I really disliked the fact that 4 and 5 never did anything with Calypso. In the third movie they explain that Calypso was put in a human body in order to tame the seas so that Pirates could rule them. But in that movie they set her free, so the sea should be almost impossible to cross now, but they just ignore this, and that sucks, this could have been a very interesting conflict.

*NGL, if they were to keep the franchise going* I’d rather see them continue the idea set in “Dead Man’s Chest” of the pirates realising “Our time is coming to an end” and slowly each film - we see the crew get smaller, the magic elements slowly disappear, elements of the modern world start appearing and we see Jack go from this legendary pirate to an outlaw without a crew.. I’d prefer that than the idea of just green lighting sequels where Jack has another adventure.

The absence of Gore Verbinski in the director’s chair is very noticeable post At words end. I don’t think people give him enough credit to how important he was to the identity and quality of the series.

    • @KabbalahSherry
      @KabbalahSherry 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

FACTS! 🫤💯 Nobody ever mentions this... but it was a HUGE part of why the latter movies just did not work. The director is incredibly important! It can't just be anybody, ffs.

    • @aspiringjoker2883
      @aspiringjoker2883 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

@KabbalahSherry especially when you consider the fact that the director of Tell No Tales didn't allow Johnny Depp to improvise while playing Jack. That was what made the character an icon. Johnny's creativity. Instead, we got this poorly written, razzy nominated caricature of Jack that lacked the understanding of what made him special. A great director is like a painter working with an inkblot, ya know? They can find the shape and make something great within it, but they can also see what it wants to be and help it grow organically into what it was meant to be. Todd Phillips knew how to let Joaquin Phoenix improvise, Verbinski knew when to give Johnnybthe reigns, and the results speak for themselves. You can be a great architect, but you need to let the artisan you've hired work if you want your creative vision to be all it can be.

My problem with 4th and 5th, is the lack of world building.
The reason why 2nd and 3rd are memorable (positively and negatively), is because of the world building.
Thinking outside of the 1st movie, why did the trilogy always feel big? Because the story was always progressing to new horizons, creating lores and more interesting decisions regarding how the characters worked their goals in that world.
Davy Jones, the Kraken, Calypso, the East India Trading Company, the Pirate Lords. Every single movie added more lore, culture and locations. That's why the trilogy always feels fresh, big and new in every single new film.
    4th and 5th, don't have that.
The Blackbeard story was a good idea, but such a bad execution. Was lackluster in how they bring the most notorious Pirate of real life.
5th was a rehearsal of everything we've seen already. Dead pirates back to life, the compass is again a story point, Jack again is free, the black pearl again, Barbossa dead again, magic, fantasy. We already seen that.
If they had kept 4th and 5th more grounded, apply to the nature of how the Pirates world is actually ending, that would've been so much interesting.
Maybe a civil war between the Pirates lords, some want to be out of that life, some still wanna be pirates. The Spanish, the British and the Portuguese wants to end Piracy once and for all.
Of course the 3rd film was already the breaking point of the Armada ending Piracy, but again, was just the British.
4th movie was cleaver enough to bring the Spanish to the picture, but didn't fully embraced the idea.
Maybe even also the Americans were down to end Piracy.
So you have Americans, British, Spanish and Portuguese joining in their last attend to end Piracy. What are the Pirate Lords gonna do?
That's far better than the fantasy things they put out on 4th and 5th.

I could imagine a version of Salazar who is not cursed and just hates pirates with a passion and shows no mercy at all. Add the actually incredible cool design of his ship (pre curse) with the literal guntowers and you wouldve had yourself quite an amazing pirate hunting villain without all the poorly built in supernatural stuff.
(In my opinion poseidons Trident was a terrible and very poorly thought out idea. It creates so many unresolved questions and plotholes around the functioning of curses and espacially Wills. Like did his heart grow back now...? Where do the dead go now that he doesnt have to do it anymore... and so on)

I had Covid and spent my quarantine watching the pirates movie. By the time I got to the 5th movie I had been stuck inside by myself for days and I felt terrible. When I finished the movie I called my dad and cried about how bad it was.
Just one problem I had was how much retconning they did. Like making Will turn into a weird sea creature like Davy Jones. The only reason Jones ended up like that was because he stopped caring souls to the locker. You are telling me honorable Will Turner for no reason just stopped ferrying the souls to the locker? NO I refuse to accept it.

