    LOVEBITES - Swan Song lyrics:
If this was the last day you could live on this earth
Would you still go on, accusing someone for today
It’s better to fail than not do anything at all
It is not the length, but depth of life that counts
    Oh brave soldier
    Oh gallant warrior
Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla
    Believe what’s in your soul
For death will come to all
You shall rest peacefully in God’s Heaven
    Floating lotus
    You are so graceful
    Saintly and glorious
    Till the end of time
    Floating lotus
    You are so beautiful
    Sing me your sweet song
    The legend of the swan
If you’ve never hoped, you’ve never been through despair
Ignorance is bliss, it’s easier to never care
You might think it’s meaningless to sacrifice a life
Sometimes the life of one can save so many more
    Oh brave soldier
    Oh gallant warrior
Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla
    Believe what’s in your soul
For death will come to all
You shall rest peacefully in God’s Heaven
    Floating lotus
    You are so graceful
    Saintly and glorious
    Till the end of time
    Floating lotus
    You are so beautiful
    Sing me your sweet song
    The legend of the swan
    SOLO: miyako / both
    Floating lotus
    You are so graceful
    Saintly and glorious
    Till the end of time
    Floating lotus
    You are so beautiful
    Sing me your sweet song
    The legend of the swan

In 60+ years of watching bands and listening to music ( of all genres ) I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen so much talent on stage at one time - and certainly not done in such a seemingly effortless way ( I know it's not ! ) .
Every time I watch Haruna I need a defibrillator and she's killing it while looking relaxed , happy and never even breaking a sweat .
My only slight sadness is that they don't get NEARLY the accolades they deserve worldwide ( although it's slowly coming )

As The Old Metal fan I completely agree. They nail All the Familiar Western Musical Cylinders and then add their own Modern High Energy and Technically proficient Sound and Style. As a Western Fan I not only appreciated them but am truly flattered that they choose Western Style Songs and Western Vocals vs their hometown Japanese style and vocals.

This is when you reassess everything you thought you knew about metal, about music, about talent.... I've never seen another band do anything like this. Whole production studios with access to hundreds of artists and musicians may be able to do it, but just five musicians on a stage with only each other for support? The insane thing is they have a few other performances on record that are at this level.

Great reaction - to one of the most complex (= multi-layered) and most artful Metal songs that I have heard in decades. To me, this song is like a multi-faceted diamond, shining so bright, breath-taking and unique, that you have to look at it many times, to appreciate at least _some_ of its surreal beauty.

Awesome review/analysis as usual and you've absolutely hit every nail on the head ! I'm really glad you did this LIVE version with the Chopin intro. You're spot on with Asami's amazing vocals, and as far as I know, she's the only Japanese lead vocalist/front person who sings all her songs for Lovebites (with the exception of one) FULLY in English. And they currently have a catalogue of about 60 original tracks. Asami's broad and powerful mezzo-soprano range allows her to soar above Lovebite's extremely fast and heavy riffs/licks with ease to provide the unique and melodic contrast. "Swan Song" is a neoclassical metal song inspired by Romantic-era classical composers Chopin (intro., main riff/verse) and Dvořák (Chorus). This track is composed and arranged by lead guitarist/pianist extraordinaire Miyako.

      @boyzyu 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@davidornberg Completely in English ? I'm not talking about singing a few phrases of the chorus in English and the rest of the song in Japanese like Band Maid and Nemophila. If there are metal or rock bands other than Lovebites that sing their songs COMPLETELY in English (ie. no Japanese mixed in), I'm curious to know who they are.

You can find lots of Japanese bands there but for Your Q ( By the way, for me it is not so important if all their catalogue is in English, and more and mora bands switching over to english and I can't guarantee that all this band is in English over the years): SIM, LOUDNESS,is som classic heavy metal bands. I'm 52 and I've been a fan if Prince ever since I saw him in concert when I was 14, and feel he's the must talented musician I've ever been exposed to. His mastery of not just instruments, but MUSIC is second to none imo. I've watched Miyako play everything from drums, piano, slap bass, guitar, and she's about close to Prince when it cones to musicianship than any other person I've heard. That opinion is of course limited to what I personally know, but I say that as a person who grew up with an uncle who was a professor of music and introduced me to all kinds of phenomenal musicians worldwide. I know he would have been very impressed with Miyako if he was still here today. She's a phenomenal talent. And thanks for bringing that up about Asami's vocals. Some people may not realize how difficult it is for a Japanese native speaker to pronounce certain English words because the mouth shape needed to create certain sounds aren't natural, like pronouncing "lah" where you lick the roof of your mouth to pronounce. Then of course there's a difference cadence and sentence structure. Asami has put in a lot of practice and work to perfect her craft. Same with Mayu of Nemophila.

