Nothing beats Elton John‘s comment as they left the stage. „You bastard! You stole the show!“. Freddie „ I know, and where did you get that awful hat darling“. lol. Love it

Erol Doko this definitely wasn't his his worst day. It's among his best performances vocally, even though he was sick at the time. He hits notes here that he never does again, ex. the C5's in We Are The Champions when he says "fighting." If you want to hear his worst, look up Bohemian Rhapsody 4/23/79 on TH-cam. It's far worse because of his constant touring at that time.
@@MrSuperMarioKid Well actually queen was after a ''meh'' in the album the works and freddie was not sick also queen was after so much concert so freddie's voice was ready to take one of the best queen concerts
Borja Orive actually Freddie Mercury did have a throat infection and was advised by his doctor not to sing at live aid but he did anyway. Freddie was sick.
I was at this concert. I was 14. This concert was electric. No cell phones no text no Instagram no face book no distractions. Just the music and a point in time I will never forget. Then I saw Queen again A few years later for" it's a magic tour."
It isn't perfect singing, but it is a perfect performance. You only get one shot at it, the whole world is watching, and they rose to the challenge like nobody before or since. They destroyed that stage and gave the greatest live performance of all time.
I agree. He was actually sick at that time, likely due to HIV/AIDS, though he was diagnosed two years later. It’s amazing that he sang so beautifully even though The was sick and it was likely painful for him to do so.
I actually think he was not supposed to sing at Live Aid because of polyps on his larynx or something? So for him to bring this performance out is quite astounding.
To me Queen was my brother's favourite and I didn't care for them until their set. Even I was captivated by this performance. The crowd clapping is just hair raising, goose bump stuff.
I am live sound engineer, and have been for about 30 years. I can tell you much of the imperfections you are hearing are sound related. This show was a festival, with quick set changes between bands. There wasn't much time for fine tuning anything... probably no real sound checks. It's what we sound guys call "throw and go"..... meaning throw all your gear on stage and go for it. Much of what Freddie is compensating for, is probably a less than desirable mix in his stage monitors. Often times if a singer struggles to hear himself over the band, they will do many of the things you are pointing out, just to cut through the mix and hear themselves. They will also cut notes short, and use different techniques for economy's sake. Rock singers are conditioned for the long haul. They have to move a lot and be entertaining, as well as sing. As he had performed hundreds of shows with Queen, he probably had habits that go against good technical singing, for the sake of entertaining and lasting through a full show. I see aging rock drummers adopt an economy to their playing as well. It's all about getting through a full show and be able to do it again tomorrow after you've travelled all night long. If you've seen the Moody blues, live, in the last 30 years... you have seen that they added a second drummer. Graham Edge was very honest and open about his stamina beginning to wain. He saves his energy for the important signature stuff, and lets the other drummer hold down the general time keeping stuff. Performing live, in a sound reinforced environment, trying to compete with other instruments and voices... night after night, can be very draining. I've seen musicians get into fist fights over stage volumes. So in that setting... a singer like Freddy is competing against a few different things, but has his tricks to cut through what he's hearing on stage. In a live concert setting... the stage monitors are mixed individually. Each musician can have what hey want in their monitors. Getting that mix right and balancing it all around the stage is a tough job for the monitor engineer.
He was the best without doubt...you can have the best voice, you could be the best at songwriting, you could have charisma... You could be a great performer...... All are parts..... He had all of those parts...no one else comes close.... Still miss him
The lady is offering a professional insight into this performance, don't understand why people are getting offended. Freddie admitted in several interviews that he didn't sing correctly and was known to lose his voice on numerous occasions due to that fact. This was a very interesting take on an epic performance, thank you for posting!
@Lightbringer I'm glad to see you use your professionalism and decades of experience to declare him the ultimate professional. You should tell this laywoman in the video to hush herself with her utter inexperience, for what could she have to offer in terms of professional insight that you couldn't say better?
@Lightbringer The fact that Freddie Mercury could admit to his limitations is a sign of true professionalism and a sign of humility that made him the great man he was. Any true professional worth their salt should be able to know their limitations.
Marija Šakić Because it is what some people do. If you can understand what is going on behind the music as she clearly does then you have to take note. As someone who used to teach on instrument I understand what makes one musician completely beloved even though he is not the best at what he does and another who is the best technically admired for technique but not beloved in the same way, for my instrument. It doesn't just apply to music. Bobby Fischer is still cited as one of the greatest Chess players even though Chess has moved on technically his style is unsurpassed for many even though not a great human being.
Everyone is right he IS a legend and will be for all of history he is a legendary musical figure and I wish I had the chance to meet him and he is just god I can’t describe how great he is... “heroes always get remembered but you know LEGENDS NEVER DIE” quote from Panic! At The Disco’s Emperors New Clothes anyways he is such a legendary performer and such an eccentric person unique and quite a character though his persona on stage is different from his actual personality of stage... he comes off arrogant on stage but his off stage life was quite private he’s a very private person... as I am told...
