The songs meaning according to singer Myles Kennedy - "Blackbird was inspired lyrically by a friend of mine named Mark Morse. He sold me my first guitar when i was a kid , and we stayed friends for years and years. He actually passed away as the song was being completed so it was dedicated to him amd his memory. It's really about seeing the suffering he was going through and hoping he would find his solace soon and be free from all of that".
That guitar solo is done first half more bluesy by vocalist Myles Kennedy and second half - more technical and shreddy by lead guitarist Mark Tremonti! The solo serves the song in that, it expresses musically what words / lyrics cannot ….
The bluesy part is sheer crying out and sadness of loss; while the technical part shifts from also crying out towards anger! And then the chorus kicks in right after to once again exalt and celebrate in the beauty and life of the lost loved one, knowing that they are now in a better place!
Awesome composition and musicianship this song is!
Great band💪
It’s not really blues though in the scale or sequence of notes by Miles, it’s just that there’s emotion and soul behind the vibrato and phrasing. We could link everything back to blues until we’re blue in the face, but sometimes art forms are their own thing.
Yup, I am definitely a lyric guy...but also a guitar guy lol..I love the songs that are hard but also can evoke an emotional response...
Great reactions and I'm happy you enjoyed them!
Sammy the legend continues to spread the AB word
Welcome to the Sphere. You're definitely going to have a nice ride when Sammy unleashes all of AB😂 I'm excited. They are my favorite band as well. Nice reaction ❤
One word describes this song….masterpiece. Musically, lyrically just on its own level.
This song is epic in so many ways...a song of sadness and also hope, amazing vocals and killer guitars...
❤️❤️
Sammy you are the man bro, Where you from and how old are you
Welcome to Alter Bridge, the best band in the world
This song is a 10/10 masterpiece, it always hits me right in the feels musically and lyrically
These guys are amazing, especially live! They're right behind Tool for me! You got to do Metalingus next!
The Blackbird album is my favorite album by Alter Bridge.
Same here
Fortress for me
One of the greatest guitar solos of all time
A double solo at that! They worked perfectly together.
Fire 🔥 is spot on. What a track!!❤
This song has what is starting to become widely regarded 2 of the best guitar solos of all time.
I discovered this song a few days ago no lie lol just started getting into metal I’ve always been more rap rnb
These guys are SO GOOD! You can’t go wrong with any Alter Bridge.
The slower blusey solos are played bt the singer Myles Kennedy and the faster more technical solos are played by Mark Tremonti. Both are very capable players.
I missed this song, thank you for reminding me of it.
Alter bridge has a fantastic catalog you should dig deep.
My favourites are In loving memory, life must go on, ghost of days gone by, metallingus
Don't worry, Sammy's on it 😂
Love your reaction! You reacted every detail in the song, fantastic! And also I love the way you enjoyed the song too.
Hey man, the live from wembley version of this song captures the emotion so much and Myles explains the meaning of the song in the beginning before going on and playing the song
Great reaction! This song means A LOT to me and obviously many others. People sleep on Alter Bridge, which I think is criminal. So underrated…but they are amazing! Just wait, you’ll see. Lol
I love this song for many reasons. Another song you would love by Alter Bridge is Words Darker Than Their Wings.
Blackbird on that Song its about his passed away friend, friend wich sold him his very first guitar when we was young
This album has been considered one of the best of all time
People don’t ever realize that he holds the word “again” for a solid 30 seconds
8:22. It’s not really blues though in the scale or sequence of notes by Miles, it’s just that there’s emotion and soul behind the vibrato and phrasing. We could link everything back to blues until we’re blue in the face, but sometimes art forms are their own thing. And should be appreciated as such.
Blame my lack of vocabulary for that..because how you explained it should be how I say it in a video
I wouldn't be surprised if someone has recommended it already, but Myles Kennedy, the lead singer, has a couple solo CDs out. Well, he has three and as much of a fan as I am, I haven't listened to the first one. But it predates Alter Bridge and he has two solo albums out after the band formed. One is Year of the Tiger and the other is Ides of March. His sound on those albums are more bluesy rather than the rock sound of Alter Bridge.
Man, you don't miss anything. The lyrics, the layering, everything. One of the best modern heavy rock bands today. Super under-rated. Great reaction.
BTW, the lead singer played the bluesy part and the lead guitarist finished it off with a little shredding in the crescendo.
Blackbird represents DEATH in the song
Long before they've seen their day means died far to young
Tremonti is guitarist for alterbridge

Boi, if i had known you were on this.... I have no money, but try out the From One album by Ra on your own time. You wont be disappointed. A general rule of thumb in alternative rock is "Alter Bridge is the best band no one ever listens to, and Ra is the best band no one's ever heard of."
Sooner you'll be new born AB fan man . Sammy get this dude to babtism
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The 'Blackbird' is just one bird, but there are tons "black birds"
You're one of them
You're one of them
