- Fresh on the heels of our time at Jack Daniels we decided to crack open the newest Special Release for 2022 from them. We didn't know what to expect from this American single malt, but with it being in the same bottle that so many of our favorites have been in before we had high hopes.

JD just always killing it with the special releases! Glad you guys had a great time at JD. One of my best experiences at any distillery and town by far I have had was in Lynchburg.
Balcones Texas “1” Single Malt is one of my favorite American single malts that doesn't have the typical flavors. More darker fruits and some sweet notes. You guys should give it a try, it's really good stuff!
Been following you guys since day one. Cool too see you guys getting the recognition you deserve. Your channel is informative but also entertaining. Your chemistry is what makes each video!

I actually got a bottle of this at RETAIL! So freaking good it actually shocked me. Had a buddy come over and we drank almost half the bottle. JD is killing it with their special releases. Cheers gents.

Sounds wonderful. Single barrel from Virginia are starting to be a little older and we have a pick that is a hitter. Glad American Single malt is getting better. Cheers
I went to the Jack Daniel's distillery on a master distillers tour through the Tennessee Tech AiChe (Chemical Engineer Student) group back in 1997. One of the best experiences an American Whiskey aficionado can ever have. Been several times on the standard and the tasting tours over the years for business and for pleasure.

I agree this is amazing. If you can, you should try to get your hands on the cask strength Cuvee American Single Malt from Virginia Distillery Co. I’d say they’re both on the same playing field. Both super good.

Balcones does some really good single malts. If you can find Mirador, that's my favorite!

Not a fan of single malts honestly. But love coy hill and the single barrel barrel proof so I gave this one a try. Absolutely love it.
Ha, I had the opposite sequence, my first distillery tour was JD like 10 years ago and thought it was impressive and had the same expectation for other distilleries (oops). Did the Bowman distillery tour a few weeks ago and asked the guide, "where's the rest of it? this seems so tiny." That said, they did have two 2500 gallon stills, one pot and one column. Tour guide said the pot one was 1-of-3 ever made.
Will not ever see it in Texas, but I can taste it from your descriptions and Yum!

Thanks for the review! Would be curious to hear if you think the industry putting so many barrels down now, that in 15 years we will be seeing these special releases more readily available? I imagine if JD had a coy hill release every year and charged double what they do now they’d still sell out regardless of how available it is
This was my first dip into single malt. Are all single malts this good? I fell in love with this bottle and I am nearing the bottom of the bottle. I will be looking for another. I want them all to be this good, but I think my expectations might be too high. Great review as always. You guys have great chemistry and your conversations are fun to listen to.

It must be my palate, but all I get is fish oil, sherry, and a hint of bananas. And I LOVE single malt scotch.

You guys need to try Copper Fox American Single Malts or Virginia Distillers Single Malts.

I'm glad that it's good to you both. I expected it to be good but is it worth the price compared to what you can buy of a Scotch? With the hype and interest it had, I bet there's going to be a lot of disappointment. I've been telling people, it's not going to taste like Jack.

I do believe that the base whiskey is in the bonded triple mash. So in that case this should be at least 4 yr old.

100% malted barley isn't convincing anyone it's bourbon, but I don't think that's the intent with this one. I'd pay for a pour of it, but when I want to buy a bottle of single-malt, I just buy scotch (in the same way I'm not looking or an Islay or Speyside bourbon:).
Just won (the chance to buy) this at a raffle - never had American Single Malt, so not sure what I will think. What is another American Single Malt I should try before for comparison??
Who was your tour guide?
I thought it was overhyped. There are better American Single Malts out there for around the same price. It's not bad just average. The other heritage releases JD has come up with are better.
When the JDBP first came out, it was so good, I bought four bottles. I have seen it in a few years, and I saw a shelf full. I grabbed a bottle and it's not good at all, very dry and astringent. Totally different from the first batch. 😥
The barrel proof are single barrels. Going to be a huge variance
Sadly, I’ve got a terrible mental block regarding JD from a bad decision in college. Perhaps this stuff could help me overcome it.
Have loved all the JD Single Barrels and Special Releases-except this one. So far it's the first American Single Malt I've tried, and I suspect that I just don' t like that style of whiskey.
The youthy, grain foward american single malt... is it high west? I feel like its gotta be about high west high country
Local store (museum) has this and Coy Hill sitting top center behind the register figh-hundy each…hard pass

I know this is different from a single malt, but have you guys tried any of the Starlight Sherry finished stuff? Delicious.
We've had a good amount of starlight stuff, even the stuff we're not crazy about there is always people that do love it.

You guys do a great job with this channel,. but I got to admit that I am growing tired of every single bottle seeming to be a unicorn. I know you cannot just have a channel reviewing WT101, but these exclusive releases are just getting annoying. Nobody is ever getting any of these at retail price.
