Simplistic doesn't mean bad. And why was the nose of the lotus taken as part of the livery?
Manor was practically dead at that point.

@Ceejay Dennes I think it was actually a very simple yet beautifully designed livery. I never liked the temperature of the colours they used, but I liked the way the lines flowed. I think the only very real flaw was the lack of sponsors, as it made the car look empty and missing something.

Hrt wasn't great , the base colour wasn't great
2010/1 HRT was really bad but the 2012 car is ok but they could've been more creative

Hated it when I first saw it now I actually think it’s my favourite livery on the grid. I think 2020 Williams looks worse than 2019.

The 2019 Williams (FW42) is, in all possible ways, a tub of toothpaste.
Generates as much downforce as one lol.
Incorrect, i threw a tube of toothpaste like a javelin and it immediately speared into the floor. Clearly more downforce than the 2019 Williams.

Tommo saying (For the manor) blue “red” and white... me wondering what part of that looks red lol (I know it’s red just the photo looks like it’s orange)
I remember when the blue was changed mid season so it was lighter and not as shiny but I preferred the darker blue but loved both

I have to disagree with Tommo on the 2016 Manor. I saw it in real life at the Silverstone tests. Definitely red, not orange. It was absolutely gorgeous. Best car of the decade for me.

Chelsea sponsorship aside, I actually really like the 2012 Sauber. Looks very clean and will always be iconic to me thanks to Checo’s podiums in it
It's interesting how great the slanted color blocks looked on the McLaren Marlboro cars but how horrible the same design looks on the 2012 Sauber.
Gergely's Technic Models also WHY IS THE RED STRIPE ONLY ON THE BACK BLOCK BUT NOT ON THE FRONT IT MAKES IT SO MUCH WORSE
Sometimes aswell I think we look at that Mclarens livery with rose tinted glasses as they were the great Mclaren years. Not that I think it was a bad livery

@@alexthegreat7518 That is an incredibly hard decision as they all are incredibly nice looking. I would put 2008 MP4-23 first (chassis wise) as the McLaren 2008 chassis in my opinion then was so unique. But I would say livery wise, the MP4-27 as it was incredibly smooth, and sleek. Then the MP4-13 as It was the true beginning of the silver cars rise and fall (as Mika Hakkinen won back to back championships) Then I would put the MP4-23 last.
2017 Martini Williams livery is one of the best of all time imo
the "launch spec" 2015 McLaren livery was a great idea executed poorly - trying to invoke the nostalgia of the Hakkinen era but the lack of sponsors (or driver's names on the sidepods) just didn't help it
I really liked the 2019 williams livery. Especially with the hints of red with the drivers helmets and rokit logo.
Me too, the williams 2019 is very beautiful so the cars is a trash
@@TommoMcCluskey Agreed. I really don't understand how some people actually like the 2019 Williams livery. I get that people have different tastes, and for the most part I can actually see people disliking something I like and vice versa, but I have not been able to understand how anyone would look at that thing and say "that looks alright" 😂😂😂
J.J. Schlachtfeld yeah when I saw it I though that’s dreadful I must be missing something but I kept looking and I couldn’t find any angle or any reason for how it could look good
For me the 2019 Williams was one of the best looking liverys on the track

Fun fact: Chelsea appeared on Sauber from 2012 - 2015, so I assume Tommo would probably hate all Saubers from those years.
Tommo F1 Your much more cynical than I remember xD
1- Sauber C32: Did a good job covering up that horrendous step-nose tbh, unjustified. It should be the C29, the unsponsored depressing shadow of what was once BMW Sauber.
2- Williams FW42: I looked at this and then the concept arts that some people did and it made me want to cry, so much potential with the Orlen sponsor had been wasted.
3- Lotus E22: Twin tusk nose aside this one gives it a pretty good mix of gold and red, I think the E23 Hybrid should be on here instead.
4- Williams FW35: Funnily enough only noticeable on the side. Still can’t compare to the FW34 which has more flow to it.
5- Sauber C34: Yeah they could’ve added a little more the the car tbh.
6- Mclaren MCL32: Undeserved, the MP4-30 or the MP4-31 deserve to be there.
7- Manor MRT05: Oh boi you deserve a tactical drone strike for this one. Manor was practically dead at this point desperately looking for sponsors. The HRT F111 deserves to be here a lot more if anything.
8- Ma****ia MR02: Eh don’t have anything to say for this one.
9- Mercedes-AMG MGP W02: Meh, plain. Just plain
10- Ferrari F2012: _2012 Ferrari feels bad man_
Dishonorable mentions: The HRTs, 2014 Mclaren MP4-29, 2015 Mclaren MP4-30 (Both iterations), 2016 Mclaren MP4-31, 2018 Mclaren MCL33, 2014 Caterham CT05, 2015 Lotus E23 Hybrid, 2019 HAAS VF-19 (Fuck you Rich Energy), 2015 Red Bull RB11, 2016 HAAS VF-16, 2010 Sauber C29

