Its great to listen to Simon in a different band, yet his sound still unique. No keyboards at all, does anybody can confirm Mathew Hartley was an actual member of the band?
He was actually in The Cry which was a band before reforming into Fools Can Dance and finally into Fools Dance prior to Mathieu leaving the group. So you cannot hear the keyboard proper.

Great songs, correct me if I'm wrong, but this was a 5 member band 2 of which were former members of The Cure at that time. One of which (Simon Gallup) who returned and married Porl's sister. Matthieu left because he didn't like the depressing change to the music such as Pornography and later the iconic Disintegration. Simon recently left The Cure although the precise reason isn't clear.
Porl, Matthieu and Simon were all ex-Cure. I think matt left after 17 seconds because he didn’t like the minimal sounds Robert wanted. Porl left early on and came back for the Top to Disintegration and then back again here and there! Simon rejoined for Head on the Door and stayed apart from a few months out this year. 1983 was a tough time for the Cure, with Robert suffering exhaustion and things came to a head on the Pornography tour, which is when Simon left. However, Robert made a shed load of music around this time; The Top, the Japanese Whispers singles, The Glove and Hyaena with the Banshees!

I’m pretty sure that you’ve already heard about a 80’s - 90’s Dutch band called The Essence. Although they deserve an important creative credit on their own, I love to listen to their records imagining they’re lost The Cure albums I’ve never heard before. Their sound, aesthetic and Hans Diener’s voice is so close to Robert Smith’s that helps a lot to wait patiently for a new The Cure album.
I read last year it was a kind of ready, they just had to do some more mixing/fine-tuning you name it. Will almost definitely be the last, so I think he aims for absolute perfection. The longer we wait, the more disappointed we might be, but I seriously doubt that. I tried the Essence over-time, not my thing, they don't stick. But I will give them another try, not cause I like Lemon Pie ;-D
