they also tend to be a big pain to play. Toads Turnpike has a great nighttime aesthetic with its iconic music and beautiful backdrop, but the cars can be extremely punishing to get hit by. Not to mention extra mode making the cars harder to dodge. Frappe Snowland has a nice winter wonderland aesthetic which, while not exceptional, is still pleasant to the senses. However, the snowman obstacles can be pretty difficult to avoid and can be a pain to hit (especially for newcomers). The track can get pretty barren and boring at times. Yet, for all the barren off-road this course has, it has some of the most deceptively restrictive off-road deadzones in the game, which makes it tedious to shortcut through and oddly punishing (again, especially for newcomers that aren’t aware of that). Choco Mountain does a great job pulling off a unique chocolate theme, and it has a great atmospheric fog, but those off-road slopes are abysmal to deal with. It’s like normal off-road except it stops you to a halt and is just buggy that it makes the track feel very haphazard and clunky to drive on. And of course, who could forget the infamous cliff-drop that can easily kill your races. Furthermore, the slopes have this bug where if you drive along the base of the slopes, you not only get stuck, but your kart can also just do this sporadic 90-degree turn that hurls you over the cliffdrop. Extremely aggravating. Mario Raceway is alright. It’s like Luigi Raceway, but more complex and fleshed out. And where it has some relatively weaker aesthetics, it also sports way tamer challenges than rest of the flower cup, which makes it easier to play and enjoy. It is odd though. For how annoying a lot of the tracks can get, they have some very pretty visuals that make me want to like them. Alas, most of these issues can be mitigated with better skill and game knowledge, but newcomers aren’t gonna have that, and first impressions can be pretty lasting.
Surprised to see banshee boardwalk so low compared to other tracks. To me, it's forgettable, and the design house section completely contradicts the mechanic where you spin out when you take lots of tight turns, but it didn't seem like the worst track to me. I honestly expected sherbet land to be the lowest rated. My least favourite is toad's turnpike, because I cannot stand how harsh the punishment is for hitting a car, especially since you can get combo'd by them.
@Burst Your Bubble Luigi Raceway is boring, but it doesn't actively annoy me like Toad's Turnpike does. Also, Luigi Raceway is quite short, so at least it's over quickly, while Toad's Turnpike is one of the longest tracks in the game.
I think it also has to do with people's nemories of dealing with banshee's boardwalk using those crappy poorly lit tvs that made this course a living hell
I really like Toad turnpoke specially in Extra. It's the only race I can't guarantee to place in 1st thx to the traffic, it makes it challenging, the rest of the stages are piece of cake
9.5% of people have Mario as their favorite character?! What kind of freak thinks that Mario is a better character than literally any other being in the Mario franchise? I would sooner play as a Thwimp, a Terrapin, a New Donker, or an ordinary Brick Block than I would Mario in these multiplayer spinoffs, and that's without even considering actual characters like Luigi or Peach. What an absolutely bonkers statistic this video has introduced me to.
Best Mario Kart ever, it's so ethereal, so disgustingly 90's, so full of color and the music gets the spirit of the game so well. Absolute GOAT. Sometimes I'm amazed how many young people grew up loving MKDS more.
I'm pleased that Royal Raceway came first! It was always my favourite. I'm surprised it's so liked by other people though, I was really not expecting it to be rated so well. I thought Bowser Castle or Rainbow Road would come first amongst the general public.
I remember when I first got Mario Kart 64, Banshee Boardwalk was my least favorite track, because the TV I was playing in made it almost dark except the lights, making it hard to complete the track. It wasn't until I later discovered that I could change the brightness of my television.
I wish with your data you collected some info on people's opinion on the music! You get so much people to respond, and I'm just as interested in how people would rank the music
As someone who never played MK64, it's surprising how Banshee Boardwalk, Frappe Snowland and Choco Mountain are so despised, because they're some of the best retro tracks, guess that's proof how different MKDS was from 64
I personally voted in such a way that indicated that I like ALL the courses, battle maps, and characters, so it's important to note that just because someone said something was their least favorite doesn't mean they hate or even dislike that thing. It just means that they liked it the least. I think I voted Kalimari Desert as my favorite race track, Choco Mountain as my least favorite race track (you can fall off the track near the end and have to drive all the way around again causing you to lose placing quickly, but the track is overall still fun), Block Fort favorite battle track, Big Donut least favorite (it's okay but it's just a circle pretty much), DK favorite character, Wario least favorite character (I just play as him/pick him the least out of all characters). I like all the characters and maps in Mario Kart 64 on a basic level.
Excellent video, I love this style of video! I would like if you added more of your analysis as to why people like certain things within the survey. For instance when you explained that royal raceway was probably a favorite among many players because the ceremony takes place there and has reference to Mario 64, I thought that was a great explanation! For the next survey I hope you do banjo kazooie / tooie. Maybe you can base it on favorite levels and collectables? Great job!
Some notes: 1. Surveying people about their opinions on 'X' vs hearing one person's opinion on 'X' does not mean the former is more scientific than the latter. 2. It is a bit difficult to see the stats on some of the boxes, especially for the character segment. Don't let consistency get in the way of good data presentation. Other than that, another excellent video. Loving all the content you are making.
If you do something like this with the N64 Mario Party titles, I kinda hope there will be multiple videos per game, since there's so much information to cover, that a single video on any one of the games seems like it would be a lot of info to break down and cover. Like breaking the mini-games into multiple categories (4 Player Free-for-all, Last-Man-Standing, 3V1, 2V2, Battle, Coin-games, Item mini-games, Duel mini-games), as well as favorite levels in mini-games that have a few different levels (like Bumper Balls in 2) it chooses from, could be 3 separate videos with how many mini-games there are to cover per game. You should also remind people to check your community tab posts at the end of these videos, or even announce when you'll be putting a poll up, since TH-cam is a fickle platform and sometimes only delivers the posts when they're already 4 days old
I used a different analysis of the numbers. It was basically useless as I came up with basically the same results, but there were some mildly interesting flips here and there. For the curious: for courses, Beach beats Rainbow, Luigi beats Wario, and Choco beats Frappe, while for characters, Bowser jumps up to 5th, passing up DK and Wario.
Interesting video! I'd be interested in seeing ones like this done on other MK games to see how they compare in terms of how the game's tracks rank as a whole (and how remakes of old tracks compare to their older versions - Is MK8 Baby Park more or less favored than DD Baby Park, for instance?) and how things shift between in terms of characters - Would some low-ranking characters in this game get boosted up thanks to their DD specials, for instance?
What I'm learning from this poll is apparently people really like the first cup, and the moment they get into the second cup, they immediately go "oh, fuck this".
Not surprised to see the Banshee track at the bottom. The track feels hard in a troll-ish way. The narrow Z section before the fort feels kinda unfair for no reason and the bats are an obstacle for obstacle's sake: you are down to luck with them. Unlike the obstacles in other tracks that punish you if you drive poorly or try to get cheeky, the bats will will pop randomly to screw you no matter what.