The performance at Live Aid, for my generation was one of those "Remember where you were" moments. I was watching Live Aid in my living room with some friends. We were talking a half paying attention to the concert...and then Queen took the stage. I remember all of us suddenly fell silent, our attention turned to the T.V. I turned the volume up and we all just sat there in amazement. From the moment they started to play, Freddie had the entire crowd in his hands. When they kicked into Radio Ga-Ga and the crowd at Wembly all clapped in unison, (us included) that was simply AMAZING! 72,000+ people there and 1.9 million around the world...we all clapped. We watched the entire concert, but by far and away, this was the performance that stole the show! Freddie Mercury was blessed with the voice of God.
i was working in a kitchen ,we got the TV put in ,when Queen came on it was down tools in kitchen and out in the restaurant down forks and knives everyone just watching ,listening and joining in ,amazing day and night ,some great memories :)
Freddy Duhsanga Definitely is one of their best performances. Just because his tone is naturally lower than earlier in his career doesn’t make it any worse. He performs the best live versions of Radio Gaga, Hammer To Fall, and We are the champions. Bohemian Rhapsody is the best medley version and he’s just hitting high notes throughout which mostly only Crazy Tour and early Game Tour shows can beat.
I was a high school student at the time and sat all day watching Live Aid with 4 speakers around me. I was waiting for Phil Collins and had no interest in Queen...until this happened. Even I was blown away by Queen's performance.
Freddie is bigger than every God existing or non existing. Feddie is not only Master, he is the Master of all Masters, bigger and better than nothing ever created by humans or gods. No opera singer can match Freddie's bigger than god voice, all the worlds singers should be ashamed because Freddie is trillion billion zentillion eternal times better than anything living, dead or imagined in the whole universe and beyond.
That little vocal run session with the audience was kind of ingenius if you think about it. He's straining in one song, so in between he disguises a warm up/realignment as crowd interaction before going into the next.
'Ay-Oh' is actually a copyrighted Queen track! But it was probably born out of a desire to get the audience involved in the show (a big thing for Queen) and (by way of a bonus) warm the vocal chords up a bit more too.
He had been doing that in Queen shows for a decade. It was as much of the show as a Brian May guitar solo. However, he certainly used it to help his voice.
I saw Queen live on their last tour in 86, then I attended the Freddie tribute concert in Wembley in 1992. The saddest/most amazing thing in the tribute concert was that they played video of Freddie’s vocal runs in between each act... and the crowd response was just unbelievable. I’ll never forget it.
You must remember that Freddie Mercury had a throat infection only days before this performance. He was told by a medical Doctor that he shouldn't do it, but Freddie being Freddie, he said...f...k it...and did it anyway. This was addressed in the movie too. So....when you know this, it shows you how well he did in this performance. You should check out other Queen live performances...they were well known for their live shows.
Will do. Yes I could see he was not in best of shapes. Good to know the background. But I'm happy I listened to the technique without knowing that first
Really liked your take on this performance, your breakdown of his voice was really good, when you realize that he had a throat infection it confirms what you heard, he was not singing at the top of his game, that said he did extremely well considering. I have subbed and look forward to more of your videos.
@@linororen There is also a video that describes how Freddie used his voice, also had Monserrat Caballe talking about what it was like singing with him
As a musician and Freddie´s biggest fan, I feel very empathic with all your comments. I think that yours It's really a very loving view -to hear to someone objectively, can be a way of true love... -. I thank you again, hope you don´t get too discouraged with the negative reactions over here, and continue with this lovely insights... I'm learning here! :)
People with negative comments to the reactions are just butt hurt and have no idea what kind of training and experience professional vocalists and singers go through.
No I wouldn't. Then again I can't really complain about the results Freddie delivers...as said, even not at his best he gives a fantastic show. And he didn't need be sing opera..
@@linororen He was sick on this day, also, he was dead 4.5 yrs later. I wonder if AIDS affected him at this point. It doesn't seem to, but he went downhill fast, not long after this. Could he have been an opera singer with the proper training?
@@ukiluser He was supposed to be ill that day. Might have been just a cold. HIV/AIDS causes you to get sick much easier that an HIV free person. So I wonder is he knew he was sick before he was diagnosed. Also, it took a while for the test to be developed for HIV/AIDS, so he have had the virus, and it wasn't detectable. He looked awful a year later, that's when the rumors started, and it wasn't confirmed to the day before he died. They also hadn't played a concert for a long time together, and only had a short time to rehearse, so he/they might have been a little off, but you could not tell me that. It was an awesome performance.
