During my first year of keeping koi I lost two fish due to bacteria infection - fed up with netting them and treating with propolis or even tricide neo - did not work!! I then found Virkon and at treble strength twice per week (50% water change in between) - after two treatments the fish ulcers started to heal on their own! I’ve since been using Virkon on weekly basis I do 10g per 1000 gallons followed by at least 20% water change. I buy the 10KG box Virkon lasts forever. Namo Amituofo
As a microbial biochemist with 30 years experience and 25 years keeping koi, this product concerns me hugely on a professional level when advertised for use in a pond. It is however a fantastic sterilising agent. The ecosystem of a healthy pond is finely balanced and includes more than just the Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter species in a filter i.e species other than the simple heterotrophic pathogens are also essential for pond/fish health. What I am now seeing is people using this when their fish have bacterial infections, with a tendency to add more when the fish doesnt show sign of recovery. With the utmost respect this video gives dangerous information when people do not have the understanding to use it in the way you propose (which I also disgree with). For dealers the situation is always different e.g heavy use of salt as a preventative or recovery treatment for imported stressed fish, which shouldnt be the norm in a hobbyist's pond. May be if you get the dose just right in the hands of a dealer it could be useful, but this is just the wrong advice to be giving the koi keeping industry as a pond sanitiser. It makes no sense from a bacteriological perspective as a way to maintain a healthy pond environment for fish. With respect it sounds like an advert to sell a product outside of its design space. I expect you will delete this comment although I hope not. Perhaps we could discuss more?
@Bobby Knox no but I have seen it promoted for such. It should never be used in a pond for any reason whatsoever except sterilisation. The product is completely non selective. There is more to a balanced ecosystem than often implied. It's not just about the filter bugs Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter and anything else is bad. Many other bacteria also contribute to a balanced community. Chucking Virkon in the pond at any level to do anything at all will hit all bacteria and targeting fish pathogens is impossible. If you have Aeromonas infecting your fish you have a pond environment problem and it needs to be properly resolved. Some idea that Virkon is an appropriate way to address this is entirely flawed, but I am seeing it advertised for this purpose. It's scary and irresponsible. It's pretty much the same as saying add potassium permanganate to reduce bacterial load etc. Completely bonkers!
but if it helps save a koi that has a bacterial infection whats the problem if you have a koi with an ulcer or rot then you know you have a problem an have to deal with it and if by adding these tablets helps the fish whilst ur doing so then i dont see why ur moaning

I have been using that for years, brilliant stuff. I do mine monthly and don't pay 30 quid for it either lol. Great upload mate, stay safe & well.
Does this product have any effect on Carp Pox?
I don’t think it does.

If you give Keith a shout at Koi water barn. I’m sure he will advise you of safety levels.

Well said. It's definitely not a treatment for a bacterial infection for your koi.