  • @rolandkarlsson7072
    @rolandkarlsson7072 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

The most impressive thing with Lovebites, for me, is the totality. Five persons are making a complex song together in total sync from beginning to end. The segways from one part to another always are very well thought out, and complex and need perfect timing and memory. The next impressive part is that they have so many very good songs, many of them complex. Sometimes they take it more easy, like in "Raise some hell", but even then they add parts that are more impressive then they need to be. I remember someone saying, after a Lovebites reaction, that there were material for five songs in that song an they are "wasting" material, doing things that are not needed for most people. But, for some of us, that listen carefully, that is gold worth!

Lovebites are their own genre!!! I call it "CLASS METAL!" Miyako is a musical 🎼 genius!!! Miyako is the one who composes and arranges the majority of Lovebites music 🎶 🎵!!! A classically trained pianist from the age of 3 and then teaches herself guitar 🎸 at 18 when she went to university. BTW; she can also play bass, drums 🥁, brass and woodwinds! Miyako recently released an album of piano 🎹 covers of different metal bands, including; Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Moore (Miyako's favorite guitarist 🎸), Helloween and Deep Purple, as well as covering her own composition of Lovebites song Addicted! If you haven't already reacted to it, check out her piano cover of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free", which Lovebites also did a full band cover of. Also her cover of Gary Moore's "The Loner" which is absolutely beautiful and brought tears to my eyes!!!! I always enjoy your reactions and the insights you bring!!! Merry Christmas!!!! LOVEBITES 4EVER!!!!!

She made playing Chopin look easy, and I didn't see any sheet music. The piano playing during the middle of the song ,is a track recorded by Miyako.

LOVEBITES have recently released a new live version of this masterpiece, but this version is better in my opinion for two reasons:
1.) It has the Chopin intro.
2.) You can hear the piano at the end of the song, unlike the newer version where it is so far back in the mix it literally cannot be heard until all other instruments stop playing.

In the last section, other instruments sounded distinctly different.
I surmised that due to some accident, they were unable to acquire the line output of the electronic piano and had no choice but to use an air-recorded source, which inevitably reduced the clarity of the instruments.

Brilliant review Eric. I'm so glad you chose the best version out of three versions in live. You talked about the bassist and the drummer. Yes, they are propelling the band, the whole sound. They are tied to each other so tight and keep the music going. They both are actually are the founder of the band as well. You also mentioned Mulmsteen. Miyako has covered his Far Beyond The Sun on PIANO as an etude!! th-cam.com/video/3RzRNijnaKA/w-d-xo.html It is a work of art. There is another insane Far Beyond The Sun cover on violin by Jill of Unlucky Morpheus. th-cam.com/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/w-d-xo.html Yes, the language Japanese and English are so different from each other. Especially, the position of the tongue, the shape of lips and movements of facial muscles. When you pronounce "ni" in Japanese, the position of your tongue touches to your palate flat then sounds more like Spanish "ñi" instead of standard "ni". "si" is the same. Sit is pronounced as shit in Japanese, then "sit down" becomes "shitto down", baby sitter becomes baby shitter. This is just an example.

There is a very strong point you're making about being brought back in time through their music. Probably that is one reason if you watch reactions, most older metal heads tend to go apeshit for Lovebites while the younger ones like it but talk about Dragonforce and try to find comparisons to other bands instead of just enjoying what is on offer. LIke every other band they are influenced by other bands but they are quite unique.

Hi, Eric, your comment and analysis on each Lovebites song is always excellent and deeply reflecting your insight out of your long term observation on music scene and industry. I definitely recommend this channel to my friends! To me Lovebites is not only for the Metal but also for the matter of entire music! And your analysis exactly depicts what they are and why they are so great.

