  • In this video, we're introducing the newest member of the AviationFix fleet. We fly down to rescue OUR airplane that has been sitting for 3 years! We hate to see airplanes sitting, and we love it when they get rescued and fixed. People like Jimmy's World and Rebuild Rescue are doing awesome things, and we're excited to (sort of) add to this airplane rescue trend. 3 years ago we sold our beloved family airplane of 25 years, a Cherokee 140, to buy the AviationFix Cherokee Six. Now, with Josh working on flight training, we tracked the owner down and convinced him to sell the Cherokee 140 back to us! We're excited to gradually fix our rescued airplane up, and upgrade it for the future. We hope you love this airplane rescue journey, and please stay tuned for more videos soon! As always, it helps us so much if you comment, like the video, and subscribe. Remember, don't forget to get YOUR aviation fix!

Wow! What a great story! I still search and keep track of my first plane which was also a 140. Now to the quality of the video. Probably the best storytelling, photography and editing to date. Fantastic job!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, Ed! Awesome to hear that you follow along with your first plane. We're hoping to continue increasing the production quality of our videos in the future, and we want to put an emphasis on storytelling for our trips.

Thanks for another very fine video.
My family flying memories go back to the late fiftys. My Dad and oldest Brother were both pilots. In those days you could buy a nice used J3 Piper cub for under $900 and fuel was 25 cents a gallon. When I started taking flying lessons I rented a Piper Super Cub for $8.00 and hour and that included the fuel! The flight instructor charged $4.00 and hour. I sololed in 7 hours, which cost me $84.00!
    Keep those videos coming!

Wow, those are some amazing stories in aviation you have there! Thank you for following along with our journey. Are there any particular types of videos you'd like to see? Airplane tours, technical videos, trips, etc?

G,day from Sydney Harbour Australia. Nice short film, I draw a likeness to Aviation 101.
    * Did you take the spake plugs out for the borescope inspection?
    * Did you notice a change in voltage with the illumination panel lighting (wire insulation softened)?
    * Topped up with oil: is the plane using oil?

Hi John. We did take a look in the cylinders as much as we could with the bore scope. As for the electrical issues - these stemmed from issues with the beacon. It must have put some kind of load on the rest of the lighting. They were weird, but they're all fixed now. As for the oil - no, it's not using any more than normal. I'd say maybe a quart every 8-10 hours. We just were getting used to the plane again and realize now that we were probably trying to keep the oil higher than the plane likes it. Seems to like to sit between 5.5 - 6 quarts.

Looks like a great memory making trip...What year is the 140? I am thinking it's about the same year as our 1968 ,180..I am excited to hear what plans you might have for avionics upgrade...Nice looking plane!! Congratulations !!

Hi, David! It's a 1970 model year. We don't have any specific avionics chosen right now, but we plan to get it comfortably equipped for light ifr. Something along the lines of a Garmin 175 or 355 first. Maybe an autopilot at some point. We have a digital fuel totalizer that we're installing during the annual here soon. What do you have in your 180?

@@AviationFix Ours is still a basic panel much like yours..The difference is ours has an outdated Apollo gx50 that was rated for ifr enroute only..I just recently had and engine monitor and fuel flow installed at last annual..It was a G2 that basically does CHT,EGT, fuel flow , fuel remaining, OAT, and carb Temp..i believe the whole thing cost me around around $1800..But I would love to upgrade to IFR also at some point..still looking at options and looking for funds to pay for it!!!😜

@@davidpeight4115 Sounds like you're doing some nice incremental upgrades. I'm thinking we might put an engine monitor in at the next overhaul. The open slot in our panel used to be a LORAN, if you can believe it!
