They can follow the "cannon" (i.e. the original series, book or film) or just take the characters in order to create a completely new universe. Also, the author can decide to pair characters from the series to create non-canonical ships. Is it more clear now?

This show is a masterpiece from beginning to (current) end. I completely agree with Brian about making the transition of Hannigram’s relationship natural and not forced. Their love is based on beauty and understanding, not simply sex. Regardless of sexuality or lack thereof, I do hope their romantic relationship is explored canon because it is incredibly prevalent and intense. I especially love how their relationship is intoxicating, but it is not the only shining aspect of the show, as the entire plot and the gore are so strong.. PLEASE BRING A SEASON 4!!!!

Hannibal, Season 4, Episode 1, Opening Scene...you see a pair of Crocs (a stylish, yet tasteful sky blue I feel), the camera begins to pan up, you see socks (100% cotton of course, I feel just white, keep it simple and clean), the camera pans back and up and you see Hannibal stepping out of his abode on a hot Summer day in Cuba, I feel a nice pair of cargo/Khaki shorts and an equally clean and crisp sky blue half-sleeve shirt to match his Crocs ;-)! That is what I got out of the Zoom Reunion LOL!

The season 3 ending was satisfying and was brilliantly done. The scene where Will and Hannibal killed the dragon was cinematic and gave me chills...i couldn't imagine a better ending. With that being said....i am still all for season 4! Mads Mikkelsen is way toooo underrated and I've never understood that...
I would love to see the process of Gillians Anderson's last dinner...in season 4.
Exactly how I feel. Hannibal has one of the best, if not the best, series finales of all time, so if it never comes back, it has an eminently satisfying ending and tells a complete story. That said, I would love to see where these characters would go next, and I think there's more story to tell. So bring on season four!

That's the thing it was just cinematically beautiful. The writing and dialogue and plot and acting were like a spell cast after the dazzling imagery. What you saw and heard in the show captivated and struck you what happened to the characters *entrapped* you. That's why I'll always recomend it

Biggest problem NBC has already Green lighted a similar series called Clarice. Also lets give NBC a lot of credit for running three season of this great show on Network TV. It took guts by someone. So I would not rule out Clarice maybe being very good. If you know the cannon of the Hannibal story, she comes in pretty soon.

You know what's more depressing and saddening than the fact that we are aching for the fourth season? I've watched an interview where Bryan said that the show was supposed to be 7 seasons long. He had prepared the scripts with Hannibal being on overseas for quite sometimes on the midth seasons and Red Dragons fight would be the final season. But, because of the declining viewers on the show, NBC cut all the budgets and decided to end it with 3 season only. That's why Bryan wrapped all the remaining seasons into the season 3. It pissed me off so badly because I love his writing style and the way he and their team making the production of the show. I've been a fan of Thomas Harris' Red Dragon before the show exists and I'm convinced they did the books justice. I also love the potrayal of Hannibal by Mads Mikkelsen and his chemistry with Hugh Dancy. That Scandinavian man definitely the perfect adapted Hannibal of all the franchises (no disrespect to Anthony Hopkins tho, I like his Hannibal but Mads more exquisite and uniquely interesting). I love the domestic Hannibal and him being potrays as a gentleman, observant, psychiatrist, chef, artist, musician, and being perfect on almost everything like the books. Hannibal would always be my favorite villain of all the time. I wish some networks would pick this show back on screen.

I have watched the series three times now ( the first time when it originally aired) and every time by the end I always experience a whirlwind of emotions. Sadness and euphoria…revelry at the beauty and symbolism…the rawness and joy in the cultivation of many characters journeys. But I always feel sort of numb after; just like you said. I think it’s a certain level of heartbreak that it’s over. It’s witnessing the crescendo of Hannibal and Will “seeing” each other fully for the first time and embracing, but to witness that revelation and acceptance fall off the cliff side. Is utterly gut wrenching for the audience. There has been no other television show that had affected me in such a capacity. I doubt there ever will be again.

The Hannibal series is the best series I have ever seen. The end of season 3 was so incredible - I have never watched something so beautiful, cinematic and breathtaking, yet so evil, dark, and saddening. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! If there is a season 4 I’m going to lose my mind.

