Wow, this is awesome. Every process you listed here is what I'm working on to break 80, including the punch shot with the 3-wood technique. I played a 3-wood on hole 18 last weekend. It was 245 yds against 18mph wind, my ball rolled right up to the front of the green. I still scored 82 because of a few of the double bogies. Your video validates my focus techniques so I know now I'm heading in the right direction. Thank you very much!

I keep shooting 80 or in the low 80s. Just broken 80 once. It’s a grind. Thanks for the tips; hope to use them and break 80.

Great video. I always seem close to the "80" mark. My new goals are to keep the drive in the fairway more often. I usually save pars by getting a good chip onto the green, or making a putt, so this video fit me perfectly. Thanks for the great tips!

Jim, thanks for the simple approach to these golf shots. My problem is short putts, how do I gain some confidence in making a better % of these shots?

Right now I shoot anywhere from low 90s to high 80s, my best round being an 85. I lose tons of strokes with my approach shots anywhere from 80-110 yards. A typical par 4 for me goes like this, 3 wood right down the middle. 100 yards in I chunk my second shot so I have about 60 yards left, finally get the ball on the green and then 2 putt for a bogey. It happens on basically every par 4 when I use my wedge, 56 degree, or lob wedge. From longer distances I'm better but still my iron game is what is holding back from getting below that 85 mark. Any one have any tips for me?

I can't break 90 yet because I am not consistent with the strokes hence I don't really now my distances.

Greens are typically 20-30 yards deep. Just get a close ballpark and don't aim for flags but aim for middle of the green!

Two put every hole and you'll break 80. That was my fix. Also, don't completely blow a hole with a wildly bad shot. One snowman on the score card can destroy a good score. Play smart and let common sense dictate the way to play a hole. It makes no sense to go for the green in two on a par 5. Set yourself up to score well, not impress your partner with a brilliant shot (that usually goes in the water). And lastly, play all of the time. Honestly, you could be dead tomorrow so play golf today! That's my motto.

I find that whenever I put too much pressure NOT to 3 putt, inevitably, I will. Agree 100% on keeping bad holes only up to a bogey. A double must be the absolute worst that can happen. For me, keeping the ball in play is the primary strategy, even if it means a 50/50 chance for par, its still better than gambling and ending up with a large no. I was on a streak of 11 straight sub 80 rounds (best 74 to worst 79) - and I lost it yesterday. Shot 38 on the front, triple bogeyed the 10th, doubled the 11th and ended up with a 43 at the back. When I looked back and analyzed the round, I found those two holes cost me dearly. Should have laid up and instead ended up in the drink. TWICE. But that's golf - time to get a new streak going. :-)

good video. I watched Phil Mickelson's short game video and he said the ball needs to be on your back foot when chipping unless flopping it up in the air. Basically never in the middle.

Nick Dear really comes down to what works for you. I used to put the ball in the middle maybe a bit closer back but mostly middle.. hit the ball good. took a break from golf. And recently got into it again. Started to shank wedge shots (which were my bread and butter) found TH-cam and played around in the back yard etc. I found PHILS videos. And now I’m really consistent inside 100 yards. with some practice I can throw darts on the green Using the back in stance method :)