Its pure conjecture, but, often among the first symptoms, was/is candida infection of the throat/mouth and chest infections. Many people with HIV had/have opportunistic infections repeatedly before even thinking about getting tested. Back then, it could take time before a GP would realise the sequence of symptoms and advise testing. He was obviously struggling for breath on this occasion and I suspect he had a chest infection as well. I was nursing people with HIV in the late 80s & onwards but this is still conjecture. Although, re: his diagnostic 'date', it would have been highly unusual to be diagnosed early in those days; often years of declining health preceeded diagnosis. God bless him.
Honestly this is a great reaction, everyone always reacts at the crowd side but you reacted as a singer knowing the techniques and before I watched that live aid concert I didn't know he was sick either but I could also tell he wasn't as his best that day, yet he gave a great performance I hope you can react to more live videos because I love when people appreciate Freddie's voice and his techniques. I don't know what's wrong with the people being rude lol your reaction was great.!
Thanks so much, it means a lot. It's ok that people comment they way they do, for better or worse. I understand that if one is a great fan it could be upsetting to hear criticism
The movie timing of HIV/AIDS was incorrect (on purpose for the movie storyline). He would not be diagnosed until April 1987, 2 years after this concert.
@@linororen Freddie knew he didn't use proper technique. I actually saw an interview where he mentioned that people had told him things he should do but he liked how he sang and didn't want to change it.
Thank you for your honest analysis. I've watched this so many times and as someone who voice trained for many years, I noticed some of the very same things. I don't fault him for it. Rock is gritty, imperfect, less technical and more free-form. The confidence in his delivery completely sells it and it will always be one of my favorite live performances.
I love her honest opinions .throughout she constantly gives him amazing props . She points out all the technical reasons he is not singing like a classically trained opera singer , then goes on to correctly say “ It doesn’t matter because he has such great charisma and is such a great showman . I think Freddie would enjoy this review . He admired opera and opera singers and it is obvious that She feels the same about him
Well said. He wasn't a great singer because he had a pristine voice. He was a great singer because he used the voice he had to pour out the song with electricity and authenticity. There's nothing technical about that or about the way most great rock or pop singers sing. Elvis, Roy Orbison, Don Henley, Chris Cornell and not that many others really have/had beautiful male voices. There are way more great singers who DON'T have voices that are technically "good" but know how how to sing (any of the Beatles, Mick Jagger, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley and on and on and on). I'm dating myself with these references, but so be it.
I’m no vocalist but I am a musician and I can say this is a great analysis. Though there’s a lot of positivity in some of these comments when scrolling down there’s sadly a lot of people complaining about this woman saying she doesn’t have room to critique cause she isn’t some big musician. Freddie is one of my favorite musicians ever but everyone makes mistakes, including him. I just hope some of you people screeching in the comments could realize this. Anyway, great analysis!
Just like in my previous comment, become a rock legend then you talk about Freddy this guy might be good at what she does, but she's no rockstar like Freddy
Come on he had a throat infection and may be early problems with hiv all I Can if thats not perfect it's still millions of times better than a lot of Singers these days Plus I have seen many of these reactions to queen's live aid performance But why is the sound quality on this reaction sound so bad
Are you for real? He was this great with an infection? Just raises his stature that much higher. Such a tragedy that he was taken so soon. And I tend to agree with Sidewinders. Freddie Rules!
You can see that he was struggling when you compare it to this performance which was analysed by the same opera singer. No infection and also better equipment ... all the fans there were also Queen fans not like Live Aid where he had to carry them along with him - which he did like nobody else ever could. Was lucky to be there . By the way the sound equipment was **** and got worse as the day went on - ruining some performances all together . Compare and contrast with this Queen performance which she analysed th-cam.com/video/9pTyOgwpqt8/w-d-xo.html
@J. Francisco Arroba Thank you for saying that... I felt like she was kinda picking on him. Everything from his voice, to his jawline, shoulder, posture... I know Freddie liked Opera but Queen is Rock & Roll... I couldn't even finish watching her reaction .
So much more respect hearing about just how much he's visibly struggling to a trained eye. I'm assuming you didn't know about the polyps ahead of the show but he's definitely struggling, yet puts on what's argued to be the greatest rock performance of all time.
Freddie has a beautiful voice that we all cherish! We feel it in our heart's to alway's defend him, which is only natural when you appreciate everything Freddie Mercury gave us as a whole! As fan's, we should love Freddie also through his sick time's! This happen's to be a time he was i'll and advised not to sing. But he chose to because he didnt want to let his band down, or his fan's. This woman, opened my eye's to thing's in his performance that I wouldn't have ever noticed. So instead of coming to Freddie's defense and telling this woman off, I want to thank her! Thank you for showing me a vulerable side of Freddie and allowing me to appreciate freddie through good time's and in bad! He was suffering but still gave us his all! Thank you Freddie & Thank you Ms. Opera singer😘
saw the movie recently and have binging on Queen. got here and do wonder about her reaction to Barcelona. Queen and Freddie Mercury such a rare jewel to music. probably influenced all of the good music in the last 40 years.
