    Thank you for sharing your repair of this item. I have just completed the repair on my 2008 Disco. Having drilled out the rivets, and not having a functioning welder, I was able to keep the two parts together while attaching to the car. The four 10mm nuts keep everything secure. Thanks again!

    This was therapeutic. Almost same scenario I'm dealing with. Wife brought home car from shop where guy claimed it "was broken." Yeah right buddy... we all know who broke it

    excellent video and explanation. You are the Man. My Chevy Trailblazer had the same issue, but the case is Plastic and Riveted.Cable bound up and came out of the plastic case like a hernia. I used a grinder to cut the bottom bracket holding the tire at the end of the cable. think I'll just keep the spare on the roof.

    I know this is 6 yrs old but for those who don’t know , 2024, LR put out a service bulletin advising not to use power tools to wind the spare wheel in the up position because the cable would get tangled.

    Excellent! Thank you!! I performed the exact same fix. Is yours still holding?

      @halfmoon5022  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I have only had to lower it once. I used regular ratchet and socket in order to lower spare.

    How the winch is working? Because when I opened it I found the screw pin did not move the black plastic wheel ?

    • @halfmoon5022
      @halfmoon5022  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Then perhaps that plastic gear had it teeth worn out. I have not had to lower the spare since I made this video.

      @@halfmoon5022 what is the solution ?

      If you already have it apart, look to see if that is the issue. If so, weld some cogs/teeth to the metal teardrop piece so that it engages the plastic spool section. Cogs with enough strength to hold the cable. Or, you can go to the yunkyard or ebay.

    When I boxed up it did not work !
    Why ?

    I am worried that straightening the cable may have fatigued it a little.

    I did the same with mine (Discovery 4) when I winch the wheel backup, I can keep turning the winder handle, is this normal?

    • @halfmoon5022
      @halfmoon5022  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not certain. It.is supposed to tighten once the tire meets the surface.

    Nice but you didn't show us if it actually worked lol. Good job though bro

      Joshua Sarrazola It works no doubt. It was going to have to work regardless. Basically because I had already guaranteeeeed my wife that I could fix it, and well, you know how them guarantees go.

      HalfMoon that's good. We lowered the tire one time and it stopped working on my wife's range. I took it off but I am no welder. I am going to look into seeing how much it would cost to fix it verses replacing it.