Good video but slight critique, I feel as though there should’ve been a ‘dislike playing’ option for a more accurate rating. For example; I don’t like playing as Mario but he’s not my least favourite, however as there’s no ‘dislike’ or ‘neutral’ option I’d have no choice but to choose ‘least favourite.’ Like I said, it’s a slight critique and it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference but I thought I’d throw it out there for any future rankings. Nice video, I enjoyed it.
Peach being so low kinda makes sense stat wise too. If you want the highest acceleration, you go Toad. If you want really good speed with high acceleration and more weight, pick Yoshi. Peach just kinda sits in between the two.
I'd just ask for Snoop to add some noteworthy comments from fans for a better insight if possible, I think it's fun this way. for instance, I voted Peach as my least favorite, but the thing is, I dont deslike any of the characters, but I HAD to pick one and my criteria for it was engine sound, really.
If I have to give any criticism, it would be to change the formula a bit in cases where there are only a few options like with the battle tracks, as right now there are comically large and tiny scores. Great video though, I love the concept.
Hell yeah 🔥
Hehe the lost media in vg boi
I agree

So fitting that Mario would end up with a score of 64.
As well as his course being the devil's calling card, haha.

That’s a game I know back to front, would love that
Might as well compare Kazooie and Tooie
@@thejedisonic67 yes that would be awesome too
I didn't expect banshee boardwalk to be the least favorite track from the poll at all, because it's one of my favorites.
Same!
It’s one of my favorites too, but I was expecting it sadly
Yeah I’m surprised too. I thought it was okay and pretty challenging. Unlike a lot of the other tracks in this game I was fine with it being difficult (unlike some other tracks like Shitbert Land and Tits Turnpike. [Mind you I first played on Wii U so maybe I just struggled with the controls])
I liked its DS counterpart a lot as well. The music isn’t as good but I prefer DS’ controls on the Wii U so it made the track easier to navigate.