As a classically trained musician, I think it’s so hard for us to take a step back, and just enjoy a performance. We’re full of “could’ve, should’ve, would’ve,” and I actually think it really hurts our mentality, and ultimately, our performance. Sometimes, the best thing to do is just sit back and enjoy the show, regardless of the genre. He had this audience practically eating out of his hand, despite he was fighting off a throat infection. The performance rush with that set had to be unbelievable.
Please note that I’m not meaning this criticism. A lot of this come from my personal experience. If I try to think about every little thing, I lose the feeling of the enjoyment of performing (the whole being perfect thing). We don’t know what he was thinking on stage, at the time, although he looked like he was having the time of his life.
You boys really should watch David Dramain. Disturbed lead singer. His cover of Simon and Garfunkel, Sounds of Silence. Freddy was good. But David even live is Unbelievable
It was lovely hearing input from an opera singer! I'm glad you finally saw this performance. It is really crazy how Freddie is what holds everything together, such an amazing showman. His sound is really unique too, I don't think I've heard even one person that can recreate it in its entirety - especially that "distortion", is that what you call it? - it's extraordinary. Can't agree with you more on that last bit. I was only about 11 months old when Freddie died and watching old Queen concerts of him sometimes makes me cry. I just feel like he should know how much I love his voice! Like, I really want him to know how much I love it while I'm listening. Haha, silly but true. Thank you so much for sharing!
So sorry for the defensive comments criticizing your analysis. What you said made me appreciate Freddie’s performance even more. He was a force that would not be denied and that more than anything was what made him a legend. I wish I had been able to see him perform live.
Linor Oren, i love you! i have been a queen nut since 1 was 10. im 52 now. i don't read or write music but have played the guitar and sang for 35 years. you have just expressed in words some of the feelings i've had for Farookh's vocal abilities and some of his live performances. i'm not a musical genius but the emotional reaction when you listen occurs without question. you expressed that. you broke it down, and i found your reaction quite informative. cheers from canada!
You're right Jeff. I was sold the first time I listened to a Queen album (A Night at the Opera, 9 or 10 years of age), and blown away when I saw them live (Leiden, NL 1984 - 15 years of age).
I love your reviews. I was stationed in Europe when I was in the Army when this took place. I saw this live aid. The sound was completely nuts, like all festivals, the sound engineers did a throw & go and were struggling to push the PA to be heard over the crowd when Queen took the stage and began their performance. They were using wedge monitors, no in ear monitors. Imagine trying to play and sing in that roar!
As a self-taught musician for 10 years who then went into formal music training in college I can tell anyone who hasn't experienced both worlds that this video is fantastic as an analysis of natural, self-taught technique from the standpoint of classical, orthodox music theory and vocal coaching. There is absolutely NO reason to criticize her, because she is NOT "criticizing" your Hero. She is "critiquing" his vocal technique in this ONE performance. The lady offered several disclaimers and qualifiers in an attempt to put her comments into context, but some people are simply too shallow to get it. To these nit-wits, only the most shallow, superficial interpretations are possible. good/bad, pretty/ugly, big/little, right/wrong. Do yourself a favor and consider the possibility that life is more nuanced and intricate than that. This intelligent, elegant lady simply is critiquing Freddie's performance from the perspective of a classically trained vocalist. And I think she does a fantastic job.
Hold right there dude. Just because she's an opera singer doesn't mean she's an expert in rock music. Totally different techniques. Not a good vocal performance? Is she freaking kidding me? I absolutely take offense!!!!
@@Artisian12656 Freddie had a throat infection at the time and was advised NOT to perform at all. He himself has said that this performance wasn't his best. That said even with a bad throat he's better than many but he said it himself that he is much better than this single performance and if you don't agree with the vocal catch then agree with the man himself. I'm pretty sure Freddie knew himself and his talents better than you.
Agreed. She literally stated she needed to close her eyes because this is a perfect performance, and that was tricking her into thinking of the vocals as perfect. This was a live rock performance. Freddie Mercury was more than a singer, he was a performer that could have thousands eating out of his hand. She even says she feels silly criticizing Freddie Mercury because of his talent. Vocally, this was not his best performance and he still rocked the stadium. His bad day is still pretty damn good.
