I miss the S.A.V.E boxsets, I used to pick up 3 series under 50$. It just aint the same no more
I feel you. You could get some damn good anime on the cheap. I remember grabbing all 4 seasons of Initial D at my local Hastings for 20 bucks apiece.
What?! They aren't doing this anymore?
@@thehugeanimefanpodcast Budget titles are a thing of the past now. They died with the Funimations essentials line.
7:26 digital only is definitely a red flag. Especially if it becomes delisted from Netflix Crunchyroll or vudu max from Warner Bros, Aniplex USA sentai filmworks and old viz media titles
Also an anime physical collector like you. Makes me miss the Right Stuf model more. Feeling like us physical Media collectors are becoming dinosaurs.
It was folded into Crunchyroll.
@@DennisTamayo I know. Unfortunately, Right Stuf was the better business.
I've been contemplating buying the JP BluRays for 86, since I've given up hope that CR will ever release them here and that is a series I want to have a physical copy of.
I feel bad for people who collect season box sets, I always wait for the complete series just to be safe. I use to pickup VHS episodes of DBZ at Walmart back in the day and then I quickly realized it wasn't possible.
3:28 yes I noticed that too . Crunchyroll used to partner with viz media sentai filmworks and occasionally discotek media etc but nowadays it's very rare aside from some current ongoing shows like attack on Titan Final season part 2, MHA season 6 pt 1 and Dragon ball super etc but newer seasons you'll have to import or deal with the non home media treatment 😢😢😢
I understand why Crunchyroll isn't excited about physical releases. Buying habits have changed and most people now only buy movies and maybe their favorite shows (I'm somewhat guilty of this myself). This means that Boy and the Heron Blu-rays and Demon Slayer boxsets will sell, but Battle Athletes Victory Restart discs would probably be tough to move. Still, if Crunchyroll doesn't want to be in that business, it would be nice if they could sub-license the home video rights to their titles to another company that thinks they could make it work.
I can't believe To Your Eternity and Tokyo Revengers still aren't on blu-ray..... I desperately want to own them but they don't want my money..
To Your Eternity got a digital release from viz media in January so should get a blu ray release at some point
Those are both shows that came out before the CR and Funi merger.
And since CR had no home video department at the time, they probably never licensed those shows for blu-ray distribution, only for streaming.
@@danielalmeida7382 it looks like Viz Media is going to release them now
Cruchyroll actually DID make a blu ray for chainsaw man but only in the eu and Australia
This merger only helped Sony. Funimation was the better streaming/BD Corp. Yes, moving with your collection sucks but losing access to a title that you love (or were watching) from 1 day to the next sucks more.
"You will own nothing ans be happy"
They want you on the hook for subscription services for ever where they can get continual revanue and continually raise the price.
Well they can suck it then no offense but I'll either buy physical have my friend in Japan keep his eyes open for what I want and ship it to me or just pirate it only reason I enjoyed. Streaming was watch anime on the go but I don't even do that now
I'll just watch for free honestly not worth it and buy phisical media if it exists on Black Friday Sales ect
I've noticed that CR and physical media has become a problem. I suspect that like all streaming services, CR would rather folks just watch anime on their service and not produce physical media. Disney learned that they needed to stop leaving money on the table and start putting out some of their streaming stuff on physical media. Amazon finally put out all of The Expanse on physical media.
I think that could be part of it but also most people are not buying physical media anyway. For Sony probably does not make sense to release so many titles every month when they know these anime DVDs/Blu-rays are not going to move much. It would be financially irresponsible. Especially since Covid I think people have more important priorities. Not only that it makes more sense for the general public to rent their titles and for them to continue spending money when they do that than outright owning something which other than that initial moment of purchase they will not make more money from their titles.
@thehugeanimefanpodcast right they aren't going to go all in physical right now especially as they are backing out of the physical games market as we speak
It's a digital age, what'd you expect. The vast majority of customers have gone full digital in 2024. Not saying that's a good thing, just how it is. I'm one of the few nuts who still colects physical copies of movies/shows. But guess what we're a dying breed. Coupled with the fact Crunchyroll is basically the Netflix of anime and has always had a TERRIBLE track record of releasing shows physically and instead holding them hostage digitally you can't be too surprised. Hell I'm STILL waiting on blujrays of Kuroko's Basketball and Hybrid Heart.
I feel you, I have a decent physical media collection for cds, vinyls, anime, movies and etc.. i def perfer physical media !
It's probably cause they give less and demand more money. I wait for box sets or deals. Always have same with sentai
I BARELY buy much anime, only time I get some is there Clerance. bought two titles I had save for a whole year during chrunchyroll black friday sales.
This is how I buy as well on sales but hey I still buy stuff
since sony bought them both. I just call them sony at this point. Another thing, there is no word of reprint of certain series. Causing them to resell for $$$
This be where this is headed… soon they gonna jack the prices on physical anime up (more than it is now)… then you ain’t gonna see certain shows available… then they gonna be stream only.
I think the reason why most of these titles haven’t had a physical release is because they aired before the merger. Before the merger crunchyroll didn’t do many physical releases & instead offered the physical license of shows to other companies like sentai.
