  • This is a full length documentary of Camino de Santiago del Norte that we've done in September 2018 and hiked around 550kms from Biarritz to Ribadeo.
    Discover this beautiful oceancoast alternative to the most popular French Way and decide for yourself whether it is worth hiking. This is the longest and the biggest hike we've done so far. We were staying in the tent all the way through stopping at the campsites or doing wild camping. We were always searching for alternatives and so we were able to visit so many great locations and stunning places. It was our first time at the oceancoast and we are absolutely in love with it. We learnt so many things while doing it. The main one is that the way is more important than the destination and there is no one perfect way for everybody. Hope that you will enjoy this amazing adventure with us!

    We are a couple who once fell in love with mountains and couldn't get back. So we decided to follow our heart and move from a big city to a small village to be able to do what we love and to create this content. Our goal is to promote the healthy lifestyle, to motivate people to travel more and care for nature around. We are passionate walkers who love hiking, trekking and camping. We offer the detailed information of our hikes and routes, including the map and all the directions, so that you can repeat it if you'd like to.
    We choose walking over driving and other types of transportation whenever we can because we learnt that this way we see so much more and can explore and feel the place better. Walking is an excellent activity that has so many benefits to your health and requires no special equipment or practice, so we encourage you to get the most out of it and get out walking.
    We speak English, Spanish, French and Russian, so don't hesitate to address to us in your native language.

    Hello, our friends! This week we are finally releasing our Camino de Santiago del Norte Documentary! It took us a lot of time and effort but we really wanted to make a compilation of the best and most important moments of our Camino because it was a very special experience to us. It was our first Camino and our first meeting with the ocean. We really hope you will enjoy this documentary and let us know if you would like to see more movies like this in the future. We will continue on posting the next episode of Tour de Mont Blanc next Saturday. So stay tuned for that!

    I walked the French Way in September 2018. Thinking of trying the Norte this year - or maybe next. I had heard the Norte is more beautiful and much less crowded than the Frances. Your documentary has been such a pleasure to watch! And a confirmation, apparently, of what I had heard. Thank you for it!

      Thank you for sharing your feedback! We did walk our Camino del Norte in the same time period September 2018 and enjoyed such a beautiful weather. We can´t compare Frances and Norte apparently because this was our first Camino but it wasn´t crowded that´s true. We did quite a lot of alternatives which made our way even more special we think. So hopefully you will get a chance to walk it soon and may you have a wonderful experience with it!

    BRAVO ! Absolutely BELLO! ... breathtakingly beautiful documentary that I hope many more will see and bring attention to the road less traveled; el Camino del Norte. I was delighted by your narration and beautiful cinematography! ... thank you once more for this beautiful rendition of the Cantábric coast of Spain. I am glad that these beautiful sights are getting the recognition they deserve, with now CondeNast Travel identifying this coast as one of Europe's 20 best places to visit. I enjoyed every minute of your documentary (which I haven't seen till now do to my travels in Asia) and can't wait to return to Asturias coast this summer. Congratulations for a job well done ! Buen Camino, chicos!

      Thanks so much for such high appreciation of our work, friend! We too hoping that more people will discover this beauty and real jewel of Spain. We didn't know about the CondeNast Travel, that is truly wonderful. Really hope that it will not get too contaminated though and people will respect nature and value of these places. You too, buen camino and have a great time at the Asturian coast!

Because of the train we were able to visit so many wonderful spots that the official route was skipping. You can check our website to find approximate maps to help you with the detours. Thank you for your kind feedback, we really appreciate your words! Yes, it truly deserves to be felt and lived by your own. We found with us that no single video can spoil our own feelings and impressions of the trail no matter how well or detailed it is filmed. And it always turns out somehow different from what we have seen or expected. But of course it is important not to "over prepare" yourself for it to avoid any disappointments. So hopefully it won't be the case for you neither. Have a wonderful experience with your own Camino!:)

    Thank you so much for your wonderful video. You have inspired me to at some time walk the Camino del Norte, at least in part. I have an idea of starting in England, walking to Portsmouth and taking the ferry to Santander and walking from there. The coastal route is so incredibly beautiful. I appreciate that you camped all along the Way. I thought that was only done on our long distance treks like the Pacific Crest Trail here in the States. You opened my eyes to new and wonderful possibilities.

