    Hi, Simon my thoughts are: the vehicle definitely needs to be put in a dry place, then the driver's seat should be removed. It's not a big job. . Then remove the carpet completely. Also the you can cut. You can glue it back in later. That's no problem. Dry everything out completely. Place paper towel between the door and then pour water over the entire door. Then you can see where the water comes in. Good luck. Greetings Udo

      Hi Udo, good to hear from you again buddy. I did push it under cover of the barns yesterday, so it will keep it dry until I can fit it in the barn properly.
      I will be taking all the seats out to clean them all up anyway, so I may as well get all the carpet out too, especially as i shall be welding in the floor pan too 👍

    There are some silica gel packs you can buy from hardware shops such as B&Q . Once you have sucked out the bulk of the moisture you can put a few of those "Moisture absorber" inside the car and put it under a roof or a car cover over and let the gel absorb what moisture is left. If you leave the car wet inside it will rot out the floors, but I think that is obvious ? The door seals can split in various places and can be carefully super glued or silicone sealed (when they are dry).

      Hi buddy, thanks for your input. I have now put it under shelter until I can get it into my barn. Those gel packs sound like a good idea, I use something similar in my motorhome 👍

    It might be worth your while to confirm if any water is not maybe collecting inside the offside A pillar? Good luck!

      Hi Jean, thanks for getting in touch. That's good idea, as I will be removing the A pillar trims when I do the headliner anyway, so I can check it out then 👍

    Hi Simon. Can I suggest that rent, borrow or steal à dehumidifier rather than use à heater to dry out the inside. If you use à heater you risk encouraging corrosion in yr electrical problems down the line.
    Good luck from France ! Q

      Bonjour quintin, I appreciate the tip, I do have one I can borrow so I will look to do that as you suggest 😉

    no way. I had exactly this issue when on holiday in North Wales. Woke up in the morning came out of our Airbnb only to find a pool of water in the passenger seat of my beautiful Jaguar XKR convertible. never really understood why. Ended up selling the car a few months later. Just made sure I never drove it in the rain between then and selling it.!!

      Hi Henry, good to hear from you, buddy. It would appear that it is quite a common fault with these cars. Let's hope the new owner at least got to the bottom of the issue 👍

    Seal the gutter trim as you said you've done on your XK8, I'm pretty sure that'll sort your problem out. Thanks for not sealing up that drain hole, I was having palpitations here 😂

      Hi Robert, I genuinely never knew it had a drain hole there, good job I checked the other door 😃

    Old news papers will suck all the moisture form the carpets while you find the problem

      Hi Paul. That's a great tip, so thanks for that. I have now pushed it under cover, so hopefully, it will not now get any worse at least 😬

    My xk8 had similar problem and water has got inside offside pillar and rotted the botom out where it goes behind the wing. Welding job for spring/summer.

      Hi Phil, good to hear from you buddy. I remember when I had a similar problem with my last XK8, the amount of people who got in touch to say their XK8 was leaking too, it must be a very common fault.
      Hope you manage to get it fixed without too much trouble 👍

    as you have had the battery off a lot of times . there could have been water getting in from the windows that have not having been reset ,

    • @projectsinthebarn
      @projectsinthebarn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Derek, thanks for your comment buddy. That is a good thought, but i did have the windows all the way back up and reset when I done anything with the battery. A very good shout though buddy 👌

    Hiya mate, did you ever get to the bottom of why the seal was leaking mate? if so what was it. I too am having the exact same issue with my xk8.

    • @projectsinthebarn
      @projectsinthebarn  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi buddy, I have had it on a couple of my XK8 's now. I would suggest the most likely cause is the rubber seal where it attaches to the 'gutter rail' trim at the top of the door frame. Under the metal trim that the door rubber fixes to is a foam seal. These break down over time and let the water seep past them.
      If you carefully lower the rubber door seal away from the metal trim at the top of the frame, you will expose some fixings that hold it into place. These can easily be undone to remove the metal trim to check and / or replace the foam seal.
      If you look in my blue XK8 playlist, you will see a video showing you how to do it and the issue mine was causing.
      I hope this helps buddy, please let me know how you get on 👍