I picked up the first season of the seven deadly sins on blu ray but it seems that's all there's going to be
Well, to be fair Chainsaw Man just aired/streamed in 2022. I think 2 years is more reasonable of a home video release time-frame but I think you are right that it was better in the FUNimation days. Sony should have never gotten rid of FUNimation. Crunchyroll should of just stayed as anime streaming and FUNimation should have handled home video distribution as is their strong suit. FUNimation branding on the physical releases looked better than Crunchyroll branding. Them wanting to make everything Crunchyroll does not appeal to me. They should have been kept separate underneath Sony's ownership.
Exactly I don't understand why the merger
I support physical media
It's chruncyroll, what do you expect. They have been disappointing for the longest being corrupt. Also, they have a monopoly on anime now, which makes them greedy and stupid.
For real even right stuff like they got right stuff why?!
The essentials and classics were the best.
UPDATE: Crunchyroll unveiled their home video release slate for May, and it's BIG! One Piece, Konosuba Explosion, Dr Stone, Mob Psycho, Uzaki, etc
I've heard that even DBZ Kai blu rays and DVDs are going out of print. Looks like Crunchyroll no longer gives a damn about home releases
I feel you. The pace of home video releases has slowed to a crawl. I'm still waiting for 86 to be released on disc.
I feel like part of this is due to the merger. Stuff like that is time-consuming. I'm guessing most Funi's/Crunchy's energy was focused on that
I will just not watch those titles if they don't release a physical releases. Or import get a region free player if you can. Still waiting for Don't Toy With Me Miss Nagatorro and Chainsaw Man. It seems like they are trying to force Streaming. Also I don't sub to any streaming services at all.
something that i really hate about Crunchyroll and Viz Media's releases is that they never include the spanish dub; the only way to watch animes like DBZ, Ranma ½, Sailor Moon, GS Mikami, Spy X Family and many others in spanish is either on pirate websites or on streaming (if they even have them)
What the heck going on come on now 😒!
nice video. i don't collect physical movies/tv shows/anime etc, no space. but i know many do. nice playstation cup.
All we're going to see now is the heavy hitters getting physical releases now and all the other older popular titles like Code Geass will be gated behind ridiculously expensive collectors editions.
hello black togashi
i used to buy
but storage is an issue people dont talk about
especially if you have to move
Why start at 2020? I'm still waiting for a North American physical release of Gabriel DropOut from winter 2017. I can't believe such a memeable anime (for Satanichia in particular) still hasn't gotten a physical release, I'd even take a DVD-only release if it came down to it.
On the list shown, The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! from summer 2021 is the potential physical release I want the most. That one even got a English dub (unlike Gabriel Dropout).
I want Star Blazers s1 but it's sold out forever
I wonder if we will get a Attack on Titan Complete Series box set 🙏
The annyoing part is that licenses expire because they don't last that long and if there is no physical media it becomes lost media if you don't pirate.
Streaming is taking over physical dvd/blu ray. Welcome to the 21st Century. I still buy dvd and blu ray. I even watch Toonami on Cartoon Network. That way, if i like the a series, I can buy it on dvd and/or blu ray. I even miss Funimation booth at anime conventions and buy from them. They stopped coming since the late 2000s-present. I like having dvds and blu ray, because I enjoy watching the interviews w/voice actors, commentaries, trailers, etc. I have been buying dvd since 2002 after VHS was discontinued. With streaming, you only get the series. Period.
Uzaki chan 2 and Nagatoro 2 and Tagaki san 3 and I think Komi san and Bocchi the Rock are on BD.
Time for "HIGH DIVE" !
I am still waiting for the Vinland Saga Season 2 Blu-ray. 😢
The unfortunate thing about what will happen with Funimation is that it's streaming service is Shutting down this April.
It's quite strange to me... CR/Funimation is now owned by Sony IIRC. Sony literally owns Blu Ray as a technology and are enriched by its continued existence. I'm really surprised they have not pushed from above to get more series released, even if for shorter production runs. With Sony also taking over blu ray distribution for Disney in North America, seems like they are just leaving a large swath of animation fandom money on the table. I do not use streaming services. I just don't. If something is not available to buy and support officially, I will go through other means 🏴☠️. My preference is to support well made blu rays with high bitrate and lossless audio.
For myself, I am still waiting on a blu ray release of Space Battleship Yamato 2205. I don't even want/need the English dub to be created, just release the blu ray 😤
I say its kind of hard because things are changing AI voice acting many things are affecting the release market. Not saying physical is not going away but a lot of us collectors are getting old and the new generations are interested in certain anime.
Should be interesting to see what happens next
I'm surprised about Chainsaw Man because it's been released in the UK with no problem.
This explains why I don't own 86
whens the OP song hitting spotify?
Sony is one messed up company. They keep doing this. This is now three years in a row that they keep removing digital content that people own. It is not right at all we need laws to protect us against this kind of stuff.
Yep, still waiting for Chainsawman. 🤨
Rent a Girlfriend and Rezero 2 are the newest releases.
they just need to call it crunchyroll that,s it noting else man i hate that man how u been doing man hope u doing well man i been working lately and working real hard lately but im off today relaxing now.
Diskotek and viz our only hope
why don't Crunchyroll and Funimation JUST MERGE ALREADY? they merged the shop so what's the point of having two different services?
If I want to get physical releases of Anime, I just get the Manga version instead,