Love this analysis! I'm sure Freddie himself would be the first to tell you it wasn't his finest vocal performance on a technical level, so of course (as you note) he went for power and charisma, keeping the energy up. At this point, though the band had a week to rehearse for Live Aid, Freddie hadn't been on stage in seven months and hadn't warmed up his voice as he normally would have for a proper live tour. Queen joining the line-up for Live Aid was a late addition and they scrambled to get ready, relying a lot on their experience playing huge South American soccer stadiums. In short, they played to their strengths as best they could. Great video! Thank you :-)
"Sound quality is not the best" definitely should be a criticism on the recording equipment in 1985, and TH-cam. I can say with certainty that it sounded different if you were inside Wembley that day.
The vocals aren’t perfect and BR isn’t a perfect film by a long way, but when. I went to see it, the cinema audience didn’t want to leave at the end. Not one person left before the end of the credits. That’s unheard of. The critics reviews gave 60%, audience reviews were 90%. That’s a measure of the man and his charisma.
I was one of those ppl who waited for credits to end! I grew up with Queen in the 70s & 80s and liked them but was not a die-hard fan. The movie made me fall in love with them, especially Freddie. Malik's performance was off the charts. I would bet that he channeled Freddie because he embodied him throughout the movie. I couldn't get enough of watching Freddie's performances and life story on YT after that.
Dazedand Confused I noticed the same excact. Everybody stayed in their seats, and only when the screen went Black, they stood up and NOT exactly left, but started takling to eachother about it. :)
We all agree, that Freddie Mercury is a legend. She's NOT criticizing, but analyzing. The techniques, the vocal range, the performance. Her comfort zone is a much more different genre. Let's appriciate the efforts she put's into this. Thank you Linor, well done.
This the first time i have seen a vocalist review another vocalist. It was fascinating. Thank you so much. Even more since it was crossing genres from opera to rock..
Interesting analysis. A couple of points: 1. Freddie suffered from vocal nodules he developed early in his career from singing with a rock band. They could flare up from time to time. Sadly, rock singers from the 60s and 70s often suffered from nodules due to bad rehearsal spaces and the feeling you needed to sing over the drums and the amplified guitar. As he stated in a later interview, this is why he never wanted to sing in musical shows (on Broadway or the West End, for example) due to the nature of having to do a show every night. He admitted it would tax his voice due to the nodules, and in Queen he tended to drop notes or let Roger Taylor, the drummer, handle the higher notes live so he wouldn't burn out. 2. Early in Queen's career, Freddie was often criticized by the press for having too high/smooth of a voice. I do believe he worked to develop that raspy edge to high part of his chest voice to suit the rock sound. It also came naturally due to the vocal nodules, and I think at least in part he smoked to try and encourage that sound in his voice. In the studio, he was certainly a magician with the voice.
Freddie Mercury was absolutely in his element when out there performing live on stage. He really loved the interaction with his public and his fans. And nobody does it better than him.
I'm a bit confused as to the negative comments and the attack of the person reviewing this video. First of all, this review is being made by an opera singer. Freddie was not an opera singer. He was a rock singer who happened to have an operatic quality to his voice. But he was not a classically-trained vocalist. Rock and Opera are two very different styles which utilize different parts of the vocal cords. So as far as "incorrectness", the reviewer is speaking from the standpoint of a classically trained opera singer. She isn't saying that his performance was incorrect. But no, Freddie did not utilize what would be considered proper vocal technique from a classical standpoint. Because he was a rock singer. For example, he had polyps on his vocal cords. This was because he tended to sing from the throat as opposed to singing from the diaphragm. This in itself would be considered an improper singing technique. Rock singing in itself would be considered improper because it basically forces the voice to do what it is not actually designed to do. But again... This is because Freddie Mercury was not an opera singer! He was a rock singer, and the best in history. So try not to get offended when he is reviewed or criticized by an opera singer with years of training in classical voice. By the way, I was classically trained in voice for 17 years. But now I am an alternative rock singer with an operatic quality.
Dont be confused , its a pointless, patronising stupid review of the vocal quality of a legend who's running about on the biggest stage ever live in front of half the world, get an opera singer to do the same or anyone for that matter the results will be even less perfect than freddie, perfection is impossible and measuring it is pointless , who's the benchmark what she comparing it to , does she even get the concept of live rock performance
@@thomas-fq1wi As a life time fan of Freddy and opera singer, I am not sure you realize the nerve and skill you need to sing difficult arias without amplification over an orchestra with the extra difficulty of having almost no margin to cover up a bad night or bad technique by transposing notes, cutting them short or leaving them out. I am sure however Freddy would understand, because he was an accomplished musician, pop singer and performer so he knows what it takes also in other disciplines. Her reviews is fine and it's actually refreshing to hear some actual criticism of stars from a vocal coach on her instead of blind adulation. It doesn't surprise me it comes from an opera singer because again, you cannot really hide a lack of technique in opera.
