- A big announcement today! The Saga continues…
When we began developing the first version of WolfQuest way back in 2006, we imagined a three episode arc: Fall, Winter, and Spring. We had to collapse that into two, due to budget constraints, but that established the format: each episode focused on one or two seasons in Yellowstone, with certain quests and gameplay. So when we began working on what became Anniversary Edition five years ago, it felt natural to think about a third episode, Tower Fall, that followed the pack as the growing pups learned how to hunt. (We also had vague ideas for another episode after that, continuing the story into the deep winter, set in Pelican Valley.)
But as the game evolved, we realized that the game's potential went well beyond those months, and so our ideas for this next episode expanded substantially. Instead of folllowing the pack for a few more seasons, we would follow the pack over the course of years. Time just keeps going, the seasons keep passing by, and the pack has a litter of pups year after year, until the player-wolf dies.
And once we had that in mind, it felt increasingly weird for that to be DLC. It's not a DLC side quest, it's simply the rest of the game -- the rest of the wolf's life. Iany other game, without WolfQuest's unique development history, that's what it would be: the rest of the game. The problem with that, of course, is that our financial model for WQ:AE was based on Tower Fall being DLC. Someone who bought WQ 2.7 for $10 already got AE for free. That's a lot of people! And since we've had our hands full with all the new stuff we've now released in 2021, we bided our time, until now, when we need to make that decision. So here's the new plan:
* Tower Fall will be DLC: a new map that we hope lots of players will purchase. If you buy this map, you'll be able start a new game here,or move your pack to it anytime, as long as the pups are big enough (September through March in each game-year). And then you can move back to Slough Creek or even to Amethyst Mountain.
* The "rest of the game" -- your pups growing, learning to hunt, becoming yearlings as you the new pups of the year are born, then eventually either dispersing or staying with the pack for awhile to help raise the pups of the year, and so on -- all that will be part of the game, no additional purchase necessary. That will be the complete WolfQuest experience, available to everyone who owns the game.
We're really excited about this plan, especially with some of the twists and turns that can happen over the years with your pack. But this raises an interesting question: What do we call this "rest of the wolf's life"? For so long we've used the the map=gameplay model, where "Slough Creek" is shorthand for "raise pups," but that won't work anymore, since you'll be able to stay at Slough Creek if you like. Or start a new game in Slough Creek or Tower Fall. Or establish your territory and choose a den on Amethyst Mountain. With the entire saga playable on each map, there are so many possibilities!
So we're calling this the Saga: Life goes on, time goes by, pups are born, grow up, disperse, one generation after another.... It's the WolfQuest Saga. We think it'll be kind of epic!
The Saga is going to keep us busy for awhile and the game will remain in Early Access until it's completed and released, which means we won't be turning our attention to other platforms until that point.
In addition to Tower Fall, we plan to release more DLC in 2022: at least one more wolf customization pack, and of course the expanded Lost River map. If you start in Lost River, you won't be able to travel to the Yellowstone maps, but you will be able to play the entire Saga, raising pups year after year. We also have another Yellowstone map in mind. We want to give players more ways to enjoy the game -- and more ways to support game development. You can also support the game by gifting the game or DLC to friends, writing a review on Steam, and even donating to WolfQuest on Fundly.com/WolfQuest.
I'm sure that this will raise many questions for players, but this is all we have to share at the moment. Devblogs in the coming months will look at various aspects of the Saga. We are as eager as anyone to get this new phase of the game out there, but as usual, we have not set a release date. So stay tuned -- 2022 is going to be a another great year for WolfQuest! - เกม
The possibility of living and having pups in any map would actually be so exciting! Because not only is it not the same gameplay over and over again, but you can decide which wolf gets to live what life and where! Which would make every wolf you play unique with how you style their life. But of course that requires even more work. No matter what comes next, I will always support you guys because of the notable passion that you put into this game!
I know! Dave and them REALLY spoil us! I think it will make gameplay more interesting because your ospring can leave or stay, they all have personality so seeing your favorite pup leave and not take care of the pups would be sad but make if more interesting!

