I will say this about classic Hollywood: They had to figure out how to make actors say bad words without actually saying them. The insults were much more imaginative as a result.

Agree. I think this may actually be her best performance. She's obviously good in Mildred Pierce, but she doesn't suit the role as perfectly as she does this one. Her line delivery is smart and cutting, and the way she flips back and forth between speaking on the phone to her suitors with a low, velvety seductive voice and sniping at other women in the room with her shows she really integrated the lines and performs them as second nature. That doesn't come through in roles in which she plays a more fragile person, such as Mildred and Baby Jane.

Women loved masculinity in men and were happy being feminine. The suffragettes were mostly happily married heterosexual women who loved their hardworking husbands and just wanted to vote and have equal legal rights. Sadly butch, man hating feminists highjacked the movement, and now modern day women call selling booty pics for $5 on onlyfans “empowering” while screaming they don’t need a man, while MEN pay their bills! Not much has changed. It does beg the question, if a man is going to pay your bills, isn’t it better to be loved by him rather then just sell your body for nothing online? And if you view men of this time period in the same anti male modern way we all like to view women, you could even say “these poor oppressed men, forced to work long grueling hours for a woman at home and forced by women to be traditionally masculine work horses and risk their lives for others ” 😂 Funny how it’s NEVER ever sold to us that way.

You only think its outdated.
Outdated? "T'was ever thus, my friend."
LOVE this movie!❤️