    • @Davey-Boyd
      @Davey-Boyd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WalkingNatureWorld Yes the Primitivo is one of my favorite Camino's! I have walked it twice now! I free camp also, and the Primitivo is really good for camping. (A lot of great secluded church porches that nobody minds you sleeping in either). The Primitivo takes about two weeks, but if you can extend that by a week more I truly recommend starting in Leon, walking the utterly beautiful Camino San Salvador to Oviedo where the Primitivo starts. On the Primitivo you have two main options, the Hospitales route or the Pola Allande route. BOTH are stunning (and hard work) but I would recommend Hospitales for the first time. Buen Camino! Davey

    • @WalkingNatureWorld

      @@Davey-Boyd Thank you so much for your recommendations, we will take it into consideration for sure. We didn't know that there are two ways to do the Primitivo. Starting from Leon is also a great idea! Wild camp we do anyway and if it is easy on this Camino it may be perfect:)

  • @Webpoodle

    Many thanks, I loved this little film and its music. And it has convinced me to change plans and walk the coastal camino rather than the French camino later this year. I did notice the absence of other walkers. Is this a result of your editing work or was it really that devoid of fellow pilgrims? Also is private accommodation readily available along the way? I'm in my sixties and would rather not camp if possible.
    So for your next hike how about coming down here to New Zealand and hiking the Te Araroa Trail. Perhaps stop off in Nepal and do the Annapurna Circuit on the way :-) Again, thanks for a lovely, relaxing 90min.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for leaving your feedback, that is so great to hear that it was inspiring to you. This Camino truly deserves more attention.
      Of course we did edit the videos in a way that not a lot of people enter the frame but actually there weren't that many other pilgrims on the trail. Maybe that was due to the season that wasn't July and August and in September there is less people on the trails. Also we took quite a lot of alternatives out of official trail and that's why it was quite remote and secluded most of the time.
      We think you can plan on staying in private accomodation without any major problem as the Camino passes through quite a lot of villages and towns where apart from albergues you can find different rooms for rent for example. Of course this planning needs to be done in advance so that you feel more relaxed when actually walking.
      Well New Zealand is definitely on our top list of visiting, it attracts us a lot with its endless greenery and nature beauty. And Nepal also sounds amazing. We will be planning that for the next years.Thank you for your kind comment, it made our day:)

    That’s great. I really enjoyed the video. Especially interesting as we’re thinking of walking the trail as soon as Covid allows. I must say I’m impressed by how small your packs are given that you were camping and cooking and carrying food and had to deal with all weathers. How did you do that? Can I recommend the South West Coast Path in the UK. It’s nearly a 1000 kilometres and there’s no need for any busses or trains or walking on roads as the whole route sticks closely to the cliffs and beaches. It’s a fantastic trail. Best wishes to you and many thanks for the video.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Phil, for the feedback! Happy to know that you enjoyed it. In regards to our packs, we don't actually think they are that small, we are still working on downsizing them and making more lightweight without sacrificing much of course. And this year we made several improvements that we are going to share after this hiking season. But we honestly feel that it is always an ongoing process. You can watch several of our what's in a backpack videos to make an idea of what we take: th-cam.com/video/uddT99c5qFk/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/LnrQiocZId4/w-d-xo.html
      Thanks a lot for the trail recommendation, we heard mane good things about the coastal paths in UK especially looking at the pictures it reminds us a lot the Spanish Northern Coast that we enjoyed very much. How about the stealth camping or bivouac there?

    • @PhilMcKelliget
      @PhilMcKelliget 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WalkingNatureWorld That’s great - I’ll look at those videos. Wild camping is possible on the UK coast but you need to be discrete. The problem is that you don’t know if an area is going to be good for camping until you get there, but you rarely see a no camping sign. You just need to be discreet and intelligent. There are lots of campsites but they can be expensive. When we did it we sought out smaller farm sites but you often have to walk inland up a big hill. The biggest problem in the UK is always the weather which can be very wet and is always unpredictable. Anyway, if you need any advice my partner and I are experts. Best regards Phil

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhilMcKelliget Amazing to know that wild camping is possible there, it is a big deal for us. We always try to be discreet anyway so fortunately it may not be a problem. Right, the weather can be a game changer depending on how lucky you will be. Have to research more about this trail, thanks for providing the details. We´ll definitely let you know when we are going to plan this trail, thank you:) Have a great weekend!

    • @PhilMcKelliget
      @PhilMcKelliget 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WalkingNatureWorld There’s usually an area between the farmer’s field and the cliff edge which doesn’t seem belong to anyone but , as I said, you don’t know what it’s going to be like till you get there. There’s always the back of the beach, which is fine as long as there isn’t a high tide. And you can always ask at a farm - we’re rarely refused. But in the UK there are lots of small farm campsites which are cheap and have very basic facilities, you just need to know where they are. We’ve also camped at pubs on a few occasions but it’s kind of assumed that you’ll buy a few drinks and maybe a meal.