Right? I usually make wolves have prefered territories already...For instance, a wolf who was around their parents a lot as a pup comes back to the same territory, a wolf who enjoyed swimming lives by the lake or river...but imagine all the NEW possibilities we'll get! We really are spoiled 😅. And to think back to, for instance, wolfquest 2.5...wolfquet really has come such a long way

This game means so much to me, I literally grew up the game. I remember when I found the first game, I must've been like 7 years old on my crappy laptop, and I was absolutely RAVING to my cousin about how "realistic" it was, we both adored wolves and everything to do with them. If only 7 year old me knew what was to come!! The wolfquest team is my favorite team/game developer I've ever seen, no other group of people have added this amount of passion and detail into a game. Thank you all for everything you do!
Wow I can relate so much. I found this game when I was the same age (7) and I kept asking my Mom if I could get it which I finally did. I was so happy and I finally got to play my dream game. Played it for years and now playing the new game is amazing. I totally love the dev's, I love how they arn't money grabbing too.

The Wolfquest Saga sounds amazing and is the perfect fit for the game. I remember getting 2.5 WQ back when I was 11 and being amazed at what was in the game back then, now I simply feel spoiled by all this amazing new gameplay. This game has always held a special place in my heart and I’ve always looked back on it with love. I am now 20 and I feel that same old rush of excitement with all the new content as I did when 2.7 came out with all of its updates back when I was 14/15. This game has aged so well and the developers behind it are the best I’ve seen out of every Indie/Triple A game company I’ve been a player of. You guys have done amazing work and truly care about your game, it’s player base and helping people understand wolves for what they truly are. I think everyone in the community can agree with me when I say we are all extremely proud of Wolfquest, the people behind it and how far it has come.
I feel the exact same way. I got 2.5 at 9 years old and now I'm 18...it's everything little me dreamed of. This game truly has THE BEST developers...amazing, kind people who want the world for their players. I'm so so so grateful for the entire wolfquest team.

This game is one of my favorite games. I remeber I got addicted to playing 2.5. Unfortunately I don't have any money so I've only been able to play the 2.7 free trial. Also I keep entering the contests but I haven't won yet.

yea its amazing what this team has done. this is indie game dev done right. I just got back into playing the game (if im being honest i hadnt played AE very much since it was released, even though i played hundreds of hours of 2.5/7) and im just blown away with the attention to detail and passion put into this project. Honestly all this feels too good to be true from my experiences with other early access games, but i actually believe they will do what they are planning because they have delivered on pretty much everything so far. These guys are truly paving the way for the Animal Survival Sim genre.
Whenever tower fall is out I’ll make sure to buy it, so far it looks amazing

Wait, so if I understood correctly-So Tower Fall the _map_ will be purchased content. But Tower Fall's original concept, the continuation of your wolf's story, will just...keep on going WHEREVER you decide to live? All stages can be played on any map you want?

This video made me tear up. Wolf Quest is one of the few games that have managed to captivate me throughout its entire development process without there being any doubts from my part about its future success.
Much like how you'll live your life generation after generation in the game I can also imagine the game being played for generations to come as well, given how much love is being put into it!

One of the best things I admire the most about this game is how the developers continually update the player community about future plans of the game, and make it as amazing and enjoyable long-term as possible. Never played a game as wholesome as this and where its developers are dedicated to make it wonderful for the fans. One of the best games I've played, so excited for the saga to come out and will definitely buy the DLC to support yall!

This is everything i ever hoped for and more. I've been playing this game since 2018 and Wolfquest is what started my interest (or should we say obsession) in wolves. Its so amazing to witness how this game just keeps getting better and how dedicated you guys are to Wolfquest and the fanbase.

Me too!! Been obsessed with wolves and playing WolfQuest since elementary in 2010 to this day 2022!! The music is so therapeutic and the learning experience from the game is absolutely amazing!!!!
I am so so excited to see where this all goes. It’s so incredible to watch this game begin to take its final shape after so long. I plan on buying it all. Thank you for creating this, this is the game I’ve always wanted, and one day I hope to study wolves in the real world just like this.
And just for the sake of asking, Will any yearlings/now-adult pups stay to raise the next litters of pups if they survive that long? Will there be dens and such added to Amethyst Mountain and Tower Fall now, if you say we can stay and have pups there?

