- So, this Terraria weapon is finally worth using… The Venus Magnum. In this video, I take a look at this post Plantera melee weapons which for the longest of times has been quite the underwhelming weapon. But now after the 1.4.4 update, a 'rework' has completely resurrected the weapon due to the addition of auto fire. This pretty much turns the gun into an upgraded Uzi. I think this is how it should have been from the beginning as nobody wants to manually fire a post Plantera weapon, especially when it has such ludicrous fire rate potential too! You should give it a try!

it is 150% better then the uzi also u can easily defeat golem and lunatic cultist so vortex beater can be immediatly obtained if u are just playing expert mode

You are constantly talking about weapons/armor balance, and, often an important part of that topic is discussing how the equipment fits into the progression, and so on. Obviously, it's a vital part of the discussion, but, it got me thinking... and, i think inspired by the wand of sparking changes in the zenith seed... Basically, i'm thinking that if you increased the defense of armor, or the relative damage of a weapon, then it can be made to work a lot longer throughout the game. So, what do you think of the idea of adding a new perma-buff, like the minecart boost from the mech bosses, except this one requires you to farm maybe moonlord, and, then you get the endgame item enhancer. It would then basically do just that... boost defence or damage of any items whose damage or defence is useless in the endgame. This way, for example, you can pick your summons based on appearance, and have hornets who can keep up with the star dragon. Or, you can boost the defence on your obsidian armor, and run a whip heavy endgame set, or, you can simply take a weapon whose firing pattern you enjoy, and bring them back at the endgame. It could be as simple as giving the player an increase of defence / damage%, maybe attack speed etc, relative to the output currently, so it'd have a rough idea of what an endgame defence for each class should be like, and it'll bring the defence up to that. Same for damage, but, it would be a key thing that the items should be available only after essentially completing the game, as it is something which fits best for replayability post moonlord and could unsettle the progression of the bosses if allowed beforehand.
I always liked the venus magnum before too, I especially enjoyed the fact that it was only semi-automatic, since it felt great to fire as a revolver.
Honestly I would have kept it semi-automatic and just boosted the base damage.
I'm one of those people who really like to click fire even some autofire weapons if they don't have really fast attack speed or really good homing.

I used the Venus magnum in my recent Legendary mode play through. Its actually a staple in the ranger kit now. I actually used venus until i got the vortex beater.

well the high velocity bullets are pretty good, pair it with a musket pouch and you can do some serious damage infinitely

*Advice to farm Life Fruit and Plantera Bulbs:* in pre hardmode (before killing the Wall of Flesh) make your Queen Bee arena the size of a Plantera Arena (to kill 2 birds with 1 stone) and also make long mud tunnels from left to right, that way when you beat the mecs, it's more likely Life Fruit and Plantera Bulbs will spawn close to your arena, the tunnels can be digged up or below the arena to get easy access to them.

@@glassofwater5140 Hey that why bombs are your best friend, specially the dessert bombs crafted with fossil, those ones make an straight tunnel based on the direction you threw them.
I think the Autofire changed how a lot of weapons are gonna be used from now on, since now you can just keep pressed the mouse button, this changes the performance of all the weapons to attack more consistent in general, and I love it.
I agree, I think they regulated non auto fire to pre-hardmode for the most part which is nice. Call me out if I'm wrong.

Tbh I wish the Venus Magnum was a dart gun. This point in progression suffers from gun bloat, and the last dart guns available are pre-mech. Also I think it would be thematically amusing to be able to fire seeds with it - maybe even be able to transform them into a special projectile that’s similar to Plantera’s seeds.
That’s actually really funny, the idea of a huge magnum pistol with a use time of 50, and it shoots little seeds. I do agree with you on gun bloat, the magnum is basically just a higher damage Uzi with bullet spread, and spread barley matters when bullet meta is all about homing. Honestly I wish darts just got more content, even though 1.4 and 1.4.4 were all about finishing off terraria, darts still feel weirdly under utilized.
I always loved the Venus magnum: if you could get over the manual firing, it was really good and really fun to use. In its current state though, it feels way too powerful. The fire rate is fine, but the problem is its damage: its DPS outclasses every other gun until the vortex beater, besides maybe the chain gun if you're using chlorophyte bullets on a single target. That being said, I think the only change it needs is to its damage, and maybe very slightly to its fire rate. All of the other guns post-plantera feel very gimmicky, and I'm glad to see a fast firing, accurate gun finally exist at this part of the game that isn't the megashark. For balance, I think changing its damage closer to what it was in 1.3 would be perfect: perhaps 38-40? This way, I think it would still remain powerful for the post-plantera game, but not overshadow the other guns in this stage of progression.

