Hi Jared, having been a body guy since the 70's I just wanted to point out a couple of things for your journey into the wonderful world of metal alignment, first the most important gap on your build to get right from the start is the bottom of the door to the sill/rocker panel as a horizontal base, second is when you disassemble around your rear wheel arches while the car is under load the horizontal forces go up so your trunk will go down at the front edge, if you add a spacer under the 2 front hinge bolts it will help you line up what I could see as misalignment from the parcel shelf back. Hammer it until your happy with the gaps.
Knowing when to stop is not only OK, it's absolutely vital for a successful completion. Relax, take a deep breath, it will still be there when you're ready. Building your dream car takes work, but man is it worth it! Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁

19:43 I checked a few pictures, and those seams are still visible on restored and original models. likely they are seam sealed, but they are still visible. Making yours look solid would definitely make it one of a kind. Great video, thanks for sharing.

I’m excited to follow this build Jared , but you really need a few dozen small vice grip” C”clamps and some clico’s for this type of fitting to make it go together faster and easier! Then once it’s in place you can self tapping screw it!

Whenever I do DIY and force it, it never goes right, knowing when your tired or something is not right and understanding the need to stop and step back is an amazing ability. Really hope somebody comes through for your with the measurements for you? Do the guys that you bought the panels from have the original measurements? Maybe if they have the boot lid (trunk lid) measurements it would be something to work off? Love all your videos dude
Im sorry, but I laughed like i was in middle school again when you said your "glass hole" was right but there was "something really wrong in my rear end". I love your passion for this project. Because of you and a few others here on TH-cam once im financially able I think I'll have the confidence to cut out all the rust from my dads old truck and replace the sheet metal.
Totally think you should fill that seam on the sail panel. I love that clean look. Only concern is, will a weld crack when the body flexes the correct way to do it, is to fill it with lead.
The big body lines that were originally welded I plan to go back with lead, or the modern version of it! The welded trunk extension I think would run the risk of bending before cracking
Keep it real. It’s great watching through the journey. Also I like the switch up on jobs just to keep the variety. It’s probably great for you to be able to step back and take a break from just one thing.
Jared, this is great content. As a Mopar guy with an E-body and A-body, I've always been afraid to tackle bodywork myself. Your approach and teaching style has given me much more confidence in attempting to do some of this work myself. Keep up the good work, and keep on showing the good, the bad, and the ugly side of building a car.

I remember back in the 1980s when even the most hardcore Mopar guys would've said that your car was beyond hope to start with. And now, you can almost build a new car with reproduction panels, with enough patience. You're doing great work, Jared!! Also, do you have someone you can borrow a straight trunk lid from to check with? I have a sneaking suspicion that your back end is all wavy at least partly because of that wonky trunk lid.
@@TheQuestionableGarage Just remember that these cars were sometimes more than an inch out of square coming off the line... Ive utilized floor pots and tiedowns more than once! LOL! That doesn't mean be sloppy, just don't get paralyzed. It's gonna be great!
Love the progress, such commitment to do all the metal fab work!! Only one thing i would have done is installing the rear window mechs while the rear quarter was still off think that would save a whole lot of hassle 😅
I've seen people blueprint engines before, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone blueprint a body! I'm just praying that no one scratches it when you finish.
Hey Jared also do yourself a favor and buy a Milwaukee M12 band file you’ll love it for doing this type of work! And for fun you should try your hand at leading the roof joint after you weld it 💪🏻👍🏻
You did exactly the right thing! It would bug you forever if the lines weren't right between the quarter and the trunk lid. Congratulations on being out of your comfort zone (that's the best place to learn) and far enough through the Dunning Kruger curve to know that you don't know something important. It's guaranteed someone out there has an undamaged original car to take some measurements from, or those factory specs and manuals you need. Hopefully they're watching the video, but they'll be receptive I'm sure to helping out a genuine enthusiast. Maybe the panel manufacturer has specs? It might be worth reaching out to check. They have to get their info from somewhere!
You spoke some words of wisdom there at the end of the video. When it comes to rear ends, you never want to just force it. Especially if you have never done it before. Make sure you have plenty of install lube, be gentle, and take your time. In all seriousness I really enjoy the content. I enjoy the stuff with your puppy dog too. I am also a dog person, and it lets me know your good people. I don’t know if it was your decision or just done in editing, but incorporating the barks into the music was pretty cool.

Love the car and the care you're talking to get it right. I did notice the trunk looked like it had a hump in it that didn't match the contour of the quarters. It looks to me like the quarters are correct, and maybe the trunk has been damaged at some point in its life.
Depends on how original you want to keep it. Going really original, use seam sealer, just going for the look totally laser weld it and get rid of that seam it would look pardon the pun seamless
Totally understand that feeling of knowing when u need to take a break. With our Ferrari project I have needed to do this many times. Actually should have done this more than I have...not stopping caused me to mess up the E brake system which is still an issue. Great stuff enjoy the real feel of your content.

I know that this is a Plymouth Satellite (I am a Plymouth MOPAR guy myself [and you are basically rebuilding my absolute dream car], my 1st MOPAR was a 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus) and not a Dodge Charger. They are both B body cars, and thus share similar measurements. Your BEST bet would be contacting Chris Birdsong (Junkerup) and ask if he has any words of wisdom for you. Hints/tips/tricks in this particular situation would be his specialty. Best of luck to you, I'm absolutely loving this series/build, and am following with great anticipation.
Where is Chris birdsong when you need him, I know the pre-weld jitters I test fitted the back of my Cuda over 10 times and I built street rods for 25 years. Doing everything from firewall to tail panel was a lot of fitment on the Cuda. You're doing a great job.

The 1970 B Body is my favorite Mopar all time. I own 3 Mopars 65,67,69. Darts and a Belvedere

When I did the floor on the duster, I had to drill all the cross brace holes after ripping the seam with the puncher… I was sad

Where is Chris birdsong when you need him, I know the pre-weld jitters I test fitted the back of my Cuda over 10 times and I built street rods for 25 years. Doing everything from firewall to tail panel was a lot of fitment on the Cuda. You're doing a great job.