I started playing WolfQuest over a decade ago now, and I continue to be absolutely slack-jawed by how far the game has come thanks to the dev team. I remember wishing so badly that there was content past the old rendezvous site and I always thought it would be so fun to play alongside full-grown pups, so hearing that you guys have even *more* planned after Tower Fall feels like a childhood dream come true! The idea of a lack of map constraints is also insanely cool (Slough Creek no longer defined by pup-raising? Illegal!) You guys never fail to amaze me, keep being awesome!

I would absolutely love the ability to have a proper pack in the game, instead of only two wolves. It excites me to see this game is still around from when i was a kid, i bought it and getting the dlc next month!
I feel like the people at WolfQuest are putting in a lot more effort than a lot of games, I don’t mean that for every game, but I feel like if some other group had made this, they wouldn’t be trying to make it better like WolfQuest has done. This game already has so much more to it than most games I have played, and the people at WolfQuest are still working hard to make it better for everyone!! They all deserve appreciation for how hard they work, from the person making the music to the person who makes these videos for us. And the fact that they explain the process of making a game like this in a fun way! I’m so happy to say that I’m finally getting WolfQuest today, and I’m going to keep supporting this whole project.

I can’t wait to buy tower falls, and I am BEYOND excited you’ll get to have a whole npc pack. There’s so many possibilities to improve the game that comes with that, like how you’ll interact with everyone and how much harder the game will get depending on your pack size (like in multiplayer, where, for example, there are more stranger wolves during den attacks), how you’ll decide who goes where like how you can send your mate home or bring them with you… I’ll certainly be staying tuned for any and all future updates and will definitely be buying anything I can get my hands on within reason!

One recommendation. If/when you update Lost river…. PLEASE put the kitty back in there XDDD. That kitty on the pedestal at the townhall. Maybe add other stray animals as well(I mean I know that’s probably a lot to ask, but at least keep the kitty).
Other than that. Whatever you decide to charge. Take my money. I’ll buy it all. Love it so far. The adventures will never end.

Hey! Did you happen to have 2.7 multiplayer? I always ask that when I see somebody who joined WolfQuest around 2017 cause I had (and still have) a million friends cause I friended everybody I saw XD.

I can't believe this game has come so far! One moment it's a small wolf game where you hunt some elk, and if you're lucky enough to have the DLC, have pups. The next moment it's a whole fandom and community still growing by the minute!

I just had to say I love this game, it practically raised me as I’ve been playing 2.5 since I was 11, I grew as the game grew and I’ve got multiple books on my wolves families and even made models of them, thank you for making this possible wolf quest devs you truly are the best
This is honestly so amazing- a lot of game developers would jump on any opportunity to make money, making ridiculously small things DLC. But the Wolfquest developers don't! And that surprises me, these developers are amazingly different! They value the experience of the players rather then money! Wow! To all the developers of this astonishing game, we appreciate and adore you!

Thanks for following our progress! Lost River (DLC) has been released, yes. But Tower Fall (DLC) will be coming closer to when the Saga update happens.

I'm so excited! I love qold quest do much and I had always imagined that the game could've become so big and have such amazing gameplay, it felt like more of a dream. I anticipate the release eagerly and will certainly be buying any DLC that comes out aswell as recommending it to my friends

Fantastic! Some suggestions: You could put fish in the game for the wolves to hunt. Or add snakes, honey badgers and other things to complicate or force the wolf to fight or flee from its den. Or maybe stealing or fighting coyotes, foxes or other wolves for their dens.
This game just keeps evolving and never ceases to surpass my expectations.

