Can you imagine being in a band, and weeks before your 1st big tour you realize that you need a drummer. You hold auditions and some kid named Neil Peart walks in. Its like hitting the freakin lottery. ❤️

Apparently he showed up in a Pinto with drums just crammed in there any way they could fit. He sets up and they start jamming. They noted he was really freaking loud, didn't talk much but could adapt to what they threw at him...
That band went from good to legends with Neil .. and he needed two guys who would be pushed by him and yet they all meshed as friends
Up until I became a Rush fan I always found drum solos to be boring. But Neil's solos had such a compositional sense to them that I couldn't help but love them. And this song itself is such a fantastic instrumental. They always had so much fun with this. As always, fantastic work Sir!
And that's why I like Neil better than John Bonham.
So much this. Drum solos were just a chance to fatigue my ears until I heard Neil's...Mind you I was already in love with his drumming. Exit Stage Left just blew my mind away as to what a drum solo *could* be!
The Professor on the drum kit. And then he went and completely changed his style. A true master.
I’ve been a drummer most of my life and of course Neil Peart is in my top three all time incredible drummers. His speed is absolutely incredible and he’s also melodic with everything but he has such independence with every hand and foot I could not even come close to his incredible competence love hearing him. Let’s not forget that he wrote almost all the lyrics to most of their songs for at least the first decade or two what an intelligent human being I’ll miss them for the rest of my life.

Drums were out of this world but I did love those bass riffs on the stops by Geddy. Also great.
I was at all three nights when they recorded the Show of hands video (Birmingham NEC, UK) probably my favourite gigs of all the times I’ve seen Rush, and also got Geddy to sign my program.
This is one of my favorite concerts of theirs. The production was heavenly

I saw him do this live in 86. Greatest concert next maiden in 84. Both are equal in my books for my best concert ever.
When I bought my first Rush album in 1980, I was glued. Thanks for the upload.
I saw this tour, Jan. '88, people were looking at Peart during the drum solo the same way people were looking at Jimi Hendrix in 69 Woodstock playing The Star spangled banner with their mouth wide open like what in the world!!

For my money, this is Neil's best solo video performance on YT. (it's abridged, edited for time constraints of a VHS tape).
IMO best live version of YYZ is live at Rio. No drum solo, but an amazing live performance

This solo was done in his younger years and has a younger stack of phrases than his R-30.
I say it has an explosive charm, all its own.
That bass is indeed a Wal. He went through a Wal phase (and a short Steinberger phase) for a while. I believe (and someone keep me honest) that he used Wal basses on Power Windows and on Hold Your Fire. The Steinberger was used just before the Wal on the Signals tour and on Grace Under Pressure. He liked the Steinberger live because not having a headstock meant he was less likely to bang it into something. But after recording with the Wal and getting good results, he ended up using the Wal live as well.
This video was from the A Show of Hands DVD/VHS from back in the 80's. They look so young!

Have not seen this version in awhile. Remarkably clean/precise even by Rush standards!
Listen to these Ludwig Super Classics. First tour Neil used them on. None of his other kits even sound close to as good as far as live sound. I was so impressed with them after hearing them live on this tour that I bought a huge set of Super Classics a couple years later(sizes....6,8,10,12,13,16,18,22 bass drum) and still have them to this day. This particular shell is almost impossible to find now. Even on Ebay. At least a full set that is.
David Letterman had a drum week and Neil was the finale. Search it up. Was really good.
This is my second favorite Neil Peart Solo!!!!! The Professor's best solo ever,is off of the (Exit Stage Left!) But apparently there's no good footage coverage on it!!

Alex had changed his guitar and tone a bit he said to cut thru the greater synth sound.
Geddy's bass was new here from Richenbacker, to stick bass on Grace Under Pressure, to this one.

How you could have a drum kit that sounds this good in 1988 and then have that atrocity he played on the R40 tour is completely beyond me. Did he, his drum tech and everyone in the band go completely deaf at some point?!
Finally!!!! Someone else with the brains and courage to comment upon how atrocious the R40 DW's sounded (particularly the concert toms on the replica kit.
I hate to think it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Neil didn't give a shit because he hated touring and every show on R40 was one closer to being finished. I stood at the monitor console in Vancouver for soundcheck, all you could hear was the drum kit (due to everyone wearing in ears and having no amps); they sounded ok, the high point of his later kits was his Paragon cymbals, which sounded amazing and sat in the mix beautifully from anywhere in the venue.
DW's are garbage; the only reason anyone uses them is because they are free and DW will kiss any artist's asshole, not just the ass.
Having said this, my favorite kit is still the rosewood Tama Superstars, his best looking and sounding kit. I wonder, if the production on ESL hadn't been so lazy, what that kit REALLY sounded like live.
The tuning on this kit is phenomenal; I doubt any other live drummer can match Neil's ear and touch. And I think Larry Allen was still his tech, not that fckin wanker coc*sucker Lorne Wheaton, the biggest fvkin poser coc*sucker roadie on the planet.
This era they tended to play most of their songs at a bit up-tempo (as crazy as that may be...)...just for a challenge I believe.

Actually in Canada it's pronounced YYZed. After the Pearson Toronto airport. In the United States fans say YYZ. Which is fine. Geddy Lee talked about this in an interview. It's okay to say YYZ in U.S.

I asked StickHits and he said he was specifically trying to get new people into RUSH, and is cool with people using his remastered versions for reactions. I’m not sure about other parties.
I am merely a curator of Rush's historical archive and I encourage anyone and everyone to use my uploads in any way they like, plus I didn't exactly get permission from Rush to remaster them so I have no right to dictate where they end up :)
I'm glad the Wal era was just a phase for Geddy and it was short-lived. The Wal bass is just too plinky and rubbery sounding. His best bass tones was with the Fender Jazz and Rickenbackers, grunty biting aggressive tone with attitude.

Rush are bad*ss not dorks. Neil Peart is considered one of the greatest drummers if not the greatest. Rush is an amazing band. Each are highly talented and extremely proficient on their instruments. Yet nothing was said about them. As far as this resction..very disappointed. No enthusiasm, just shakes his head all the way through like a bobblehead. No excitement.. nothing. Like watching paint dry. Not only that he offended the band and fans by calling them "dorks". Worst reaction I have ever seen. Maybe react to much easier bands than Rush.
You're delusional. First of all... THEY ARE DORKS. Total dorks. Do you know what band we're talking about here? Next... this is a drum solo. If I were a drummer maybe yeah I'd be all over this guys chops or something, but I've seen half a dozen or more of his solos (I've now done their entire discography, studio and about to finish live)... Drum solos are not exciting to me. Songs are. And they have many incredible songs and albums. Some things are just a given at this point. Like Neil is one of the best rock drummers ever. Why do I need to say that in every video. You want me to say Neil is the best rock drummer in my over 600 Rush Reaction videos?! Get a clue dude.