      I’ve been looking at trespass law in the UK. It’s quite complex but basically you can’t be prosecuted for trespassing on someone’s land. You can be prosecuted for any damage you do, though. The most power the landowner has is to ask you to leave and to accompany you off their land. So if you see a sign saying “Trespassers will be prosecuted” it’s all bluff. Having said that, if they really don’t want you there then they could get nasty regardless of the law, so steer clear of such places.

    Great video. Thanks. I have a question. Did you guys cook when you camped? Was it easy to find gas?

      Hi, thank you! Yes, we always cook when we camp and prefer to use gas but we did have some troubles finding it unfortunately so in the end had to go with the bigger container so that it can last longer.

    I realize your journey was a few years ago. But about how much was it to camp in designated sites? I would be doing the Camino Norte alone in the future. It appears as though Allbergues would be cheaper for 1 person. Of course I will have a poncho and hiking poles for an emergency shelter,....;) if i were to be caught between towns with a beautiful sunset near a forest.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the campsites were around 15-20eu per night for 2 people. For one person as soon as we remember it could be 10-15eu sometimes depending on the site. It is nice idea to take an emergency shelter anyway. And the albergues could be cheaper, it's true, if you prefer staying there.

      Hi, Carine, there were just several parts where we did a deviation from Camino that were more or less challenging(the cliff parts) but overall the way is not dangerous at all.

    The unknown structure at 5:10 is to lift red algae you see harvested at 5:16 on top of the cliff.

      Thanks a lot, happy you enjoyed watching our trip!:) We didn't use any website rather than just Google map and Maps.me app to plan our trip and we just marked the camping sites on our way and stopped in the ones that were closer and more convenient for us. But we do plan on sharing a separate blog post on our website with a list of camping sites we stopped and some suggestions. So keep an eye on that, we notify about all our posts on the Facebook page.

    I think the scenes are too short. You should edit some longer scenes in, next time. When you have a pretty view, we need some time to really enjoy it. Like this it's more like a collection of short scenes, with now and then a nice view, but just too short. The hiking scenes may be short, but the views should really be a bit longer. Don't be afraid to go around with the camera, 360 degrees if you wish, and really show it in the edited version. The music is good, photography is good. Commentary is okay. Just the editing, could be better. ;)
    31:57 Santiago de Compostela 590,0 km. We just don't get the time to read the sign. I had to pause it to see the distance. So even that scene is just too short. It should be twice, maybe three times as long. This is youtube. It's okay if your documentary turns out to take 5 hours.

      Hello, thanks for watching and your feedback, we appreciate it.
      We find that this topic is quite tricky and can be very subjective, very much depending on personal preferences. We personally also enjoy longer scenes and in our vlog style videos we try to include them as much as possible. For the sake of this video being somewhat around 1.5 hours long we had to make some shots shorter or not include at all. We did do it on purpose. First we made jsut a combination of all our 35 day vlogs from this Camino and it turned out to be 7 hours long which we believe may not be for everybody. So we decided to make a dedicated movie, write a script and choose the best shots out of Camino. We would take into consideration your opinion for our future documentaries and try to balance them better.
      We encourage you to watch our full time vlogs from the Camino if you do enjoy longer scenes and don't mind to spend more time. Let us know how you find it then.
      Thanks again for you comment and valuable feedback:)

      @@WalkingNatureWorld You're welcome. Indeed, it was meant only as constructive criticism. You got that right. :)
      I watch about 20 minutes a day. Mainly when the news gets too annoying, it's really relaxing to watch your video. I'll check out some of your other videos when I'm done with this one. Thanks for sharing this walk with us! :)
      I have traveled it myself once in a car. From Irún to Santiago de Compostela. And on to Fátima, and Málaga where I rented an appartment to stay for the winter. I didn't do it for religious purposes. Only for the sceneries, and for the trip itself. I passed by Lourdes too, but couldn't find a parking spot there. :) I've been to Porto, Coimbra, Lisbon, Badajoz, Elvas, Faro, ... all around Spain and Portugal. Nine months later I went back home, in the Netherlands, via another route. :)
      And thank you for your explanation, why you edited it the way you did. :)

      That's ok, we are always open for such criticism. In fact we feel like it is necessary to be able to see our work from a different angle and getting different feedback allows us to do it.
      That is amazing, it sounds like you had a great adventure! We did plan to visit Portugal this year and do some hiking there, but we guess it has to wait for the next year when everything hopefully calms down a bit. We were thinking about Rota Vicentina and maybe Coastal Camino as well. So all the Portugal travel advice is welcome :)