Please please look at the Seedler. It's Terraria's most neglected sword and yet is still a crafting ingredient for the Zenith, as if to imply that it's equally as important as the Terra Blade. It is so forgotten that it didn't dven get a buff in 1.4.4
The Venus Magnum also pairs exceptionally well with Crystal Bullets due to its high fire rate, and when paired with Ichor, can deal an absolutely stupid amount of damage

It was about time this was revised. The Venus even _looks_ like a machine pistol, it was dumb for it not to be full-auto.

I feel like part of the reason the venus magnum wasn't autonfire for so long is that is WASN'T and upgrade to the uzi, it was an upgrade to the handgun and pheonix blaster. Its design looks more like a pistol, similar to the handgun and pheonix blaster, wheras an uzi is an SMG.
soemthing videos like these make me think about (along with the labor of love update) is some armors that feel left behind. The original hardmode ores need some love I feel. There are so many possibilities for set bonuses but nothing has been changed! Interesting thought I think.
I agree. I'm always disappointed to get the OG hardmode ores because they have no cool effects to them like the newer ones (Palladium alone is amazing)
I always liked this weapon a lot. Now it is even really strong. Couldnt be happier.
ive found deadelus stormbow+ holy arrows and megashark+ ichor bullets to beat fishron for the tsunami is a rlly easy combo to get the tsunami preplantera so that you can shred it to get the venus magnum quicker. venus magnum and tsunami is a perfect combo even for moon lord in your ranger runs

The only people who actually considered using this weapon the most when it was released was the mobile community during 1.2 since one of the most popular videos was ironically killing Duke Fishron with the Venus Magnum and chlorophyte bullets
The venus magnum isn't "worth using" now, it's "overpowered" now. This thing is like, the biggest reason I don't like the introduction of an autofire toggle. There are weapons that are kinda crazy whose only source of balance is a lack of autofire, and this is one of them.
It does good dps but nothing insane compared to other post-plantera weapons. And being limited by how fast you can click is not good balancing for any weapon
if you want carpal tunnel you can always turn off auto fire.
Me though? Ill keep my auto fire tsunami from now on.

They nerfed its use time for adding autofire, don't think it's overpowered, it's a bit better than tactical shotgun (at least you can use any bullets with it, not only chlorophyte), still weaker than chain gun for example.
Man, I never remember getting one at all. Sure, not much a ranged player, but plantera got so much drops that we can pass a lot of time without getting something we want. That and the inconsistency of the bulb placement makes it not a good Boss to farm. That's a shame, because is one of those fights I enjoy doing.

The piercing and amazing performance with clorophyte bullets makes it a very good weapon to use in any ranger playthrough
I have fond memories using this as my endgame weapon in mobile 1.2, where you had autofire on everything
Prior to 1.2.4 this was probably the best weapon in the game for mobile

I am still torn with the Venus magnum update because on one hand it is a lot better now but on the other hand it is now just another generic fast auto firing gun just like the rest. Though it was inconvenient before, it was at least unique and very effective if you had the patience to use it.
Actually one of my favorite moments in my first calamity run was taking advantage of auto fire accessories to turn the Venus magnum into a beast