Also it was a genius move to kill the Kraken like they did.
It was a great indicator of the tonal shift and about shit getting real in the third movie. The Kraken dying is symbolic of the death of the fantastical pirate world at the hands of capitalism.
It's basically what Jack tells Barbosa in that one scene shown to us directly "the world isn't smaller mate. There's just less in it"

    • @rudrodeepchatterjee
      @rudrodeepchatterjee ปีที่แล้ว +19

It showed us just how serious the situation was just because Jones' heart was with Beckett. It gave him so much control over Jones that even Jones was forced to eliminate his biggest Trap Card, the Kraken, which he could deploy to finish off anything overseas, if he couldn't take care of it himself. It told us "now that we have shifted from the Afterlife-ish setting of the story so far, get real; there's a far more grave danger ahead".

    • @anonymouseovermouse1960
      @anonymouseovermouse1960 ปีที่แล้ว

"At the hands of capitalism"? What?
Damn, we got ourselves a true philosopher here, everything you don't like is capitalism, amirite? Just invoke the classic symbolism of peter pan, replace "adulthood" with "capitalism", and pretend to have made such a deep statement on our *society*.
Nevermind that capitalism wasn't really a thing during the time of the pirates, and certainly not in the british-occupied colonies of the americas.
It's definetly not like half of the people who want to kill our heroes of this "fantastical pirate world" in the franchise are either monarchists, with the other half being either pirates (ironically, the one group of people in the movies who fit the definition of capitalism, at least as strawmanned by Karl Marx himself, that being, "as much money as possible"-ism), or fantastical and/or magical beings themselves.
Yours truly is one of the comments of all time. Great job.

Salazar wasn’t released because somebody else used the compass. He was released because Jack pawned/sold the compass for some run, AKA betraying it. Every other time somebody used the compass, Jack had the intention of getting it back, but this time he just got rid of it, didn’t care if he’d get it back or not. That is what caused Salazar to be released, not just simply letting somebody use it. It makes perfect sense.

My ranking of the movies worst to best (in my opinion)
*5. Dead Men Tell No Tales* - easily the weakest one, the thing I hate about it the most which you didn't really mention are the plotholes it creates. But, there are some parts I enjoy. *4/10*
*4. On Stranger Tides* - people say it sucks, but I still really like this one. Jack is still a good character, and I think Barbossa was really good in this movie. The story is ok and I really enjoy it. *7/10*
*3. The Curse of the Black Pearl* - this might be controversial but I have this here. I understand why people think this is the best one and I love it, but I personally just love the 2nd and 3rd ones more. *8/10*
*2. Dead Man's Chest* - this used to be my number one, and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time. The plot and characters are great, the GGI is amazing, and the whole thing is very well thought out. I'd argue the side plot with the trading ship is even better thought out than the main plot of the 5th movie. *10/10*
*1. At World's End* - take everything good I said about Dead Man's Chest and magnify it by 10. I just love everything about this movie so much. One part that I think gets overlooked a lot about this movie is the music (my personal favorite soundtrack of any movie ever). Sure, there may be flaws, but I love this movie too much to be deterred by them. *10/10*

The biggest crime of DMTNT was that Barbossa didn’t use Black Beard’s magical sword, like, at all.
AST, as bad as it was, established that Black Beard’s power came from his sword. It’s what made him a threat. And now that Barbossa has it, he does just about nothing with it.

Regarding calypso’s lackluster impact to the final fight in the third movie. I’ve always believed that she is the only reason it was a 1v1. Both sides throughout the movie convinced her that the other side was at fault, the pirates for imprisoning her and Davy Jones for showing them how. Because of that she didn’t want to help 1 side win so she created a storm, a storm that only those 2 groups would dare enter forcing a 1v1 instead of the one sided slaughter that would have happened with all those navy ships. At least that’s how I’ve always seen it

I rewatched At World's End yesterday evening and I have to say I completely agree with you! I think it is made clear by the dialogue in the prison with Davy Jones when she confesses to him that she still loves him and wants to destroy the Brethren Court. But when she is set free Will's revelation that Davy Jones is at the origin of her imprisonment hurts her so that she decides to help them both/destroy them both. Cool confirmation of this theory: the dialogue right before the battle where both Gibbs and Mercer (Beckett's hunchman that gets strangled by Jones) say that they have the wind in their favours.... but they are facing each other so it is not possible!
Also cool detail I picked on my rewatch : Tia Dalma and Jack had a love affair prior to the film, which means he quite literally had a relationship with the sea and that is pretty in character for Jack.