I only knew about this show a month ago before it streamed Netflix and I was amazed by that profound carefully thought dialogue, and cinematography. That ceaseless maneuvres of wickedness and righteousness while casually crossing the thin blurry wiggling line between them..as much as it pains me to say it but this ending is perfectly rational.. Will orchestrating his demise and Hannibal's as his righteous way of doing things makes sense ..but BAOWH as soon as I finished it hit Netflix and a possibility for its restoration is renewed and I don't mind it : ))

This is torture.Don't watch this show.It infact..Will drive you insane.That is,because it's very excellently written and played out.Its simply not enough.after 3 season you will be left empty and sad wanting for more...True hell!No other show will replace this one.A True gem.I want season 4 so bad..me and my comrades have been waiting for 5 years now..the end is very evident.Season 4 is a mirage in a hot desert but we can do nothing but run towards it with hope...This show is irreplaceable..so good and amazing that makes me wish I never found it...

I've been waiting for another season for almost five years at this point, and I'll wait another five if I have to!! It's literally one of the best, most beautiful and cinematic masterpieces to come out within the last decade. Such a shame it got cancelled so soon, but I'm so grateful that Bryan gave us such an incredible show. This reunion will probably hold me over for the next five years!! #SAVEHANNIBAL

Speaking as an Asexual, I am wholly on board with the Asexual take on Hannibal and Will's love. I'm always disillusioned that everyone thinks men cannot love each other even with the intimate touches that Hannibal gives to Will in the series, without automatically thinking, 'Yeah, they're gay.' It washes over the intense depth of what men CAN feel. I see Hannibal the way Mads sees him. There's this beautiful mind, beautiful young man and he does fall in love with him, but not in a sexual way. He has someone now he can be truly himself with, without secrets. During the last scene when Hannibal and Will are fighting the Red Dragon there's that moment of eye-to-eye connection where Hannibal, I think, is telepathically communicating to Will, "Now's the time. stop fighting against yourself." And Will understands in that moment exactly what Hannibal means and the two work at defeating their enemy together as one mind. It's morbid, it's twisted, but in their case this is a love story that can break open stereotypes of how deeply men CAN feel towards each other, despite what terrible things they've done or will do. It's not really about the killing, as much as it is being true to one's nature and finding in another a companion who finally, as Mads, says: Sees him. I write male love stories, and I veer very far away from sexual encounters, instead regarding the soul-depth love as being more than enough. Be they straight or gay, to me it's about that soul connection, no matter how tainted or blood-soaked it is. In this series, I found a compelling and, dare I say it, beautiful romance between two men. It fascinated me as well as tugged at my heart.

I'm AFAB (Agender), but though I am unable to feel a connection between men and women or women and women, I am very much able to feel the love between men. I've been that way since I was a child. When I see connections such as this, despite the macabre plot surrounding it, I can feel it deep in my soul. I think Hannibal needs the heart that Will has in order to find a bit of himself in something other than his own reality. And Will needs Hannibal to help him balance his own tormented mind between what is light and dark. Regardless of the outcome, I'm enamored by their love/hate, hate/love, and love/hate connection. And I love the physical intimacy they share when it happens.

While I fully respect your opinion/headcanon about Will and Hannibal’s relationship being non-sexual, may I counter; with all the fellatio and c*ck sucking innuendos that they act out, it without a doubt feels like they’re portraying a sexual relationship between those two freaks.
this was so perfectly written, this is EXACTLY how I feel about them as well! i feel like their relationship has just transcended beyond a sexual relationship, and making it sexual would feel so cheap somehow and diminish the profoundness of their bond (though I wouldn't really complain if brian fuller did choose to make it explicitly sexual). I'm asexual too, and I'm not oblivious to what sex is, which is a common assumption about asexuals, so i do enjoy sexual content; its just that i know when a relationship should or shouldn't be sexual. there are so many cases in shows where a relationship DID go sexual, and i noticed how their relationship lost a little bit of their value, so im so happy how they portrayed will and hannibal's relationship, this back-and-forth, cat-and-mouse game, this deep understanding, this intense passion and tension, but its not sexual. you cant categorize what kind of relationship theirs is anymore; like i said before, it transcends all other relationships. they're far closer than platonic friends, they don't NEED sex to show how deep their connection is, and the romantic undercurrent doesn't have to be explicit to be visible. hannibal and will honestly have the most beautiful connection I've ever seen.
I think so too. I'm actually fascinated with love stories like these between cishet men because we all know how society views that and all the stigma and shit. I find it beautiful whenever two men (or women) are unapologetically proud of what they feel. It's rare to see a tv series like this as I usually find them in novels.