Man.. 15 years already?? This game really has invested me and I cant believe I’ve stuck around for so long. This game has been a huge part of my life and I’ve never been more astonished by how far its come, and how I was able to watch and be part of that progress. This game truly has had a ridiculous impact on me, who, when played it for the first time at age 6, now age 14, still has me wrapped up in it. That’s incredible to me, and It makes me so impressed and happy to see the amazing progression of this game, and I will forever been in debt of the memories it’s given me, thank you so much to all of the devs who made this game and it’s history possible. I love you guys ❤️❤️
I have been loving this game with all my heart since 2008. I have bought the game for many friends and have bought the DLC and soundtrack in support of the team & what they do. I got chills with this video! Being able to see Amethyst Mountain in June, like I have with my own eyes, is going to be a magical experience. Tower Falls, too! It will be stunning.
This is still my favorite game even after all these years. I will definitely be buying all the DLC released in support of the team. Thank you all for everything you all do!

oh man oh man oh man. This has, officially, made my day. Definitely made my week. Quite possibly made my whole month. I daydreamed about a true continuous mode, where you got to have previous years of pups stick around as subordinate, the seasons just rolling onwards... but oh man. I never thought we'd actually GET THAT LUCKY.
Hats off to you, development team. It's an enormous task, retrofitting the game like this, but we thank you for it.
I remember when it was just Amethyst Mountain! I'm happy and proud to see how much improvement not only graphically but more importantly technological advances. There much less bugs and the functions are much more smooth
That is an amazing idea, WQ team! I will be happy to support you in any way too. The gameplay is already amazing as it is, so to have it go further with being able to raise and have your pups (some of them) stay with you to help raise the next litter and so forth is so cool, I so cannot wait for what you guys come up with and to be able to play it eventually. god i remember playing this religiously when I was 10 (I'm almost 24 now how time flies). It got me into writing and drawing through its multiplayer severs cause i use to join a lot of rp severs. Im now almost finished with college with an art degree and minor in writing. Thank you for giving me that chance to find that part of myself. Glad to see the game still well and alive C:

I'm so excited for this! i've been nervous with how tight things have been that i might not be able to get tower fall when it came out, and it would suck but i figured i could get it eventually and if i had to wait thats that. but with the saga portion being free thats honestly amazing, i'll definitely be getting the dlc's when they come out to support the project when i can, its really awesome you decided to include the saga base game. tower falls looks gorgeous, i bet the map does really well

honestly you guys work so hard on everything, I plan on purchasing every DLC you all release. I'll do what I can to support your game, which I practically grew up with!

This is amazing news! Definitely going to purchase when it comes out. I used to play so much 2014-2017 and was amazed by the game at that time. I just recently got back on and am amazed by how the game has come along. I am sure that almost every Wolf Quest user would agree that this would be amazing. Especially because you would be able to grow your pups even more and we would be able to go through the entire life of our wolf if we would like to. Thank you Wolf Quest team!

Omg I cannot believe my wish came true, what an awesome late Christmas gift! I was so hoping and wishing you guys do something like this! :D It would make the game feel more a game, and we can do more than just stop like the original Wolf quest, that part always upset me as I wanted to do more. This is freaking great! ^-^ When this is fully done, I am so gonna get the game. :3 As it feels more worth it at the end. Please keep up the amazing work. ♥
This is super cool and will add so much variable gameplay! I'm really excited for this update and will of course buy any DLC and coat packs you guys put out. I always want to give financial support when I can, and the WolfQuest team has been so good about keeping the game updated and staying in touch with the community.

I’ve rewatched this more times than I can say. I’m so incredibly excited for The Saga! This is everything I’ve always wanted from WolfQuest, and it’s so amazing to see the love and devotion the whole team has put in to see the game get this far! From the talented artists, to the amazing beta testers, to the incredible development team, I can tell that this is going to be absolutely wonderful! I’ll definitely be buying all the DLC’s that are released, and I’m so hyped to see the devlogs that come from this epic change! Here’s to a wonderful 2022! Happy New Years!
You guys are amazing, this plan is such a good concept and I'm eagerly waiting to see its progress! I think I've said it before but WolfQuest is such a big part of my life and I'm overjoyed to see how far its come and the plans for the future!
Ive been a part of this journey for as long as i can remember, ive had the first version and its only getting better. It was my first actual game that really made me so immensely happy, wolves are like my special interest i would educate myself on them buy books about them, this game has been an amazing motivational way for this interest of mine to not only be combined with gaming but also have a different way of getting into it. I am so sad I can’t afford a laptop/pc that can play it. Ive already bought it and have it on steam waiting for me when i get a new one! I absolutely cannot wait! You are honestly so amazing for doing this and especially for actually educating yourself about wolves so it is as realistic as possible. This is and will forever be my first favourite game and most likely last. 🥰
This is incredibly exciting! I bought the game as soon as it was public in beta and have seen it grow throughout the few years you've been working so hard on it! :D I'm constantly amazed by the amount of work and effort you and your team put through.

