Just remember than in the Manga Kite is incredibly more important. He is the first character shown in the series (the title page's right side) and he is the reason Gon decided to become a Hunter. The anime skipped it for God knows what reason, that was the whole point of chapter 1 to show how Gon's decision of leaving and staring his journey came to be.
Yeah the impact of this episode didn't really hit me first time around watched the anime and read the manga later
Kite was a cool character but I didn't see him as important to Gon the anime did him a huge disservice
no hes not you are overblowing it. they hit every major point about why kite is important in the 2011 anime which leaves the beginning paced better. nothing is missing. nothing is lost.

and it fit the character so well, Gon isn't really good to face reality, he live in denial concerning his father too, i mean, he's a good hunter, but a terrible dad.

Btw you can shorten "Neferpitou" with Just "pitou". Oh, and it's a he, many get this wrong but the subs clearly say "he"
Then the sub is wrong. In the manga it's never said what Pitou is, in the japanese guidebooks it clearly says she's female. Fan subs just like to say he because she uses "boku" which is usually masculine. But not always, so that itself doesn't tell us. And the official guidebooks say it's a she. It doesn't matter how many times people keep saying it wrong, she is a she.
It doesn't have a defined gender. The guidebooks aren't written by Togashi, fansubs are, well, fansubs, and the anime chose to give it a clearly female figure, but nothing settles it's gender definitely in the original
The anime portryed her as a she while the manga more like a him.

fights of Nen Users even though they seem long are usually rather fast (just for us "normal people" it shows them at normal speed) which fits nicely into the japanese (or was it chinese?) saying that a fight between 2 masters is over in an instant.

When I remember this episode, I always think, we can have so many dreams, goals and fking things on our minds. But those are not real you have to face the reality of world everyday. This arc is amazing, although I have to admit we have to wait 30 episodes until the peak of it begins.
Pitou has way more strenght and aura than any hunter. Not even Netero could beat him at the moment.
I love this arc but my god it has some low lows coming up soon. Thank god for Gungi.

The biggest complaint of this entire series is that they removed Kite from episode 1. The 1999 version had him in the first episode. This 2011 did not. His death would’ve been more striking if he stayed in our minds this whole time.
In the manga Kite is shown in the first chapter same with the first episode of the original anime series and he was the reason why Gon decided to be a hunter and left Gings hunter license and Gon found it and thats why hes searching for Gin, I still dont know why they didnt put that in the first episode cause it makes more sense for why Gon want to become a Hunter and look for Ging

It's hard to notice, but that pause after Kite summons his ability and gets the number 3, we get a silence moment only with the sound of the rain, to show us he didn't complain about that spin.
the way i understand it, it's because the situation was very serious, crazy slot always give the best spin, but the best spin isn't what he want most of the time, last time the spin forced him to eliminate them all at once while he wanted to test Gon and Kirua in 1 on 1 fight

it's not hard to notice at all
All the times he used his ability (at least here in the anime) he said "bad spin", so I think it was a nice direction touch for him to not say anything when he got the number 3.
And yeah, most of reactors do not say anything about the lack of his complain on this moment. Another detail was Pitou's aura being around Kite's neck on the previous episode as a foreshadowing of his death.

I was absolutely gutted when Kite died because he became my favorite very quickly. The fact that Gon and Killua are the reason he died was also frustrating.

@ishinobi they actually completely changed the manga, the first character we meet in the story is Kite and the first episode is him saving Luffy from the bear, after that he takes on a kind of Shanks role to Luffy and tells him all about his dad and inspires Gon to become a hunter and find his father and develops his dream for him. Since this show is a remake of the original they decided to completely change this for some reason I feel it really takes away from the story and interactions/emotions for the rest of the show
Exactly. There is almost no reason in the anime for Gon to be as emotionally attached to Kite as he is and go as far as he does for him.

So, instead of the anime focusing on a flashback episode where Gon and Kite's relationship is explored and established, like they should have, they screwed it up by focusing on a flashback episode that establishes Kite and Ging's relationship instead. I called it as a mistake when it first aired, and I stand by that opinion now.