If i have to guess is due to Peach's less than stelar voice lines on MK64.
Yoshi has been my go to guy since mk64 all the way through mk8 deluxe!
People love Royal Raceway yet hate Peach, way to bite the hand that feeds guys
I wonder if that's at all influenced by how annoying Peach is as an opponent in other games.
Here the end results (In points) :
Me :160
DK :114
Petey Piranha :108

Mario :+04'48"212
Birdo :+05'13"808
Baby Mario :+05'29"225
Paratroopa :+05'34"617
Same for Bowser's Castle and Bowser.
On the loopside probably the reason Peach is the lowest is partly because her voice actor did a horrible job in this game
I sure hope we'll be seeing one for Diddy Kong Racing and DK64 in the future.
that your villain origin story.
Mine is I like playing Ganondorf in competitive Smash...
If it's any consolation, Peach is probably the best character in Smash Ultimate, so you can take revenge there.
I thought I was the only one. I am not alone.
How's it feel to have shit taste
oh my gosh same for both
I had never seen the character portraits in such high detail... Wow.
I can understand not many people liking Toad's Turnpike but the music on that track is amazing for a racing game. Plus I've always been a fan of tracks taking place on highways or cities almost like those Cruis N or San Francisco RUSH arcade games so it'll always have the top in my heart
No, it's not a coincidence, I literally favoured Luigi and Yoshi purely on their greeness lol
And yeah, I loved the colourful block fort.
It also looks like most of my favourite tracks are the bottom 4.
Royal Raceway is super nostalgic for me because you can drive right up to Peach's castle
People sure had strong feelings about Toad's Turnpike lol. Toads Turnpike Owns, for the record.
Princess Peach isn't my favourite, but she doesn't deserve to be so low. :(
There's like one woman in the game and she's also in the objectively best weight class, I think she deserves props for that.
Her voice just sounded so... Yeah...
@@RaFaReAcH every characters voice sucks in mario kart 64 except wario
Props for being a woman
@@Bendyrulz Some people just like playing as girls. 🤷 idgi, but I damn well respect it.
Yeah, I was born during the DS/Wii era
Been really enjoying these survey videos lately! I’m a huge statistics fan so these have been very fun to watch
You could have added an option for the characters that asked something like: 'If your favorite character gets picked, do you pick this character instead?' I feel like a lot of people would pick Peach 2nd.
Idk, I feel Mario would get most people's votes there. Ohh my favorite is gone, ohh well there is good ol' Mario I'll play him.
@@danielgibson3422 Mario would always be my fourth choice in any pre double dash MK game. After Toad,Luigi and Yoshi
@@blazicgd Mario is always my first choice, if not then Gold Mario if he is there. There's just something about Metal Mario that doesn't stick with me

eh she had the lowest "do you like this character (at all)" percentage. it's a shame because she was my favorite to play
This is the first time I voted in a poll like this, super cool!
For anyone wondering what new scores for the battle courses would be under this scoring system, here they are:
Block Forts, 122.6
Skyscraper, 74.4
Double Deck, 59.1
Big Donut, 35.8
I think these numbers are more comparable to the rest of the list results, of course the characters numbers would change, but not as drastically.
Well, the point was to rank them. The points are irrelevant past that point.
Fun fact: the dev's favorite course was Mario Raceway. This is why pushing L on the title screen brings up the time trial record for that course.

Much appreciated for crediting the MK64HD assets, good video Snooplax!
Right off the bat I knew Banshee Boardwalk was gotta get dumpstered on lmaooo
It's probably just because of the mirror mode version of the track
@@bewearstar9462 oooh yeah, I forgot about mirror turnpike
i think rainbow road not being number 1 makes sense. It's a divisive track, people either love or hate it, and there's no in between. 15% said it was their favourite, more than any other course, but a lot of people hate it for being too long as well. Whereas Bowser's Castle and Royal Raceway are at the top because they're liked by the vast majority.
Pretty interesting to see that the two most popular tracks are the ones with the castles.
This video was fire, dude! Nice job with these surveys! I love them so much(even though I miss the rom hacks...)!
I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but I loved how you ranked the top 4 tracks on the left side of the screen just like mk64 would put the top 4 racers in order on the left side from top to bottom. Great video!
I actually do appreciate the scoring system. Nice and simple but makes sense from what I can tell
It may be kinda offtopic, but I loved the N64 retro courses on Mario Kart Wii (especially Sherbet Land, my favourite on the Wii retro course selection)
Thank guys for loving me
Also I'd like to see you do survey videos of the worlds in Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Kirby 64, Donkey Kong 64, and Yoshi's Story please.
Nice vid man,It was interesting all the results that the survey had
There are 3 different weight classes,
Heavy (Bowser, DK, Wario), Mid (Mario, Luigi) and Light (Yoshi, Peach, Toad)
All Heavy & Light weights have the same higher top speed, while mid has lower top speed
Light has higher acceleration, while mid & heavy have lower acceleration.
So, it's light > heavy > mid
(Weight also determines what happens when characters crash into each other and in that terms characters in the same weight class actually make a difference and here it's
Bowser > DK > Wario > Mario > Luigi > Yoshi > Peach > Toad)
I love the feel of Rainbow Road but I wish it wasn’t so long
I've subscribed due to this video and the previous Mario one. Keep em coming!
I REALLY LOVE THOSE POLL VIDEOS KEEP IT COMING
Love these videos. Can't believe i'm just finding them now!!
You should do a Mario Party one next!
Yah that's fair toad is pretty iconic in MK64
It's a lot more fun to watch when you took the survey 👍
Took me a while to realize you were talking about the race track and not the soundtrack.
Yeah, Bowser's Castle 2nd place. I'm satisfied. But why is there so little love for the flower cup? I really like those tracks. ...minus Toad's Turnpike. Also: The results for the battle tracks are pretty much what everyone expected.
Essay Warning:
I think it’s because while most of the flower cup courses have great or even exceptional aesthetic and theme, they also tend to be a big pain to play.
Toad’s Turnpike is especially brutal in Extra Mode since you drive against the traffic.

