Since Electric Pentagram was coming out in the winter, Asami wanted a sad winter ballad. Asami knew she wanted to include acoustic guitar on the track. Miyako recorded the acoustic guitar on the album, but live Midori plays it, because Miyako is busy on piano!

Thanks, Eric. It's a pleasure see a music professional just give himself to a performance during a Reaction. No, it's not because they are beautiful Asian woman (although they surely are), it's because they are Insanely Good at what they do. Tightness, groove, riffs, musicality, composition, Technical Prowess!, stage presence, confidence , , , they check every f-ing box. Generational Talent on display here, and I have great relief now that they have found a new '5th Element' in Fami. New Album, Judgment Day 02/22/23, LIve performances Mar 11&12 - surely a DVD shoot, so a Concert Video release sometime next summer. This 🐺is squirming with anticipation.

Asami truly is exceptional. She absolutely nails singing in a foreign language. On the rare occasion she doesn't get the lyric correct, she still doesn't mess up the melody. My favorite Lovebites song is different on any given day, but it's usually between this one, Edge of the World and Epilogue. Edge of the World is an epic experience just like A Frozen Serenade.

Ask the overwhelming majority of Lovebites fans to name the one song that is able to stand above an otherwise impeccable, and impossible to choose best from, catalogue, and they will say “A Frozen Serenade”. I first saw this performance when they aired it free on TH-cam (the whole concert) upon the release of their “Heavy Metal Never Dies” recording, in all formats. I knew the song inside out. I’d been immersed in the band for about 9 months at the time. But I was still not prepared for what can only be described as a production.
Eric, you just gave a summation that was equal in quality to the performance that you were describing. Eloquent, thoughtful, insightful, respectful. Everything “ful’. And it occurred to me perhaps for the first time whilst watching the video, that such a performance is only possible by a female band. A male band would look and sound ridiculous. Not their fault, but it’s a fact. So not only have Lovebites stolen the genre from the male and now own it, they have added a dimension that no male band could hope to emulate.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. They are the *best* band I’ve seen in my 63 years. In time, through greater recognition, they are destined to become the greatest.

What a epic song filled with so much emotion!! What other group that has existed brings out such transitions with an extra attraction of ballet added? The sadness brought by the acoustic guitar /piano interlude keeps the relevance of the lyrics intact which leads to the driving guitar work at the ending. " A TRUE MASTERPIECE"!!!

Eric, you have a lot of great observations.
I agree that Miho's bass line is the glue.
This is a serious song. That is true. It does bring a tear to the eye.
I can see where this is a favorite track of Lovebites. This one may become my favorite. Usually for me it is the last Lovebites song I just heard. That tells me the consistent quality of their music.
    My Notes
Asami and Mao wrote the music. Mao is keyboard player for light Bringer
Lyrics - sound like Joan Baez or Bob Dylan. Very poetic. "Doves and ravens dancing in melancholy." Who writes a lyric like that for a metal song, even a ballad? Asami. That's why I think she is such a great lyricist. Very much get the sense of loss from Asami's point of view as the vocalist. Th subject of the song is in the grieving process
Vocals - Sound of Asami's voice and tone of guitar. The beginning of this song sounded like it could have been a James Bond Theme
The interlude - Snow effect set a visual for the song. Asami showing off her ballet skills. Maybe they should, for fun, do a cover of Clear the Saloon/Ballerina by Styx. Acoustic and piano help show case the skills of Makodori. Miyako plays piano with the guitar on her lap and pregnant? Wow. Haruna does play her most understated drum lines, but she is still doing all those little things to not just to keep the beat. She helps set the emotion of the piece the way she uses he cymbals. She plays them and they give off an icy sound. Just give me chills. Coming out of the interlude into the solo she perfectly bridges into the solo.
The solo - That solo is the most classic rock solo I think they have done. Listen to what Midori does with the pick harmonics over bends.
Vocals - At the end, the lyrics pick up with the music to a more hopeful inspired tone. Inspired to never forget the lost and live to honor their memory.
End solo - Definitely more classic rock shredding full of emotion.
Haruna's drums slow down. This sounds like classic late great John Panozzo of Styx contrasted by the shredding and the keyboards.

Great reaction Eric you are able to express in words what I feel about them, but cannot put into words myself. You were right first time it was Miho who was the bassist here. I am hoping they go from strength to strength with their new bassist Fami. . I have seen a lotmof guys complain they like the music but they can't get into Asami's vocals. I presume because she does not growl and scream, but I think she has a very expressive voice and a great range, and the lyrics (which I think she writes) are often very emotive. And what can you say about M & M. Different styles of guitar but they mesh together so good (plus I have a bit of a soft spot for Miyako).

A Frozen Serenade is the second of the four Asami/Mao collaborations. The first was Epilogue on the Clockwork Immortality album. To be honest, between the two I don't know which one I like the most. The newer two songs - Paranoia and Winds of Transylvania - are very different from Epilogue and A Frozen Serenade. I consider Paranoia to be a very good song and the other three are great. I tend to gravitate more to the Miyako compositions (one of which is Set the World on Fire). Since Lovebites will be officially in the Fami era in a few months, I suggest your next Lovebites experience be the song Break the Wall. It is the only song cowritten by Miho and Miyako. Sadly there will probably never be another. It is easily in my top 10 Lovebites songs and probably top 5. It has already been mentioned in the comments and I have enthusiastically concurred.

