    Jason, I just cannot tell you how much this video sped up the process of editing about 20h of my first painting class with voice over. You are absolute genius! I love all of your content and together with Casey you just saved my life on working on DaVinci Resolve. So grateful that I can use this amazing program thanks to you instead of spending hundreds of £ every month to use simpler program.
    You are an absolute game changer!!!
    Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏🤗💞

    I'm sensing a trend here. Once again, I delve into the Resolve pdf manual for about a half hour without really getting what I need, then come to TH-cam, call up one of Jason's videos, and get everything I *really* need in 11:14. Thanks, Jason - you do a nice, focused and informative video.

    My days, what is this witchcraft!!!!! You, sir, have just given me HOURS of my life back. I've been keyframing volume drops, and I HATE doing it. I suspected there would be a way around this, but only just thought to look. Thanks so much for your very detailed and concise video - STILL relevant in Resolve 18 BTW

  • @dhruvdalvi5980

    Never knew that you could do this so easily in Resolve. All this time I have been lowering the volume of the music track to its bare minimum to avoid key framing. I guess I need to try audio ducking. Thanks a lot for sharing this technique! Also, I appreciate the fact that you explained all the controls such as attack, hold and release. Great video!

    Amazing tutorial, Jason! For TOOOO long, I've been manually adding keyframes to my audio track, finely adjusting them, copying and pasting them over and over.... wish I had known this was an option! The Fairlight page seems to be a very underrated part of Resolve, I'm definitely going to begin exploring it more and taking advantage of its functions like audio ducking. Well done!

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I’ve been using this method for a long time and it works great. You just have to work with your settings - attack, hold and release to get it to work the way you want, save it as a preset then just apply it anytime you need it. It’s a great tool. Huge timesaver over using key frames manually. 😁👍 thanks for watching!

    • @JasonandaCamera
      @JasonandaCamera 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JasonYadlovski Yeah I was playing around with it as I watched you, there's certainly a lot of trial and error that will go into finding the right balance depending on the type of audio you're working with. Are there one or two other features of Fairlight you really love and think not a lot of people know? Frankly that whole page is a bit daunting to me, I don't know where to explore first :D

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are tons of great features in Fairlight. I love audio stuff - I mix live music for a worship band - so a lot of stuff translates right into Fairlight. I’ve got a whole playlist on Fairlight and audio in Resolve. Check it out if you have time.

    Thanks so much for this! The only thing I don't like about the compressor method is it doesn't get out of the way until after the source starts - sometimes in ducking it sounds good for the music to ramp down just before the desired source begins.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome! I hear that. I think you have a good point. But with dialing in the settings I think it can get pretty good. You can use 3rd party VST plugins too that may change the way the ducking works. Thanks for watching!

    • @gopolarisstudio
      @gopolarisstudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonYadlovski In Premiere their ducking feature basically just auto-generates keyframes of the Volume parameter. Do you know if there's any way for Davinci to do that? Auto generate keyframes on the volume handle that's on the audio clip? Just asking - I didn't think there was but I don't know much about Davinci, haha.
      Thanks again, take care.

    This is really Great! Thank you so much for posting this! I have a question though. What happens if you have multiple tracks of music that you want to duck? My apologies if that was already covered in another video.

      Awesome, glad the videos, helpful! If you have multiple tracks you want to duck just make sure you turn on send in the dynamics panel for all the tracks you want to duck under and on the tracks you want to duck, turn on the listen button in the dynamics panel. 👍

    Awesome videos, easy understand... can you possibly tell me what the effect is called when you pause the video for a second and highlight a key object you referring too while having everything else slightly dimmer. do you maybe have a video on how to do said effect..?

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for checking out the video! It’s not a specific effect, I actually do that in a program called Screenflow for Mac. When editing, it allows you to select certain areas and adjust The dimming of other items on the screen. It’s just manually adding it all in not any specific effect. Currently I do not have any videos on Screenflow.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! If you have several clips that you want to use audio ducking on, just go into the dynamics panel and make sure the send button is checked on in each track. Then any track that has the listen button select it will automatically duck under all of the tracks that have the send button on.

    I've not spent much time in Fairlight as yet and all my ducking has been via keyframes. Keyframes have worked well because I ease the volume down before talking starts and back up when it's finished. I'm not sure how the ease-in would work with your method.
    The other thing I'm going to have to look at is how a plethora of small clips are handled by one long music clip. Most of my videos are critiques of other videos, so I'll have a small clip from the video I'm critiquing followed by my critique - which then returns to another clip from the video I'm critiquing. If I can find a way to make that work, it would be a major time saver.
    Just tried it - it works.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thank you for checking out my video! Using audio ducking works exactly how you just said the key frames work. You can ease in and ease out using the attack, hold, and release options in the dynamics window under compressor. In the video I show how the release button eases back into the normal audio volume for the music. You just have to work with those three settings and find out what works best for your style of video. But it saves you a lot of time from manually key framing everything. Best of luck with it!

    • @peterpoop7760
      @peterpoop7760 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JasonYadlovski
      The thing to watch out for is that this method sets the tone for the entire track. All the clips on that track will have the same ducking applied to it. This means that you have to be careful of easing in and out with particular attention to fade transitions and your threshold.
      To demarcate sections of my videos, I often put a 1 second blank between them. I could imagine the ease-out from the first clip bringing the music back up only for the ease-in to the second clip to bring it back down again, causing an unwanted blip. I'm sure I'll find a way around it by judicious juggling of the threshold.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Peter - yea it does apply to the entire track. You can over come the easing by using the hold and release options. Just make it longer (higher number). I've used the this technique on many videos without any problems. You can always have multiple tracks set to send the signal for ducking if that helps. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it! Hopefully you can find a way that it works well for you. 👍
