your style of play is incredible. you know the theory of the game so well, yet you play so freely and creatively. It does not seem like you are ever frustrated with the position, always super positive and trying to make something happen.
ERIC! Welcome back my dude. We missed you! At the same time I'm so glad you had a rest and please take it whenever you need. We'll be here when you get back 👍
Eric: "If this video gets 3000 likes, I will show the game with Magnus"... me: Sees video already has over 6k likes. also me: still hitting that button!
Ah, Marie Sebag! France's only female Grandmaster. I played a simul against her almost three years ago, blundered in like the 20th move but played to mate because I wanted to last as long as possible lol. This was a 28-person simul, and only one guy managed to get a draw. She also showed up in the reality show Secret Story in 2012, although dipped quickly.
I was following this game while you played it and I actually laughed out loud when you played that stalemate trick! Nice try. Thanks for the recap Eric. Happy you're back; I hope you enjoyed your trip.
Thank you for playing in the tourney. I would never have found it without you and following the entire thing was definitely highlight of the month for me
This was a great fighting game by Eric . Probably should have taken the repetition at 12:40 but still a valiant effort (and the Rosen trap setup at 21:40 was a nice touch 🙂 ) .
The game was super dynamic with lots and lots of ideas, and the rook ending is like watching Capablanca playing with the black pieces. It is really a beauty. Kudos to Eric and Marie Sebag, this is the chess we love to see.
Welcome back, Eric! So nice to see you here again. Recognising that she could give away that bishop for activity was incredible by her. Well played, I have a feeling you will owe us a carlsen vs caruana
You're a genius , Ive watch all your london system strategy. Im starting to get thrilled on the tricky part of these strat. Thank you for this strategy. Hope i can improve my level upon learning this style
This is such an absolutely brutal game for Eric. It's the kinda chess of my nightmares; subtle inaccuracy in the opening begetting a complex position where White gets a million ideas and none of them work, collapsing into an endgame where the opponent plays in a frustratingly immaculate way. I get very tilted when I spot all the spicy tactics in the midgame only for it to have no payoff and no compensation, so it's instructive that Eric takes that all in stride and appreciates the game regardless.
Never give up. Things can.. and do happen. You'll never know if you just give up.. like some kind of.. wimp. Eric's got golden gloves. Give up is not in his vocab or repertoire.
thanks eric. i specifically appreciate you mentioning why you couldn't defend the knight with the queen to g5 before castling, and why you couldn't move your pawn to a4 in the endgame.
I can't believe we have an opponent in common ! I played her twenty years ago when I was a kid, was happy to learn what a great career she has had in the meantime :D
(1) What was the critical moment when you were no longer at advantage? (2) At what point were you no longer equal? Was this just when you declined entering the perpetual? (3) Was keeping your knight on row 2 for as long as you did ultimately the reason for losing tempo?
wow Eric! more than 1 in 5 people have liked this video. I think its safe to say that your videos were missed. I really enjoy watching your recaps of tournaments games. hope you continue OTB chess
7:58 why Bb5+ when if they move the bishop like they're planning to you have Qb5+? They're forced to take Making Bgb5+ much deadlier because white either loses a bishop or loses a pawn and a rook from the impending knight f7+ or moves to e8 which not only makes them lose castling, but basically removes the rook from the game for atleast 3 turns while you could follow with something like Rc1 or casting short to really open the position for white Is there any reason to not do the queen trade over the bishop in that position?
Question: What is wrong with Nc4 in the position at 14:07? Seems to get your knight out of future pins, defend your rook and simultaneously attack the queen.
no, that was a good question. I paused the video at 14:44 and struggled to see why Nc4 wasn't the best move to play as well. I didn't see Qc3+ either but whether white defends with Rook e2, retreats King to f1 or brings Knight back to e2, it's over. Eric Rosen's games are like watching Russian Roulette over a chess board!
When black attacks my dark squared bishop from H5, I like pulling it back to G3, let black take there and recapture with H2xG3. Then I plant my light squared bishop on D3, anticipating black castling short. Now my rook, bishop, and queen attack the king side and black doesn’t have a knight to guard H7.
I asked the same question, then decided to scroll ten thousand comments to see if someone else wondered, saw a couple of people wondering about the same, but no answer yet :)
@@volodymyrstepanov7068 Admittedly, I was too lazy to consider past the next 2 moves to try to find where I assume it fails nonetheless. No engines on my side to help.
All she had to do is align her pawns and make a wall. Then march her king over to the lone pawn and capture it. Some pawn down endgames can be draws, but not when the side thats down is completely tied down with no counterplay.
I find the approach fascinating. Just knowing the engine prefers a position you’ll play it quickly without thinking too much. I’d be concerned I couldn’t find the reason the position is better and take a less critical line.

Agreed! Easiest like I've ever given a video XD
Almost there in 2 hours, already!
Yes yes yes! Especially with Eric's commentary. It's the best.

These analysis videos are so useful and interesting, thank you Eric. Absolutely love that you attempted to fake a mouse slip in OTB chess.

Hey Eric, loved the video. I was wondering what type of microphone you have and where you got it from?
