Thanks for showing me this because I bought a new dv1 gun for clear and I was wondering if I could get away with spraying base with out buying the base dv1. If I was doing production work then it’s nice to have a base gun and a clear gun, but as a diy guy saving is nice!
Hi Michael, Many people use the DV1 clear guns for base as well as clear and indeed the other way round, so it's certainly not necessary to have both. Just clean them out well after use, and you'll be fine. Cheers, buddy, appreciate it 👍
Hi Walter, and thank you, It's the sort of thing I find interesting so really enjoy doing it, and, of course, it's not the sort of thing you often have time to do, it's great to be able to share it with people, cheers mate, much appreciated 👍
Love my 3 DV1 guns, the DV1 base Durbz limited edition, the DV1 Clear gun, and DV1s mini 0.7mm/0.9mm i use for cerakote. I was worried at first with the CV-1 cap going much slower than my walcom 360's i use to have but i have come to like going slower and spraying at only 10psi. Can really watch what i am doing.
Hi William, you have hit the nail on the head, the DV1 is criticised by a fair number of people, offen saying it's a dry finish, that's simply because they are going to fast. They are very rewarding guns to use, providing you let the guns do the work, 👍
@peteshobbies5383 my very first time using my DV1 with the C-1 cap I was clear coating a new plastic bumper i painted for someone and realized right after that first coat I needed to turn back my psi and slow way down and let the gun do its thing. It atomizes so fine and you can watch it lay glass right before you. The DV1-B I love it too especially for metallics its awsome
The DV1 C1 has a fair few critics, mainly because it is quite slow. If you can forgive that, it rewards the painter with excellent results, cheers, buddy 👍
@peteshobbies5383 exactly. It was a lesson learned first time with the DV1-C and i had to make sure i reminded myself of it for a few weeks but now I really do like it. Its amazing the low operating pressure, fine atomization and how it has so much less overspray compared to everything i have used
Great to see you again Pete! So looks like they're identical except for the color of the anodizing of gold or blue! In your opinion, could I use this gun fro base or clear, regardless of whether it's a base or clear gun? Thanks again! Jeff Also, what gun would you choose between the DV1 and the GTI Pro Lite? Or would you prefer an Iwata? Thanks again!
Hi Jeff, good to hear from you again mate, hope you are well 👍 If you're after an all-rounder, you would really be hard pushed to find a better gun than the Devilbiss Tekna Gti Pro Lite, it's far more universal than the DVI with lots of tip choices and 5 different caps
Hi Steve, Thanks, mate . No, they won't fit the DV1 at all. The tips are totally different, and the caps are different. Nothing will interchange, unfortunately
Would you do a sagola 4600 1.3 titania vs Devilbiss 1.5 C2? I wanted the Devilbiss, but after demoing both I bought the sagola, no regrets. But I'm a Devilbiss guy so I'm surprised I was disappointed in the dv1 as I was so excited to try it, and then ended up not wanting it. Not like my old prolite I love that gun
Hi buddy, I'll make a note to try it. It's surprising how many people don't get on with the DV1 for clearcoat, especially coming from the Pro lite. Why did you not like about the DV1 when you tried it? , was it a C1 or C2 cap? , output wise, they are quite different, a bit like the TE10 and TE20 on the pro lite. I was surprised by the output of the 1.5 tip, I have never used it, I bought a full set of tips from a paint rep unused. That's why I have it
Your welcome buddy, when the DV1 first came out, they only made the silver base version B+, I know many people who tried it for clear coat and really liked it, so of all the DV1 guns, it's the most universal, cheers 👍

Hello Pete, I recently purchased a C-2 cap for my base gun and found the cap ring was not compatible so I sent it back and ask for replacement which they sent out and the same problem with thread design. I'm in states so I assume you will have to use the ring from the B+ for the head. I don't have the black dv1.
Hi Mate, That sounds strange, the ones that I have are fully interchangeable, threads are the same. I'm wondering if they have changed them on newer versions to stop people changing them over?
Hi James, now that's a question. They are both relatively slow, so they won't suit everyone, but I would probably give it to the Supernova for clear coat and definitely the DV1 for basecoat
Love devilbis pete most parts are interchangeable and you get caps tips and needles for most applications all in all great products great guns and if you haven't guessed I'm completely bias 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Dean, I'm glad I got round to doing the video, I must have had 15 people in the last 3 months ask me what the differences were, very little in components it would seem, just the caps as has been the case in most of the Devilbiss range for year's. It is quite reassuring that you can change the gun completely with the cap change, not the ripoff, change everything, like some, cheers mate 👍

Hi Pete, first off thanks for doing these comparison videos as I know it's a lot of work setting it up and doing the videos then you have to clean the guns out afterwards, not to mention the post production work👏👏 Ok so, I was really surprised to see the base gun with the B+ cap is exactly the same as the clear gun with the C1 cap but I knew the tips are the same, I've used both guns for clear and to my eyes the base gun seemed slower🤔 but how can it be as both guns are exactly the same🤷♂🤯 I do have the C2 cap and to me it does seem to give a bit more peel (which I'm very OCD about🙄) but is a faster cap. Hi John, I think sometimes we think things that simple aren't the case. I've found, to genuinely try one against the other, everything needs to be the same, so materials, what your painting, temperature, a person's mindframe, etc. So if someone is in a hurry and painting something might seem slower than it actually is because you don't have much time, that's why I like to do the comparison videos with the same wing or tank at the same time.
