Another idea for the imperfect yarn is to crochet 3ft X 5ft blankets for a local veterinarian office. They use them for pets after surgery. Some of mine are still being used nearly 15 years already!!
You didn't fail, that is an unbelievable deal and I'm so happy that you're going to be able to use some of it! You're a planned pooling genius and I'm so glad I found your channel. I've seen some tutorials where it didn't even turn out that great and they are explaining lol you're so smart and the way you explain it is so helpful. I look forward to seeing more of your videos, I really enjoy your personality and find myself laughing at times and I appreciate you already 😊
Great haul, I'm in LOVE with the apricot morning! I feel like it's so "on-trend". I noticed the sticker on it was from Ben Franklin. That was a popular department store in the early 80's. I loved going there lol. There are only a few left and they do have a website. Most of the yarn is either RHSS or peaches and cream. ALSO........ I used to BEG my dad to take me into the Woolworths. Ours had a diner! We would get ice cream. That was also the early 80's.
Wow! So cool! I couldn’t find any info on when the yarns were made so your life experience has helped me put a date to this yarn. I was born in ‘84 so some of this yarn may be older than I am. 😳💜
Whooohooo!! I love love love vintage yarns! When someone asks me if I want some yarn my head always says yes! What a great haul. Don't throw anything away. I agree with other people, crochet mini blankets, wash them and donate to animals in need. Animals don't care about perfection.
This is my first experience with vintage yarn. I am a history lover so this is so cool to me. I’m definitely going to keep it and do my best to clean it all. Thanks for watching. I’m glad you’re here! 😁💜
With it being acrylic yarn, you'll be able to use whatever detergent on it you want ☺️ also winding it into hanks will make it easier to wash ☺️ oh & for the white you could also use a little bit of bleach ☺️
Good idea with the bleach. I didn’t even think about that. Acrylic is very sturdy so I think you’re right about basically doing whatever I want. Lol. I can’t use it right now anyway so I guess I have nothing to lose really. 😁💜
How fun!!! I love a good yarn haul and vintage yarns are always so charming, especially when you look into the patterns that were being suggested for these yarns in the yesteryears. I’m a new subbie, so happy I found you 😇❤️
Wow - what a great buy! Our goals need to be flexible, otherwise we can miss out on lovely opportunities like this one. I would try washing the complete balls, pop then into a laundry bag and then leave the for a while to dry. I used a mild eucalyptus wool wash when I washed mine. I did this with some donated wool I was given, and all the wool survived! Good luck, have great fun with these beauties!
Thank you! I love yarn and crocheting but I want to have a HEALTHY relationship with my craft and be responsible with the resources that I’ve been given. 😁💜
Use it in a scrap blanket. If that's not your style gift to someone who does scrap blankets. I love the color pooling. That is going to be awesome. I can't wait.
Knee high works so well keeps skeins intact and Dawn does work but make sure that it is clear not blue or yellow some times the colored dawn can leave colored residue clear works.
That dull grey color and the blues could be used for amigurumi! I think you mentioned wanting to try an elephant? Whales cometo mind as possibilities too - and a really easy one at that!
It’s almost like you received a gift. The peach Radiance yarn is beautiful! I bought a box of vintage yarn and use it mostly for amigirumi. Fun vlog! Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It certainly was a gift. The morning apricot color is my favorite. It color pools beautifully and I just love the colors. 😁💜
Last time I went yarn shopping I spent 100 dollars as I seriously overestimated how much I would need… then yesterday I found your videos about color pooling and need to try it! First time I’m glad my local arts store closed because now I would have to go out of my way to buy yarn
Fantasic yarn haul, 🥰. Have you tried color pooling with that ocean abyss by big twist yet? I failed miserably with mine. Most times i got only one st out of a color n two rows to somewhat work. But it was all over the place for me as a whole. 😑 i gave up for now. Currently working on neon stripes by redheart for color pooling. And for the first time ever i had a skien lose its dye way into the skien. Really messed me up but hubby git me back on track. He is so wonderfull with pattern/colors n not afraid to lend a hand/opinion too. Im terrible at picking color schemes, lol. I can only go simple schemes but he can go intricate. 🥰
I tried it a few times and have put it in time out no think the halo on it muddies the pattern and makes it hard to see. Neon stripes makes a BEAUTIFUL pattern. Keep it up. You’re doing great! 😁💜
Hi Erica, great find with that box of yarn. I don't think it's a fail at all. If you had not gotten it you wouldn't have found that beautiful pooling yarn & all of that yarn could have ended up thrown out by someone that doesn't appreciate the yarn like you do. If some of the yarn ends up being discolored still after washing you can always use that yarn to make cat & dog size blankets for local no kill shelters/adoption places & they usually love getting them. My daughter gives veterinary care to a cat sanctuary/ adoption place so I mostly make cat size blankets, roughly 2'X 2' & they are so appreciative for them. They lay them around for the cats to lay on & they are great when coming out of & recovering from surgery. Sometimes they will send the blankets I make with the cats to a foster home so the cats have something snuggly. Anyway, just a thought if some of the yarn is still discolored after washing. The cats don't care. 😉💜🐈⬛
I LOVE that idea. I’ve been wondering if they take crocheted items. I didn’t know if maybe the animals would eat the blankets and then get into trouble with the yarn. I’ll make some calls and see if I have some places around me that will take crochet blanket. Thank you! And your Wright about the yarn. It would have ended up in the trash and not appreciated. 😁💜
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing 😊 I’m a new subscriber and a new crocheter😊 I’m so glad I’ve found your channel…maybe one day soon I’ll post a video of myself crocheting too!😊

@@ItsTimeforYarn Thank you so much!! At the moment I’m enjoying making blankets and wash cloths because I only know how to do the three basic stitches. I’d like to venture out a little bit more but I’m so nervous 😄 One day I’d like to learn how to make a granny square lol 😆

There is a great crochet channel called Hooked by Robin. She has a pattern for a gingham blanket that would be gorgeous with the blues and white you got ❤ Her tutorials are very clear and fun!
I would love to see if you try to wash the yarn that has some discoloration. Because it doesn't look like it is bleached from light it looks like it is dirty for some reason and if you can figure out how to wash it without it coming apart, I think it would be amazing to see the results.
I have not tried it yet but it is on my list. I haven’t studied the yarn yet so I’m not sure if it is possible. Stay tuned for future videos discussing specific yarns that will color pool. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you’re here! 😁💜
What stitch is the best blanket stitch that is not a yarn eater. Let's say for red heart super saver yarn 5oz/142g 236 yards, medium 4 weight worsted with a 5mm hook. Thank you
I really enjoy the moss stitch (sometimes called the linen stitch). It has a nice drape, doesn’t have holes, and I feel like moves along at a good pace. 😁💜

What you can do with the yarn that is “dirty “ use the center pull until you get to the part that is dirty.
You can also redye it. With the stained white tea dye it. Or make some pet blankets.

Try to salvage the yarns by washing them using washing bag or kneehigh stockings

Get a knee hi stocking put the yarn in and wash with clear dish detergent. Let dry.
Thank you! I’ll pick some up and give it a try. 😁💜
I just found ome 1950's 2oz sock yarn at the thrift store.. I failed the low buy month already but dang I couldnt let them be.

Yes! I love her tutorials. I’ll have to check out that gingham blanket. Thank you! 😁💜
You might work up a swatch using the outside and then try and hand wash it to see if that dusty residue will wash out.