9:51 I rewatch dead man’s chest the most out of the Triology!
The camera work and how this movie looks it’s just breathtaking.
Both Elizabeth and will have so much more to work with as characters compared to the first movie.
William meeting his father and challenging Davy Jones to liars dance, was so amazing! And the dialogue in this movie is just great!!
Will, talks about he wants the key, Davy Jones then says how do you know about it? Will replies and says that’s not part of the game is it? You can still walk away! 😈 Davy Jones then looks at him like you MF! 🫠
Elizabeth is such a better character in the second movie. She knows how to fight, she pulled a gun to Beckette’s head. She went on her own journey without anyone by her side. She’s definitely better than being the damsel in stress for me.
Jack sparrow taking advantage of Elizabeth’s feelings was mind blowing. They left on good terms in the first movie so she had every good reason to trust Jack! Jack didn’t know what he wanted between the second movie. So the compass could not help them out. So Jack took advantage of Elizabeth wanting to find Will, Jack told her if you want to find Will, you must want to desire to find the chest Of Davy Jones!! Jack is using her feelings for his advantage to find the chest in order to stab Davy Jones.
The original plan was Jack sacrificing Will to Davy Jones as a hostage… After Jack found the chest of Davy Jones he would return back to him to threaten him in order to save Will later on into the movie. At the same time to save himself from the fate of Davy Jones.
But Jack was not expecting to see Will at the end of the movie on the same island. Now he has nothing to work with, will now wants to stab the heart himself in order to save his father. But Jack Sparrow whipped out his sword to tell him, just because we kill Davy Jones now what’s going to stop the kraken on hunting us?
Jack knew he couldn’t just get rid of Davy Jones immediately without dealing with the Cracken first.

There’s also a point to be made for non English speaking audiences, to be specific: the German audience was really let down after the third movie when Disney and the german voice actor for johnny depp couldn’t settle financial disputes (waging). Disney went on and hired a new voice actor, which now after many years sounds familiar again, but back in the days (for the first three movies) we, the German audience, got introduced to jack sparrow and his foolishness with the OG voice actor, so after they changed him it was a really big change for the franchise back in the day, and I bet that also got disney a major set back in terms of the likeability of the franchise, at least for the german speaking community.

But yea I miss the old things variety not all super heroes all trying to do something good etc.

Otherwise I really enjoy it, Jack and Barbossa escaping the Spanish camp is so much fun and the addition of a little flamenco flair to the main musical theme? Perfect

Dead Men Tell No Tales also made NO sense by bringing back Will as ‘cursed’! Davy Jones became cursed because he didn’t fulfil his obligations to ferry the dead, turning instead to piracy. In the epilogue to AWE, it is clearly shown that Will is NOT cursed because he is fulfilling those obligations. There’s no indication that he was going to stop fulfilling those obligations any time soon because he was a good man. So they completely broke their own continuity with the fifth film.

If I had to explain the roles of the films I’d explain it as:
COTBP: An amazing watch and fun stand-alone film.
DMC: A good story with a lack of action for the majority of the film (although this is due to DMC being more of a setup for the next film).
AWE: a really good end to the trilogy, amazing action scenes, and although understanding the story requires you to watch DMC, odds are you would’ve done that already, as who watches the sequel before the film to which it continues the story of.
OST: A decent film, arguably not the best, but it has charm, since it is not connected to the others, it feels as if it could’ve been slotted anywhere in the story, if it weren’t for some conditions in the film (such as Barbossa being a privateer).
SR (DMTNT): Probably the worst, it’s not terrible but, it is a major drop in quality. I can see why some enjoy it, but it wasn’t really needed. The story of Will and Elizabeth ended in AWE, and Jack and Hectors more or less ended in OST, and not to forget Salazar although entertaining, isn’t as good as, Hector Barbossa, James Norrington, Davy Jones, Cutler Becket, or Blackbeard. He isn’t terrible, it’s more of the fact that, Jack and Hector, fall into the position of mentors to the new characters introduced in this film. Nothing wrong with the idea of a previous protagonist becoming the mentor of the new one, I just hoped Disney would’ve learned from Star Wars and avoided that.
Overall, the franchise is good. Some films could be taken out, or even just slotted into different points in the story, if certain elements were changed. But overall I’m glad Disney decided not to continue this franchise. Don’t fix what’s not broken.