this is so exciting! seeing the game development come so far and all the wonderful work put into the game made me tear up. Knowing that playing the game, living the real life of a wolf and being able to have a larger pack anywhere you want in Yellow Stone is really amazing! So many stories could be created for each of the wolves and the game on its own is just a work of art! Thank you for taking your time and efforts to make Wolf Quest the best game it can be! Can't wait for future updates on the development of the game! Keep up the great work.
You guys have come such a long way! I remember when wq3 was first released! I remember when slough creek was first added, it was really amazing to see everyones joy and I am so excited for what the future brings! Thank you wq team, you really made this year worth it
This is amazing!! The fact that y’all keep adding more and more content and improving the game in ways we could only dream of all those years ago! Deciding to fully show us the life and diverging from the map = a season of a wolf’s life model is a huge leap that will definitely make WQ an even better experience!

This is amazing! I was literally wondering yesterday when Tower Fall would come out. I'm so excited and you guys are such hard workers and you care more about the players and their experience and education on wolves than money. Thank you guys so much for your hard work it means a lot! Plus my goal is to work with animals, mainly wolves, when I get older, and you guys really inspire me the way you want people to know what a wolf is really like. I promise you I will buy tower fall as a DLC and I'm sure other people that can will. We know how hard you guys work. Again, thank you so much!
The gameplay possibilities that Tower Fall will add feel phenomenally endless. I'm a little emotional at the idea of being able to truly explore Yellowstone with my very own pack. When I first started playing WolfQuest in 2008, I had no idea how big of an effect this game would have on my life. I now regularly visit Yellowstone to go wolf watching in Lamar Valley and Slough Creek, and I am awed by how similar the game looks compared to real life. It's spectacular. WolfQuest beautifully combines art and education and I am so excited to see what comes next.

I'm so happy Dave and them decided that only Tower fall will be a dlc, i have found the game semi boring so when it's completed I will probably play for hours on end
THIS IS SO EXCITING! Being able to see your pups grow (and possibly encounter them when they leave, maybe each year you get a little notice on how they're doing?) and possibly forge their own families is going to be the best part for someone like me. What would make this even better in my opinion. All the possibilities of how you could change and shape this is making me ever so excited, and I seriously cannot wait

I cannot wait to raise my pups fully! I’m holding onto my first save for anniversary edition so I can start there! Lost River was always my favorite map in the original so I am super excited for this one! Also, Tower Falls looks beautiful so far, keep up the good work!
Ohhhhh my gosh. You guys, this game is beyond amazing. The idea of being able to raise pups and see them grow and get a mate in so many maps is absolutely AMAZING. Heck imma be donating some of my Christmas money to this I’m so excited. I cannot express how much I appreciate your work, you guys truly care about the game you’re creating and it shows through the beautiful graphics and engaging gameplay.

damn, this is going to be legendary, i cant believe this game has come this far, and i literally cannot wait for this, i know that the game is going to be better than ever next year, as if it isnt already. Ive supported wolfquest for a really long time and it just keeps on getting better. Honestly this is one of the most inspiring games ever, and has helped me in a lot of ways too. Thanks so much for the chance to experience something as epic as this, and good luck on continuing the game :D

I'd gladly by the dlc for this game I've been following since I was like 11! Which is been like 10 years now? It's hard to imagine that my childhood game is gone so far and still so amazing! I can't wait to see what the game has in store.

Honestly - WQ3 is the only game where I'm going to buy every future DLC or anything to support your work because it's such an amazing and beautiful game and I'm in love with it! I have been playing this game long before the announcement of towerfall and I have loved every second of it then and now. You are doing a wonderful job and I feel like I get to grow up with this game which has been incredible. I cant wait for the new content and maps, Thank you for making my childhood