Meh
Wow, I can't believe Banshee Boardwalk got the lowest score. I really enjoy that course. But everybody's different so can't complain.
I don't think it's the worst track, either. It's only the 2nd or 3rd worst.
@@RpGfreak901 question now is why do so many people not like that track?
How can you do my guy DK like that?
I'm pleased that Royal Raceway came first! It was always my favourite. I'm surprised it's so liked by other people though, I was really not expecting it to be rated so well. I thought Bowser Castle or Rainbow Road would come first amongst the general public.
5:46 The chapter here is called "Bid Donut".
Thanks I fixed it
I remember when I first got Mario Kart 64, Banshee Boardwalk was my least favorite track, because the TV I was playing in made it almost dark except the lights, making it hard to complete the track. It wasn't until I later discovered that I could change the brightness of my television.
I wish with your data you collected some info on people's opinion on the music! You get so much people to respond, and I'm just as interested in how people would rank the music
Id love to see this for doom levels and games!
I love your survey videos, keep it up! Banjo-Kazooie would be very interesting to see!
I always main Princess, popularity be damned.
Bowser's Castle has to be my favorite Mario Kart 64 Track, it's just so good.
Your channel is very underrated
This is rad, I might do something similar for Smash or something, not sure if I'd get such a big sample size though
Y'all are crazy for putting the best battle course in the series in the negatives
Great job!
Loving these videos!
Toad's Turnpike Mirror Mode is the cultivated man's choice.
You know what rainbow road is definitely one of my favorite tracks I love the music in it you know I'm a Rainbow Road King at Rainbow Road
Some notes:
You should also remind people to check your community tab posts at the end of these videos, or even announce when you'll be putting a poll up, since TH-cam is a fickle platform and sometimes only delivers the posts when they're already 4 days old
Have a good holiday break Snooplax
Love this concept. Keep making these videos.
Peach was always my go to.
i gotta say, i am surprised banshee boarrdwalk did so badly. I did not realise there was so much hate for that course.
Excellent videos! Would love to see a GoldenEye 007 survey sometime
What I'm learning from this poll is apparently people really like the first cup, and the moment they get into the second cup, they immediately go "oh, fuck this".
Oddly enough, Rainbow Road was my favorite track and still is today, also Toad was my favorite character to play as.
Hey, I didnt vote but my most favourite character ranked first, haha
I'd love to see a similar video for double dash and mkwii
Toad is my favorite in this game because my all-time favorite Robot Chicken bit is the one where Toad is a getaway driver

For example; I don’t like playing as Mario but he’s not my least favourite, however as there’s no ‘dislike’ or ‘neutral’ option I’d have no choice but to choose ‘least favourite.’
Like I said, it’s a slight critique and it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference but I thought I’d throw it out there for any future rankings.
Nice video, I enjoyed it.
Peach being so low kinda makes sense stat wise too. If you want the highest acceleration, you go Toad. If you want really good speed with high acceleration and more weight, pick Yoshi. Peach just kinda sits in between the two.
peach's stats are identical to yoshi's
I'd just ask for Snoop to add some noteworthy comments from fans for a better insight if possible, I think it's fun this way.
for instance, I voted Peach as my least favorite, but the thing is, I dont deslike any of the characters, but I HAD to pick one and my criteria for it was engine sound, really.
Bowsers castle from this is my all time favorite mario kart track
These are great! You should do Golden Eye or DK64 next!
If I have to give any criticism, it would be to change the formula a bit in cases where there are only a few options like with the battle tracks, as right now there are comically large and tiny scores. Great video though, I love the concept.