Me forever defending gore verbinski’s amazing trilogy! 🎥 ☠️☠️☠️
(Part 1) For anybody who is always praising the first movie to be the best. I have been studying 1-3 and I constantly re-watch them. Pirates of the Caribbean does not go downhill in writing after the first movie. That is your business to believe that opinion everyone else goes with.
Dead man’s chest gave the characters more depth! Elizabeth and William barely have anything to work with in the first movie. William’s relationship with his father that was hinted in the first movie of his father‘s existence. Paid off wonderfully. William’s character had way more in depth now and you have something to truly care about him for. You get both perspectives when you understand their Reunion! Bootstrap didn’t want Will to become a pirate like him, he wanted him to have a free life from the pirate life. William had a hard time accepting he was half Pirate but when he accepted his life and his father… He has a new journey to stab the heart of Davy Jones to set his father free.
And you’re implying William is better in the first movie just because he wanted to save the girl he loved? William in the second movie now has Elizabeth as a lover. And now a new journey to rescue his father someone else he cares about. And this became a difficult situation when bootstrap told Elizabeth at world‘s end. William has to make a decision. Either don’t kill Davy Jones so he can be with you. Or he does kill Davy Jones and set me free, but he won’t be able to be on land for 10 years. If I were him I wouldn’t pick me! 😕 The emotional weight on William’s character gets better and better.
Elizabeth in the first movie was just a damsel in distress girl. She wasn’t useless in the first movie but you get the point. In the second movie, Elizabeth learned to wield a sword and she used it in the battle. She pulled a gun to Beckett‘s head.. went on her own journey to save will.
She has grown a lot since the first movie who was just an innocent girl! Elizabeth got better as a character in 2 and 3!
As for Jack sparrow. He does not become a joke at all in all 3 movies.
Jack sparrow is at his best in the second movie and in the third movie. There was a moment in dead men’s chest… Where Jack didn’t know what he truly wanted so the compass couldn’t locate what he desired. So when Elizabeth went on her journey and then found Jack.. Jack used her for his advantage! He took advantage of Elizabeth’s feelings by telling her if you want to save Will you have to want to find the chest of Davy Jones! In order to get will back.. That’s why Jack gave her the compass. Jack knew if he couldn’t figure what he wanted out he was going to get it out of Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth now wants to find the chest of Davy Jones to save will. This gives Jack the huge opportunity to find the chest to stab the heart in it. But instead he wants to control DavyJones before killing him. Jack sparrow is not stupid! When will was trying to stab the heart towards the end of the second movie. Jack knows just because Davy Jones is dead, does not mean the Kraken will be stopped as well. And you’re telling me Jack is dumb after part 1??
As for Beckett. He was a well executed villain who uses dialogue and negotiation to control people. The Reason why Beckett didn’t fire his cannons at worlds end. Was because it would be totally out of his character to use weapons. Beckett uses certain words to get through people and how to control them behind the scenes. Beckett at the end of the movie had nothing left to negotiate with. Davy Jones was dead, Jack sparrow is alive and well. Will Turner is now the new captain of the Flying Dutchman. Beckett had literally nothing to use against on people. He was caught in shocked and he decided to die..
Anyways I could defend the Gore Verbinski’s Trilogy all night. His trilogy is an underrated trilogy. It had great character writing and amazing detail of its depth.
Also Will vs Davy Jones!!! 😈😈😈
    when Will challenging Davy Jones.
Davy Jones asks him how do you know about the key?
Will replies and says, that's NOT part of the game is it? 😏 You can STILL walk away!! 😏
As for pirates 4/5 they are not even Canon they are filler movies. The story ended at worlds end! ☠️
(Part 2) Dead man’s chest has a very simple plot.. Jack sparrow is the master at controlling peoples hearts to get what he wants and out of a situation. He screwed over Will so Jack can save himself… But it worked in his favor for his reunion to meet his father.. William even told Jack you screwed me over but because of you I was reunited with my father after such a long time.. Elizabeth was caught in Jack’s illusion of trusting him to get Will back that had nothing to do with him which was a lie. Will being on Davy Jones ship had everything to do with Jack lol. Jack left on good terms with Elizabeth and William in the first movie. Elizabeth had every right to believe Jack…. It was Jack who took advantage of her feelings to find the chest by telling her if you want to find will you need to find the chest of Davy Jones! But it was an illusion so Jack can get closer to find the chest of Davy Jones to control him. But to also go back and save will after Jack got what he wanted.
If people don’t understand these movies that’s their problem. But I understand every movie! That’s why I rank 2>3>1 ☠️☠️☠️
(Part 3) I’m sorry to break it to you but the curse of the Black Pearl is my least favorite in the trilogy. I rewatch the trilogy every few months. And to me I just don’t find it as deep or as interesting compared to dead man’s chest or at worlds end.
Curse of the Black Pearl is still a well written amazing film. It’s just I’d rather choose having William struggle on trying to save his father from Davy Jones along side using very clever strategy and dialogue during the dice liar game on Davy Jones to get key from him.. VS William in the first movie who just wants to save Elizabeth….
I love darker storytelling and when steaks are becoming higher! Dead man’s chest gave me everything.. Elizabeth was a useful damsel in stress female lead in the first movie. But I would rather choose her character development in the second movie compared to her in the first movie.
Elizabeth pulled a gun on Beckett’s face. She went on her own journey to save William. Who also taught her how to defend herself with swords. And that paid off well at the end of the movie! Her development is miles better in (Dead mens chest) compared to herself in the first movie who just takes the fall for William to protect him from Barbosa.
Jack sparrow’s dialog and clever intelligence grew (MORE) in (dead men’s chest) and (at worlds end) and you cannot convince me otherwise. If people think he became a joke after the first movie that sounds like a (YOU PROBLEM) Jack sparrow is pretty intelligent in the second movie on being a master at manipulation and taking advantage of people around him to get himself out of a situation in order to save his life and possibly everyone else’s. He just knows how to play the game like that….. You can’t trust Jack sparrow on making the right decisions because he’s supposed to be ahead of the game on everyone’s perspective on him. If Jack was easy to follow with answers he wouldn’t be Jack sparrow lol.
Not to mention what’s with this opinion on people saying Jack sparrow was someone you should not mess with?? Jack sparrow literally wants you to mess with him so he can use that to his advantage to pull you in under his string, for you to doubt him in order to rise up above everyone else. You were caught in his illusion the entire time so he can be superior at the end of the situation and screw you over. If Jack sparrow was someone to NOT mess with, just like Davy Jones.. Then you wouldn’t be caught in Jack sparrow’s illusion on being the worst pirate in the world..
No seriously if Jack had the same fear approach as Davy Jones…. Then all you would have to do were to look at Jack sparrow for a few seconds and be so scared of him, Everyone would just run away.. literally what’s the fun in that for Jack Sparrow?! If he was someone to not mess like people claim. Then (WHY) do people keep on assisting 100% on messing with Jack Sparrow?? Please answer that man lol. That literally makes no sense… 😂

