    I also LOVE the fact that you guys went on the ground and found 3 groups that need this money and we are able to donate directly to them. Knowing that this will make a real difference. When you donate to large aid organizations up to 30% or more of your donation goes to administrative costs. This goes directly to those who really are making a difference in the community with no waste. KUDOS!

    I wish I could do more to help. After black mold poisoning in Virginia, I lost everything, including my health. I was forced to leave everything behind and faced homelessness, leading to some truly difficult situations and unhealthy environments. It took two long years to finally secure my own apartment. Even now, I’m still hurting - dealing with sickness, disability, financial hardship, and mostly confined to bed and couch. If I were in your position, I wouldn't return to a home with mold. You might lose some belongings, but preserving your health is far more important than risking illness from black mold.

    It will rebuild. It may take years, but it will happen. I lived through Katrina on the Mississippi gulf coast. For months afterwards, I would look around and think, "How can this place ever be rebuilt to what it used to be?" Well, 19 years later, it is rebuilt, different in many ways, but still rebuilt. It just takes time. A whole lot of time.

    Thank you so very much for this video. It is so wonderful to see how Americans have come to help North Carolina. It was marvelous how the devastated locals helped each other; then outsiders came to help. This is so overwhelming. I’m a retired American in Bolivia. I have nothing, I rent an apartment for $100 a month. But I have personally observed how earthquakes destroyed an entire town in Peru. Yes, water was sent in afterwards, but still the entire destroyed town had to rebuild everything all on their own. It is so heartwarming to see Americans helping Americans. It will take a long time.

    • @IMSiegfried
      @IMSiegfried 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm sorry that you had to experience the earthquake in Peru. Experiencing a natural disaster is traumatizing and like you said, it's overwhelming.
      I can't imagine having to rebuild an entire city, especially wo help.
      I live in Florida and my neighborhood flooded a lot during Helene. I got lucky during Milton but I was very worried before it happened that I wouldn't be ok because I live exactly where Milton went.
      Last night I went to a restaurant for takeout for the first time since both hurricanes and it was a really big deal to do something so "normal".
      I believe that everyone around here has PTSD and it wouldn't surprise me if your city and you also have PTSD.
      Hope that makes sense.
      Cheers to you from the US. :)

I'm in awe at those who have travelled from near and far, have organised materials and skills. Particularly impressive is the company who brought their resources in to reconstruct the road. God bless y'all for helping so many who had (because of the power loss) no warning what was coming hence, (this breaks my old heart) the loss of life if it is truly recorded is going to take Americans breath away I know I was here and saw the BBags. We are a very hearty people and the love of neighbor I have seen is beyond what the media is reporting. I've met people that came from hundreds of miles away just to dig and cut and help truly from the bottom of this old veterans heart I will never be able to say THANK YOU enough. Love from Appalachia strong!!!

    Thank you for getting ahead of yourselves and going to Ashville to do this episode. It's nice to see that everyone banded together and are just taking care of it, and accepting the help being given, and just tearing into the work. I've seen several other interviews and places of operation that just jumped in and took on the responsibility of helping the communities, and they aren't from anywhere around. From disaster relief organizations to Green Berets, and seal teams that have set up air drop areas for relief aid, even after being told by Gov reps not to. Gov needs to remember that they work for us, we direct them, and thank you for your support but we live here and know what's needed now. Glad you did this.

    So much love from people here. It took us several days to be able to get to our community center for supplies. We couldn’t have done it without help. It took weeks for power to be restored in our community. Grocery stores closest to us were closed, and with all of the mudslides, fallen trees, crumbling roads, and power lines on the roads, a 10 minute trip took an hour. Supplies were flown in by helicopters to our community center. All of which were donated. Had it not been for the generosity of others, some of us would have barely survived. Thank you for sharing this video for all the world to see how devastating this storm was.

    I love seeing the people band together to even help the children continue learning through these troubling times while everyone is off in the background coming together to clean up and rebuild.
    I really hope they’re also able to talk to someone as I know the toll this devastation has been on their mental health is astronomical. Heard a story shared from a mother in one video talking about how her child has night terrors of rain and water surrounding his bed and another video speaking of baths and showers scaring them. There’s also a lot of the adults having extreme worry and anxiety over the slightest bit of rain or storms now without realizing it - basically PTSD from what they endured and witnessed. Many just trudging on and trying to get by day by day … burying it down as they don’t have time to even think, but I do hope they take just a moment for themselves. For their sake.
    Thank you for covering their stories and letting the world know that it is far from what the news has shown. There’s so many small towns decimated, way too many people still without a warm place to sleep and many still even missing … it’s awful.
    Also: Megan has such beautiful land with such lovely scenery. You can tell she is very proud of it right along with her animals - I would be, too! She seems like such a kind soul. That’s the kind of person you want in your community, ready to go and lend a hand. I could listen to her tell me stories about anything, she’s so engaging.

    North Carolina is exceedingly beautiful. These videos are stunning and totally wrecked at the same time. The people seem like salt-of-the-earth, the best of humanity. To hear about how temporary roads were shored up by the locals is heartwarming. God bless and help the people who are undergoing homelessness, loss, trauma, etc. Prayers going up for everyone, including Lance, who took the initiative to do something, anything, to help those in need.

    This is the most vivid and comprehensive account of Helene's devastation that I have seen. I've always appreciated your ability to craft a compelling narrative and vivid visual content. And here you have put your skills to such excellent use. I had been wondering how you were affected by Helene since we knew you had been exploring northern Georgia, not so far away. Happy to hear that you came through unscathed and most appreciative of your efforts to get the word out. Thank you!

    Thank you for actually talking about this. I have been so weirded out by all of the sailing channels and other TH-cam channels I watch because they have not mentioned what happened in North Carolina once. It just shows how real you two are.

    • @janemarlow6198
      @janemarlow6198 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      why would a sailing channel mention NC Hurricane Helene when they have nothing to do with it! So you are implying that people in other Sailing You Tube channels are not real? Project Atticus just so happened to be in the area. Do you actually think a sailing channel currently outside the USA would stop what they are doing to report on this, fly to NC and make a video? While devastating, people do have various priorities such as getting their yacht off a reef, which could be equally devastating, and they were focused on their yacht (HOME) not a hurricane on the other side of the planet. And yes the video was well done, and I follow various sailing channels

    Heart warming video. ❤ my daughter and her family live near Asheville. She got moved to a hotel for a week. We are so blessed she didn’t flood. Her home had minimal damage and is only landlocked from good roads. That is why they got them out. Took 3 days of clearing roads to get to her. We couldn’t get in to her and we had to wait for a response to our missing person reports. Gosh that was hard. Thank you for the video.
