People must remember that virkon aquatic is a water treatment and not a koi treatment, it was developed specifically for aquaculture where as lots of treatments widely used by koi keepers like malachite, acriflavine, pp etc were not, they were adapted for use in pond's and aquariums, and variations in dosing is widespread, which in most cases is accepted, but there are exceptions for example pp overdose with this and you will have no fish left! And in defence of manufacturers they have industry guidelines which must be adhered to in order to manufacture/distribute the medications 👍
Very interesting watch Dave. I have to say you have pushed the boundaries this time.😂 When your back is against the wall with sick koi, when you have tried everything, and you have the balls to try it. Anything is worth arty in my opinion. I have long thought all treatments (As directed by manufacturers.) do not seem as effective as they used to be. I suspected the manufacturers were covering their backs as to overdosing and fish deaths. I think what you have done is a very positive move. I personally would have given the fish a year before letting it out though, just in case you have a problem with the fish. Keep pushing the boundaries, you get my vote.👏
Like you, I’ve been having a bacterial issue this year and nothing was working for me. So I was hunting around for something other than Virkon, after trying it at the dosage on the pack. I spoke to the guy at Koi Water Garden to find out about a product on his website. He told me Virkon is the best thing to use, but at the correct dosage. On there website is the best information out there about Virkon. Dosage depends on water softness/hardness, my Affinity water is classed as very hard, so according to the table on the info, I needed 34 tablets for a full dose and 17 for the half dose. The guy hold me you can’t really do any damage to your fish with Virkon. I would recommend everyone having a look at Koi Water Gardens, koi health web pages, very informative. Hope your fish recover, stay safe and well 👍🏻
What was the final outcome, did they recover fully ? And did you see any overdose issues later on? Thanks for posting this, it was really interesting. 👍
I had watched this a few months back. And remembered the saying about you can't overdose. Now I can say you can. I did a 10x dose and the pond frothed up so much very quick (I think from the airbar), the fish suffocated and they all died. So be warned. You can overdose if your pond might make a lot of bubbles.
Brave man, I commend you for undertaking this test but sound like you’ve hit the nail on the head…….manufacturers are saving their own arses and selling us more products at the expense of out fish health by vastly under prescribing their medication😡🤬😡. This has been the suspicion for some time but the argument is definitely gathering strength of late. I will be giving this some serious though the next time I need to put medication in my pond. Thank you for sharing 👍😊
Interesting Davey. I don't know personally whether I would be brave enough to dose at that rate, more for the fact I don't know enough about it. But the fact is ANY company, not just in koi treatment manufacturing but businesses as a whole, will always put their best interests at heart to protect their brand and keep the investors happy. That's done by T&C's, disclaimers, or in this case, possibly intentionally under dosing treatment amounts. The only thing is then if you go against these guidelines obviously you have no comeback. But myself personally I will always research what others have had success doing, and weigh up the good against the bad effects, if any.👍
I've been contemplating buying this product after seeing so many other experienced fish / pond keepers on y tube. Recommend it and how thay apply it to there ponds . Thanks for your opinion on this
bloody interesting, I'm having bacterial issues in QT, been dosing 1 tablet to 500 gallons with no improvement going to try 4 next dose, d you think that's enough and would pp not kill more bacteria?
Your money calculation is wrong, following directions makes it cheaper overdosing is more expensive. That said may need more doses but would it work out equal, I think a little at shorter frequency may be the answer and most cost effective
Hi ian , it wasnt anout the cost on this video , it was more to illustrate the fact that Virkon can be used in excess of the recommended dose rates . 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Not that I'd admit it on TH-cam but I've been over dosing on all medications for the past 5 years including fluke treatments, fmg's, alparex, etc.. and has always worked for me 👍
Makes you think !! I think manufacturers are to scared to give proper dosing rates and we end up with minimal dosing rates goin into the pond and then not hitting the parasites hard enough and we’re still having to treat again ,treatment is expensive enough without having to keep buying it ,and you end up putting more of a strain on your koi because of more treatments ,rather then jus hitting them hard 1st time round and then it’s done and dusted !! Fair play for having the bottle to try that amount of treatment !! Hopefully it all works out for you 👍
Never used virkon buddy but have always used salt weekly in all my ponds and people tell me salts no good for koi blah blah blah but never had issues . If it works for you good , if these manufacturers gave us the proper doses then we wouldn’t need to keep buying bottle after bottle of medication but then they wouldn’t make as much money would they 😉😉

Yes, absolutely
Thanks, keep the videos coming, best on TH-cam

Hi buddy , i saw no issues at all with using a massive fose of virkon and the fish hardly batted an eyelid. 👌👍👍👍
Did it have a positive effect on the Koi?
It did slightly especially as the salt dropped to around .4 they seemed a lot happier .

Just take fluke treatment prazi has gone from 2% to 1% over recent years

Been using it a while it's awesome stuff. On 3 times the dose it kills carp pox in a few days on minor flare ups. Keeps everything mint 👌

I've been using it for a year now after a mate recommended virkon, it is a water treatment that works at killing bacteria and does it well 👍👍👍
I've done 22 tablets I 5500 gallons with no ill effects