@@susandrakenviller3683 who care's you dont understand what my point is , whats she comparing it to , is she comparing to another live set NO so therefore its a comparison against perfection lol she picked a live set and is analysing note perfection , fucking pointless Compare freddie singing the part in barcelona he wrote for monserrat caballe then she can sing it herself and compare the two , maybe that will put a bit of perspective on it for her, she annoys the fuck out of me with this self absorbed video not to mention patronising as fuck
@@mahadevmurmu8489 yes he was an amazing performer with an excellent voice and very charismatic. But you are missing the point. It seems like people are under the impression that this woman is criticizing his vocal skills. She isn't. She is looking at things from the technical perspective of a classically trained vocalist. Which Freddie was not. Nor did he ever claim to be. And your comment about him being able to dominate any classical voice doesn't make any sense. Nor do I think he would agree with that. He could certainly dominate any classical voice when it comes to rock and roll, yes. But can you imagine an opera singer trying to sing this style of music that Freddie did? It wouldn't sound right. Just like if you were to put Freddy in an opera, it would be very easy to recognize that he was not an opera singer. Like I said, they are two completely different styles. In my opinion, as much as I really like the reviewer, someone like Freddie Mercury needs to be critiqued by another rock singer, not an opera singer. Because they know the vocal techniques of rock and roll. Just like I seriously doubt Freddie Mercury would have any desire to try to critique an opera singer when he himself was not one.
How impressed and in love she looks at Freddie. I still am today. I was very lucky to have seen Queen live four times back then. Nobody can take that from me :-) Greetings from Germany. You are doing very well!
Half of the comments informing her a million times about Freddie's throat condition (once is more than enough, people). Some comments telling her how to do her job........... No surprises there, sadly. Loved this reaction, madam! Waiting for the 2nd part and subscribing! Oh, and I'd also love to see your reaction to "Barcelona" :D
Hey thanks! Don't worry about it, dear. People comment their opinions that's fine! And repetition isn't bad. For instance you just reinforced the demand for Barcelona. Several have asked for it. Now the chances I'll do it are way higher!
I’ve watched dozens of reaction videos to Queen and I’m fairly certain these are bots. There are various comments across multiple videos that all seem to come from similar accounts (full name, no profile picture, no content) with a similar writing style. Why this is I have absolutely no idea, but it would certainly be strange if they were all coincidental.
Thank you, Linor! Like you, I too saw the movie first and then later went back to watch this incredible performance. I have to admit, I was completely captivated by it. Although I sang and played guitar in bands throughout the 1980's and 90's (and sometimes still do today!), for some reason I never got into Queen until the movie came out. I now have a great appreciation and admiration of Freddie Mercury and his wonderful talent. What a great song writer he was as well! Anyway, I just wanted to say that I also appreciate your comments and want to say I respect you and think you are beautiful! Great job summarizing his performance here. I agree with all you had to say here. Thank you!
Love your insights! It brings a tear when Freddie stands in the speaker well, pausing before he sings "of the world". He's gasping for air, but finishes it. It wasn't Freddie's greatest performance, but it was his most courageous. He left it all on the stage, legend that he is
Freddie in his bad day, using that time elementary vocal systems still sounds way way better than today's singers with current high tech vocal systems. Freddie =Father of Rock
I love Freddie's voice but you're correct he doesn't give his best vocal performance but you didn't care because it touched your heart. That's what music must always be about. He had so much charisma on stage he could sing less than he was capable of and it just didn't matter. He touched the heart. He had power here, no doubt, but he avoided the damaging higher notes due to the illness mentioned by others previously. Drummer Roger Taylor is also a great singer for Queen. Brian May, the guitarist, has a surprisingly great singing voice as well. Brian sang a great cover of the Rainbow hit (by Russ Ballard) Since You Been Gone that's pretty stellar. Saw it here on TH-cam. Worth looking up and maybe reviewing. Cool to discover Freddie and Roger were not the only great lead singers in Queen. I think in an interview Brian said every member of Queen sang lead vocals on at least one track on each of Queen's albums. (Roger Taylor's biggest hit that he sang with Queen was "I'm in Love With My Car." Check that out and see what you think. Neither Roger nor Brian are as operatic as Freddie, but great voices, both of them.)
He owned that stage...and had a voice from Heaven..Even a bad day didn't take away from his awesomeness..He wasn't just a singer..He was poetry in motion....A true performer in every sense of the word....Mr. Fahrenheit😘
He had a throat infection during the concert and then...the diagnosis that came later still chokes up everyone. Through all that time he compensated and was arguably the best to ever grace the stage.