As far as At World’s End goes, calypso being irrelevant was kinda weird but it makes sense within the story. Calypso and Davy Jones had that scene in the brig where he kinda convinced her to betray the pirate lords, and then when she was reverting back, Will basically said that davy betrayed her first, so she didnt like either side so she created the whirlpool to kill them both lmaoo.

  • @penelopesparrow
    @penelopesparrow ปีที่แล้ว +1

I am absolutely passionate about the 1st movie and the whole Bruck trilogy. (though i agree Calypso was wasted). The 4th movie I like ok, it's a fun and light-hearted watch, though I argue the priest and the mermaid are absolutely unnecessary. He's only there to be a love interest, she could be more creature than 'human' and not speak a word of English and still serve the story fine.
But the 5th movie I honestly consider to be one of if not the worst movie I've ever seen. I despise it. The villain has no feeling of threat and once again the romance pair are not needed or even likeable. But my two biggest gripes are the treatment of Jack and Barbossa. At the end of the 4th movie. Barbossa has Blackbeard's ship, sword and crew. He builds an armada with this and is now an even bigger power than Jones ever was. And they do nothing with this. Nothing. He should be insanely powerful, Salazar should fear him.
Meanwhile Jack...yikes. Apparently the script went through a ton of changes, and you can see that in the final piece, there's scraps and rough edges and it's a patchwork with no flow. Shansa (the witch) was clearly the original villain with a bigger part to play, instead she barely featured despite hinting a bigger backstory. They could've really moved with the luck concept; it's been Gibb's fixation through the whole thing and they had a chance to show luck as an actual energetic 'magic' that could be granted or depleted.
It'd be the reason why Jack is so useless, and would give him better stakes as he races for the trident against Barbossa, who is so powerful now only luck can defeat him; so it was him who had Shansa take Jack's luck. Oh and I was suuuuper disappointment that we didn't see Poseidon anywhere?? What a fantastic Big Boss he could've been,. the only thing more powerful than Barbossa, and what a perfect reason to convince Barbossa to return Jack's luck so they can defeat him together. What an epic movie it could've been.
Sorry this was so long LOL I could write more. It not only sucks as a movie, it's a waste, and that's worse.

