Great interview with Cameron and Craig! I’m a Regen owner and own 2 original systems too. 3200 tower and Sync II.

May I ask how does Regen compare to the Sync II sonically in your opinion?

Thank you for mentioning me (your friend in Texas) being affiliated with Synclavier3, Cameron. Now, get back to your Awesome Bleeping!

As an Australian, they were the BASTARD competition to the local Fairlight. That said they were FUCKING BOGGLING.

I had heard of the Synclavier, but had no idea it was this crazy and elaborate and ahead of its time. And darn good lookin’, too. Thanks for the podcast ❤

As a former Sync user, I find it funny that:
    (1) the resynthesis module, which was the stop-gap to get polyphonic samples BEFORE PSMT happened, isn't mentioned _AT ALL_. It was extremely powerful.
    (2) While even Cameron mentions that they did indeed license the FM patent from Yamaha, I have to point out that operationally the way that FM was implemented and used compared to the DX1/5/7/9/11/27/100/... was COMPLETELY different. There were no algorithm stacks, and on the sync FM was a function of the timbre frames, and you had to rely on partials along with tons of timbre frames. This was ironically, what made the resynthesis features possible.

I'm developping agreat relationship with regen, not the kind of thing the larger public will go for because it's not instant gratification. This thing can go from cold robotic to wet organic, and there is this very present in your face texture to it that is so unique. I use a kb controler and my good old mpc 2500 to sequence it, the couple 2k5/regen is just perfect for a hardware freak like me. i use a polyend seq for step sequencing for drum aswell. You can do all of the synthesis methodes you can think of if you get the "logic" or workflow or philosophy of how you use it, and i feel i only scratched the surface... I agree with the outro text, this is tthe way i see my tools, it's not about piling up but getting in depth (and i went from diy to designing/building units for a living so...). great interview here. I really need to send em a letter with thoughts and suggestions, an external kb with faders and extra switches would be great in a 500 euros price range, and an extra multitrack sequencer (seqs are afordable in nowadays i'm always about having one attached tyo each generator) would be great too, maybe make an outboard controler tha61 works a bit like the arturia keystep pro, oh and guess what; synclvier and arturia are pals... just thinking out loud huh; for now i use a keylab essential 6 as copntroler for regen (i have better kb's on other synths, and tbh io'm not thast good of a keyboardist, but in contrary to the c15, regen is a perfect tool for producers rather than musicians -imo), but later ide love to get either a big keylab 88 or maybe the studiologic witch is fatars brand, and the joystick with the synclavier could be nice, but who knows, maybe we'll get an outboard controler from syclavier...

I'd love them to make a Synclavier with the classic form factor, modernised & all in the keyboard with all the upgrades they've done to the old machines. I like they've done the Regen, but that'd be amazing.

Sounds like you might be better off having an original?

Me too. I love the Synclavier sound but i'm not a fan of the Regen design.

@@UseYourBrain930 as a user, the design id perfect, add you sequencer and kb controler, then you'r great, it can be mounted on a vesa stand witch makes it being placed in fornt of you floating in then air placed wherever you want. the ui is great and the workflow is so nice you forgewt about it when you get used to it. the swiper is nice and will last forever as it's optical not mechanical.

*Emulator an 8-bit sampler that used "companding" ADC / DAC that expanded the dynamic range, equivalent to 12-bit, but with 8-bit resolution.

I'm trying to find info about Arturia's Synclavier V, and technology is modeled from the original Synclavier II. Does it model the variable frequency DACs and time-domain dithering from the original that was mentioned in this video? What over-sampling should I set in the VST to be closest to the original?