Thanks for the up to date video, when I search for Plantera, it alway displace outdated 1 years strategy where plantera doesn't shot projectile.
I think what they should do with it is to make it have both semi and automatic fire at the same time. To elaborate, have you ever used a gun in a different game that had faster semi fire rate than the automatic fire rate? Basically, the gun has auto fire, but if you so choose, you can spam the button to fire bullets much faster. So as to make people who don’t have fast trigger fingers still have decent fire rate but giving those who do have trigger fingers much more damage. That and maybe even a small little damage or crit chance bonus to add to it. I don’t know, it was just an idea that I wanted to put out there.
Honestly, I feel like in this update, Re-Logic took notes from calamity. A bunch of buffed weapons there got buffed in vanilla, and the venus magnum is no excpetion.
"If you're playing mage, use the Crystal Serpent or the Magical Harp" Or the Zappinator, due to just 150 at the higher tier reforges causing massive damage if you get lucky
For mage against plantera the rainbow rod is way better than the magic harp, the intense homing, piercing and AOE end explosion makes it the perfect weapon at that stage and you can get it at the same time as the harp and the crafting recipe is over all better in my opinion.
You goddamn right there! Harp is more suited for dealing with large group of enemies and events, so actually both of them are worth to get.
@@heretic926 while the harp is way better for events you can handle pretty much all the events with the rod pretty well too.
Even though the harp is better, I still personally see little to no reason to get it when weapons like the golden shower can deal with events and is very useful outside of them too or you can just use the rainbow rod for the events, since it can hit up to 3 targets. Both are good enough for any event at that stage, so I don't see much reason to grind for an event specific weapon that you'll replace right after plantera with the shadowbeam staff or magnet sphere. So I personally always skip it because the recipe is really material intensive especially the crystal amount.
I know this was a pretty small part of the video, but the recommendation for the Uzi against Plantera really caught me off guard. At that point in the game, the MegaShark is basically an upgrade, it has a bit more dps, is more accurate, and conserves ammo. The only thing the Uzi has over it is 5 more base damage, but if you’re worried about defense, just use the Onyx Blaster at that point.
The main selling point of the Uzi in my eyes is being able to use high velocity bullets pre mech, but by Plantera it’s outclassed by a lot of things. Again this is pretty small but it felt odd, so I had to add my extremely important and valuable opinion to this matter.
The Venus Magnum finally got the recognition it deserves. Nuff said.
I feel like it would've been more interesting if they made it fire 6 burst shots kind of like the clockwork assault rifle, since it's a magnum and would've realistically probably had a 6 shot cylinder

A weapon that always was worth it is the Sandgun; that thing has RIDICULOUS DPS for when you get it in the game, pre-boss
I cannot begin to express my thanks for this update! I've always loved the Venus Magnum and to finally see it receive the love it deserves is nothing short but brilliant, cause in the previous installments it's been nothing short of a horrible disappointment...To constantly click, just to fire it most certainly felt like an uber-pistol of sorts! When I got the Venus Magnum in the new update, boy howdy could it leave a mark on most bosses! Pair it up with various ammo types and it's going to shred through single-target enemies without so much of an issue!
Imagine beating the game with it. I bet it can be made possible with the proper gear!

I did my first real playthough last year as ranger and I was so disappointed when the Venus magnum was so underwhelming. I wish it had its buff back then
Really liking the content. I use to be an avid player of Terraria, but I got so bad, I can't defeat Moon Lord anymore. (couldn't solo in general) I bought this game in 2011. This thing was like, WAY better than Minecraft. How could I not play it? I ended up just watching TH-cam videos, Like chippy gaming and Viking. But since you been popping up in my recommended, might as well give you a subscribe and like. 100k let's go.
as ranger i use chlorophyte shotbow with holy arrows, it required less rng to get them and ive even used chloro shotbow with holy arrows to clear pillars on mm so if you dont get the uzi drop the shotbow is a good option instead

Using autofire has gave me reason to use more weapons. And like most weapons unless its the go to kind for X class i wont go out of my way to get it.
I used this weapon religiously and shamelessly every playthrough before this update and I'm glad it's getting recognized
Back on the mobile 1.2 version, I used the Venus Magnum on my ranger play through since there was auto fire on everything. It shredded enemies and with the max critical strike approach I went for, it was great.
These videos are neat, but one thing I might comment on is that the titles are quite samey. I get that it's playing the TH-cam game (and respect the grind, etc.) and paired with the thumbnail we can tell what you're talking about, but the titles themselves don't really show anything at all, beyond "this thing I'm talking about is might be different to its past reputation" or "I think this weapon is cool."
Yeah I know what you mean! I’ve experimented with more descriptive titles in the past but nowhere near as many people click on them, so I’ve kinda been following the same formula for a while