It’s a shame to see such narrow minded and negative comments. I suppose some people only see and hear what they want to. There is a fundamental difference between the reaction of a professional voice coach/singer such as this and a someone trashing a singer. She gave a fair assessment of the performance and gave him credit - openly stating that voice isn’t everything and frequently stating that the technical imperfections were irrelevant as the performance connected where it mattered. Freddie didn’t make excuses, he acknowledged this performance. Why would he want others to make excuses? He wouldn’t.
It's a forensic analysis. Freddie's doctor recommended that he not perform because something was wrong his throat. She's not saying he was bad but that he is so good, that even when his voice isn't his best, he's still incredible. We don't like to hear negative things about our heroes. His voice was effected by his throat issue but it was still brilliant. It wasn't his best performance vocally but it was a spectacular performance. On of the all time best rock performances, ever. . It was a forensic take. Don't take it to heart.
I don't think it was narrow minded. I think she is looking at it from a trained singer point of view. I don't know if that is fair, as some one and maybe more than one person said singing rock is way different from singing opera. I don't think Rock singers thinks as much about phrasing and things that a singer such as Sinatra, or Tony Bennett or Barbara Streisand.
Excellent reaction and review! I did the same thing, I watched the movie then watched the live performance. The more I'm learning about Queen the more my heart loves Freddie and their music. I wish I had appreciated it more when I was a young girl, but I did turn up the volume everytime they came on the radio!😊👍💯💥
I re-watched this video, and only watched her, watching Freddie. Her adrenaline starts to circulate pretty heavy about 6 minutes in. Her breathing gets heavier. Over 30 years later, Freddie Mercury captivated a trained opera singer from a TH-cam video.
SmithCommaBenjamin she is a fucking loser trying to get views... a fucking nobody trying to act like she is an authority... it’s like a fucking 3rd grader criticizing Albert Einstein!! She is a fucking moron
Still get a little choked up when I see this particular performance. Was not ever a huge Queen fan, but how can I feel anything other than admiration and respect for Mr. Mercury, as well as Brian May and the others, who had gone quite a long time without playing together... LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE. R.I.P. Freddie
He was having problems with his throat nodules, performed against doctors advice dancing around moving around I would have been out of breath in the first song he is absolutely amazing‼️ he is the best still to this day‼️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was introduced by a friend back in college (about 6 or 7 years ago) to Led Zeppelin and Queen and was (and still is) blown by their music. I've been on a Queen again playlist since the movie came out.
I’m very confused by the comment section. It’s titled opera singer’s take on freddie mercury. It does NOT say “watch a video of me not criticizing Freddie” or “watch a video of the BEST OPERA SINGER IN THE WORLD GIVING THE ONLY LEGITIMATE ADVICE AND THOUGHTS.” She’s very upfront about what it is! A trained opera singer giving HER technical perspective on his singing in THIS PARTICULAR song. I found the behind the curtain glimpse super interesting!! and she’s clearly a big fan. P.s I agree this is the performance of a life time, probably his best and most influential performance, but I ALSO agree that this is not his best vocal performance. The two do NOT NEED TO BE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE
Hello.. Just thought I might add a little more information that you might not have known.. Not only was he told not to perform by his doctor, but they had to rush through the performance because of time constraints. This was a live show broadcast all over the world and most of the bigger acts were only given 18 minutes to perform.
Edward - what is total nonsense: that he had a throat infection? That it was a live show broadcast internationally? That there were time constraints on the artists? That there were multiple acts involved in the concert?
Check out singwell.eu for voice tips, stories and methods to become a better singer. I have an opera background, but teach all styles

Enough said...Period...GOAT
Erol Doko this definitely wasn't his his worst day. It's among his best performances vocally, even though he was sick at the time. He hits notes here that he never does again, ex. the C5's in We Are The Champions when he says "fighting." If you want to hear his worst, look up Bohemian Rhapsody 4/23/79 on TH-cam. It's far worse because of his constant touring at that time.

It isn't perfect singing, but it is a perfect performance. You only get one shot at it, the whole world is watching, and they rose to the challenge like nobody before or since. They destroyed that stage and gave the greatest live performance of all time.
I don't think I will ever see a performer own an audience like he did on that day at that moment.
@@barrylird he missed the antivirals that would have saved his life by a mere matter of months.

The lady is offering a professional insight into this performance, don't understand why people are getting offended. Freddie admitted in several interviews that he didn't sing correctly and was known to lose his voice on numerous occasions due to that fact. This was a very interesting take on an epic performance, thank you for posting!
agree, its good to see people not just fawning over him and giving a professional view.
Just an analysis
Funny how everyone, Linor included, talks about how great Freddie IS instead of WAS. That means a lot.
Everyone is right he IS a legend and will be for all of history he is a legendary musical figure and I wish I had the chance to meet him and he is just god I can’t describe how great he is... “heroes always get remembered but you know LEGENDS NEVER DIE” quote from Panic! That little vocal run session with the audience was kind of ingenius if you think about it. He's straining in one song, so in between he disguises a warm up/realignment as crowd interaction before going into the next.
