The server and the client calculate the velocity of the player independently. The position of the player usually gets determined by the clientside velocity. The serverside veloctiy usually gets ignored, and it is also sometimes quite desynchronized. However whenever the player takes damage the serverside motion overrides the clientside motion. Now the particular jumping technique you are using is for some reason creating a lot of downwards serverside motion. I think the server is thinking that you are just falling straight down during the preparation jump. You can make that motion visible if you take damage at some point during the jump. So for example you could add a fire block somewhere in the middle of the jump and see whether touching the fire mid-air immediately gives you a high downwards velocity. Also you can probably make the whole glitch much more reliable by adding a fireblock directly above the slimeblock. Then getting the extra momentum should work even if you land on the middle of the slimeblock.
Woah, is that _the_ Myren Eario?! I'm actually a huge fan of yours, (believe it or not ;^)) That explanation is very similar to what I heard from Cynimal about it. The desyncing from jumping off the edge combined with some kind of damage makes the bounce happen quite consistently. I went and tried it using fire and it seemed to work very similarly indeed. Putting the fire on the slime directly makes it act just like fall damage, but placing higher up gave a slightly smaller bounce, which I thought was interesting. I wonder if Minecraft uses a kind of coyote time in the client that might be missing in the server or something. It's quite unintuitive that jumping at the very end of a block would back things behave so differently. I saw on the mcpk wiki they listed a couple actions that could cause a desync, but they didn't elaborate much on that. Finding new ways to desync things enough for this glitch to work would be so cool. The _most_ mysterious thing still seems to remain though, why are the bounces sometimes much larger? When I was testing with fire I got a bounce at least 2 blocks higher than the normal size. I'd think that it would just be slight variance in the amount of lag at the time, but the bounce is very consistent 99% of the time. Finding a way to get that extra few blocks of height would _really_ open the floodgates for speedrunners. I suppose a bigger bounce must mean there was a bigger downward force, but where it could be coming from I'm not sure. If the server thought you were falling for longer than you actually were, maybe that could cause it? I wasn't able to replicate it just by lagging the server though, so who knows. I'm still kind of in shock that you saw my video. Glad you came by and could help explain things! :D
@@Legitimoose "I'd think that it would just be slight variance in the amount of lag at the time" I think that too. "I suppose a bigger bounce must mean there was a bigger downward force" Yes. "If the server thought you were falling for longer than you actually were, maybe that could cause it?" Yes. "I wasn't able to replicate it just by lagging the server though, so who knows." If anything, lagging the server reduces the bounce height. To increase the bounce height you need to lag the client, so that the server has more time to add downwards velocity to the player. If you use carpet mod then you can increase the jump height by increasing the tick speed. At tick speed 40 you get higher damage boosts than at tick speed 20 because the server has more time to create velocity.
Well actually there is an other way to do the glitch. It's quite harder than the normal way, but to put it simple, even if you jump in the center of the slime, as long as you very quickly shift just before hitting the slime, you still bounce highier, I don't actually know why. The minecraft parkour maps speedrun community loves it.
Interesting video, but also: highly entertaining. Loved it! Thanks for the help, I'm about to go break my ankles and jump real high now! Maybe... sometimes... with a sizeable sprinkle of luck.
On Timolia in Jump World, before the maps reset, there used to be a map that uses fire jump boosting and damage jump boosting. When you get hit by fire while you're at your highest point of the jump, you immediately fall at terminal velocity, making a slime jump of 5 blocks height end at 7 blocks. There were also other damage boosting jumps that require you to be 'on fire' for the last jump, making you need to get every jump to there perfect, or you have to start over from checkpoint. I copied it onto my map and used poison instead of fire, to make failing a jump burn harder on your patience.
Thanks! I don't know many people who like the _whole_ game as much as I do lol. Minecraft pvp is kind of insane, but the weirdness is also what makes it fun. If you couldn't tell from this video, I'm partial to weird tech ;^)
One thing it could be is that it checks whether or not you should take damage slightly after your velocity changes on the slime block, so you are timing it so you are on the slime block when it checks if you should bounce, but not when it checks if you should take damage. That means that theoretically you can do it if you crouch in-between those checks too.
Great explanation! This is also the first I have seen of slime glitches outside of Hielke's community... with consistent setups you can pretty much get slime glitches every time (standing on a specific part of the block, looking at a consistent place every time, and using the same momentum every time, depending on the situation). But yes, the different heights is kinda unpredictable though
Thank you! Yeah, while I was recording I got pretty good at doing the trick, but no matter what I tweaked about the conditions I just couldn't get the extra height to happen consistently. At least there's still more mystery to solve ;^)
:O Thanks so much! I watched a bunch of your vids while I was researching (and """researching""") for this video! I was _so_ impressed by your triple slime glitch that I decided I had to try it myself. I wouldn't have even thought it was possible if not for you! I'm actually _so_ happy you liked it :DD

This is a thing within PvP faction communities, used to use it to setup walls that only we could pass easily because we knew what was going on. Can use it to jump 2 blocks high w/ no slime block too.
In fact, there is another situation, that is, slime has the ability to bounce, and you are also injured, but the height of the jump is the same as that of the normal slime, just like the fire injury jump does not follow the rhythm. Have you ever encountered this situation?
Indeed! That's probably because of what happens at 6:14 . If you don't jump off at the right time it won't boost you even with the fall damage for some reason.
@@LegitimooseIn fact, this is not a bug. The damage jump of slime takes advantage of the features that the edge of slime will have landing damage and slight bounce when it is injured. I don't think this is a bug. In addition, I suggest you consult Astralio or Bullen13. They have such a high success rate in completing the slime injury jump that they can use it many times in speedrun. It's impossible to have a 100% success rate.
