This is soo pretty and just perfect for January...no snow outside but a little hint inside! I love the crispness of white after the busyness of the festive weeks. As always, thank you both 😘 xx
Lovely work. This arrangement would look good for a wedding surrounding a punch bowl or a cake pedestal, or even as a floral tribute on a stand for a funeral. First funeral casket spray I did as a new floral designer was for a premature infant. Tiny pink roses and gypsophila. I cried all the way thru making it. It was very pretty, and the poor parents were pleased, but just heartbreaking.
Maryann Lane what a sad story but a beautiful choice for a floral tribute. We really do have to create designs for all events, happy and sad. You helped the parents at a terrible time. 😞
I just posted a comment but think I did it for a different video lol! Anyway, what a beautiful lace-like wreath. Simple and elegant. I love it. Great to see you back after the Christmas holiday.
I wonder John, if you could possibly depict in design and describe vanitas? I ask because I find this beautiful and also because a level 5 florist who lives close to me posted some pictures of some particular work she had done whilst on a London based workshop. It was incredible yet I spotted the theme straight away although it had been slightly tweaked. I think vanitas conveys truth, life cycle and beauty in a nutshell. I'm always looking for a message and this is mine. I may not be very articulate in my reasons of request but I believe vanitas speaks for itself. PS, wouldn't mind I'm not even a working florist merely a qualified one but can imagine you doing this absolute justice.
Clare Perkins hello! Thank you for watching and for your suggestion. I shall add that to our list of possible future videos. I really like them as well - especially for bridal work, so that is a good suggestion. Thank you and keep watching 😀🙋🏼♂️
This is quite beautiful, John. I happen to be really fond of wreaths. I only wish I were more fond of gyp. Perhaps you will make a convert out of me?! I always appreciate your suggestions and especially your style. Thank you!
As always, you have produced something truly beautiful, thank you for sharing. Are you planning to move away from plastics more in 2020 John? Do you think such a decision would, for most of us, also mean learning to adapt our style to suit different, more sustainable frames?
Plants From BA9 that is a really good question and we will take that on board. From a commercial point of view there is a certain customer demand but it needs to work in with the designs they expect and with the products available within the industry. There are a lot of aspects that work together. But adaption is the key, as well as talking to customers , giving options and selling those sustainable items where we can. 😀🙋🏼♂️
Ooooo...pretty! I love the white-on-white. It reminds me of embossed, textured paper (can you tell I worked in printing and publishing for years?) ;0) THANK YOU for giving "baby's breath" a beautiful revival.
So fluffy! You did outer edge then inner edge. If I was to do it with 2 colors then I should go in rows? At one of my stores they sell pastel colors so fresh gyp.
You could do rows , but there is no set way if using two colours. It would be great to shade from one colour to white or a different colour maybe? I woukd go simple with two colours - an outer ring and an inner ring rather than stripes, or you could do alternatíve sections?
marion mcginn you could get a couple of uses out of it, and with a plastic based ring you could re-foam it to reuse. This works in a home setting, but commercially it is single use by its very nature. Personally I keep everything 😆 can reuse, adapt or get creative 😀
Beautiful. I thought for a precious baby funeral as its baby's breath and really simple and pure. A question John do you never cut all the stems together ready in advance you make me dizzy and maybe that would be quicker? Thank you perfect as always 💗
Thank you! I do cut the double chrysanthemum heads in advance sometimes - they are fine. I suppose I don’t like the idea of them being cut and out of water for any length of time. If in a real hurry you can get someone helping buy cutting while you make the item - that really works 😀🙋🏼♂️🌼
Hi John. Lovely arrangement. I am going to attempt something like this for my Daughter’s wedding. But a long version for the top table but with roses. How long can it be made in advance please? Thank you.
I would say yes - especially the calla, as they are easier to insert with no other material getting in the way. The roses you could do it either way as the stems are strong enough to insert easily into gyp already there. 😊
LOVE IT. This is a GREAT new start for 2020. Clutter free !!! I always say: LESS IS MORE. This is beautiful. [ To think: I cannot stand "GYP" - Thinking I might change my mind... :) ]
Welcome back John, I see you have your green shirt on! 😉 Hoping you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.. What have you in store for us in 2020! What ever it is I am sure it will be amazing. Oh by the way this arrangement is stunning as always 😊
Ann Seadon thank you! Yes the green top is fine - it’s my Christmas belly that isn’t 😆 will have to work on that, but we have a great mix of videos coming up this year 😀🙋🏼♂️
If you have a Christmas belly, join the crowd! So much yumminess, so many parties and do’s that trying to eat sensible is a lost cause! Valentines is coming up, you’ll burn it off!
Natchez Glen House you can do either - with the plants you tend to get a smaller head so that can suit a design better sometimes. With boxes you buy per head, so 25 or 50 - which might be a bigger quantity than you want 😀
I simply don't understand how someone could "hate" a plant or flower (other than poison ivy/oak.) What's with all the internet-hating on baby's breath?
I LOVE gyp, to me it's so versatile and if a bouquet hasn't got gyp in it then it's not been finished off lol. When I got married a couple of years ago I had ivory roses, gyp and ruscus, my bridesmaids had just gpy - the photos looked fab
I love Gypsophila, its so pretty. Beautiful wreath, thanks John.
Carol soutar thank you! 🙋🏼♂️
I like the simplicity of the design. One of two flower varieties can make quite an impact.
puffy puff less can be more 😀
Обалденная красота! Руки золотые!

Such a big bright new space!!! I do miss the old one though :)

Lovely idea. I have never used a foam ring for wreaths. Just the metal rings... Going to try this with roses for a funeral.
Roses are perfect for a wreath and happy in a foam base as well . 😀
Soooo pretty
John, this is beautiful. I love it!

Gypsy always was and still is, one of my favourites and this just reiterates why! Beautiful 🌷❤
Beautiful. Can you use the wet foam ring again?
marion mcginn you could get a couple of uses out of it, and with a plastic based ring you could re-foam it to reuse. This works in a home setting, but commercially it is single use by its very nature.

I LOVE THAT..Am thinking to make a dried gyp for a lovely wall hanging❤❤❤
judy archer the principle would be the same - send us a picture when you make it 😀🙋🏼♂️
If I make this with multiple callas or roses spaced though out the ring, is it better to place the flowers first?
I would say yes - especially the calla, as they are easier to insert with no other material getting in the way. The roses you could do it either way as the stems are strong enough to insert easily into gyp already there. 😊

No , thank you 🙏 🥰.
Can I ask how much gypsophia do you need for a 12 inch ring
For this it was about 12 stems - but it could vary depending on the season and how full you want it to look. 😊🙋🏼♂️
Do you buy your Phals as plants or cut flower stems ?
Natchez Glen House you can do either - with the plants you tend to get a smaller head so that can suit a design better sometimes. With boxes you buy per head, so 25 or 50 - which might be a bigger quantity than you want 😀

Allan Hegyes it’s true - it’s how you use it, and it can be stunning 😀🙋🏼♂️
I LOVE gyp, to me it's so versatile and if a bouquet hasn't got gyp in it then it's not been finished off lol. When I got married a couple of years ago I had ivory roses, gyp and ruscus, my bridesmaids had just gpy - the photos looked fab
Patricia Doughty that’s a good way to do it - perfect for bridesmaids bouquets 😀
I think people hate on it because it can be over used. Some people have to put gyp in every bouquet, but it definitely has its place.
Maryann Lane that’s true. 😀
It smells like a cat litter tray when there's too much of it together
Reflections and love you are not wrong - but this probably would be in the home, so less noticeable 😀
Beautiful!