I will admit I don't hate Stranger Tides. It's a decent film on it's own and more of a Jack Sparrow solo adventure spin-off than a sequel. The cast works and it freaked me out as a child but I do understand why it's unpopular since we don't have the main cast from the previous. Jack still has a lot of his main traits of being intelligent and eccentric plus Barbossa is still entertaining as hell.
My least favourite has to be Dead Men Tell No Tales which is a shame because once again, the cast is good and so are the effects. Jack's character was super weird in that one. I think they were trying to showcase the end of the Golden Age of Piracy through him but they weren't clear enough about it. If they focused more on that through Jack it could have been decent. Also the fact we have Will and Elizabeth's son in this one should have meant a lot more references from the previous films through Jack but we didn't get that either. Overall, the writing and cinematography in that was awful. That being said, the wholesome ending was worth it

    • @legoobi-wankenobi

Unpopular opinion: both the 4th and 5th are decent movies, like you said, the 4th works as its own solo film, and I feel like people hate the 5th movie because they are missing the big points of the movie, from what I understand, the 5th movie is supposed to signify the end of pirates and we know this since we rarely see any pirates in the movie compared to the other movies and when that one witch tells Barbossa that he should consider retirement. another thing that people miss is how jack’s character is written here, sure there are some moments in which the way they wrote his character is stupid, but for the most part it adds to the plot of the 5th movie since it’s kind of supposed to show him at his lowest point in life, he lost his pearl, he lost most of his crew, and he lost the reputation that he had, so it would make sense for him to act like he did in the 5th movie, a drunk idiot (as people have said) that drinks his sadness and depression away since like I stated before, he lost the pearl, his crew abandoned him and he lost his reputation that he once had in the first three films. So with all of that said, I’d say that the 4th and 5th films aren’t terrible but aren’t at the same level as the first three movies since the 4th and 5th film have their moments that don’t make sense or they have plot holes (that can be fixed easily) but even then, when knowing what’s going on with each character, the movies can be enjoyable

my favorite just has to be Worlds End. It has very good twists into the movie. I love how it gives some sad scenes, romantic, and obviously action. A quote from this movie that just makes my heart sink is, " If he saves me, he looses you. He wouldn't pick me, I wouldn't pick me" Like damn that's deep. Or " Will: Shes the one, but you betrayed her. Davy Jones: She pretended to love me. She betrayed me!" Like again, DAMN. But those types of quotes in a film just make it so interesting. They should have literally took there time though to find another idea for the fourth and fifth, cause my goodness it dropped the plot and franchise DOWN. Like the first, second, and third one followed the same plot really. Will wanted to save his father was really the point. I mean the fourth movie isn't bad, but you would want to watch it if you just don't have any idea what the plot is about. Honestly, the fourth film, I think they did it for fun sadly. But buddy, they didn't need to make it worse, cause the fifth scene is just horrible. It's like doing the same thing again in the first, second, and third film with will trying to save his father, but instead is with his son. Which I have to say, there son was honestly not a good character. He seemed just..not being good in the film. But you know? Like now Henry is trying to save his father but just trying to act "better?" by trying to find the trident and breaking it. OH!, and about that. How the heck are they gonna make a new film when every curse is broken? They should have thought of that. Cause I heard a rumor that they were gonna bring Davy Jones back for some reason. idk man, but I wish they would have thought about it. TBH they should have done 1-3, then 5 BUT MAKE IT BETTER AND HAVE THE PLOT MATCH THE FIRST THREE. Like y'all gotta agree lol, cause making the fourth one just ruined it man.

I think the movies are some of the best action films. I do not think the 4th and 5th movies aren’t bad. I think they are fine. Although dead man tell no tales is my least favorite. But it is still an amazing movie.

13:58 that’s literally the main reason why I don’t love the first film compared to the other two. I prefer darker storytelling and way more risks than anything else! ☠️☠️☠️

All right man the POTC theme remix song at the very beginning of the video was awesome! Can you give me a link to it?