I love the 2017 McLaren, it's one of my favourite liveries of the 2010's and I like the 2016 Manor.
Ok but can we just agree 2014 was terrible for mclaren
I thought those orange stripes was not only the new colour associated with the car company (since I often saw the MP4-12C, their 1st new car in quite a while since the F1, in orange) (like how Ferrari is associated with red), but also to hide their decline in sponsors' logos on the MCL-32 (compared to the MP4-28 & earlier)
Tommo F1 the orange stripe on the McLaren in 2017 is actually the McLaren logo between the black.
Great picks, but I would pull a controversial move of my own: Swap the 2017 McLaren with the 2018. The papaya orange looks great, the blue looks great. it's just the way it's executed. I don't even mind the 2017 livery, it's just they pulled it off SO MUCH better in 2019 with the same colours (compared to 2018.) Anyone else agree that the 2018 McLaren looks pretty bad?
The only thing that made the livrery better was the Asturian colors on the fin on Alonso's last race.
For the rest, even cheering for McLaren I'm not at all a fan of their recent trademark blue-papaya combo, or of the papaya in general.
Still now they use a darker orange for the stock 570S GT4, and there were those tones like the Volcano Orange for the P1, or that one in wich the MP4-12C is often seen.
Maybe that explains why the 2017 one is a personal all-time favorite of mine, right thanks to that wrong shade of orange.
Maybe the 2019 Williams doesn’t look like a an agile car, because it wasn’t. 😂
Totally agree with the 2019 Williams livery, just utterly uninspiring, as if the designer gave absolutely 0 duck on the project: "Well it's gonna be a garbage car anyways why care?"

Personally I think the 2019 Haas was a terrible looking car. Also, I'm a fan of the 2019 Williams, it's the first car I pick when racing 2019 F1.
Hey Tommo, since you got the design chops I'd like to see you do another livery design video but instead of redesigning a current teams livery I'd love to see you design your own teams livery. It would be interesting to see what you come up with having your own team logo as well.

What's poppin Tommo how is your lockdown going? Any opinion on the 2017 Sauber, the Blue and Gold one? 25th anniversary logo looked elegant, sadly it was sponsorless.
I feel like I’m the only person who actually didn’t mind the Williams 2019, probably even prefer it to 2020 tbh...
I like both but prefer the 2020 livery. The extra splash of red while garing looks good and looks way better irl than the reders do.

Also, I think you should replace the 2011 Merc with the 2010 Merc, the oily black streak and the colours of the font just do it in for me. Yes yes, it's their first year and I should cut them some slack but then again in RB's first year they had a decent livery.

Here's what I think
10- Not sure why the 2012 Ferrari is on this list, it's not the most amazing livery, but it ain't the worst. The worst Ferrari for me is 2014
9- Have to agree, Merc 2011 and 2011 cars in general looked tacky af
8- No, I disagree with this one. One of the things those backmarker teams did right was make nice liveries, I quite liked the 2013 one, it was red and black, had white accents, and it looked pretty good

6- This is very unpopular but I love the 2017 McLaren, it looked great for me. The fin wasn't S bad as the little hanger there, but that's not livery. Loved the orange, and it was the first car to have orange since Renault and ING. Also Stoffel Vandoorne's first car
5- I agree, the Sauber liveries of 2013 and 2014 were really boring though, I liked the blue, but the livery could be far better with yellow wings
4- It's a tough one, personally I liked all the Williams envy liveries from 2010-2013. For some reason I liked the tight line design, but I get the point being made
3- 2014 cars are so fucking hard to judge accurately bc Jesus Christ those noses. Wtf were Lotus even doing, many liveries were ruined by that "design." Lotus 2014 car looks a lot like their 2013 car, which, imo, was worse with the red

1- Yeah, pretty much, was pretty lazy, I wouldn't say the worst, but it makes the top 10. Sauber were so fun to watch in 2012 though
Just a question, how did the 2015 McLaren not make the list? Force India 2015 would have also been on my list the silver and orange just did not work at all

2015 McLaren was the worst of the decade. Even though they brought in Honda, they forgot to remove the chrome livery and thought "Fuck it, let's fix it with some screaming red". The one that followed (black) wasn't too great either. All a result of Ron Dennis' stubborn mind and 1980s sponsor philosophy that was outdated
I love the 2019 Williams. The blue and white pop along with the black to set off the tires. Love the blacked out look.

Really nice, concise video, even if I didn't agree with all of them (2016 Manor ;)). Video length was perfect for me watching this at 5mins to midnight lol. As for picture quality, I haven't noticed anything but then again my internet is so god damn awful all my videos have dreadful picture quality anyway :(

Notice how the McLaren livery in recent years has been themed on transition. In 2016 it was black, 2017 it was Orange and Black, 2018 it was Full Orange with a hint of blue, 2019 Orange and Blue, and finally 2020 it is Half Orange half blue. I expect in the coming years the McLaren livery will go to full blue.
come on, you cant call the 2016 manor a default livery, they literally put alot of effort into it, and it blended with their whole retro theme that year, even their social media channels when they posted pictures it had a retro tint/filter! theres also the manor logo on the orange part of the engine cover, the design was deliberate and there are small touches here and there man
The reason a team like Marussia with few sponsors are 'safe' with their designs is because they are hoping to pick up sponsors during the season, and so will need space for the extra logos.

Mercedes actually ran a VfB Stuttgart livery in DTM twice, Wehrlein in 2013 and Wickens in 2017. But that's not as random as the Chelsea one, because the Daimler Family have been founding members of the club and the Mercedes Benz Arena is directly next to the Mercedes Museum and the Headquarters.
A cool video. But the MGP W02 of Michael & Nico, is by far the Top 3 liveries of the last decade! :)

2010 was an average backmarker livery, 2011 was great, and 2012 probably should have been on this list, the color palette was jarring

man that 2017 mclaren had a lot of potential for me. the color combo they used definitely was a good one, but the black bit at the back and the fin shoud've just been orange, or the black just on the fin and not on the engine cover

The Chelsea logo always confused me on the Sauber especially since Chelsea probably have the money to sponsor a big team like Red bull
3:01 I kinda like it, and that shade of orange comes off much nicer than whatever "papaya" they're using now. Maybe the black parts could be white instead, now that could look even better. Though I don't really mind that fin anyway