Quick question for all you Lovebites fan's. So did the bassist leave on her own Accord, or was there some tension between her and band or what? Idk if she plays some other band these days but she is so talented that it would be a shame if she just stopped playing all together.
I do not mean to throw shade on the current bassist, what I've seen of her she is a show woman and super talented bassist. Just interested if bassist in this video still plays in some other Japanese or other group? Thank you for the answer on advance.

The official reason given was "personal reasons", but there is probably more to it than that. I suspect the full story will never be known, but I'm fine with that. She chose to leave and now we have Fami, which if anything made the band better. Miho is currently playing with Chaos Control, but I don't know if this is a permanent thing th-cam.com/video/qsyFvrATe48/w-d-xo.html

To the best of my knowledge all Lovebites lyrics are in English. But your point is taken. Just singing in English is difficult enough. If you see some of their newer performances, you'll notice that her enunciation has gotten even better.

The best is, do what i as a german do since over 50 years now, just treat voice as another instrument and the lyrics are only there to carry the voice. I heared that even Jon Anderson from Yes should have said once that he mostly writes the lyrics so that they fit the melody the best and not for the deeper meaning. And i guess even the hardest Yes fans have mostly no clue what the lyrics are about 😄😄

How is it fair to any musician that you got such talent playing Grand piano(And Roland ain't cheap either), then she goes and lays discusting solo's and what not. Also drummer ran like 2 miles on those drums. Love these girls, wouldn't mind being in front row seeing that much leg. 😂🥹🫣

Great reaction, but ASAMI’s vocals are 100% English. They did record one song in Japanese, the original version of BRAVEHEARTED, on THE LOVEBITES EP. I think she sounds much better singing in her native language.

    • @boyzyu
      @boyzyu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Yes she did. The Japanese version of "Bravehearted" is always my fav variant because Asami didn't have the additional focus of having to get her English pronunciation and enunciation right. She sounded "unshackled" in that track and her vocals were really clear and crisp.

  • @beldin2987
    @beldin2987 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Ahh good, even since they release an official one on their own website yesterday, you did the old one, which is really better not just because of the Chopin intro, but also the mix of the new one is way too low on the piano and way to high on the drums, so you don't even hear it at the end, when the band is still playing.
Btw.: Asami always sings in englich, there is no language switching. For that you have to listen for example to this :
Resignation - Lee Young Hyun (MULTI-LANGUAGE 2020 cover) ♡, 𝙼𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚜𝚜𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚎
    th-cam.com/video/ycLc8mLiEkQ/w-d-xo.html
its of course no metal at all, but she is one of the best vocalists of these days for me and has a lot in common with Floor Jansen just how she can make every song her own, her voice control, how empathic she is .. and all that stuff.

I love seeing The Wyldeside drop into my daily LOVEBITES trawl because nobody can analyse, describe and explain LOVEBITES better than you Eric. Not sure if you misspoke rather than misunderstood, but Asami-san only performs LOVEBITES songs live in English. Please pay no attention to the people here telling you that the recent release of this song from the second volume of Knocking at Heaven’s Gate is inferior to this. It’s not, it’s different, and if anyone will understand why I say that it’s you. It’s worth a second reaction because the difference in Asam-san’s vocals is palpable. You’re right, she works incredibly hard to make a language that she can’t even speak fluently sound beautiful. I’m only amazed that you have never heard this modern masterpiece. A month ago Miyako-san gave two piano recitals of both classical and metal adaptations. The evening performance was the one I attended, the matinee performance has a slightly different set list. But there were tears in the audience in some parts of the performance because watching her play (even better than she does here) with no sheet music is something I will treasure. Graceful, elegant, beautiful and passionate. You’re right, it’s not fair, but that’s why this old metalhead thinks LOVEBITES is the BEST (word chosen carefully) band in popular music history.

The first LB video I saw but didn't react to was in her native language. That may be the only one, but that's the first one I heard, which is why I reacted to another track so I could hear her English. I had seen a Wagaki Band video and a Lovebites video in the same sitting, and that was the impetus to dive deeper into both.
      Cheers,
      Eric