I loved all but the last one where they fucked up the time line as to how jack got the compass.... and the entire movie just seamed rushed.

    My personal rankings:
    1. Dead Man's Chest (9/10) - A race against time adventure, great CGI and tension
    2. Curse of the Black Pearl (8/10) - Goofy, funny adventure movie with loveable characters
    3. At World's End (7/10) - Great action finale, kinda dark in places
    4. Dead Men Tell no Tales (6/10) - Surprisingly not too terrible
    5. On Stranger Tides (3/10) - Just disappointing

Dmc and awe were both filmed while the scripts were being written. So for a good chunk of the movie they did not have a complete script and its impressive that even with the script setbacks the movies still ended up so good.

In spite of their general irrelevance to the plot, I believe the Spanish are the best part of OST. Their force-of-nature attitude carries a lot of weight whenever it shows up, to such a degree that I found it far more memorable than any action setpiece in the film.

it'd be fun to see if they can do what dreamworks did with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. they randomly out of nowhere drop a masterpiece into a dread franchise. knowing disney though, that absolutely will not happen

Even as a kid, I didn't think they needed a movie after the 3rd one. At World's End just felt like it had such a great, solid, bitter sweet ending. All the movies after the first 3 don't hold up as well and seem to undermine the 3rd movie...

    Pirates 1: Perfection
Pirates 2: A bit scattershot but many great ideas and moments
Pirates 3: Flawed but satisfying conclusion
Pirates 4: An alright but unnecessary Jack spinoff
Pirates 5: Idk what this is supposed to be, it's not awful, but not good, it's a conclusion that almost feels like self parody, to a series that has already concluded. It's basically like Matrix 4, just why...

Me: Hm, who were all those new side characters again...and the villain....and the story...
You: Explains who the new villain was
Me: OOOH I TOTALLY forgot about that one!!
You: Explains who the new side-characters are.
Me: OOOOH I totally forgot about those!!.........who was the villain again?
You: Explains about the story-line and what happens
Me: .....who where the side-characters again? 😵‍💫

I would have loved a movie where Jack is faced with a marine captain or a younger pirate who can actually compete him with him mentally. Maybe that Jack has some plans but they are foiled by clever counter meassures which forces Jack to find a way to outwit his new superior foe. This can lead to great dialogue and creative ideas and actions

I don't care what anybody says. The interaction in PotC 4 where the British sailor starts claiming the fountain of youth and gets shot is the funniest moment in that movie and it literally made the entire film better than 5.
"Someone make a note of that man's bravery."
    Pure comedy gold, delivered perfectly.

I don’t like dead men tell no tales either. But Salazar in my opinion is a good villain. Also I do like giving Will and Elizabeth a happy ending, but it doesn’t sit right with me that they do that without them having any role to play in it.

I always loved the first Pirates movie but was underwhelmed by 2 and 3. I never liked that they had connected stories instead of each being stand-alone and the tone shift you mentioned did not work for me. It's an unpopular opinion but I found On Stranger Tides the best sequel overall, unlike the previous two it recaptured the perfect balance of action, humor, and dark material that made the first movie great. I like how they went back to basics for that one because 2 and 3 felt overreaching most of the time with how convoluted and weird the plots were. 1 and 4 are the only entries in the series I thoroughly enjoy and seemed like they fit into the world of the Pirates ride. The fifth was the most forgettable to me, it started getting too weird again and I agree Jack wasn't great in it while Carina was annoying as hell. The only thing I liked was Will and Elizabeth getting the ending they deserved but it's a shame the Davy Jones cliffhanger will never be explored nor will what happened to Angelica. There was surely at least one more story to tell, had they made 5 sooner we probably could've seen a 6th that led to an incredible and more satisfying conclusion that tied up everything throughout the franchise. There is no Pirates without Depp, any reboot without him is destined to flop. Awesome video and thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Disney should have made a movie telling how Davy Jones and his crew came to be that way, if Verbinski directed and the script was good, it would be a blockbuster.

My favorite PotC is dead mans chest, the book based on the movie. It was the first book I ever chose to read by myself, and I couldn't put it down. I read curse of the black pearl later after watching the movies, but it couldn't compare to the masterpiece of the dead mans chest book. (It's also my favorite movie if I had to pick)

For me a big reason why the trilogy worked was the chemistry between Jack, Will and Elizabeth. And the two sequels that lack two-thirds of the trio just lack the backbone that held up the franchise.