Jaer Nihiltheus lmao he did it a lot actually
Jaer Nihiltheus it was scripted as a part of the performance lmfao
@@andrewsweet5186 he wasn't diagnosed until 1987

Linor have you heard him sing Barcelona with the opera singer Montserrat Caballe? Its a pretty powerful performance.
I just saw your post after I posted mine. I'd be very interested in hearing what she thinks!
saw the movie recently and have binging on Queen. got here and do wonder about her reaction to Barcelona. Queen and Freddie Mercury such a rare jewel to music. probably influenced all of the good music in the last 40 years.
A concert is not a live rendition of our album. It's a theatrical event
Best front man ever

Ill take Freddy at 70% over anyone today....
I'll take Freddie at his 0.1% over anyone Today.

Well said!
Sorry you missed that honor, he was amazing live. I saw Queen and Elton John in concert the same year 1976. It was a fantastic year. Sigh.
@@SuperDrLisa i saw queen when I was 14, and it is to this day, the greatest musical memory ever!! I imagine queen with ej was amazing too
I saw them in Marbella on August 5, 1986. It was the penultimate concert for Queen.

Farookh :)
I love it
I love your reviews.
Too much logic, Jake.
Opera singing is not the definitive form.Anything but.
She not using headphones/earphones also
There’s nothing better than a live rock concert, except Queen live!❤
Cigarettes. I wonder how even more powerful Freddie's voice and breath control would've been had he NOT smoked cigarettes.
Not to mention all the drugs.
He lived hard.
Who cares... I cannot immagine a different Freddie...
He was also sick with a throat infection during this
Way better Im sure. Smoking . Kills everything. I couldn't play drums if i smoked.
Same thing happened in my theater! No one left till the screen went black

Not only in England did this happen but also in Sweden, watched the movie at the cinema 3 times and it happened everytime
A couple of points:
@@susandrakenviller3683 who care's you dont understand what my point is , whats she comparing it to , is she comparing to another live set NO so therefore its a comparison against perfection lol she picked a live set and is analysing note perfection , fucking pointless
Compare freddie singing the part in barcelona he wrote for monserrat caballe then she can sing it herself and compare the two , maybe that will put a bit of perspective on it for her, she annoys the fuck out of me with this self absorbed video not to mention patronising as fuck
Take ur opera music in ur ass brother.. Freddie can dominate any classical voice.. He is such an amazing with a charismatic voice..
Hearing his voice always elicits emotions from me.... I tear up whenever I hear "Who wants to Live Forever"
I'm seeing a lot of comments complaining about hate but not all that much hate 🤔🤔
Thank you!

100% correct! He had so many perfect voices, just unique.

Love your insights! It brings a tear when Freddie stands in the speaker well, pausing before he sings "of the world". He's gasping for air, but finishes it. It wasn't Freddie's greatest performance, but it was his most courageous. He left it all on the stage, legend that he is
I love that moment too
well, to be completely honest, even on his worst day, Freddie is still better singer than anyone else.
Freddie in his bad day, using that time elementary vocal systems still sounds way way better than today's singers with current high tech vocal systems. Freddie =Father of Rock
You really really need to analyze the last songs on Live Aid please!!! Btw Freddie had a throat infection and was told NOT to perform but he did.
(Roger Taylor's biggest hit that he sang with Queen was "I'm in Love With My Car."
Check that out and see what you think.
Neither Roger nor Brian are as operatic as Freddie, but great voices, both of them.)
toddvandell85 John Deacon never sang lead. Only background

Freddie was a performer with one of the best natural voices of all times.
I love your attitude, to imperfections 'it does not matter'. So fresh these days, it was the performance that matters. Thank you :)
Christopher Grundy “professional”
@The Internet Killed Music
Christopher G Why are so many fans offended by her assessment? Linor was positive, for the large majority of her critique.
You need to review "Save Me" from Montreal '81 to get a good idea of Freddie's abilities as a live rock singer.
Don’t be embarrassed. I’m 40 years old and I saw the movie first too. I just think it’s wonderful that new generations are falling in love with Queen.
ACertainJustice you my friend are too logical for the emotional idiots of today.
Hello.. Just thought I might add a little more information that you might not have known.. Not only was he told not to perform by his doctor, but they had to rush through the performance because of time constraints. This was a live show broadcast all over the world and most of the bigger acts were only given 18 minutes to perform.
i think they performed a little over 20 minutes
cathy.............that is total nonsence
Edward - what is total nonsense: that he had a throat infection? That it was a live show broadcast internationally? That there were time constraints on the artists? That there were multiple acts involved in the concert?