LOVEBITES - A Frozen Serenade lyrics:
Crystal tears Falling from the skies
    Veiling fears The emptiness inside
    Time is just passing by
Killing me under the soft twilight
    A frozen melody
Of doves and ravens dancing in melancholy
    A distant memory
If only this snow could erase the pain
I'd wake up in a serenade
    One life ends
    And one life begins
    Evanesce
    To our origins
When I'm lost on my way
Lead my heart and guide me with your grace
    A frozen melody
Of doves and ravens dancing in melancholy
    A distant memory
If only this snow could erase the pain
I'd wake up in a serenade
Just like a dream, just like a bird
    I'll keep on singing out
Even if my voice cannot reach you
Seasons may pass, but its beauty will never fade away
All living things are precious and irreplaceable
Just like a dream, just like a bird
    I'll keep on singing out
Even if my voice cannot reach you
White butterflies are fluttering under the silver sky
If only I could wish to see you once more

Eric, as you said, LOVEBITES is the music I grew up with, but with a modern touch. I have always been a fan of metal/rock but am also a fan of clean vocals and this band checks off both of these boxes. I also tend to lean towards female vocalists (was a big fan of Heart, Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt, etc.). I cannot wait for the new album and hopefully a North American Tour to support it. Last, my personal favorite song is 'Edge of the World' (probably because I am a big Rush fan and this is a fairly prog rock/metal song). Peace.

Although they are beautiful women it has nothing to do with who they are and what they bring, and in the words of Asami "We are not here to be cute but to be heavy" and they bring it and then some. I have heard this song over a thousand times and I still have the hairs on my arm rise every single time. A true masterpiece that will hold the sands of time just like all the classics we have from the past like Zepellin's Stairway to heaven, Judas Priest's Beyond the Realms of Death, Black Sabbath's Lonely is the Word, and so on. To think that back between 2017 -2019 people just couldn't stand Lovebites and it was mostly because they all complained about Asami's voice and all I said oh well it is their loss. Look at them now they just can't stop praising Lovebites and unfortunately, there are still many who complain and prefer some other crappy bands that totally suck. It is what it is and still their loss no there are no other bands of this caliber or level, there is absolutely no sense in comparing them to anyone because there is no comparison. Yeah, they do have their influences just like all the bands out there, the only difference is the skill as musicians and the skill of composing and writing. You have just begun your journey with Lovebites and really don't have clue just how amazing they really are but hopefully, you will soon only if you do more of their songs, so far you have only witnessed one side of their diversified capabilities, they do have so many others and will also blow you away. I beg to differ and say you are so wrong in claiming they are mainstream, if they were mainstream as you say they would be the most sought band in the world, and 70% of the world has not accepted or heard of Lovebites. Please take the mainstream crap out of your vocabulary when speaking about Lovebites

There is an old joke, "what do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?". Answer: "A drummer".
But for Haruna, that joke makes no sense because she plays her drum kit as an instrument. She doesn't just sit there and keep time. She is a very, VERY good drummer, and I'd love to see her talent highlighted more in songs. Drum solo anyone?

very well put, they do bridge generations. I'm an old head and it takes me right back to the day; And at the same time it's brand new. The skill on these ladies astounds me every single time i listen to them. And yeah, those duelling solo's followed often by a harmonizing one gets me every time. this song, that transition, seeing Asami dance to the piano and accoustic guitar... i have no words... So thanks for providing them for me :-) thanks for this video and see you next time!

Hey Eric, just a Heads-Up. On Christmas Eve, Lovebites is releasing a MV for the title track to their new Album, Judgement Day. It will also be the first full appearance of their new bassist, 20 yr old bass phenom Fami. They also have Live performances on Mar 11-12, where they will doubtlessly be recording a new DVD. Happy times for the Wolfpack 🤘🐺🤘

When I first started listening to Lovebites, I wasn't the biggest fan of Asami's vocal style. Now, I've got a very different view - I now love Asami's singing. Sure, her pronunciation and enunciation are imperfect, but that is a feature (not a bug) which adds to the total package of entertainment that is Lovebites.

Thanks Steve, from a newly bitten Alabamian! You really put to words what many of us surely have been thinking about this band. I have not been a fan of metal since my high school days in the early 80's. I am just now working my way through Lovebites' entire catalog, after beginning recently with their new album a chance based on a YT video. I wondered if I could tolerate it. I went from appreciating the talent to getting emotional over their melodies and compositions in short order! Just the other night I played "My Orion" and "Lost in the Garden" on repeat only to have them echo in my head and cause a near sleepless night. Lovebites' image as classy, super-accomplished ladies is most definitely a selling point for me. Injecting a sexualized aspect into this picture would ruin the beauty and appeal. Hopefully we will get our chance to see them in 2024. maybe even in ATL and/or Nashville!

I could comfortably predict the reason behind the smile at the end of the acoustic section. But the the slightly manic laugh at 8:34 is more intriguing. Nearly 15 mins of analysis - wow. - Me? - I just think it looks pretty 😂😂😂🤣. But seriously - A 'king masterpiece.

So worth having the subtitles as I find it very difficult to understand her diction although it's supposed to be in English and otherwise it's a distraction from the excellent music.