On 3ds, where every weapon except the sniper rifle is autofire, i still barely used this weapon due to other weapons like the post plantera dungeon weapons or fishron’s drops

Also for summoners a whip recommended to use for plantera would be the firecracker as it will inflict the hellfire debuff and each attack by the summon will result in loads more damage from the blazing energy debuff it inflicts. The firecracker is dropped by the wall of flesh
Also it would be cool if you did a video over this weapon because it is one of the best whips up until post Moonlord when battling bosses
i hadn’t played ranger before 1.4 so i just got it at full power and was like “yo this rocks”
it was great up until lunatic cultist where i noticed the damage penalty on homing weapons meant guns just weren’t very useful, but soon after i got the vortex beater and phantasm so it worked out fine for me.

This was always my favorite item in the game despite rarely, if ever, using it. For a while it was even my username on steam and Skype back in the day
I’d say that instead, it should’ve been given a burst fire like the clockwork assault rifle personally, and maybe a buff to debuff targets somehow, but I’m happy with this buff since the weapon has needed one for a while.

I remember back when I first played terraria I used the non auto fire venus magnum on the expert mode tier 3 old one's army. It didn't have auto fire. I still beat it lol
The venus magnum always had this potential, if you were good at any type of rapid clicking of your mouse, for example butterfly clicking, it really was an upgrade to the usi if only slightly at that time, The autofire isn't that big of a buff but now the weapon is more accessible than ever
Can you make one for book of skulls it's a good mage weapon in pre hard mode and you get it from skeletron
After no-lifing Calamity, seeing the vanilla pre-Plantera weapon choices makes me smile lol
i'll leave my impressions on this video, just in case it is of any help to you: i clicked the video wanting to know WHY is it worth using the venus magnum now, so i expected to see a video talking about the venus magnum, where you get it, how it was before, and how it is now, confronting that to justify why it is worth using now, but instead, almost the entire first half of the video was a very VERY begginer aimed guide on how to beat plantera, instead of focusing on the item in question, so i would just jump straight to the point after i was done explaining what it was and where to get it
A lot of my viewers are quite new to Terraria which is why I include this segment in my videos :)
I use it from plantera up to the chain gun, its basically just a megashark upgrade
It was really amazing before the update and nobody talked about it just because they didn't want to spam their mouse like crazy but I did
i first got this on my 1.4 modded playthrough (i think) and i really liked it, it's a pretty good weapon
i think it would be more interesting to give it a damage buff but keep it manual fire. It got it's bad reputation for it being semi automatic, I think they should keep that to make it somewhat unique but give it higher dps potential for people that are fine with having to click really fast
Back when me and the boys played Terraria on mobile around 2015 to 2016 or 2017 we preferred using this Gun on PVP it was on par with the Chain Gun at the time. Of course me being the one who actually farmed the loots i had the chain gun 😂

I learned how to click fast by using this gun. Started out hating it, used it way past it's use time because I began to love it so much. Perhaps it's just that I spent so long using it the old way that it feels cheap when it automatically fires. I mean, it is a magnum, for goodness sake. It shouldn't have auto-fire.

My main weapon for a long time on my IOS playthrough was the Venus Magnum, cus it dealt high damage and had relatively high fire rate. Glad to know that it's now viable on PC, as well. That being said, I was a bedwars player at one point, so pre 1.4.4 was never an issue for me
I think the Terra Blade is better to kill plantera than the death sickle, although a megashark and teleporters is the best method.
*on PC, on Mobile it worked really good since Autofire was avalible on Mobile before PC
I've played terraria since release. I've beeten the game over 100times, using ever possible class. And still I can say, I never knew this weapon existed.

I think clicking fast is a 'magnum' part of the gaming experience. I think they should have just made the damage greater so that it has a higher damage capacity for those who like to click and at least passable for normal users. actually, maybe it auto-fires at a slower rate but you can manually fire it faster. though, I get that auto-fire is toggleable more for accesability at this point.
If it's not autofire it could have at least shot chlorophyte bullets by default

You actually forget the most forgotten weapon it's called copper short sword, its soo OP but can't kill moon lord.
Auto fire setting made feral claws useless and now their only use is to craft berserker glove/fire gauntlet
